"Hey, I love you."
He had said it so casually, so nonchalantly, that Hoseok almost forgot there's a war this man had to go to. That the reason he said that, as they stood in front of the station was because he had to go.
Seokjin, this beautiful man that he had come to love, that he had come to appreciate so much, had to leave.
He hadn't cried, that day they said goodbye to each other. All because he had cried so much the week before Seokjin left.
He lived on the letters, thrived on them, the ones Seokjin sent from over yonder. The one where he made it sound so easy, going through dirt and bloodshed and tears, through bodies of both enemies and comrades alike.
And that's the truth about Seokjin: he tends to carry the world behind his back without letting anyone see he was being burdened with it. But the thing about Hoseok is this: he hates being left behind, hates being left out.
He's also really, really vengeful.
So maybe there was satisfaction in seeing Seokjin's eyes widening, surprised to see Hoseok in battle. Maybe there was satisfaction in seeing Seokjin cry, satisfaction in getting shot trying to protect him.
At least this time around, Hoseok thinks, he isn't the one to be left behind.
