Work Text:
The bed dipped down and creaked as pressure from another body plopped itself down on the covers next to Yoongi. “What are you doing in bed already? It’s only 11:00, hyung.”
Yoongi turned his head away from his phone, glancing at the man in bed next to him. Jungkook was freshly showered, his hair still damp and sticking to his forehead. Yoongi could smell the perfume from his body wash because of the close proximity of his body.
“Eleven is plenty late at night. You try staying awake past 11 when you have to work all day long.” Yoongi huffed and just to prove his point, a yawn escaped his lips.
Some days Yoongi had to work later than others and today was one of those days. He didn’t get home until closer to nine at night and by the time he was home, Jungkook was still locked up in his office working on one of his paintings.
“Hey, I do work, maybe not all day. But I work.” Jungkook protested, his lip jutting out in a pout.
“Yeah, making coffee for college students.” Yoongi tapped him on the nose, always wanting to give him a hard time.
“So what. I’m good at what I do and it gives me money. I even sometimes get tips, but that is only when I start to flirt.” His lips curled into a smile.
Yoongi just rolled his eyes. He knew that Jungkook didn’t try to flirt with people while he was working; he tried to stay professional even if it was just a fun job to have. Even if he were to flirt with people, Yoongi wouldn’t feel threatened by it in the least. He knew who Jungkook came home to every night and it wouldn’t ever be them.
The only time Jungkook would actually try and flirt with someone while he was working was when Yoongi went to visit him. Jungkook would act like he had never seen Yoongi before and would start hitting on him like his life depended on it and Yoongi would play along.
It was always fun to watch the looks on people’s faces at some of the things Jungkook would say to Yoongi, how far he would go to someone they thought was a complete stranger. Yoongi always had found it more adorable than he probably should have.
“You’re good at everything baby, that’s not an excuse.”
Jungkook hummed in agreement. “Don’t worry. One day one of my paintings will be bought for a whole ton of money and then we will be rich and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Yoongi chuckled lightly, putting his phone down on the desk next to his bed. “I can see you were working on one today.” He reached over and brushed his fingers against the paint that has stained part of Jungkook’s arm.
Jungkook looked down at his arm and rubbed at the paint that was on his skin. “I tried to wash it off in the shower, but it never wants to come off.” He furrowed his brows in slight annoyance.
“Well, until your paintings sell for more than 50 dollars, I’m going to have to continue to work at my mind numbing job. So I’m going to go to bed.” Yoongi yawned again, stretching out his arms above his head, his back cracking a few times as he does.
Jungkook frowned at him. “Already? I barely got to see you today.” Jungkook tried not to seem whiny, but Yoongi could hear it in his voice.
“I know baby, I’m sorry. I’m just exhausted.” He reached over to brush Jungkook’s hair back from his forehead. Jungkook was upset, that was evident on his face. “It’s the weekend in a couple of days. Then we can spend all day together, yeah?” He let his fingers trail down Jungkook’s jaw.
Jungkook pressed his lips together, blinking up at Yoongi for a couple of seconds. He relented, sighing quietly, offering a small smile. “Alright. Get some rest then, hyung.”
He tilted his head up, his lips searching for Yoongi’s, and he gladly obliged. Yoongi dipped his head down and pressed his lips against Jungkook’s, kissing him gently.
“Goodnight, I love you.” Yoongi smiled against his lips, pulling away and laid back down with his back towards Jungkook.
Usually if Yoongi went to bed earlier than Jungkook, Jungkook would go downstairs to play Overwatch or watch tv. This time he just stayed where he was, laying in bed next to Yoongi. He didn’t mind, he felt more at ease with Jungkook being near him anyway.
Yoongi laid in bed trying to fall asleep for he wasn’t sure how long. He could have easily fallen asleep, his body was tired enough. Something was nagging him though which was stopping himself from letting his body go to sleep.
He’s known Jungkook for a while and he can pick up on how Jungkook is feeling, even when he doesn’t express it outwardly. He could tell something was bothering Jungkook even without looking at him. He knew that he couldn’t let himself go to sleep without talking to him about it.
