a day with you

Summary:

“Wait, why is it so fucking cold?” He shivered slightly, mouth turned downwards to cast an annoyed pout.

“The heater is broken, remember?”

“Fuck, this is why I hate this goddamn place.”

“Katsuki.” Shouto quickly cut in, suddenly sitting up with his mismatched hair tucking out everywhere. God, he loved his bed hair. “Don’t insult our home.”

Work Text:

To say that Katsuki loved mornings, he himself wasn’t so sure.

It was a pretty cold morning—February doing its thing and the raindrops from yesterday still lingering in the air. The warm glimmer of morning sun escaped from the half-opened curtains, pleasantly fell into his face as he cracked his eyes open slowly.

Blinking the drowsiness away, Bakugou Katsuki shifted in his position, realizing he had his arms circled around something warm and instantly recognized the source of warmth was apparently his deep in slumber boyfriend. He was about to wake up the other, telling him to get ready and eat breakfast before his gaze landed on the peacefully sleeping face.

Katsuki sighed softly, an uncharacteristic smile was playing in his mouth as he propped himself up with his elbow to take a better look of the face right in front of him.

Pretty.

Mornings like this were the ones he was so sure why he loved it in the first place.

Silently, he raised a curious hand to trace Shouto’s face gently. Feeling warm cheeks under his fingertips as he kept tracing down the soft skin and staring down his face with pure adoration. Two fingers dropped lower from Shouto’s cheeks to his slightly parted lips, feeling the warm skin against his and willed himself not to land a sweet peck there, he wanted to savor this very moment, he wouldn’t want Shouto to wake up and caught him staring like a creep.

Katsuki let out another dreamy sigh, crimson eyes were dancing up and down to burn this image to his brain. Even after two years they had been together, a year of living together in this cramped as fuck apartment, he always appreciate these rare intimate moments shared between him and Shouto. They were always busy, villains appearing left and right, shifts kept changing as more menace showed itself to the surface and they barely had the time to deliver morning kisses when urgent calls forced one of them to get out early from bed.

Even today, Katsuki couldn’t tell if in seconds there would be a distress call or not. Neither of them could predict the outcome of a day, but he was certain he would be so fucking pissed if he couldn’t appreciate his boyfriend’s sleeping form at least five more minutes.

His mind wander back, back to the sleeping man in front of him as he slapped away the thought of another ruined day. Shouto was still sleeping soundly, and Katsuki’s eyes were still trained on the gorgeous face with unabashed admiration.

Five more minutes

“Stop doing that.”

Katsuki quickly retreated his hand when Shouto groggily voiced out, cheeks getting warmer as he coughed into his hand.

“What?”

“You’ve been looking at me like a creep for at least ten minutes now.” Shouto replied, his lashes fluttering softly as he cracked open his eyes to look at Katsuki’s reddening face.

Urgh, he put on his usual scowl as he sat on the bed, letting the other to wake up. “So? I can’t do that to my own fucking boyfriend?”

Shouto let out a chuckle and Katsuki eyed him. Mismatched eyes were still clouded with sleep when he answered, “Of course you can, you always can.”

“Don’t tell me you’ve been awake the entire time I did that.”

“Hmm, maybe?” Shouto yawned and stretched himself on the bed without having the need to sit up. “Unless you’ve been doing it longer than ten minutes, I was still asleep.”

He huffed and covered half of his face, five minutes were apparently asking too much.

There was a shift beside him, and he turned his head to find Shouto was pulling the blanket over his neck, rolling his body to face Katsuki and slowly closed his eyes again.

“Stop being a lazy ass and wake the fuck up.” Katsuki pulled the blanket away, receiving a disapproving frown from his sleepy boyfriend. Shouto didn’t even bother to open his eyes when he replied promptly, “I’m off duty today, Katsuki, let me sleep.”

“Do you want to miss breakfast?” His frown deepened. “And you’ve been sleeping more than ten hours, I don’t date lazy fuckers.”

Shouto hummed. “We did lazily fuck last weekend though,” his voice was half muffled, ready to propel himself into another slumber. “So you wouldn’t even date yourself then?”

Katsuki groaned out loud, “I’m not a lazy fuck and you know that’s not the context.”

A weary smile was there when he said that, and Katsuki sighed. Another minute passed by and that was when he realized the room felt colder than usual. He didn’t feel as cold earlier as Shouto’s warm body was pressed closely against his ten minutes prior, and now that his source of warmth was detached from him the wintry air felt even more jabbing to his bones.

The blond puffed, but smiled anyway. “Yeah, okay sorry.”

Shouto smiled back. “Wanna fix it then?”

Katsuki thought for awhile, he definitely hated the cold and wanted the shitty heater to work again, but he didn’t want it to ruin his day with the sleepy man and his wild bed hair. Not today.

“Nope, just do your thing.”

“My thing?”

He didn’t quickly answer, but instead he pushed Shouto’s shoulder gently back to bed and snuggled himself in between his arms, sighing contently against the broad chest behind as he let a small smile playing on his lips, unknown to the other.

