Work Text:
Green. Green is all he sees around him. Green leaves blowing on the trees, dancing along with the rhythm of the wind. The grass he sees beneath his feet bares the same vivid sage color, and the turquoise sky looks down upon him warily. Every now and then a stray ray of sunshine will peak through and cast a golden glow along the branches, but for the most part the foggy forest stays a monochromatic collage of green. He’s been here before, many times, in this same green landscape. The forest so familiar and vivid to him, yet different every time he visits—the forest and its inhabitants continue to move and change even when the hunter isn’t there to see it.
The young hunter can hear a creek babbling softly to his right, about a fathom’s length behind him. The sounds of birds chirping play in harmony with the soft rush and patter of the water. All is calm as the young hunter stalks forward, following his prey. He’s been following this doe for a while on his limber feet, and he thinks he’s just about found the right time to make his shot. The hunter relaxes and stealthily reaches for his wooden bow, marked with the name ‘ Yoongi ’ that is carved onto it in swirling letters. He quietly nocks the arrow and pulls back, aiming just behind the deer’s front leg. The hunter, Yoongi, must act quick—otherwise the doe will take notice of his presence.
Just as he goes to release his bow a cold surge of air passes by him, blowing his black fringe across his forehead and into his eyes. The hunter startles at the sensation, disoriented by the breeze, thus he misses his shot. The doe scampers off, alerted by the sound of Yoongi’s bow and inevitably the hunter loses his prey.
“Shit,” he spits out underneath his breath, only then turning around to see what caused the movement of the wind.
Green yet again, fills the majority of his vision. The olive, mint, and chartreuse paint the forest in front of him, only there is no trace of any sentient being that could have caused the disturbance in the air. The light fog in the forest offers a little differentiation in the color palette for Yoongi, and yet he still can barely see. The fog feels heavy and thick, the humidity finally starting to get to the hunter. He picks at the white tunic stuck to his chest with sweat, the fabric soaked through. A sigh slips through his lips.
The hunter’s mind is baffled, he swears that the gust of wind had felt to powerful to just be a act of nature. The rush of cool air felt more like a presence that was playfully darting beside him with a soft breeze. So, Yoongi continues turning around on the spot, eyes darting in each direction looking for the source of the movement.
He almost gives up and goes to pack his hunting gear in order to return to his cabin, when all of a sudden there is a movement in his peripheral vision that causes him to look up. Up ahead through the green tinted fog, a flash of powder blue erupts across the path Yoongi’s walking along.
Yoongi blinks, dazed and wondering if what he had seen was a figment of his imagination. He continues to slowly walk along the trail, apprehensively in case something startles him again. Being a hunter has taught Yoongi to be extremely attentive and conscious of his surroundings. For a few paces all seems well, the only stimuli in his environment being the sound of the creek and forest animals along with the greenery and fog.
Then suddenly a flash of blue darts across the trail again, though this time Yoongi can make out more. It isn’t just a mass of color, but a figure dressed in cloth the color of blue hydrangeas. The figure seems to be about his height, and is clothed in a flowing mass of chiffon decorated with multicolored flowers. It appears to be a human, or at least human enough. However, the creature also emits some sort of magical aura, a golden air radiating off its body. This leads the hunter to believe the bright youthful mass of blue is some magical woodland being. From his leith figure and the soft pink glow he radiates, Yoongi assumes he is of fae origin.
The fae darts back into the foliage, his long gown disappearing with him. Yoongi’s back stiffens at this epiphany. Fae are known to be mischievous and deceptive creatures, and while most are generally harmless, he had been taught to stay wary of them in case he meet one with malicious intentions. The raven haired hunter hikes up his bag carrying his weapons higher on his back and grips the strap. He intends to mind his own business and just get home, ignoring the fae. He knows that despite not being able to capture a kill today, his band of hunting brothers and him have enough food to last for a while. Yoongi had just wanted to procure extra meat in order to sell when he goes into the village this week, but he’s sure neither Namjoon or Hoseok will mind that he did not catch the doe today.
