yoonkook day 1: first time arguing

Summary:

“Ah, yeah, Jimin-hyung and I went just the other day.” Jungkook answers, and he doesn’t even turn to where Yoongi’s trying to show him his phone, just keeps staring at the TV, “It opened a week ago or something.”

“Oh, right.” Yoongi gets his phone back to his lap, stares at Jungkook for a second and swallows, trying to get rid of the irrational feelings already growing inside him, “Well, we should go anyway. It looks delicious. We could even go tomorrow, uh?”

This time Jungkook does spare him a look, one that looks like an apology, though he’s quick to get his eyes back on the screen as he says, “Uh, we were planning to go again, actually.”

“You and Jimin?”

“Yeah,” he confirms, and then turns to him when Yoongi stays silent, “But you can come along, hyung.”

You can come along, hyung. Ah. Crazy how casual, friendly, that sounds.

Work Text:

Min Yoongi can definitely admit, on any given day, that he’s not perfect.

He’s not perfect when it comes to the way he displays his feelings, mostly shy, wanting to appear as cold. He’s not perfect, trying so hard to look unbothered when he is bothered, trying so hard to be 'strong' and forgetting to express himself sometimes. He’s not perfect on a daily basis, either, often lacking energy that others may need.

And he’s definitely not perfect when it comes to relationships.

Sometimes his habits are too strong, the ones that make him cold, that force him to stay impassive in front of displays of affection. Sometimes he’s too quiet, and sometimes he’s also too loud, and sometimes - sometimes he gets jealous.

Yoongi’s lucky, though, really. Because Jungkook is amazing to him, and none of his imperfections ever seem to bother him that much. And they haven’t been in a relationship for that long, sure, but still. He’s always a sweetheart to him, even through his own imperfections, and there never seems to be any actual problems between them.

But Yoongi does get jealous. He does, because he’s got some self-esteem issues, a bit, and he’s trying hard to change it all but for now he’s only gotten aware of his jealousy problem in the four months of being with Jungkook. So it’s kind of new and quite hard to deal with, and until then he’s tried to hide it, mostly, but some days it's too much and so it gets harder to hide.

It’s late at night, Jungkook’s watching TV and Yoongi’s on his phone, and they’re chilling on the couch of their shared apartment. They're quiet and appeased, until Yoongi stumbles upon some news about a new coffee shop in town, that makes huge cups of beverages with lots of Korean desserts that look mouth-watering, and he gets wide-eyed at his phone, squirms in excitement,

“Hey, Guk,” he starts, awed-tone, and he turns his phone towards him, “We should try that place out, look- there’s a new coffee shop in town, just next to-”

It shouldn’t be casual - and it shouldn’t be so friendly, they’re not just, just friends, they’re - they’re boyfriends. Jungkook’s his boyfriend-

“No, it’s fine.” Yoongi says, and as soon as he says it he knows he’s too obvious, and he already went into defence mode, with an emotionless tone and straight face. “I don’t want to intrude.”

Jungkook sighs, staring at him as he tries to nudge him a bit with his foot, but Yoongi stays completely impassive and stares at the coffee table, tries to contain his hurt feelings.

“C’mon, it’s not intruding.” Jungkook mutters, “It’d be great if you did come. They make hwangnam bread, you love these.”

And Yoongi does, feels hungry just thinking about it, but - but he’s also hurt, already, and he knows it’s stupid and doesn’t make sense, but he can’t help it.

“We’ll just go another day. Whatever.”

“Ah, Yoongi. Don’t be like that.”

Yoongi looks up, then, and doesn’t change his facial expression but looks him right in the eyes, almost a challenge as he asks, “Like what?”

And Jungkook stares back, obviously taken aback, and then shakes his head and looks back at the TV, sighing, “Nothing.”

They stay silent then, because Yoongi doesn’t push, never does, never wants to - no matter what, he hates conflict, and he already feels like shit, so he doesn’t say anything and they pretend to still be watching TV, though it’s too obvious how tensed they are.