“Your thing.”

Shouto let out an audible ‘oh ’ and Katsuki immediately felt warmth surrounded him from his boyfriend’s left side.

“So… I can get my ten minutes?”

“An hour is fine by me.”

Katsuki knew Shouto was smiling and he did so too before slumber took over both of them.

.

“Good morning, Katsuki.” Shouto walked into their shared kitchen space and quickly latched their bodies together, hugging him from behind. “You left me.”

The blond didn’t falter, he was still busy preparing their morning coffees. “It’s almost eleven in the afternoon, you ass. Unlike you, I have things to do.”

“I thought today’s your day off too? Anyways, can I have this for our breakfast?”

A phone was thrusted to his face from behind, Katsuki looked up, narrowing his eyes when he saw the picture Shouto showed him. “Waffles?”

He felt the other nodded lazily against his shoulder. “Do you need the recipe?”

“What, it’s not a normal waffle with maple syrup?”

“Uhh… it has cinnamon and ginger.”

“Oh, I can make that, don’t disturb me and go brush your teeth.”

“Do I smell that terrible?” Shouto asked and detached himself from Katsuki’s body. He finished stirring their coffee by then, bringing two matching mugs full of steaming black coffee to their breakfast table before finally took a look at his sleepy ass boyfriend walking away idly to the bathroom.

He bit back a smile noticing Shouto’s bed hair was wilder than it was three hours ago, white and red strands mixing up and tucking out stubbornly against gravity. His mismatched eyes were still unfocused, clearly fogged with sleep even after getting more than ten hours of sleep last night. It was almost cute and adorable when you didn’t include his bad breath every morning.

“You still look terrible.” Katsuki finally voiced out when he got back, heart warmed up after seeing how cute yet vulnerable Shouto was during mornings--and this was not even a morning anymore. “Nice hair, anyways.”

Shouto rolled his eyes and joined him on the table, groggily eyeing their obnoxious rainbow colored mugs labelled with a ‘GAY AF FOR HIM ->’ and ‘<- I’m not’ that was Shouto’s and his respectively, they were a gift from Kaminari when they started moving out and lived together in this apartment.

“Nice choice today.” Shouto commented--referring to their questionable huge collection of mugs--before taking a sip. Katsuki only snorted and took a couple of sips before standing up to prepare their breakfast.

Thirty minutes later after the waffles were ready, the morning felt warmer than usual although their heater was still broken.

“You know,” Katsuki looked up from his finished plate to Shouto’s slightly enthuasiastic expression as he scrolled down his phone. “I saw this picture of a curry and it looks delicious.”

“A curry?”

“Yes, Paneer on Ratatouille is the name, apparently.” A phone was shoved in his direction for him to take a look.

“Indian food? I never cooked it before, but I can try.” He nonchalantly said, finishing his coffee and gave Shouto his phone back.

“I know you can.” Shouto smiled at him. “Oh, and can we have soba tonight? I found this interesting twist you can add to cold soba.”

“What else you can add to a fucking cold coba?”

“Just look, here.” Shouto’s phone was once again in front of him, clearly excited this time. “And there’s another fun dish you can try tomorrow, swipe left.”

Katsuki furrowed his eyebrows at that, narrowing his crimson eyes suspiciously at Shouto’s impassive expression.

“You are arranging a menu here... are you making me into your personal chef?”

The questioned man only shrugged his shoulders. “That’s the reason why I’m dating you.”

Excuse me?

Shouto’s expressionless facade broke when he let out a faint laughter.

“That, and above many reasons why.”

Katsuki huffed, brows still furrowed but unable to hide his small smile hearing that. He hated how cheesy it sounded, he hated how Shouto was too sappy at times, but damn, he was willing to cook for him for the rest of his life if needed, he didn’t mind actually.

“Whatever.” He quickly stood up and collected their dirty plates, bringing them to the sink and turned the tap on.

Apparently, Shouto was fucking clingy today as he quickly wrapped his arms around his waist again for the second time that morning. To say that it was out of character of him, Shouto actually did hug him a lot of times during mornings like these, but on winters, usually it was the opposite. Two years of being lovers was enough time to appreciate Shouto’s warm body against his every single time.

“So,” the warmth provider started. “Since we are off duty today, do you want to do something?”

He thought for awhile, hands still busy cleaning the dishes and his head slightly tilted to the right where Shouto’s head was resting against his shoulder. “Like what?”

“I don’t know, something fun?”

“My kind of fun is cleaning the house and fixing the broken ass heater.”

Katsuki could feel how Shouto was frowning after hearing that.

“That’s not fun, the house is already clean because you clean it almost all the time but we can fix the broken heater I guess.”

“I’m joking.” He turned off the tap and wiped his hands dry. “I don’t want to go outside because it’s so fucking cold today, so I will only do indoor activities, alright?”

“Okay.”

“And since it’s also cold as fuck inside--not to mention our heater is useless, warm me up.”

Shouto nodded.

“Anything else?”

“Bring me snacks, and drinks.”

“Alright.”

