Work Text:
"So where to?" Yoongi asks the second they leave the restaurant and into the cold biting air. Namjoon stalled his reply by chosing to fix his scarf and then reaching to hold Yoongi's hand in his.
"You really don't have to, they're cold as hell and we might get caught." Yoongi reasons the second he feels Namjoon's hand on his.
Namjoon hated the phrase "getting caught". He hated the idea of hiding his relationship and hiding his love for a certain Min Yoongi whenever they were with anyone who wasn't their own group members.
But he risks it today. He really shouldn't as the leader of the group, but it's not everyday they get to spend some time off, even if it's just one night. He'd started the night taking Yoongi to dinner, but if he was going to be honest, he had no idea how he was going to continue this date.
He's convinced its not his fault, when both him and Yoongi spend majority of their time focusing on their comeback, writing, producing, recording, practicing, rehearsing, promoting...
He ponders if he should ask Yoongi where they should go, but in the cold, and knowing Yoongi, he'd just say they should head home. And although it sounded tempting, Namjoon felt like getting out there and doing something.
Plus, he already brought him and Yoongi more than a street away from their studios, something they can't afford to do a lot of their time, so they might as well spend some time here.
They start walking aimlessly, Yoongi deciding not to question Namjoon as he leads them to who knows where. They continue walking, the cold wind causing the two to hold each other closer in an attempt to share body warmth. Just as Namjoon was about to say screw it and give in, he hears the familiar melody of BIG BANG's If You playing. The singer obviously isn't T.O.P but Namjoon heads towards the sound anyway, leading Yoongi with him.
They find themselves at a public concert, less than a hundred people sitting out in the cold listening to a band of... Namjoon realises he doesn't know this band.
He sits down and Yoongi sits next to him.
"They remind me of us, in the past." Namjoon starts, watching the band as they put in their all.
"When no one knew of us?" Yoongi continues for him, and Namjoon hums his confirmation.
It did remind him of them, when they were panicking over their first few open concerts, practicing and rehearsing and giving out flyers praying for people to support them. Maybe that's why he felt compelled to sit down, to show the band playing the support and attention that Namjoon himself once desperately craved.
Yoongi must've thought the same, replying with a "We were once just like them," that made Namjoon smile, realising truly how far they've come.
They sat for a while, just listening to the band, occasionally giving them whoops and cheers as they played covers of different songs from different bands. He wanted to give them the encouragement to keep going, because if they loved music, they should keep doing it.
Namjoon checks the time, maybe they should start heading back, he thinks, having sat there for a while now, just when a familiar loud intro blasted from the stage.
"THEY CALL ME NEW THING!!" The crowd cheered, some shouting feverishly while others continued rapping whatever parts they could follow. Standing among fans of his own song, Yoongi looked up at Namjoon and smiled, before starting to rap his own song with practiced ease.
"I’m the guy who shoves his junior or senior
who copies from copiers
Doesn’t matter if I’m nasty or if I’m a wack or fack,
I’m the guy that will carve history on the ground
Always getting more light
among other hopeless rappers
The raquet caused by the jealous hyungs
who are scared I’d take away their-"
The music had stopped. Everyone had stopped. Everyone was looking at them, crap.
"MIN YOONGI!" someone finally shouted, recognising the artist.
Namjoon panicked as more and more people were crowding them. They still hadn't realised who he was from the hood and mask he'd pull up instinctively, but it wouldn't be hard for them to figure it out. One thing Namjoon had learnt along the way of being a part of Bangtan, was that ARMYs are really smart.
Following his first instinct reaction, Namjoon grabs Yoongi's hand and pushes through the crowd of people, mentally apologising if he had hurt any of Yoongi's or their fans along the way. However, Namjoon was stumped when he realised he'd lead Yoongi to the front of the stage.
Before Namjoon could react any further, Yoongi released his hand and made his way to the staircase of the stage.