He shifted in bed, turning around to face Jungkook. Jungkook was staring at the ceiling, gnawing on his bottom lip, not even noticing Yoongi moving in bed. He reached out and placed his hand on Jungkook’s arm.
Jungkook flinched, unaware Yoongi was still awake. “What’s wrong?” Yoongi whispered.
Jungkook turned on his side, moving to be face to face with Yoongi. “I’m fine. Why are you awake?” He whispered back, like they were sharing a secret, even though they were the only two people in the house.
“I couldn’t sleep.” He lied, searching his face. “Now what’s bothering you?”
“Why would you think something is bothering me?” Jungkook said stubbornly.
Yoongi laughed quietly, leaning forward and kissed the crease between Jungkook’s eyebrows. “You’ve forgotten how well I know you sweetheart. I can’t sleep anyway, might as well tell me what’s on your mind.”
Jungkook licked his lips, then nodded, laying his head on one of his hands and the other hand reached out for Yoongi, his fingers playing with the collar of his shirt. “Do you actually think I can make a career of selling my artwork. Sometimes I feel like what I’m doing is pointless.”
Yoongi was caught off guard by what was bothering Jungkook. He was almost positive he was going to complain that Yoongi went to bed too early that night.
Jungkook had never really talked about his worries of being an artist. He would always talk confidently and would always reassure Yoongi that his artwork would be recognized. Yoongi had never seen any different feelings coming from Jungkook. So he didn’t expect to have this conversation.
“Of course what you’re doing isn’t pointless baby.” Yoongi reassured him, brushing his fingers up and down Jungkook’s arm. “What made you think it would be pointless?”
Jungkook shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “I’ve been trying so hard. And some of my work has been selling, but not nearly enough to make a living off of. So many people tell me how beautiful my art is, but if it was the good, then why hasn’t it been selling better?” He looked up at Yoongi, looking at him like Yoongi held all the answers in the world.
“Just because your art isn’t selling right now doesn’t mean that it never will.” Jungkook gave him an unsure look, so he continued. “What you’re doing isn’t easy. If it was, everyone would be doing it and making money off of it. So don’t get too discouraged, okay? Your time will come.”
Jungkook looked as though he was starting to believe Yoongi’s words, but not quite yet. “I just want to make enough money for us so you don’t have to work so hard.” He murmured, so quietly Yoongi almost didn’t hear what he said.
Yoongi’s heart ached at his words. He never wanted Jungkook to feel like he was less than enough.
“Baby.” Yoongi said lowly, trying to make sure that Jungkook knew he was being serious. “I know I complain about working a lot, but you don’t need to feel that you need to make a lot of money for me to be happy. Even if you did get a lot of money, I would still want to work.”
Jungkook pursed his lips, stroking his fingers against Yoongi’s collarbone. “I know. I still feel like I am not carrying my weight. You’re right hyung, working at a coffee shop isn’t going to get me very far.”
Yoongi frowned, suddenly feeling awful about all of his jabs. “You know I was just teasing you about that right, sweetheart? You just got out of college last summer, you are doing a perfect job.” He brushed his finger against his cheekbone.
“But-”
“No.” Yoongi hushed him with a quick kiss to his lips. “You are extremely talented and I know your artwork will sell big. Even if it doesn’t, I’ll be right here, continuing to support you.”
Jungkook’s lips quirked up and a faint pink spread across his cheeks from the compliment. He didn’t say anything for a couple of minutes, he just traced his fingers against Yoongi’s neck, feeling over his skin.
Yoongi closed his eyes again, letting himself be lulled to sleep by his touch. He wasn’t able to fall asleep because he heard Jungkook’s voice speak softly in the room, his voice never above a whisper. “I think I’m going to give Jimin a painting for his birthday. Do you think that’s a good present?”
He opened his eyes again, lifting a shoulder, a small yawn escaping his lips. “I don’t work with him, so I don’t know him as well as you do.” He paused. “I would be fine with a painting as a gift.”
Jungkook looked at him skeptically. “You would?”
