Work Text:
It was just a normal- and by that, it’s clearly not normal- day. Park Jimin was going out to eat, with her five obnoxious best- but don’t tell them- friends.
She just knew that something was going to go wrong, but not in this sense.
//
She was having a pretty okay day, for starters, there were no major distractions whatsoever, except for the fact that her head felt like it was going to explode. Maybe she could actually go to the gym or make plans with some people other than her five idiots today. She had enough of them for one day.
The phone rang.
Ok, maybe her plans were ruined from the beginning, but clearly, the five didn’t know when to stop and give her a break. Last night was the worst night of her entire twenty years of existence. Literally.
“HI JIMIN,” screamed Kim Taehyung into the phone. “HOW ARE YOU?”
“I’m wonderful, thanks for asking,” her voice dripping with sarcasm. Oh, how much her head had hurt a few hours after she woken up. She clearly cannot hold her alcohol.
“GUKKIE, COME OVER HERE, SHE’S BEING SARCASTIC AGAIN!”
Jimin rolled her eyes; it was their fault for making her drink so much last night anyways.
“Y’know, calling Jeongguk isn’t going to solve the fact that I’m never going to the bar with you guys again.”
“Who says we’re going to the bar tonight? We all know you cannot hold your alcohol after last night! We had to haul you back into your apartment! It took all five of us,” Taehyung whined.
“Oi, I’m not fat! You know what, maybe I’m going to call Minseo and leave y’all behind in the dust,” she huffed, clearly angry at the fact that Tae had made some sort of joke about her weight. She was NOT fat, thank you very much. “I work out twice a week, unlike you, Tae!”
“Pft,” he snorted. “That’s nothing. I work out everyday with Gukkie.”
“Including yesterday,” she asked moodily, still not over the fact that he called her fat. Well, not directly, but he clearly suggested it. She was not fat.
“Ok, maybe not yesterday, but neither did you,” he shot back, triumphant.
“Oh, shut up.” She rolled her eyes, not that Taehyung could see, but he clearly felt it.
“Stop rolling your eyes, it’s going to get stuck that way. We were just going to invite you for breakfast, that’s all! Just a friendly outing with the five best people you’ve ever met. It was all Hobi’s idea, he felt bad about yesterday.”
“Good, at least someone has compassion,” she sniffed.
“Hey, we didn’t leave you hanging on the side of the street throwing up, alright,” he defended. “So, are you coming or what?”
“Yes, I’ll be there in a jiffy.”
“ALRIGHT! See, Gukkie, I DID manage to convince her,” he screamed to Jeongguk as he hung up.
It wasn’t that she hated her friends. It was more like they were annoying. Ok, well, not that annoying. Except, maybe Taehyung. They were just idiots, that’s all. She shrugged to herself, grabbing her mobile and made her way to the bathroom, taking over 30 minutes to get ready. What? She had to look somewhat presentable, especially after last night. She shuddered.
//
They picked her up in front of her house, Seokjin honking the car to alert her.
“CHIM,” they, mostly Tae, screamed in unison.
“No more bars,” she said firmly, still traumatised over last night.
“No more bars,” they agreed, nodding their heads in affirmation, images of drunk Jimin flashing past their heads.
“So, where are we going anyways,” Jimin asked, sliding into the seat next to Tae. It was already extremely squished, with Joon in shotgun, and Tae, Gukkie, and Hobi fighting for space in the back.
“We’re going to a diner, for some breakfast lunch,” said Hobi, loudly talking over the noise that is Tae and Guk.
“It’s called brunch,” Namjoon helpfully added from the front.
Jimin laughed, loving her 5 adorable idiots. They may be stupid- especially Tae- but they’re all her lovely idiots. She wouldn’t trade the world for them.
//
Nope, forget her past statements of ‘wouldn’t trade the world for them.’ She would trade half a burrito for them. Hell, she would trade a cactus for them. At least cacti didn’t make stupid decisions.
They just arrived at the diner, laughing and talking, with Tae making fun of her occasionally, and Seokjin smacking Tae’s head while laughing.
Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Just kidding. It was more like a certain waitress.
The diner was bustling like normal, it was 12 o’clock, after all. Jimin glanced around, hoping that she made the right decision in coming with the 5.
