He was running. From what, he wasn't sure. The only thing he knew was that if he didn't run, he'd die. He could feel it approaching him, creeping closer and closer and closer until-
"Jiminie! Wake up!"
Jimin bolted upright, breathing heavily. He squinted his eyes, seeing the silhouette of BTS's maknae standing next to his bed. "J-Jungkook?" He muttered dazedly, his heart still pounding from what he realized to be a very vivid dream.
The younger man hesitated, the bags under his eyes telling Jimin that he hadn't been able to sleep again. "Well, I, um... I woke up and I heard you and you sounded like you were scared, so I came in..."
Jimin ran his hand through his hair and stared at him with bleary eyes. "Thank you, I guess... I was having a nightmare. Jungkook, have you slept at all tonight?"
The younger took a second too long to answer. "Umm... yeah?"
Jimin shook his head. "Kookie, you need to sleep."
"I'm sorry, hyung. I tried, I really did. I just... whenever I closed my eyes, my mind wouldn't stop racing."
Wordlessly, Jimin crawled out of bed and outstretched his arms towards Jungkook, his chest filling with a comfortable warmth as the slightly taller man collapsed into them. "It's my stupid insomnia. I tried, I really did."
Jimin shushed him, stroking his hair. "Kookie, it's okay. It's okay."
Jungkook stayed in Jimin's arms for a couple minutes, the warmth and steadily beating heart of his bandmate soothing to him. Finally, he hesitantly asked, "Jiminie, are you going to go back to sleep?"
He felt the blonde's muscles tense. "I want to say yes, but I don't think I can."
Jungkook hugged Jimin tighter, willing him to relax. "Do you want to... I don't know... walk to the lake? It'll be quiet, it's only 1:15."
Jimin hesitated. "Do I have to change?" He was comfortable in his t-shirt and sweatpants, and the prospect of leaving the dorm didn't appeal to him much, but the more he thought about it the more a quiet walk with Jungkook sounded like something he could enjoy .
Jungkook pulled away from him, adjusting a couple stray locks of hair on top of Jimin's head. "Not if you don't want to."
"Okay. Let's go."
"Now?"
"Why not?"
Jimin impulsively grabbed Jungkook's hand, intertwining their fingers. Startled but pleased, Jungkook went along with it as the two exited their dorm together and headed out onto the open path.
The scenic lake was only half a kilometer from their home, and the path was paved, so Jimin could walk barefoot without too much difficulty. They walked in comfortable silence, swinging their interlocked hands back and forth. When they arrived at the sandy shoreline of the lake, the peaceful silence was almost overwhelming. The lake shimmered but lay still, and the moon and stars shone twice as bright in the reflection of the water.
"It's even more beautiful at night," Jungkook remarked in awe, kicking off his shoes and burying his feet in the soft sand. He pointed up at the sky, and Jimin followed his gaze. "That, right there, is Orion. I've never seen it so clearly before."
Jimin looked at Jungkook in surprise. "You know your constellations, huh?" Jungkook blushed and nodded.
"My mom taught them to me, when I was a kid. I've always been fascinated by the stars and zodiacs and all that. The fact that most of these stars are probably dead, but their light is still there for us to see? It makes me feel like we're special."
Jimin pinched his cheek playfully. "That's deep, yet adorable."
Jungkook's blush deepened. "They are pretty, though. Just look." He laid back on the sand, gesturing for Jimin to join him. Jimin sat down next to him, turning so he could lay his head on Jungkook's chest. He felt the rise and fall of the younger man's breathing and the rumble of his voice as he explained the constellations. As he gazed upon the countless spots of light in the sky, glittering fiercely, he understood Jungkook's facination. They truly were beautiful.
"Do you have a favorite constellation?" he heard Jungkook ask him.
"Libra, of course."
Jungkook snorted. "Basic. Mine's Andromeda."
Turning so he could gaze into Jungkook's eyes, he asked, "Why's that?"
Jungkook's eyes locked onto his own. "You'll think it's weird."
"Tell me."
"It's supposed to represent this lady who's chained to a rock and gets eaten repeatedly by a sea monster. I thought it was cool. That's why it's my favorite."
Jimin laughed out loud, his eyes folding into crescent moons rivaling the one in the sky. "I'm not surprised, just disappointed."
Jungkook grinned despite himself. "Hey, hey, you're a Libra, right?" When Jimin nodded, he continued. "I'm a Virgo. Means we're compatible."
Smiling, Jimin poked his chest. "Any reason why we're compatible?"
"We're both stuck up pricks," Jungkook said matter-of-factly, kissing Jimin's forehead.
"Yeah, that seems about right," Jimin giggled, wrapping his arms around Jungkook. They lay face to face on the sand now, their foreheads inches away from each other. "Has anyone ever told you about the stars in your eyes?"
Jungkook frowned slightly. "There aren't stars in my eyes. That's impossible. It's probably just light reflecting from-"
Jimin pressed a finger to the brunette's lips, shushing him effectively. "I know what it actually is. It looks like you've got stars in your eyes, that's all. It's almost like looking up at the sky."
As if he had flipped a switch, Jungkook's expression turned cocky. "Call me Mister Universe."
The blonde poked his cheek playfully. "No, I think I'll call you Starboy instead."
"But Mister Universe is so much cooler!" Jungkook complained, pouting.
"And Starboy is cute. Like you." Jimin stated with an air of superiority. "My statement is final, my precious Starboy."
Jungkook smiled, his eyes glittering. "Fine, it's cute. But you're cuter. What should I call you?"
Shrugging, Jimin lowered his voice to a whisper. "Just call me yours," he breathed, noticing the other boy quickly tensing as he drew closer.
He could feel Jungkook's soft breaths brush across his lips as the younger nodded weakly and managed to reply. "Yeah?"
"Yeah."
That was all it took for Jungkook to press his lips to the blonde's, warmth fluttering through his chest as he softly kissed Jimin under the stars. When he pulled away, Jimin laced his fingers through Jungkook's hair, playing with the brown locks absently.
"Jimin?"
"Yes?"
"I love you."
"I love you too, Starboy."
