Chapter 1: School of dreams

Chapter Text

“My name is (y/n) (L/n) my quirk is ‘copycat’ everyone tells me my quirk is amazing, but I hate it. I wish I didn’t even have a quirk. The main point of a quirk is that no matter what it is it’s YOURS and you can learn how to best use it. My quirk is just borrowing others”
You shut your phone off light smile on your face. The video was of you eight years ago when you were just six years old, you were now fourteen on your way to the U.A entrance exam. You wondered how former you would look at you now, probably with a scowl. You still thought your quirk was far from great but at least you now had hope you could use it to become a hero. Your quirk allowed you sense a kind of aura from a person’s quirk and copy it allowing you to use their quirk, but only if they were close enough to you.

Before you knew it, you were sat in the massive auditorium listening to Present mic explain/ yell the instructions for the first test. It didn’t seem particularly difficult, you knew you could pass the written test easily enough. You had been training and learning a lot in the past year, enough to make you confident in passing the written test anyway. You were a little worried about the physical though because your successes essentially relied on who you ended up standing near and how simple their quirk was. Your stomach rumbled reminding you that you skipped breakfast and pulling your attention back to the explanation.

You stood around the entrance gate gazing at the others around you. You didn’t recognize any of them but then again you would have been surprised if you did. Due to the nature of your quirk it was to your advantage to know other quirks, so you knew the name and quirk of most pro heroes however it was just unrealistic to know every up and coming hero. You didn’t realize you had zoned out until everyone around you started running into the city bock. “Guess were leaving” you mumbled as you picked up pace and followed the crowd.

You would have liked to go off on your own, but you were restricted by your quirk into following others around. Luckily it didn’t take long until you spotted some enemies. A boy with striking yellow hair was currently being approached by two at once. You watched from nearby until you saw him shoot electricity at one. You grinned, “Nice and simple” Taking a deep breath you ran in towards the one on the left, which you recognized as being more points. “I got this one you get the right” You probably weren’t supposed to team up during this exam, but a little cooperation wouldn’t matter right?

You focused in on his quirks aura and quickly began shooting your own bolts at the machine. He soon caught on and took down his own, you were gone before he could say anything to you.

The next person you found was a boy with bright red spiky hair, did everyone here have unnatural hair colours? You observed for a few seconds and easily saw his quirk seemed to be one form of another of hardening. You felt slightly bad about what you were planning on doing but hey- you had to get points somehow.
You jumped down from the building you were watching from, hardened your own skin and landed the finishing blow on the already damaged machine before running off yelling a “Sorry” to the poor guy.

The rest of the exam followed in much the same style, that was until the giant zero point came. You looked around desperately for anyone with a speed quirk, not seeing anyone you decided to just leg it anyway. You soon saw a girl up ahead. She looked as though she had hurt her leg and was moving at half the speed of everyone else.

You willed yourself to leave but just couldn’t. Slowing to a jog you offered up your hand which she took after a second. The two of you didn’t speak much but at least you were making some progress in moving away. That was when you heard a colossal boom you slowed and looked over your shoulder to see a boy falling from the robot which was now rather beat up. You wondered what his quirk was and how he managed to land such a big blow to the giant machine. That was when you noticed he wasn’t doing anything to stop his fall.

You held your breath and screwed your eyes shut… Only to see him floating a few inches above the ground when you opened them again. A girl to his side seemed to be responsible. At least he was ok, well maybe not ok but not dead at least. You turned to the girl next to you, “You ok?” she nodded eyes still on the boy and then snapping to you “Thank you so much! What’s your name?” you smiled, at least she was grateful that’s more than some people “No problem it’s (Y/n)” she smiled thanked you again and then left in search of a friend of hers.

The exam was soon over and you were back at home like nothing ever happened, the only difference being the anticipation and nerves in your stomach for the results. It took a whole week but finally, you were sat at your cramped desk with a letter and no idea how to get the willpower to open it.

