Work Text:
Jimin stopped in his tracks. He stood in front of Jungkook’s door and was intrigued at the music that played loudly.
“Jungkook?” he said as he knocked on the door. Jungkook called out to him. “What song is that?” he said as he walked in. The song became clearer and Jimin realised it was in English.
“One of Ed Sheeran’s new songs,” Jungkook said, distracted by whatever was happening on his computer screen, “It’s called Perfect.” He gestured for Jimin to come closer and tilted his screen slightly upwards. “I’m trying to learn it for ARMY,” he said excitedly. He was looking up the translations of the lyrics and had the music video playing on a separate screen.
“Ah, so cool, Jungkook,” Jimin teased but he was intrigued. He asked for him to start the video again.
He watched the music video with a growing smile. It was sweet. Really sweet. He asked Jungkook to send him the lyrics and Jungkook complied before he left the younger alone. As he walked out and towards his own room, the melody stuck with him and he started to hum.
Jimin started to notice the song had struck a chord in him and he didn’t know why. It was a good song, he knew that but he didn’t understand why he felt such a strong pull towards it. The lyrics just felt so real and so familiar. The man decided he just really liked the song.
Eventually, he placed it into one of his dance playlists. That way it would come on shuffle when he cooled off before and after dance practices whilst alone. The first time it did, he closed his eyes and listened to the beat and moved his body along like usual.
He didn’t really expect it but as he danced, the music video came to mind. Though, in the middle of the song, his mind drifted to thoughts of someone else.
Hoseok.
He lost his footing. The song filled the room and he opened his eyes. He stared at himself in the mirror in shock.
“What?” he asked himself. The song continued to play and he wondered why the image of Hoseok laughing just before during dance practice came to mind. He wondered why the image of him laughing and hugging Jimin before he left came to mind. He wondered why the image of Hoseok simply smiling even came to mind at all.
He tried to process what his mind was going through and his chest suddenly felt very warm. Before he could think about it further, the song came to a close and a song of a completely different vibe came on.
He decided to go home.
On the ride there, Jimin let his mind continue to wander through the thoughts of Hoseok and the song. He was interrupted however, by the source of his confusion via a text message.
Jimin smiled widely and asked their manager if they could stop by somewhere. He got home, with bags full of chips and a few sweet things. He left some downstairs but took majority of it to his and Hoseok’s shared room.
“Jimin, what’s taking so long?” he heard Hoseok whine from their room. Jimin rolled his eyes as he opened the door and found Hoseok sprawled across his bed.
“So impatient,” Jimin said before he handed him the food. Hoseok sat up took them with a light in his eyes.
“Thanks, Jiminie,” Hoseok said with a grin and Jimin shook his head.
“So lazy, hyung,” he teased but Hoseok was far too engrossed in the food to pay attention. His mind drifted to the melody once again. “Hyung, do you know this song?” he asked suddenly. Hoseok looked up at him in question while he hummed it.
“I don’t think so?”
“Wait, here’s the lyrics,” he said with a smile. He played the song as he moved to sit in front of his hyung and read out the translations while the song played in the background. Hoseok swayed along and Jimin said he’d put on the video. He opted to put it on their tv for better view. The familiar song played and Jimin nervously glanced at Hoseok who had a smile on his face.
Jimin’s heart skipped a beat.
“This is so good,” Hoseok said excitedly as he watched the video. Meanwhile, Jimin was simply watching Hoseok. He watched him suddenly put the snacks down and use the wipes on his hands. As the pair on the screen started to dance, Hoseok grabbed Jimin’s wrist and pulled him up.
“Ah, hyung!” he said in surprise before Hoseok pulled Jimin closer so their bodies were up against each other. He swayed them to the beat and attempted to copy the dance the two were doing on screen. Jimin laughed all the while.
Hoseok pressed their foreheads together as he tried to put on a serious face but Jimin couldn’t hold in his laughter.
“So silly,” Jimin muttered and then Hoseok was smiling and giggling. Their eyes met and Jimin could feel his face heat up.
Jimin made the decision that that song was definitely his favourite.
When they went to bed that night, Jimin couldn’t help but look at Hoseok who was already asleep on his own bed. His back faced him but the younger still smiled.
“Hyung?” he whispered but received no response. Jimin quietly sang some of the lyrics.
“Baby, I’m dancing in the dark,” he said with a smile, “you between my arms..”
Hoseok stirred before he turned around so he was facing Jimin.
“Jimin?”
“I whispered underneath my breath but you heard it,” Jimin continued to sing, “darling, you look perfect tonight..”
Hoseok smiled at him.
End.
