“yoongi-hyung?” jeongguk stood at the doorway.
yoongi looked up from his computer, having loads of unfinished work.
“yes, jeongguk?” he asked. he noticed that jeongguk looked tense. he was surprised that jeongguk came to him for a problem- he usually talks to namjoon.
“u-um, i’m.. i-i’m,“ jeongguk started. he fiddled with his hands and took a shaky breath. the dim lights in the hallway made his facial expression unreadable.
yoongi swiveled his chair around to face him better. he could still barely see him due to there being one lamp to illuminate the room.
“hey, what’s wrong? you know you can talk to me, yeah?” yoongi hoped he would be enough to comfort jeongguk.
jeongguk released a shaky, “yeah,” and shuffled closer to yoongi. he was still a considerable distance from him, though.
“scared. i-i’m scared of.. failing.” jeongguk whispered.
yoongi barely heard him. “scared, jeongguk? of failing? is that what you said?”
jeongguk nodded then let his head hang. “all of you. don’t want to fail you guys,” he repeated.
yoongi sighed and opened his arms. “come here, jeongguk. let me hug you,” he said sternly. yoongi felt upset that jeongguk had so much pressure to impress his hyungs.
jeongguk skidded closer to yoongi and wrapped his arms around him. yoongi wasn’t expecting his hug to be so tight and he was almost winded. he rubbed jeongguk’s back so he wouldn’t notice.
“listen, jeonggukie. the seven of us? we’re a team. if one falls, we help them up. we’re all in this together. and, let me tell you a secret,” yoongi brought his voice to a whisper. he made a show of whispering in his ear. “you’re not the only scared of failing, you know that?”
jeongguk shook his head against yoongi’s shoulder. he sniffled and yoongi guessed he let some tears fall.
“hey, hey. i want you to tell me you’ll be alright. can you do that for me?” yoongi asked.
jeongguk lifted his head to face yoongi properly. he did, in fact, have tear stricken cheeks with puffy eyes. yoongi’s heart almost shattered.
jeongguk opened his mouth slowly and said, “y-yeah. i’ll be alright. thank you h-hyung,” he said while nodding his head.
yoongi smiled and said, “good. thank you for talking to me. we’re going to be alright.”
and sure enough, in the distant future, they were more than alright.