After some time Yoongi fakes being asleep, and just moments later Jungkook turns everything off, goes to him to shake him gently as he whispers, “Hyung- Yoongi, come sleep now.”

Yoongi grunts, mutters, “Tired. I’ll stay here.”

It’s bullshit. It’s such bullshit and he hates himself for it, when he just wants Jungkook to push a bit, to insist so that they’ll go to bed together and kiss and don’t finish the day like that - but he can’t help himself, not really.

And of course Jungkook doesn’t insist, because he respects Yoongi’s wishes all the time, is much too nice to him, so he doesn’t say anything, and still doesn’t comment when Yoongi turns away from him because he’s sure Jungkook will try to give him a kiss before walking away. He seems to stand in front of the couch for a second, and then Yoongi hears him quietly moving, and he waits until he hears the door to their room close before sighing heavily.

After some time he gets up to turn the lights off, and goes back to the couch, alone and bitter, with a lump in his throat. He lies down, pities himself even more for not having a blanket of any kind, and doesn’t have the heart to stop himself from going down that road, the one where he just keeps thinking about bad stuff, and keeps making himself miserable.

It’s the first time they argue. Well, it’s not actual arguing, admittedly, but. It’s the first time it’s so tensed, and it’s the first time they go to sleep while being so cold to each other - or while Yoongi’s so cold to Jungkook, more like. And Yoongi already hates it so much.

But he also hates thinking about how often Jungkook goes out with Jimin, because. Because Jimin really is so much better than Yoongi, and most of the time he doesn’t think of this, but there are - there are moments where he’s hit with dumb feelings over how much Jungkook loves Jimin, and so. He gets shitty. It’s normal that Jungkook loves Jimin, and that they spend a lot of time together. They’re best friends. Yoongi knows that, and he wouldn’t ever want them to stop seeing each other.

As soon as Jimin somewhat comes before him, though, he gets so self-conscious it hurts - gets stupidly jealous and thinks too much about how well Jimin and Jungkook fit together, and then he acts like a dumb teenager.

He starts quietly crying, because he’s a bit of a crybaby, and because he loves Jungkook and already regrets being so annoying over nothing at all. His sniffles sound too loud in the very quiet living room, though, so he manages to stop a few minutes later, wiping his tears away.

Still, he spends the night alone and guilty.

The next morning he wakes up too early because the curtains weren’t closed, and so at 7:30 in the morning he decides to just get out and go to that damn coffee shop himself. He puts on a coat, a beanie and a scarf because it’s the middle of winter, takes his wallet and then he’s out in the cold, taking his time before he arrives at the shop, a pretty place that looks cosy and warm.

It’s mostly empty, and he sits alone, gets hwangnam bread, and lets his thoughts slow down as he contentedly sighs around mouthfuls of it. Half an hour goes by, and by the end of it he’s feeling a lot better, ready at least to go back home, no matter what.

So he does, and then he lies back down on the couch, doesn’t realize that Jungkook was up until he speaks up from above Yoongi,

“Hey,” his tone is gentle, and Yoongi really doesn’t deserve him, even less when he kneels next to the couch just to nose at Yoongi’s neck, an arm circling him, “Where did you go? I heard the front door closing earlier and I got a bit scared.”

Yoongi looks up at him, smiles timidly, “Went to the coffee shop.”

“Ah,” Jungkook’s grin is hesitant then, “What did you think?”

“It was nice. Bread was delicious.”

“Great.”

Then they’re staring at each other, gentle but also pained.

“I’m sorry I’m such an ass.” Yoongi says, swallowing nervously.

“You’re not an ass,” Jungkook chuckles, kisses his forehead, “You just - need to talk to me.”

“Yeah.” is all Yoongi can choke out, then, though he tries to smile at him.

“So - what is it about Jimin?”