"What are you doing? You can't do that!" Namjoon protested, realising Yoongi's motives. Yoongi didn't stop, and despite Namjoon literally trying to carry Yoongi and get him out of the area, Yoongi wasn't taking any of it. Not with the people watching, cheering. Yoongi couldn't let them down.
"Live a life, man."
The last thing Yoongi says before properly stepping on stage was Namjoon's very own lyrics, causing him to groan in defeat realising he can never convince his boyfriend once he set his mind to something.
Yoongi got on stage as Namjoon found some way to leave before he himself was detected (though he was already hearing a few shouts of his name, but as long as he doesn't react it should be alright), the crowd cheering for Yoongi and more people coming to see what the commotion was about. Yoongi greeted the band members on stage, bowing to thank them and apologising for stealing their stage.
Namjoon watches slightly further away, after having flipped his jacket inside out in an attempt to confuse people looking for him. He can't help but to take his phone out and film it, smiling at the irony of it when his band had a song titled "Can You Turn Off Your Phone". But it was too tempting, he had to save this moment.
When the speediest part of the rap started, Yoongi had scanned Namjoon at the far back of the audience, and locked eyes with him as he ran through the rap within one breath, wowing the audience as he always did. Namjoon smiled at him fondly from afar, Yoongi smiling back and continuing without missing a beat. Namjoon would say he doesn't need air, but he knew that as a rapper himself, it was mostly the adrenaline talking.
"What's his deal? Stealing the show when he's already famous."
"Give some people with actual talent a chance."
"Probably all backtrack. Recording line by line and editing it all together and making it seem as though he can rap."
Namjoon moves away, chosing to step to a slightly noiser crowd. At least the noise would be cheering for his boyfriend, not harsh insults.
And Namjoon knows it's not backtrack.
Namjoon made 1/5 of it with him.
Agust D came to an end, and the audience stared, impressed, before someone clapped and everyone followed. Namjoon harbored a small urge to run up there and kiss Yoongi right on stage, having been stunned by his own boyfriend's performance once again.
Yoongi hurriedly thanked the crowd, and each of the band members. He was glad to have performed with a smaller crowd, it's something exhilarating and refreshing from the overwhelming sensation of a full stadium of people, not to say he doesn't appreciate it.
Jumping off stage, he ran through the crowd ignoring calls and shouts until he reached Namjoon, grabbing his hand and clasping it in his as he ran off, dragging Namjoon with him.
"Twitter found out, " Yoongi explained between pants, as they desperately ran in the attempt to escape incoming fans and even press. Namjoon merely nodded as a reply, looking back every few seconds to check if they were still being followed.
After a few minutes of nothing but endless running, the two found themselves alone at the edge of a river, Namjoon jumping over the railing easily and sitting on top of it, helping Yoongi do the same. The two did nothing but admire the lights from the buildings on the other side, everything becoming clear as they catch their breath.
Yoongi's mouth and lips was dry from rapping and then running for so long, but it was nothing he wasn't used to. Swallowing dryly, he opted to blur out the buildings and colours, instead letting his eyes focused on Namjoon's.
A small part of him wanted to take a photo right then, seeing as though it was the most excitement with Namjoon he's had in months, and also because flustered, disheveled Namjoon blowing out cold breaths of air was something he'd like to remember in HD.
But he choses not to. Thinking back to "Can You Turn Off Your Phone", he realises its something his own songs has taught him, and really, he should live in the moment and keep this image in his head, not his gallery.
Plus, there'd be many more chances to capture photos of Namjoon, in his head.
That's the last thing he thinks as he leans forward and catches the taller boy off guard, pressing his dry freezing lips to his.

The next morning, Yoongi realises he didn't have to take a photo, because someone had taken a high quality photo of him kissing Namjoon anyway, and #sugamon was currently trending on Twitter.
At least he doesn't have to hide and hold back now, he thinks, kissing Namjoon once again while the two were scrolling Twitter together, and snapping a photo while he's at it.
He'll be the first to post it this time.