He turned his body to face his boyfriend, who was deep in his thoughts probably thinking about fun indoor activities that requires his left side quirk and snacks. Katsuki almost whacked his head for thinking too much when the answer was so fucking clear, but he let it slide.

“I’ll do it under one condition.” Shouto finally said after one minute of deep pondering. Hearing that, Katsuki narrowed his eyes.

“What?”

“You haven’t given me my morning kiss.”

“For fuck’s sake.” He rolled his eyes. “It’s twelve in the afternoon, fucktard.”

Afternoon kiss.” Shouto corrected.

Katsuki’s unimpressed eyes were staring back right into Shouto’s amused ones.

“Are you kidding me?”

“I’m waiting, Katsuki.”

Feeling that Shouto wouldn’t ever give up, he eventually planted a sweet kiss to the other’s warm lips.

When they parted, Shouto smiled to him with sparkly eyes and face that was thirty percent more awake.

“Okay, now you can pick the venue.”

“Our couch.”

“Our couch it is.”

.

When the sun set and they had spent the rest of their afternoon having a movie marathon clad in their pajamas, a thick blanket stolen from their bed, and Shouto’s convenient fire quirk put into activation, they finally untangled themselves on the couch. Shouto had been sleepy most of the time, he fell asleep numerous times during the movie, and Katsuki had to wake him up because ‘ it’s getting colder and I know you’re falling asleep, asshole.’

It was a nice afternoon, the dinner that followed was also pleasant as Shouto actually helped him to cook the soba--since that was literally the only thing he had a knowledge about. They evening passed away quick as they finished their dinner, doing the dishes and having a silly argument about who had the worst bed hair.

Soon enough, it was almost midnight and the temperature dropped drastically when they finished their fifth movie for the day. Shouto suggested to end the session and retreated to their bedroom, Katsuki agreed.

Upon reaching their bedroom, Katsuki felt something wasn’t right.

“Oh fuck.” He sat down on their bedroom with a condemned expression. “We forgot to fix the damn heater.”

“It’s okay.” Shouto said, voice muffled from the huge and thick blanket they’d used before, he was struggling to carry it in his hands as the blanket was too big it covered his toe to his head. He dropped the blanket on their bed with a thud and quickly climbed himself up. “I can do my thing.”

Well, it’s true.

He followed him, laying on his sides to welcome Shouto’s open arms and got himself positioned between those arms once again. Shouto draped the blanket over them and tucking his chin on top of Katsuki’s head. But after a minute, it still was not warm enough.

“It’s still cold.”

“Really? Wait a minute.”

“No dipshit, a little warmer.”

“Alright.”

“TOO HOT.”

“Sorry. Uhh, like this?”

“Right, good, don’t move and keep cuddling me.”

He heard a sigh from behind him. “I’m your personal heater now, am I?”

“You should’ve had a remote somewhere on your body so I can control the temperature exactly the way I want.” Katsuki said, half smirking.

“My quirk doesn’t work like that.”

“Yeah, whatever. It’s more convenient like this anyway, I can voice command you all the time.”

There was another sigh from his boyfriend--slightly heavier. “I can’t believe I’m still dating you.”

“Shut up.” He chuckled, actually enjoying the presence behind him as his eyes started to drift off.

As the day slowly ended, Katsuki thanked the villains for not causing any immediate urgency that had to have him on the field. Today was so pleasant, everything was nice, he got to spent the rest of his day without interruptions and the most important thing being having the time to spend it with someone he loved so much.

Feeling the steady breath softly grazing the top of his head and with the same uncharacteristic warm smile like this morning’s tugged on his lips, he started to fall asleep.

Beep beep! Beep beep!

“Oh fucking hell.”

Shouto was quick to untangle himself from his body. “It’s your emergency call, Katsuki.”

“I know I know, urgh.” He quickly scrambled off from the bed, stumbling his way to strip himself from his pajamas and geared his hero suit as fast as possible.

“Ah, it’s past twelve already, you’re on duty today.”

Not long after that, a similar noise was heard from the top of Shouto’s work desk.

Meep meep! Meep meep!

“You changed your fucking emergency call alert to fucking ‘meep meep’?!”

“That’s not the point, emergency is an emergency.” Shouto quickly said, not giving a damn about the comment to his cute emergency alert.

Soon, he was off from the bed too, joining him to change clothes in a hurry of the situation. There was apparently a group of villains appeared downtown two hours ago and the heroes on duty were unable to fight them because of incompatible quirks. Their assistance was gravely needed.

Katsuki sighed, Shouto did the same too. They were finished preparing themselves and was already running to the scene.

“I can’t believe I’m stuck with you again.” Katsuki had said as they both ran, mouth turned upwards into a big grin he always put on whenever he was about to engage in a combat.

“Please don’t accidentally explode my feet again like last time we were fighting villains together.”

“Shut up, you were too slow.” There was a brief pause as he turned his head to look at Shouto who was smiling beside him, their eyes met and they both had the same determination to win this battle, just like how it’s always been.

“Well, let’s kick their asses today, Shouto.”

“Of course, Ground Zero.”