Yoongi continues down the path, confused as to why it is taking him so long to reach the cottage that he shares with the other two hunters. The path he’s been on should have led to their dwelling by now. Actually Yoongi doesn’t really remember getting to this part of the words in the first place. When did I even begin hunting, I don’t remember getting ready this morning? What is-
The young hunter trips on a awry stone on the path he had not been aware of a second before. As he falls down, world of green blackening quickly around him, Yoongi hears a faint trill of beautiful laughter.
The hunter jolts awake, and unfortunately ends up hitting his head atop the wooden railing directly above his bed. Shit, fuck.
“Keep it down, won’t you Yoongi,” Hoseok’s voice floats down from the bunk above him, “some of us are still trying to sleep, it isn’t even dawn yet!”
“Sorry,” Yoongi whispers back to his housemate. His eyes dart to the other side of the room, checking to make sure that Namjoon was not awaken from the commotion. He’s met with the sight of their other housemate’s snoring form peacefully sprawled out across his bed. Thank God , Yoongi really doesn’t feel like listening to both Hoseok and Namjoon gripe this morning.
He tries to fall back asleep to no avail. The jittery feeling from his dream stays with him, making the task of succumbing to slumber impossible. He sits up, making sure to watch out for the wooden support beam this time, and peers out the window. Hoseok was wrong, dawn is just now breaking. The sun’s golden glow slowly starting to rise over the horizon. Yoongi decides it best to just start his morning early then.
The dream he had this morning is the same recurring dream he’s been faced with ever since his companions and he moved to this cottage months ago. It is always so vivid and bright, the green of the forest so breathtakingly real; Yoongi never knows he had been dreaming until he awakens. The dream cannot help but follow him around whenever he goes to hunt in the forest. Yoongi feels the gaze of the woodland creature from his dreams every time he steps foot into the woods. He knows it is ludicrous for him to think this way. Fae are only mythical creatures of fairy tales that parents use to frighten their children from wandering into the woods alone. However, the hunter just can’t help but sense another pair of eyes on him during his hunting trips.
Yoongi gets up quietly, making sure to not wake the other two men. The three of them all grew up in the same village together and decided that it would be best to live with each other instead of surviving alone until they found significant others to start families with. They take turns hunting and it’s Yoongi’s turn to go out into the forest today. Hoseok and Namjoon should wake in a hour’s time and prepare their goods to take to the town’s market today.
Yoongi quickly prepares himself for the day. He bathes and grooms himself, tying half of his ink black hair up into a small ponytail—he’s been meaning to go into town for a visit to the barber’s. He dons his plain green hunting clothes and well used hunting boots; a small meal of oatmeal and fruit fills his stomach, before he goes to his hunting gear and leaves the cottage for the day.
The forest’s greenery is just as vibrant as it was in his dream. A mist resides throughout the forest, it mixes with the surrounding greenery and forms a beautiful yet ominous shade of sage. Leaves and small pieces of branch crunch underneath Yoongi’s feet as he makes his way deeper into the woods. The sound combines with the babbling of a distant creek and the frequent chirp from a bird. The woods are the same as they are everyday Yoongi ventures into them, alive and effervescent.
Soon the young hunter spots his prey for the day, a young doe lazily sifting through the forest floor for a meal. Yoongi follows the creature, waiting until the right moment to make his shot. Every now and then the doe moves to another grassy patch, and the hunter trails after. The feeling of a pair of eyes follows the hunter as he stalks his prey, sending the hairs along the back of his neck to stand at attention. Yoongi glances behind him, to see if he himself has fallen prey to another predator. The only thing the hunter finds though, is the same vibrant mint and olive shades of the forest. Briefly the hunter believes he sees a splash of pale blue blend in with the green in his peripheral vision. With the recurring dream still fresh in his mind, Yoongi writes it off as an apparition of his mind.
His attention turns back to the doe, who seems to have scampered off while Yoongi was distracted. Yoongi startles at this, he never lets prey escape him, hunting is something he excels at and his skill for it is something he prides himself on. The hunter quickly stands up and makes to locate the young doe again.
However, the hunter makes a mistake for the second time that day. In his haste to find his prey again, Yoongi does not watch where his feet go. The hunter’s boot catches on a stray log and his world turns upside down, literally, as his body crashes down onto the forest floor. His head hits the trunk of a neighboring tree, and the last thing that fills Yoongi’s vision before the world turns completely black to him is a flash of periwinkle blue and an array of pastel flowers.