“Sure.” Yoongi said casually. “I would much rather have a different gift from you, but I would accept a painting.” He lifted his hand and rubbed it down his side over to his butt.
Jungkook shoved him in the shoulder gently, scowling adorably at him. “You’re such a perv, hyung.”
Yoongi laughed, giving him a little squeeze for good measure. “You’re so annoying.” Jungkook groans, swatting his hand away.
“You want it as much as I want to give it so don’t you even try me.” Yoongi moved his hand to grab at Jungkook’s sides, trying to tickle him. Jungkook yelped out, rolling in towards Yoongi as he curled into a ball, trying to push Yoongi’s hand away.
“Yoongi hyung.” He wheezed from giggling. “Stop it. Please.” He begged, trying to get out of his grasp.
Yoongi stopped, beaming. “Fine. Only because you’re so cute.”
Jungkook laid on his side, trying to catch his breath. “You’re lucky I love you.”
Yoongi chuckled, leaning down and kissed his forehead. “I love you too.” Jungkook tilted his head up, kissing Yoongi on the lips instead. Even though he was out of breath from laughing, he wanted to feel Yoongi’s lips on his.
They spent a while like that, Jungkook in Yoongi’s arms, kissing unhurriedly. When they weren’t kissing, they were talking. Yoongi talked a little bit about how his work went that day and Jungkook talked about trivial things.
Thought Yoongi was still extremely tired from the long day he had at work, he didn’t mind talking to Jungkook.. He wanted to go to sleep before, but he realized that this was much better than sleeping.
Laying next to Jungkook in the darkness of their room with the only the light from the moon shining through the closed curtains. The hushed whispers and stolen kissed late at night.
Yoongi realized that as much as he didn’t want to stop talking to Jungkook, his eyes were having a hard time staying open. As Jungkook was talking Yoongi looked at the alarm clock on the nightstand by their bed.
He had to blink a few times to make sure he wasn’t seeing things. He couldn’t help but laugh, turning back towards Jungkook. Jungkook stopped mid sentence, looking towards Yoongi. “Why are you laughing?”
“Do you know what time it is baby?” Yoongi rubbed his eyes.
Jungkook’s lips turned down as he sat up a little bit to look over at the alarm clock. “Shit hyung, is it really almost 2 in the morning?” Jungkook covered his mouth. “I didn’t mean to keep you awake for this long. Oh my god. I’m a terrible person. What are you still doing up, go to bed right now, you work tomorrow!”
Yoongi ran his fingers through Jungkook’s hair, trying to sooth him. “Don’t blame yourself Guk. I wanted to stay up and talk to you.”
Jungkook shook his head, fussing over Yoongi, pulling the blankets more over him, and making sure he was laying down. “Go to bed. I’m serious. I’m so sorry you are going to be so tired tomorrow.”
Yoongi sighed, curling under the covers, wanting to fight Jungkook a little more about it to let him know that it wasn’t his fault, but now that he was really thinking about it, he could feel how tired he was.
“Alright alright, I’m going to bed.” Yoongi grumbled. Jungkook laid close to Yoongi, closing his eyes immediately as if him closing his eyes would help Yoongi go to sleep faster.
Instead of Yoongi closing his eyes as well, he took a moment to gaze at the younger in bed with him. His stomach clenched with an overwhelming feeling of love for him. Before going to bed, he had to let him know, even if it was said multiple times before.
“Jungkook?” He whispered.
“Go to sleep hyung.” Jungkook huffed, not opening his eyes.
“Look at me.” Jungkook peeked an eye open, humming in acknowledgment.
Yoongi reached over and took Jungkook’s left hand, lifting it to his lips, and kissed his knuckles. He felt the cool metal of a ring against his lips. “I’m really happy I married you.” He murmured against his knuckles.
Jungkook smiled warmly at Yoongi as happiness filled his chest at his words. “I’m glad you put up with me.” He said in a teasing voice, but Yoongi could hear the love and gratitude in his voice.
With that he could finally let himself relax. He may feel horrible the next morning because of the lack of sleep, but it was worth it to be able to make Jungkook happy. Some people were worth losing sleep over.
Jungkook was one of those people.