Yoongi shrugs, looks away, “I don’t know. It’s just - I just get jealous, it’s stupid.”

“You have no reason to be jealous, though.”

“Well. Jiminie’s great.”

“I mean, yeah, he is.” Jungkook rolls his eyes a bit, smiling fondly at him, “But I wouldn’t ever date him or anything.”

“But he’s - he’s so nice. And a sweetheart, and he looks good and has a great ass and dances beautifully-”

“Yeah, and guess who else is nice, a sweetheart, absolutely stunning and writes beautiful lyrics, and most importantly is my boyfriend? Guess who has an even better ass?”

And Yoongi can’t help but smile, biting at his lower lip to try to hide it, feeling himself blush a bit.

“That’s right,” Jungkook chuckles, his nose scrunched up as he stares intently at him, “You, Min Yoongi.”

“Hey,” Yoongi playfully slaps his chest, “So disrespectful.”

Jungkook just hums, and then he’s taking Yoongi’s wrists in his hands, pushing them against the couch so that he can lie down upon Yoongi, who huffs and cackles at how heavy he is.

“Ah, Kook-ah,” he whines, but gets stopped when Jungkook kisses him, and he kisses back happily, his heart full, and waits until they stop to complain, “I can’t breathe properly.”

But Jungkook pouts at him, and so Yoongi goes along with it, though he is breathing with more difficulty.

“I don’t want anyone else but you, hyung.” Jungkook states, looks at him intently, “I love you. You’re my boyfriend. I don’t want Jimin-hyung.”

“Okay,” Yoongi whispers, nodding slowly.

“And I understand that you can’t always help how you feel. But, y’know. It’s not good to be too jealous. Not good for me, but also not for you, so. We’ll have to work through this, right?”

“Yeah, right.” Yoongi smiles shakily up at him, “I promise I’ll try my best. And I’ll talk.”

“Please do.” Jungkook grins at him, and then kisses him again. “You’ll come with me and Jimin-hyung, this afternoon?”

“Um. Of course, if that’s okay.”

“More than okay.”

“I will, then.”

Jungkook smiles, and they stare lovingly at each other, before he says, “Now, it’s still early. Come to bed, this time?”

Yoongi nods, pecks him on the lips too, before they’re standing up, “Sorry about that, also.”

“It’s fine,” Jungkook takes his hand, guides them to the bedroom, “I just don’t want it to get too serious.”

“Me neither.”

And so they lie down in bed together, and cuddle and kiss and Yoongi is so relieved his heart feels ready to burst. They stay quiet for a moment, pressed against each other, before Yoongi speaks up,

“You’re a liar, though. Jimin’s ass is very obviously better than mine.”

And Jungkook giggles, making Yoongi smile in return, before he moves to mutter in his ear right as he grabs a handful of his ass, “Yours is my personal favourite.”

“Is it?” Yoongi rolls his eyes, “You’ve got shit taste.”

“Hey, no,” Jungkook bites at his ear in revenge, making Yoongi yelp, “Don’t insult that ass. It’s a cute one. All great.”

“Right,” Yoongi can only cackle breathily then, before they’re kissing, and as Jungkook keeps palming at his ass he figures that maybe they won’t actually get any more sleep that morning.

Instead they’ll enjoy each other, and Yoongi will be reminded of how much Jungkook wants him - not Jimin or anyone else - and at least their first argument will be a helpful one, to get them to talk through it all, and to help Yoongi be less jealous with some time. Because he loves his boyfriend, and his boyfriend loves him, and he only wants great things for them both.

In the afternoon they’ll go to that coffee shop with Jimin, and after an awkward little moment of Yoongi being a bit too quiet, they’ll spend a happy, healthy time all together, and it’ll be proof that Yoongi really can get better.

Min Yoongi isn’t perfect, sure. But he’s willing to better himself for people who deserve it, and that’s probably what’s most important in the end.