A pounding in his head presents itself to Yoongi when he awakens. Fatigue settles into his bones and ligaments, the hunter so tired he does not feel like opening his eyes yet. The dull red color of the back of his eyelids fills his vision rather than the usual cold lonely black that greets him when he closes his eyes. So there must be light filling the room, however it is too bright to be a candle lit by Hoseok or Namjoon in the dark of the night. Yoongi assumes it to be morning then maybe even well into the afternoon, and curses himself for over sleeping. It was his turn to go into the forest and hunt today, and if he does not get out of bed soon the whole day would have gone to waste.
Yoongi wonders why neither Hoseok nor Namjoon took upon themself to wake him up. It’s quite odd honestly, they’re close enough that it is not considered rude to wake each other up in the morning. In fact, it wouldn’t be the first time Yoongi’s needed to be woken up after oversleeping, he finds just as much enjoyment in sleeping as he does in hunting.
The sweet scent filling his nostrils is the next thing that raises Yoongi’s suspicions, makes him understand that something is off. A delicious mixture of honey and jasmine fills the room, surrounding every inch of Yoongi. Adelightful overload to his senses not unwelcome at all. However, it is definitely different than the smell of pine usually occupying his cabin.
Yoongi slowly pries open his eyes, the crust and mucus caked on them making the task difficult. Wow it feels like I’ve been sleeping for a eternity. His legs and arms spasm slightly as he tries to move his tired joints. A slips past his lips as he finally blinks open his eyes.
Well, that’s peculiar.
Where the wooden beams of the bottom of Hoseok’s bunk should be, a multitude of different flowers—peonies, roses, lilies, and some Yoongi cannot identify—paint the ceiling in a beautiful soft-hued display. Yoongi’s elbow joint creaks as he brings his hand up to wipe his eyes, perhaps the flowers are just the leftover remnants of a dream he doesn’t remember having. When the fuzzy blackness of the pressure on his eyes fades, the flowers lying on the ceiling still fill his vision.
“Oh, you’ve awakened!” A bright melodic voice exclaims from nearby. This causes Yoongi’s to finally look away from the flowers and their light colored petals, in order to search for the owner of the voice. The sight standing before him just about sends him into shock.
A youthful figure stands, donning a silvery powder blue gown with tiny baby breaths scattering down the chiffon fabric. Lightly tanned skin, lips colored as if they’ve just bit into a ripe cherry, and soft golden curls fill Yoongi’s vision. The creature has a rosy hue of gold light radiating from its skin and a matching warm smile graces its face. The one thought immediately running through Yoongi’s mind is beautiful, simply beautiful.
The delightful creature chuckles slightly at the hunter’s surprised expression, the warm honey like sound filling Yoongi’s ears. He makes to sit up and get a closer look at the stranger in front of him. However, said stranger quickly runs towards him and placates him into lying down again. “Oh no, you musn’t move to quickly Yoongi. There’s a wound on your head I patched up and I’d hate for it to reopen.”
“H-how do you know my name?” Yoongi asks, his stuttering voice groggy and ruff from not being used in who knows how long. The idea that he’s been asleep far longer than one night seeming more and more reasonable to hunter. “Where am I? Who are you?”
“So many questions, just settle down for a second won’t you please? You had such a nasty fall last week, I had to nurse you back to health even though I’m supposed to avoid interacting with humans as much as possible.” The stranger gives Yoongi a pitiful smile, plump lips turning ever so slightly upwards.
“Last week?!” Yoongi’s voice rises in worry, his body rising too. The stranger makes a worried sound and gently pushes Yoongi’s shoulder down towards the bed. If he’s been here a week, wherever here is he does not know, then Namjoon and Hoseok be looking for him. He shakes his head trying to clear his mind from the millions of frightened thoughts running through it, “Wait that doesn't answer my question. How do you know who I am?”
The creature, a fairy Yoongi assumes based on the little mythological knowledge he has, makes its way to the bed and sits next to Yoongi. The fairy places a hand on Yoongi’s silk-cladden thigh. Wait these are not my clothes?