A new voice floated towards her. A really soft melodic voice. She turned her head around to catch a glimpse of whoever it was.
Turns out, it was their waitress. Their really pretty waitress. ‘Jimin, your gay ass needs to stop,’ she mentally scolded herself. The boys were also extremely smitten as well, their eyes never leaving her, their mouths agape.
“This would be your table, and here are your menus. Call me when you guys are done deciding,” she said shortly, leading them to Table 3 and slapping a couple of menus on the table. She left after that, her short black hair dancing as she went to get orders from another table.
“Holy…,” Joon said, shocked. Jimin rolled her eyes; everyone knew that Joon was practically dating Jin. Except that Jin and Joon were oblivious as fuck. Even more so than Hobi.
“I agree,” Tae exclaimed, gaining the attention of many other diners.
“Shut it,” Jimin snapped, not wanting to embarrass herself.
“Say…”
“No,” Jimin cut off. “Remember yesterday and your brilliant idea, Tae?”
Jin and Joon laughed, remembering the antics of Drunk Jimin. Yesterday was a truly a day to remember. Not that Jimin wanted to keep memories of that.
“We agree though, not with the idea necessarily, but we agree, ” they nodded.
“Especially that ass,” added Tae with a tiny smirk. Jimin banged her forehead against the table.
Jimin desperately glanced at Hobi, asking him if he was with these bunch of idiots.
‘Please side with me,” she asked with her eyes. It wasn’t like she disagreed, especially with Tae’s remark, but embarrassment wasn’t something that she dealt with easily.
Hoseok, however, was too busy staring at the extremely attractive waitress to pay any heed to Jimin.
She sighed. She turned around to see Tae gathering the whole group into a circle, snapping his fingers to get her and Hobi’s attention.
“This is a great idea,” Tae whispered, gathering the whole group into a tight circle. “Whoever gets her number gets a whole set of shots at the bar next week paid by the rest of us.” This definitely did not include Jimin who could not hold her alcohol for shit. He glanced at her, considering her for a moment. “If you do do it Jimin, we’d wash your smelly dog for free.”
“Chimmy is not smelly,” she huffed in defence. “What about you guys paying my rent for 3 months?”
“That’s not fair! We get shots and you get 3 months worth of rent? And your dog is really smelly,” Gukkie added.
The rest of them nodded in agreement. At both facts. Jimin pouted. Chimmy was not smelly, he was the best dog in the whole world. Tae, on the other hand, was smelly and a little piece of shit.
“Fine, fine,” Jin retaliated. “How about... whoever gets her number doesn’t have to pay rent for two months.”
There were murmurs of agreement.
“What about Jimin though,” Joon asked.
“We’ll pay her rent for her,” answered Hobi, still entranced by the waitress, who was taking orders at Table 4 at the moment.
“Good idea. So, may the best flirter win,” asked Tae, smirking.
Jimin sighed. This was already a bad idea. She didn’t agree for this to happen. But, she admitted, it would be fun to see them get rejected.
“Watch and learn, my friends, watch and learn,” said Tae triumphantly.
He flagged the waitress down, who walked the most perfect walk ever in existence over. She had flipped her hair along the way, and Jimin’s heart started pounding faster.
“Hello, I’m Yoonji and I’ll be serving you guys today. How may I help you,” she asked, with a hand on her hip and a notepad and pen clasped in her other.
Jimin had never felt as gay as she was at this whole moment. She would gladly let Yoonji murder her.
Joon took that thought straight from her head, leaning over and whispering, “I would willingly let her murder me.”
Eyes never leaving the waitress, she replied with a soft, “same.”
Taehyung started to order for them, knowing exactly what each person would want: pancakes for everyone.
“Will that be all,” Yoonji asked, tucking her hair behind her ear.
“One more thing,” Taehyung started. “But, can I have you as well?” He ended with a wink.
Yoonji barked a laugh, and slapped the table.
“If you were up to my level, maybe,” she laughed, her brown eyes twinkling with mirth.
She swayed away, still laughing as she walked to the kitchen to deliver the orders.
Everyone at the table glanced at Tae, whose mouth was wide open in shock.
“But- but that was so smooth,” he wailed, crying on Jeongguk’s shoulder. Jeongguk, the poor boy, looked highly uncomfortable, lightly patting Tae on the back.
