*tap* *tap* *tap*
He’s been tapping his fingers on the table for quite some time now. No matter how hard he thinks, he can’t think of a perfect gift to buy for Ieyasu-sama’s birthday.
*tap *tap* *tap*
“Mitsunari, if you continue tapping, you’re going to bore holes on the table”
“Forgive me Hideyoshi-sama” he said sheepishly “but I am at a loss on what present to give to lord Ieyasu for his birthday”
Hideyoshi sighed “well then why not get him a book?”
“A great idea and I heard there is a new delivery of books in town. I’ll go take a look” he bowed once to Hideyoshi and leave.
He arrived in town and was in time to see the bookshop opening. He was scanning the new arrived books when a title caught his attention “Guide: How to be a good boy friend”
“I can’t read the full title” he said confused “why do they have to place the price on the title” he asked to no one “but this should be perfect for Ieyasu-sama. It’ll help him get more friends” he said with a bright smile on his face.
He purchased the book and chose a yellow cloth to cover it with. Happy with his purchase, he went home.
Several days later
(Ieyasu’s POV)
‘It’s cold and windy. I’d rather stay at home, why do they insist on celebrating?’ finding it troublesome, he made his way to the castle.
It wasn’t that bad as he’d expected, the only attendees are the other warlords.
“Time for gifts then” Masamune exclaimed
“Really no need for that” he waved them off
“No, gifts will be given and I’ll go first. Here” Nobunaga handed him a new set of Haori. Masamune gave him a jar of homemade pepper flakes and Hideyoshi gave him new scrolls and brushes. Mitsuhide gave him jars of medicinal plants “I thought you might find them useful for your research”
“Thanks I guess” he mumbled.
“Ieyasu-sama this is my gift” mitsunari handed him what seems to be a book bound in yellow cloth “ I found them in the bookstore in town and it might help you out”
He raises his eyebrows as he opened the gift “ A guide book?”
“Yes, I thought it might help Ieyasu-sama to gain more friends if he read the guide on how to be a good friend”
He looks closely at the title and saw that part of it is covered so removed it and his face turns red upon reading the whole title “you? Did you read the book?” he asked Mitsunari
“Yes, parts of it only though. Like you need to know what their favorite things are, and to remember important dates.
“You didn’t read the whole book?” he asked, face still red.
“No, it’s for you after all”
“Well I don’t need this book” he said putting it aside
“Hey now, don’t be rude Ieyasu, Mitsunari spends a great deal thinking about your gift” Hideyoshi scolded him
“I would appreciate somewhat any gift, but not that”
“What is wrong with it?” Masamune took the book and gave a howling laughter “This is a guide book on how to be a good boyfriend. Now now Ieyasu I didn’t know that you and Mitsunari are like that” he added with a teasing smile
“N-no.. t-tha.. argh “ he stood up and grab his gifts before leaving the main hall, silently promising himself to never ever open gifts again in front of the others.