“Ah yes, I cleaned your clothes for you, they were in a rather pitiful state, Yoongi.” The fairy says in answer to Yoongi’s confused look at the silk gown on his body. “That’s how I know your name though, young hunter, you humans a fondness for placing your name upon your belongings.” The fae gestures towards a wooden chest against the wall opposite of the bed. Yoongi’s clothes, shoes, and hunting gear lay there. “I put you in some of my sleepwear, I know it is different than the trousers men of your kind usually wear. I hope you don’t mind.”
Yoongi sits completely baffled by the fairy’s kind words and mannerisms. All throughout his life he thought fae were mischievous creatures from fairy tales. However, here one one sits in front of him, so kind and beautiful seemingly both inside and out. Hesitatingly he speaks again, “No I don’t mind at all. However, I do mind you not telling me who you are or where and why I am here.”
“Oh forgive me, I’m not used to actually speaking with humans or anyone really. I usually wander the forest here alone so forgive my manners.” The fairy runs a hand through his golden locks, specks of glitter flying through the air as he does so. “My name is Jimin and I am a fairy you see. I live here in the forest you usually hunt in dear Yoongi. It is my duty to help the animals and plantlife heal here, and that includes you just as much as the doe. I let run away from you last week, you know?”
“ You let her get away?” Yoongi grunts bitterly.
“She was very sweet and kind to me that morning before you arrived, I’m very sorry I just could not help myself.” Jimin lays his chin in his palm and breathes out dreamily, “I know you need to hunt in order to have sustenance, but I just had to help that poor deer. I hope you can forgive me?”
Yoongi usually considers himself to be skilled at keeping grudges. He didn’t speak to Namjoon for a whole month after the younger man ate a basket of rolls Yoongi had very clearly stated was a gift for him to take to his mother. Yet here this fairy, Jimin, sits with big hopeful shiny eyes staring into his soul. Eyes he could never deny of anything, despite only having known the fae for mere minutes. With a reluctant sigh, Yoongi nods, “I forgive you Jimin. However, there are questions I still have for you.”
The fae stands at this and nods, “Yes, of course I can help you to the table by my kitchen and you can sit there and ask me as many questions as you want while I make lunch for us. I’m excited to finally share a meal with you, rather than spoon feeding you soup.”
Yoongi’s face flames at this, he’s not one that likes to have other’s care for him after all. He swallows his pride though and allows Jimin to help him out of the bed. The two walk over to the little wooden table sitting in the fairy’s kitchen, and Yoongi sits down as Jimin gets to work. He finds out as much information as possible from the fae as their food is being cooked. He learns that Jimin is a healer fairy, a very prestigious occupation to have for his kind. He lives alone in a designated area, taking care of the life residing there by himself. He only ever sees other fae when he travels to his home village for festivals. Despite the fairy’s reassurance that he doesn’t feel alone surrounded by all the life in the forest, Yoongi can’t help but feel for Jimin. It must be difficult to have to take care of a forest on all his own.
Yoongi also learns that he’s been resting in Jimin’s cottage for a little over a week now, and that he was welcome to stay as long as needed until he fully recovers. Yoongi bows his gratefully at Jimin’s offer, but tells him he’ll leave the day after tomorrow. The hunter does not want to burden the kind fairy anymore than he already had.
Jimin finishes crafting a pot of lavender stew, which he has to reassure Yoongi is edible for any living being. The two sit and eat together, and talk comfortably. Yoongi doesn’t know the last time he has been able to have a meal and just talk with another person this way. Namjoon and Hoseok usually are fast asleep when Yoongi arrives home, and the change of pace and company is very delightful for him.
He offers to sleep on the palette of cushions sitting in the living area of Jimin’s home after dinner. Jimin refuses and insists they both can just sleep on his bed like they have been doing for the past week. With a flushing face Yoongi reluctantly lies down beside Jimin’s glowing figure when it’s time for him to sleep. Jimin’s warm honey and jasmine scent serves to soothe his worries though, and eventually Yoongi finds himself falling asleep very soon after the fairy begins snoring softly. The last thing Yoongi thinks of before allowing the darkness of sleep to take him, is that Jimin resembles the fairy creature usually residing in his dreams.
