Chapter Text
Darkness. That was all that surrounded him. In this inky blackness, there was nothing. No sight, no smell, no sound. There was nothing to hold onto or grasp at, nor was there anything to be grounded to. There was no tether, no chain. He floated freely in the black pitch that had consumed him. He was…free.
From his guilt. From regret, pain, all the wickedness that he'd allowed to enter his being. The darkness that embraced him now was unbiased, neither good nor evil. It was just as much a prison as it was his paradise.
Wherever he was, he was content. But…something nagged at him. Kept him conscious, tugged at the frays of this emptiness in which he resided. It ebbed and flowed, just beyond his reach. A quiet lilting that called and asked to be answered. It was a soul. His soul. Had it always sounded so hauntingly beautiful? But the call did not come from within this black pitch.
It was further, far from the clutches of nothingness. It was loud and vibrant and free, a part of him that longed to be made whole. It was out there…waiting. He could feel it, sensed it with every part of his being. That light-if he could see it-was surely bright enough to fill this void with scorching rays the inky blackness would never dare touch.
And suddenly, he was looking up at a vast ocean of blue. Earth’s sky.