“Not smooth enough for Yoonji, eh,” chuckled Jin, slinking a shoulder across Joon, who barked a laugh.
Jimin attempted to smother her laugh, in case it offends Tae. But it was too late, laughter bloomed from her mouth and she cackled with the rest of the group. Minus Tae, of course.
“Ok, so Yoonji won’t get affected by pickup lines. What would she get affected by,” the rest of them mused. Although Jimin would never admit it, she thought about it too.
“What about puns,” asked Jin. He was notorious for making really shitty puns amongst the group. Oh hell no. Not puns. Never puns. She used to enjoy them (not really) until last night ruined everything associated with the words pun and giraffe.
“Oh no no no, that’s not happening,” Jimin said, shaking her head. She had enough puns for one week, flashbacks to last night still fresh in her mind. And it was only Tuesday.
“I goddamn agree,” Hoseok said, slamming his hand on the table, earring some glares from other tables. “What about some literature? Girls dig for poems. Especially romantic ones.” He wiggled his eyebrows. Hobi whipped out some glasses that he does not need, and a literature book from 3 years ago when they were all still in college. “Let’s see, what are some popular love poems?”
“Oh no,” Tae groaned. “I forgot that chicks dig for poems.”
Jimin cackled again, once again reminded of Tae’s beautiful rejection.
“Let’s go, my hoes,” Hobi crowed for the whole group to hear. They all rolled their eyes; they were not hoes, thank you very much.
Hoseok waited until Yoonji was around their area before calling for her.
As soon as she saw his hand, she hurried over, with a notepad in her hand. Jimin just stared. She was so pretty, and so much higher than Jimin’s level.
Yoonji glanced at Tae, and a smirk appeared on her face, clearing remembering her rejection. She turned to face Hobi.
“So, sir, what would you like today?”
“I would like a soda please and-“
“What flavour?”
“Coke, but-“
“Alright, anything else?”
“Yes, I-“
“Nothing? Perfect! Your soda will be here in 2 minutes, and the food, in 10,” she cut him off shortly, choosing to reject him in an abrupt way. It was as she knew that Hobi was going to ask her out. Or for her number, either way works.
Yoonji turned, making eye contact with Jimin on accident. Jimin, obviously, freaked the fuck out. ‘Jimin, you need to stop freaking out, this is fine, this is fine,’ she hyperventilated. Yoonji gave Jimin a pitying look at the fact that she had to deal with Tae and the rest of the gang. She smiled once more, directly at Jimin, and went on to get Hobi his drink.
Hobi sighed, “She didn’t even give me a chance to recite my poem.”
This time, Tae cackled. “She didn’t even give you a chance to speak, I’m fucking crying!”
“Oi, you still got rejected too, you little shit. Respect your elders.”
Hobi and Tae started fighting on who’s rejection was worse. If Jimin tuned the two out, she could hear Yoonji laughing loudly in the kitchen.
//
Two more rejections later, and Jimin was starting to lose hope that Yoonji would ever agree to go out with her. Maybe she didn’t want to go out with anyone yet. Maybe she already had a girlfriend or boyfriend. Jimin mentally teared her hair out.
Joon and Jin also got highly swift rejections, followed by more laughter, by Yoonji and the others. Yoonji looked extremely entertained, and Jimin could see why. Tae and Hobi had both seemed over their rejections, choosing to laugh at Jin and Joon instead.
Yoonji, it seems, gave no fucks when it comes to rejecting someone. However, due to her job as a waitress, she needed to be “polite” and “formal.” Her rejections were harsh, yet quiet, as she did not need the whole diner to know. It was fascinating to Jimin.
Four pairs of eyes turned to Jeongguk. Tae grinned.
“It’s your turn now,” all of them, minus Jimin, chorused. Jimin secretly didn’t want Jeongguk to do it. It wasn’t that she didn’t want Guk to be alone forever, but Guk was extremely good at whatever he does. And Jimin really liked Yoonji, even though
Yoonji would probably never reciprocate those feelings.
Gukkie, the poor boy, looked confused, not knowing what to do.
“Come on, we all did ittt,” Taehyung whined, trying to shake Jeongguk’s shoulders.