Yoongi feels incredibly better the next day, thanks to the healing magic Jimin has been sprinkling on him everyday and night. He tells Jimin that tomorrow he should be well enough to make his leave.
“Oh really,” Jimin quietly comments to Yoongi’s announcement. He turns back to the human after rummaging through his closet and tosses a spare red gown covered in roses towards Yoongi. “Here you can borrow this today. I don’t have any pants for you to borrow, my kind do not wear them.”
Yoongi holds the silky fabric out in front of him, admiring the glittering glow the petals dotted along it. “No this will be fine thank you Jimin.” The blonde nods at Yoongi and pulls out another pink gown for himself. Jimin begins to slowly push the sleeves of his night robe of his shoulders, causing the fabric to fall to his feet. Yoongi lets out a audible gasp at the sight of the naked fairy, his slender figure bare for the hunter to see. His muscles are sculpted to perfection and the rosy golden glow radiates off every part of his skin. Jimin simply is too beautiful for Yoongi to take his eyes off of, but he knows for decency sake and his morals he must look away.
The human covers his eyes and sutters out, “Ji-jimin, I’m still here mind you.”
The fairy steps into his pink gown and ties it onto his body, “Yes you are, you’re just standing there. You really should be getting dressed.” Jimin comments seemingly unaware of the moral taboos regarding nudity.
“Y-yes but not with you there looking.” Yoongi hugs the rose gown tight to his body, refusing to change until the fairy leaves the bedroom.
Jimin chuckles and snaps his fingers, “Oh I’m sorry I forgot nudity is something humans are not comfortable with. It’s silly to me really, after all we’re born onto this Earth naked Yoongi.” The fairy closes the doors of his closet and goes to leave and let Yoongi change in privacy. Before he exits through the doorway though, he turns back towards Yoongi and winks before saying, “I already saw you naked, might I add, while changing you the first time.”He exits the room with a flourish of peonies and tule trailing behind him and a befuddled Yoongi standing shell shocked.
After getting dressed, alone, Yoongi follows Jimin into the living quarters. They both decide it would be nice for Yoongi to get some exercise that day, so Yoongi agrees to following the fairy around while he tends to the woods.
Yoongi follows behind the bright fairy as he tends to his daily duties. He watches closely, finding much enjoyment in the gentle yet exciting manner Jimin caters to the living creatures of the forest. They travel to the babbling brook first and Jimin checks the quality of water there, making sure nothing went awry in the night that might endanger the creatures living in the water.
After finding everything alright, and having a “conversation” with the fish living there (Yoongi wouldn’t really consider it a conversation since it consisted of Jimin speaking to the fish and not much else), Jimin moves onto checking the state of the plants. He explains to Yoongi that while he cannot check on every plant residing in the woods, there’s a way for him to locate places in need of tending and help. Yoongi follows Jimin curiously to a open clearing. There the fairy stands in the middle and squats down, “Please remain as quiet as possible Yoongi. I need to hear the earth.” Yoongi quickly nods and mimes sealing his mouth.
Jimin closes his eyes and brings both of his palms to the soil on the ground. The fairy begins humming and murmuring a chant under his breath. Yoongi cannot understand the words that leave the fairy’s mouth, they must be in fae language, but the sound of Jimin’s voice is just as beautiful and mystical as always. The chant continues for a solid minute before Jimin abruptly quiets. Yoongi holds his breath as he watches the fae’s hands tremble against the ground before stilling. Jimin slowly opens his eyes, a sad expression taking place of his usual smile. “It seems a few miles from here, villagers are tearing down trees. For what I don’t know, expansion of their town or perhaps a new house.” He stands and slinks towards Yoongi, “There’s really nothing for me to do about that though, and the Earth had nothing else to say to me today. We should head back to my home.”
Yoongi gazes at Jimin’s slumped form and sighs sadly, “I’m so sorry Jimin, are you sure there’s nothing we can do?”
