Summary
In the early 20th century, coal mines were full of dangers: poisonous gases, potential collapses, explosive materials. Then there were the more subtle threats: crooked dealings, systemic exploitation, lies that protected those with power. Survival meant watching one’s back; a stupid mistake could cost lives.