Finally, you worked up enough courage to open it finding a small hologram inside, wow they really didn’t skip out on budgeting this did they you thought wishing you had that kind of money. A man you immediately recognized as the pro hero and teacher Eraser head walked on looking like he would rather be anywhere else. “U.A only accepts students with the highest capability and the highest chance of becoming heroes” oh great, the ‘even though you were good you weren’t that good’ speech.

He continued in the same monotonous voice, “So we would like to welcome you to our hero program. The details are in the letter, congrats” you sat there staring at the now blank hologram. You got in! “I got in!” You jumped up in the air before quickly sitting back down and ripping the letter out of the envelope.

-----------------------------------One week later--------------------------
“Nope, nope, nope” You wandered down the hall looking at each of the door plates. You were finally here, at U.A, the school of your dreams. “Nope, nope, nope, wait” Yep that was it “Class 1-A” Tentatively you walked into the room to see students filling the room. Well, I better introduce myself you thought whilst entering the room fully. You walked towards the first group of people and immediately recognized a few people.

As you walked over you watched them all chatting and laughing, were they all friends already? Did they go to the same school? People with friends from their previous schools were so lucky, you felt kind of alone as you knew no one in the room.

In the group was the boy with the lightning quirk and the one with the hardening quirk, also the boy who defeated the zero-point monster and the girl that helped him. Wow all of them got in, pretty impressive. You couldn’t help but feel intimidated by the green haired boy; how strong must his quirk be? You walked up towards him and introduced yourself, better to be confident that shy you thought but that was easier said than done. “Err hi nice to meet you” He turned around then looked at you “H-Hi, I err my names err M-Midoriya”

You almost laughed, the boy you were so scared of was this shy. You settled for smiling though and added “I’m (Y/n) (L/n)” Before he could answer the girl next to him perked up “Nice to meet you!! My names Uraraka!” her excitement was contagious, and you found yourself genuinely smiling back at her. She then gestured to the people around her one by one “This is Iida, Kirishima and Kaminari” they all smiled at you as she said each of their names.

That was when the guy named Kaminari exclaimed “Hey you’re that girl who helped me! You have a lightning quirk just like me that’s awesome!” before you could speak up to correct him Kirishima spoke “Wait no you must be mixed up she stole a kill from me with another hardening quirk” you opened your mouth to explain but Kaminari was quicker “No no it was definitely her” Before a full out argument could start you butted in.

“Your both right” they all turned to look at you and Iida was the first to question what you meant “How is that possible a person can’t have multiple quirks” you sighed, well better get ready for the obligatory ‘that’s so cool’ and ‘so can you…’ that were bound to follow this.

“I can copy the quirk of anyone as long as they are close enough” you didn’t pay much attention to the remarks, but they were cut short anyway as your teacher entered the room. It was Eraser head again. He told all of you to sit down and you chose a seat in the middle of the class next to some people you didn’t know yet. You chose this seat as it meant you could feel the quirk of everyone in the room.

You didn’t pay to much attention to the teacher, probably not the best idea if you wanted to do well but whatever. Instead, you felt each quirk one by one. The first one that caught your attention was one of a spiky blond-haired boy. His aura was dangerous, uncontained and strong, you wondered who would have a quirk like that and what it was, you guessed his quirk was nothing like yours. You continued looking around the room.

You paused as you got to Midoriya his aura seemed… familiar in some way yet you couldn’t place where. Maybe you were just over thinking. The next one that caught you off guard was off a quiet boy who sat at the back. You immediately recognized him as the son of Endeavour the number two hero. His quirk was strong but conflicted, to be expected you guessed as he wielded both fire and ice but it still bothered you. The quirk was his and he could use it, so the two sides should be compatible and work together. It didn’t make sense, but you didn’t dwell on it for long as you were soon being handed P.E uniform. The class was sent to get changed and head to the field for yet another test.
