Work Text:
The door swung open with Dazai supporting Chuuya, Chuuya’s arm draped along his shoulders. They slowly limped down the hall with Chuuya grumbling.
“I can walk on my own you know.”
“Sure sure. You couldn’t take out the last guy as you sprained your ankle but do tell me how you planned to walk without help.”
Chuuya glared at him silently, cringing at how messy the room was with beer bottles, takeout food packets and questionable magazines. Dazai quickly brushed them off, making space for Chuuya to settle down.
“Why can’t you take me to a normal hospital?” Chuuya grit his teeth as Dazai set him on the couch. He winced as he set his right leg up on the counter, ankle throbbing.
“Because we were on enemy territory. There aren’t any hospitals nearby. My home was the closest,” Dazai said as he dabbed cotton on the cuts and skin abrasions near his ankle.
Chuuya whined, “Ow ow ow….” each time the cotton touched his skin, stinging him.
Dazai sighed. “Why are you making a fuss out of nothing?” he said nonchalantly.
Chuuya said gritting his teeth, “That’s because it hurts!”
Daza went ahead and put a cold pack on Chuuya’s swollen ankle, getting another yelp from Chuuya. “You weren’t complaining much before...why now?”
“Oh I don’t know, maybe cause you aren’t being gentle?”
Dazai looked up to him, confused. “I’m helping you...Isn’t that enough?”
Dazai got up to get bandages, letting Chuuya breathe for a bit.
“Not at all Dazai. There is a lot more to giving help to a person than just fixing them physically you know…”
Dazai got back, unrolling the bandages, and started wrapping them around Chuuya’s ankle tightly.
“Oy oy! Loosen it up!”
“But it has to be tight!”
“Not this much! Loosen it!”
Something in Chuuya’s voice made Dazai jerk, and obediently loosened the bandage, making it just tight enough.
Chuuya let out a gasp of relief, moving his ankle around a little bit. He eyed Dazai, who had minor cuts and scratches. “Hey Dazai, let me fix you up.”
“No need,” Dazai said coldly, and proceeded to dab the antiseptic-soaked cotton on his wounds without flinching. Chuuya just watched in awe as Dazai patched himself with new bandages.
“Mori would patch me up after training.” Dazai explained, upon seeing Chuuya’s expression, “So I’m used to this.”
Chuuya gulped, “How often did you need it?”
Dazai shrugged, “A couple of times a day. Since my Ability isn’t combative, I needed to learn how to fight my own battles.”
He then smiled eerily and patted Chuuya on the head, “Makes me glad to have a chibi like you as my partner then.”
Chuuya was still with shock until he heard the ‘chibi’ comment. “Who the hell are you calling a ‘chibi’?! I’ll grow taller than you!” He was about to get up to hit Dazai, but remembered his leg as soon as he tried. He sat back down, nursing his foot.
Dazai chuckled at Chuuya’s outburst, “You’re so silly….”
His stomach grumbled, signalling that it was time to eat. “So...want to get food?”
Chuuya said, “Yeah, get a hamburger for me.”
“One hamburger it is for the angry one.”
“OY!”
“I’m kidding I’m kidding…” He said as he stepped out of the door, car keys in hand. “See you around!”
The door clicked shut, and Chuuya switched on the television, happy to get some peace and quiet before getting bored with not having Dazai around.
All in all, it was a normal day for Chuuya in his life in the Mafia.