“Now,” Jimin cut in. “If he doesn’t want to do it, it’s perfectly fine.” She turned to face Jeongguk. “Now, Gukkie, do you want a girlfriend?” It was basically all an ulterior motive, even though she would rather die than admit it.
He blushed.
“Oi, what kind of question is that,” Hobi and Tae asked incredulously.
Jeongguk’s eyes flitted to Taehyung, then to Jimin. Jimin caught that small movement, smirking. She knew that Jeongguk probably had something for Tae, which was surprising because who would actually want Tae. Not her, that’s for sure. Not the girls or boys in the neighbourhood either, which explains why he’s still single. But then again, so was she, but let’s not focus on her lack of a relationship and focus on Tae’s first.
“Um,” he replied nervously. “I don’t know?” He shrugged. “I rather focus on my university work.”
The four, minus Jimin, contemplated about his response. They had forgotten about that he was still in uni.
Tae smiled sheepishly. “I forgot, Gukkie. Whoops.”
“It’s ok Tae,” Gukkie smiled shyly.
Now, all four turned to Jimin. Who was extremely nervous. Who changed her mind about the entire thing. She wished she didn’t ask Guk that stupid question, then she wouldn’t be subject to all those stares.
“Oh, no no no, I’m not doing it anymore.” She waved her hands dismissively, laughing nervously.
They didn’t ask any questions, and nodded understandingly. Tae frowned, however.
“I thought that you were really into her?”
Jimin choked on her water. “Wha? What? Of course not? What made you think that?” She chuckled softly, unconsciously not meeting Tae’s eyes.
Unfortunately for her, Tae caught on.
“You so want her number,” he accused with a tiny smirk.
“Well. Well, maybe I do, but-” she laughed nervously, fanning her face.
“Come onnnnnn,” Gukkie cut off. It was so unlike Gukkie to whine. Whining was Taehyung’s thing. She rolled her eyes. She wasn’t falling for that so easily.
Jin and Joon laughed, it was fun seeing Jimin squirming and did nothing to help their friend.
‘Fuck you traitors,’ she seethed mentally. She was never helping them with anything ever again.
“Oof, let’s goooo,” Hobi and Tae whined in harmony. How they ever managed to achieve that, she will never find out.
“It’s your chance when she comes over with the Coke for Hobi,” said Tae, quite seriously this time.
“But I don’t want to do it?”
“You so do. Now swallow your nerves and get to it.”
“But what if she rejects me?’
“Then none of us are ever coming back again due to embarassment issues.”
The rest of the agreed; it was better never coming back than to face the embarrassment of seeing Yoonji in all her glory again.
Yoonji, on the other hand, was coming back with the Coke for Hoseok. Tae gently pushed her, urging her to get on it.
“Here’s your Coke, sir.”
Jimin swallowed all of her nerves, and slinked an arm over her chair, so that she can properly face Yoonji, who shifted to look at her.
“Call me,” she said in a sultry voice, mimicking calling with her hand, and using a suggestive wink.
Yoonji seemed pleasantly surprised, and quite red as well. She chuckled.
“I thought you’d never ask, sweetheart.”
She walked away, with of a more rigorous sway of the hips than before.
Jimin was 101% red. She still couldn’t believe that a babe like Yoonji would ever accept her request.
Tae clapped her on the back, with the rest of the group laughing and cheering for her.
“See, I knew that you can snag Yoonji!”
“It only came with a gallon of embarrassment,” chuckled Jimin nervously.
//
The bill later came, and as they later compromised, Tae paid the majority, as he was the first rejected. He still complained that wasn’t fair, but Jimin- and the rest of the group- paid him no heed.
On the back of the receipt, which Yoonji specifically gave to Jimin, had “xxx-xxx-xxxx call me, Min Yoonji ;)”
She looked around for the waitress, face red, and made eye contact. Yoonji smiled, mouthed “call me” and winked.
Jimin blushed and covered her face, mortified. Even all the way in front of the diner, she could hear Yoonji’s soft chuckles from the back.
//
On the way to the car, the teasing got way too out of hand. Tae and Guk were laughing at her red face, while Jin and Joon chuckled about how grown up she was.
‘Stupid pieces of shits,’ she thought, fuming. As they dropped her off, she smiled softly. She wondered just when could she see Yoonji and her five stupid, yet lovable idiots again.