Jimin turns towards Yoongi and offers a small smile, “No, there isn’t. Life is like this after all, we are born a part of this Earth and we die after serving our duty to it. Those trees are just meant to help humans in some way, I just can’t help but being sad when they die.” Jimin shakes his head, “I know it’s silly really, but I just can’t help myself.” A gold shiny liquid slips down Jimin’s cheeks, coming from his eyes. Tears , Yoongi thinks solemnly.
Yoongi comes closer to the fairy and wipes away a golden tear, “It isn’t silly Jimin. Not at all.” The hunter brings his other hand up and places it around the fairy’s shoulder. Yoongi can’t explain why he feels the need to comfort the crying fae. He usually struggles with expressions of emotions such as these, yet the need to console Jimin overwhelms his soul. He finds himself lifting his chin and bringing the fairy closer to his body. He let’s Jimin cry into his neck and rubs his back, “It’s beautiful, in fact. How much you care for the life you watch over. I admire it alot Jimin.”
Golden tears continue to cascade down the fae’s cheeks and the occasional sob wracks the fairy’s body for a few minutes. Yoongi’s soothing ministrations and warm presence console him though, and he his sobs soon quiet. He quickly peels himself away from Yoongi’s body, a pink flush dusting his cheeks. “I’m so sorry, I let my emotions get the best of me. I usually don’t have anyone to share my feelings with and I just let everything out to you.”
“You’re fine Jimin really. I’m honored you feel comfortable with me and trust me enough to share your feelings, even though we only have known each other for a week.” Jimin mumbles something under his breath the hunter doesn’t quite catch at this. Yoongi brushes it, “You said you were finished for the day right?”
The fae nods, wiping his cheeks from the stray remaining tears. A moist patch of golden glitter still resides on his cheeks, glowing in the afternoon sunlight. “Yes, I’m finished. Do you want to go home and eat with me now?”
Yoongi nods and holds out his hand for Jimin to take hold of, “I would love to.”
Jimin smiles sadly and grips tightly onto Yoongi’s hand, like it’s the last time he’ll have the opportunity to walk hand in hand with the hunter. The two walk to Jimin’s cottage together, the greenery and the late afternoon sun’s rays smiling down upon them.
Back at the cottage, Jimin’s mood seems to go south fast, changing completely from the usual bright and happy one Yoongi grew accustomed to the past two days. He sits quietly across from Yoongi as they eat their late afternoon meal, consisting of fruits cheese and a type of bread Yoongi has never seen in his life (he does not question it though, since it tastes magnificent and Jimin has only fed him edible food). Unlike last night, conversation does not flow easily. Yoongi tries to get Jimin to speak more about his life as a fairy; he asks him about fairy customs, his family back home, any and everything he can think of that will get the fae to talk. Yet his efforts are for no avail. Jimin only offers him short responses, elaborating on nothing before going back to shoveling food into his mouth.
Yoongi can only take so much of Jimin’s silent treatment before he breaks. “What’s wrong, Jimin?” He asks desperately, the stifling atmosphere suffocating him. Though he hasn’t known Jimin for long, he can’t help but mourn the loss of the fairy’s smile. He just wants the other to be happy with him again.
“Nothing is wrong.” Jimin does not look up from the table as he shoves the last bite of golden bread into his mouth. He gathers his dishes and stands.
Yoongi, bless his reflexes, quickly grabs ahold of his forearm, stopping Jimin from escaping back to the kitchen. “No, Jimin. Obviously something is wrong. You aren’t acting like your usual self.”
Jimin laughs bitterly at this, “How would you know what my usual self is Yoongi? You’ve only known me for a short time.”
“I’ve been here for over a week.”
“You were asleep until just yesterday!” Jimin screams. He shakes out of Yoongi’s grip, and turns to face the hunter dead on. “How, just how would you know what I’m usually like after such a short time?”
Yoongi gapes at the other and scratches his head confusedly, “I’m not quite sure, to be honest. I just feel like I do.”
Jimin’s brown eyes peer into Yoongi’s, the gold and silver flecks of glitter in them dancing, “Think about it Yoongi, just please think about it. Do I remind you of someone you’ve encountered before?”
The hunter sits back in his chair, dumbfounded by the fairy’s words. Yoongi has always felt strangely comfortable with Jimin ever since he woke up, like he’s encountered the fae before in his life. He wraps his mind, trying to place exactly where and how he could have met Jimin before.
