Chapter Text

“That sounds good.”

Yoongi pauses the track and swivels his chair to face Jungkook, a small smile on his face. “So, what do you think about singing the song?”

Jungkook shrugs, leaning over to grab the lyric sheet. “I could try, but I don’t know whether my voice is suited for this song.” Yoongi waves his hand in the air before turning back to his computer. He rewinds the track to the beginning, and plays the intro.

None of this is a coincidence, I’m just going with the flow.

Pause. Yoongi turns back to Jungkook, looking slightly disgruntled. Something didn’t feel right. He glances at Jungkook apologetically. “Sorry, it’s got nothing to do with your singing— it’s great, love the way you use your breath, it just doesn’t feel right, you know what I mean? Like there’s something missing. Tell you what, I’ll go back to working on the track before we do another test run.”

“What kind of feel are you going for?”

“Like, innocent? I suppose? Sort of like the feeling of a first love,” Yoongi’s hands start to get more animated as he continues to explain. “I thought… Maybe it’s because you and her are still starting out, so you would be able to relate to the emotions of the song, so I asked.”

There’s a knock on the door, and Yoongi glances at the door. His roommate pops her head in with a grin. “Okay, Mr Musical Genius, are you done keeping my boyfriend away in your lair yet?”

Yoongi rolls his eyes, resting his chin on his palm as she comes in and settles in the chair next to Jungkook. The two kiss, eliciting a groan from Yoongi. She giggles, and the crinkles at the corner of Jungkook’s eyes start to form as they look at each other lovingly.

“Alright, alright,” Yoongi grumbles. “Get the fuck out of my ‘lair’ if all you two are going to do is just make out and simper at each other for the next five hours.”

He flinches when his roommate slaps his arm playfully, scowling at her.  She laughs, ruffling his hair before linking arms with Jungkook. “We’ll get going now, then. Don’t kill your eardrums, okay?”

Yoongi nods, waving them goodbye. He waits for the sound of the front door locking before turning back to his computer. He opens up his SoundCloud page and scrolls through new music others have posted.

agust d — 3.2k followers, 14 tracks uploaded, and 438903 plays. He smiles to himself as he scrolls through his tracks, playing one of them through the huge bluetooth speakers he had gotten himself as a ‘love yourself’ christmas present. Sure, his roommate wasn’t exactly ecstatic about him getting yet another speaker to put in his already cluttered workspace, but hey, it’s his workspace. The two had fought over the extra room in the apartment when they first moved in, and the dispute was settled diplomatically over a fair game of rock, paper, scissors with him winning all three rounds.

There’s a soft whine and scratching against the door to his music room, and Yoongi gets up to open the door. Holly pads in softly, circling around Yoongi’s legs before hopping onto his seat in front of his computer. Yoongi chuckles, going over to Holly and cradling him in his arms.

“Are you feeling lonely because Miss Snapstreak-Is-Life went out with her snap streak boy for the night?” He coos, rubbing Holly’s fur affectionately. “It’s okay, I’ll be here. Wanna listen to some Metallica with me? I’m gonna gain some inspiration for new tracks rather than work on that hellish ballad.”

Holly struggles to get out of Yoongi’s grasp, and he lets Holly down, watching him scuttle out of the door. Yoongi sighs, closing his door before returning to his laptop. He opens up the Metallica song Namjoon had recommended to him and lets it blast out from his speakers at full volume. A sigh escapes his lips as he flops onto the small couch tucked away in the corner of the room.

~

You toss your bag on the table and shut the door, slipping your tired feet out of your heels. A quick scroll through your phone for the ultimate go-to song when life decides to drop a boulder on your head, and you connect it to your speaker before playing the song.

Today was a hard day, wasn’t it?

A hard day indeed. Just when you thought life couldn’t get worse, your internship at the magazine company decided to dump all their problems on you. Who said being an intern only involved getting coffee and breakfast for the staff there? You sigh, grabbing a drink from the fridge. Well, at least it’s the weekend, which means not having to deal with anyone’s shit for two days before going back to hell— I mean, the workplace.

You could do with a little pampering session tonight.

The tub is filled to the brim with bubbles, you hissing slightly at the hot water when you dip your feet into the water, and slowly lowering yourself into the tub only to end up getting out of it. You fold your arms and wait for the temperature to lower by filling it with cold water. It’s only when you finally get into the tub with ease then you start to relax.

It is then followed up with swaddling yourself in your favourite fluffy bathrobe, a pair of bunny slippers you got from Jin, and a do-it-yourself seaweed mask. Your hair’s wrapped up in a towel and maybe you look like a mess, but who fucking cares when you’ve had a bad day. You sink into the recliner that you took months to save up for, closing your eyes and you’re just about to fall asleep when you woken up by the loud crash of drums and guitar from next door.

Really? It’s fucking 8pm and someone just had to play Metallica now?

The volume of the music doesn’t seem to be lowering anytime soon and you scowl, storming out of your apartment. You didn’t care about how you looked to your neighbour, all you wanted was for them to turn down the damn volume so you could enjoy your peaceful night alone.

You bang the door loudly, and you huff when the music stops. The door swings open to man who is slightly taller than you, his bangs hovering over his eyes, and his lips quirked up into a smirk.

“Look, I’ve tolerated your fucking nonsense for the past couple of months when you decided to blast your weird tracks on your speakers, but today crosses the line. Could you be more considerate of your neighbours rather than play fucking Metallica on full volume on a Friday night?”

“When I need inspiration from music I need to play it at full volume so it can sink into my bones, y’know?” He replies playfully. You glare at him. This fucker was really pushing it, wasn’t he?

“Listen up, Mr Mashup. Nobody fucking cares about your artistic intentions. You want the music to sink into your bones without disturbing your neighbours? Get a pair of headphones.