After a full minute of Yoongi raking through his memories, Jimin sighs and shakes his head defeatedly. “You know Yoongi, just forget it. You’re leaving soon. I should have known you wouldn’t understand.”
Yoongi jolts at this, “Should’ve known? What is that supposed to mean?”
“Well you’re a human Yoongi, you just don’t understand-”
Yoongi stands, angry and confused as to why Jimin would let the fact that he’s a human keep him from talking to Yoongi. He takes his plate and storms towards Jimin’s kitchen where he drops them into the sink roughly. “You know, maybe this human should make his leave earlier than planned.”
“Yoongi, that isn’t how I meant it. It’s just hard to explain.” But the hunter ignores Jimin and goes to the fairy’s bedroom to retrieve his belongings.
He strips himself of Jimin’s gown, not minding if the other followed him into the room in his blind rage. Yoongi’s never felt such strong emotions towards anyone before, he doesn't know how to react to the way his heart saddened at Jimin’s words. It’s best he just leave now, get away from the fairy, and let his emotions return to normal. He dresses back into his clothes and picks up his hunting gear before heading back into the living room where a stunned Jimin remained.
He reaches the front door of Jimin’s cottage and turns towards the fairy, “Thank you for healing me. You did your job well, it’s time I make my leave.” With that he slams the cottage door shut and stalks off through the forest, not stopping until he reaches his cabin.
The only explanation for his disappearance he offers his housemates is that he had fallen ill and a kind stranger took care of him before he made his way home. Namjoon and Hoseok just nod and allow Yoongi to stalk off to the bedroom. He’ll explain more tomorrow, but for now Yoongi allows the cold darkness of sleep to take him away from his thoughts and worries.
Yoongi is back in the forest again, like he has been many times before. The greenery is just as green and vibrant as always. The sound of the creek babbling some ways away mixes with the chirping of the birds and the blowing of the wind as always. Everything is the same as always.
Except, that it is completely different this time.
While the misty fog lies thick in the air, and stray rays of sunshine slip through the branches of the trees. However, they shine down on something different this time. They shine down upon someone. Yoongi did not feel the eyes tracking his movements this time, because the owner of that gaze sits underneath the golden light.
There Jimin sits upon a fallen log, staring into the distance absentmindedly. He is wearing the same periwinkle gown he always wears in Yoongi’s dreams, the pastel array of flowers embedded in the fabric just as beautiful as always. The sunlight bounces off the fairy’s gold hair and combines with the rose gold glow of the fairy to take Yoongi’s breath away from him. Despite their previous argument, Yoongi feels that he has to, no needs to, call out to the fairy.
“Jimin!”
Jimin turns in the direction of Yoongi’s voice, his golden brown eyes are opened wide in shock as they lock on Yoongi’s figure.
It’s in that moment, when their eyes meet, that Yoongi realizes how he knows Jimin.
The first time they met wasn’t when Yoongi awoke to Jimin tending to him, no. Their first encounter has been in Yoongi’s dreams. The same recurring dream he’s been stricken with for the past few months, that is where he met Jimin. The eyes he felt following him through the forest, were Jimin’s. The quick flash of blue he always saw, was Jimin. Everything, had been Jimin.
He walks closer to the fairy and kneels down before. “Why didn’t you tell me? Are you dreaming this as well?”
Jimin nods at Yoongi, he’s wearing the same forlorn look he had on when Yoongi left him. “It’s hard for me to explain this to you Yoongi. But yes, I am dreaming just as you are. We are dreaming together now, like we have been for the past few months.”
Dreaming together? “But how? What does this mean Jimin?” Jimin scoots over on the log and pats the spot next to him for Yoongi to sit upon. He takes Yoongi’s hands into both of his and sighs out.
“Firstly I want to say I’m sorry for not explaining this to you in person. It is hard to explain to a human, for this is a occurence that rarely takes place between someone of my kind and yours.” Jimin’s short fingers rub soothingly against the back of Yoongi’s hand, calming the hunter slightly.
“It is okay, I forgive you. Just please tell me what is happening?”
Jimin chew on his bottom lip as he searches for the right words. “Okay, Yoongi please promise me that you will listen to me fully and remain calm.”
Yoongi reaches out and tucks a stray lock of golden hair behind Jimin’s ear, “Of course, I will.”
“Alright, well obviously as you now have realized, I’ve been in your dreams for the past few months. Ever since you relocated to this area of the forest, correct?” Jimin asks.
“Yes, it’s always the same dream. So vivid and bright it feels real until I awake in the morning.” Yoongi answers.
“Yes, and Yoongi, these dreams are typically the same except for minor differences correct? Perhaps you shoot the doe you were following, or like last week you missed completely.”
Yoongi furrows his brow, “Yes that’s right, what does that mean Jimin?”
“Well, whenever you and I sleep at the same time, we both dream of some version of our first meeting. In the dreams you always wake up after falling correct?”
Yoongi flushes at this, embarrassment at his clumsiness causing him to cough and rub his neck. “Yes, I always...somehow fall.”
Jimin grins at Yoongi’s bashfulness, “Yes, and the way we met was how I took care of your injuries after you fell.” Yoongi nods and looks to Jimin to continue. The fairy sighs and pats the hunter’s hand, “Well Yoongi, fae dream with their soulmate about their first meeting. This only happens when ever the two are in close enough vicinity of each other and when both parties are asleep.”
“Soulmates?” The word seems ridiculous coming out of Yoongi’s mouth. This is unbelievable for the hunter, something straight out of a fairy tale. He bitterly laughs at that internally, well he is a fairy after all.
“Yes, soulmates. I understand this might be hard for you to understand. It is a rare occurrence that a fae’s soulmate is a human. The relationships rarely work out anyways, that is why I wanted to hide this from you at first. I planned to nurse you to health and then send you on you merry way.” Jimin takes a deep breath, golden tears threatening to slip past his eyes. “However, the more I spent time with you, just being in your presence, the harder the task seemed. I tried very hard to ignore the yearning I felt to be with you, but it is a difficult task.”
“I felt it too.” Yoongi interrupts Jimin.
“What?”
“A yearning for you.” He clasps one of Jimin’s hands into his and brings it towards his heart. “I felt that yearning for you here. Leaving you was only possible because I was blind with anger, pain, and confusion.”
Jimin uses his free hand to wipe a stray tear that falls down his cheek. “I should have known better than to keep this from you. I thought I would be protecting you from hurting in the future if a relationship between us did not work out. It seems I only caused you more pain this way.”
“No, no, no Jimin. What you did was admirable. I should have been more understanding rather than running away from you.” Yoongi opens his arms and Jimin graciously falls into his warm embrace. “I am here now and I am definitely listening.”
The two sit together, basking in the feeling of warmth and completeness that comes from being together. Jimin’s breathing soon calms down and he looks up at Yoongi with his damp eyes. “One of us will wake soon, I can feel it.”
Yoongi’s heart drops at this, “What are we going to do Jimin, I...I don’t think I will be able to go back to the way things were before. If that is what you want though, I understand. I will try my hardest to respect your decision.”
“No Yoongi,” Jimin breathes out desperately, “I’ve realized that avoiding our relationship can only cause the both of us pain.” He peers down at their enclasped hands resting on his lap. Yoongi’s large pale hands complementing his golden petite ones beautiful. “If possible I would not mind starting a relationship with you. I don’t really know much about human courting rituals-”
Yoongi’s lips upon his quiet Jimin suddenly. The soft touch of their lips pressed upon each other soothes their hearts, and the scent of honey and jasmine overtakes Yoongi’s senses once again. He breaks the kiss to speak, “Of course my beautiful flower, I would love to start a relationship together. Perhaps in real life though, and not in our dreams.”
Jimin’s melodic chuckle lifts Yoongi’s spirits even further. He nods and places a kiss on the hunter’s nose, “Alright then, I think it’s time for us to wake up and make that happen then.”
They both close their eyes, only to reopen them in their respective beds miles apart. Yoongi darts up out of his bed, just as he is sure Jimin is doing in his own cottage, and goes to start a new journey in his life with his precious soulmate.
