Work Text:

Jeon Jeongguk was all about letting fate run its course. He always seemed to be the person that didn’t mind the situations that came to him, mainly because most of the time, he knew he could tackle the living hell out of it. He was never a quitter, people would say he’s stubborn but to Jeongguk, he believes he’s a fighter.

The words “giving up” weren’t in his vocabulary.

Damn, if only Jeongguk was the only person concerned in regards with his utter stubbornness. Nope, Park Jimin is more often than not the receiving end of Jeongguk’s never ending conquests. Not directly, never like that.

Jeongguk’s fighting spirit is admirable when he puts it on things like his academic and extracurricular work at Uni. And definitely not when he’s channeling it on every fucking thing that moves.

From an outsider’s perspective, Jeongguk may seem like a fuck boy. Too bad Jimin knows Jeongguk too well to even put him in that category.

“Hyung, how do I look?” Jeongguk is sporting one out of his infinite collection of white shirts, skin-tight jeans, and his signature Timberlands that he wears along with all of his outfits. Jeongguk always looks like a model without even trying, even when he keeps on repeating the same clothes.

Jimin gapes at him like a gold fish. Jeongguk scoffs at that.

“You look like you always do Guk, amazing…ly average.”

“Jiminie hyung! Stop playing around!”

Speak for yourself, kid. Jimin thinks to himself.

“Who are you trying to impress anyway?”

Jeongguk sighs loudly. What a brat.

“You don’t need to know, besides I’m late already! Please tell me if I look good enough.”

“Demanding aren’t we?” The elder of the two retorts. Picking at the hem of his jeans.

“Whatever, I’ll see ya around Hyung! Thanks for nothing!”
“Yah! You ungrateful brat! I let you in-“

Jeongguk doesn’t even let him finish as he closes the door.

I let you in my heart. Jimin’s mind supplies unhelpfully.

Min Yoongi is tired of dealing with his dongsaengs whining to him about their lives. On top of his never-ending coursework, he has become the designated agony aunt of the three misfits aka the youngest people in his band of seven. Why didn’t Namjoon or Seokjin get this role? They were definitely wiser than him when it came to dealing with emotions. Not that Yoongi was emotionally constipated, he’s actually quite sure of himself; he just has this brash way of letting the truth out (He doesn’t dance around, he just dives headfirst)

This is why he has earned himself a reputation of being mean to anyone who would initially get to know him. Later on, they would discover a big softie hidden in a not-so tough exterior. Yoongi would only admit his true self when he’s drunk.

Right now, he’s seated across Jeon Jeongguk rambling about his one true love who will never reciprocate his feelings. He has heard this same shit for so long that he almost tunes it out. They’re in a barely filled café across campus and they share the same break today. Yoongi brought Jeongguk to this café because he thought Guk would’ve calmed him down from the stress. But. Jeongguk rambling about shit is basically making him even more stressed.

Yoongi’s just exhausted, he hasn’t slept a wink in twenty four hours. He snaps, albeit he looks resigned.

“Guk, no offence but can you stop whining? I’m stressed enough. I don’t really have any advice to offer you because this is the nth time you’ve brought him up in conversation. Basically anything you see, remind you of one person and it makes you go into an annoying spiral. Stop.”

Yoongi takes a long sip on his Caramel Macchiato. Contrary to popular belief, the elder also likes his coffee sweet, Thank you very much.

“I’m sorry Hyung. I should’ve asked about you first before I went off.”

“Nah kid, I don’t really feel like talking about my day. I was hoping to hear about yours but seeing as it’s consumed by one person I’d rather not.”

“But-“
“Oh wait, I have advice. I won’t say the same shit. I just want you to stop accepting things and deviate ‘fate’ or whatever the fuck you kids call it these days.”

“Hyung, you aren’t that old please.” Jeongguk finishes his slice of cheesecake in two swift bites. The elder slightly smiles at that. He’s really fond of Jeongguk, he’s practically like the younger brother he never had.

For someone who’s so stubborn, Jeon Jeongguk can’t seem to handle the hold that the love of his life has on him. No, it’s not the man across him. Even when Jeongguk doesn’t want to, his mind wanders to that beautiful man.

“You’re thinking about him. You’re impossible Guk.” Yoongi may be sighing but the fond look on his features totally betrays it.

“You love me Hyung.”

“Yeah, sure kid.”

They both sit across each other in comfortable silence as they drink their coffees.

“Yoongi hyung I loooove you baby.” Taehyung is drunk as hell, clinging on to Yoongi’s arms with his dear life. The elder wants to let go of Tae’s grip because not only does he feel slightly uncomfortable, he can feel the daggers thrown on their direction.

“Let me go Tae.” Yoongi basically pries Tae’s hands off of his arms but the position is awkward, and he can’t stand this any longer.

“No baby hold me tight and ‘ver let goo. I love J-“ Yoongi clamps his left hand on Taehyung’s mouth and the latter kitten licks his palm. Yoongi pushes Taehyung to the couch and wipes at his hands.

“Gross!” He’s honestly relieved that Taehyung didn’t throw up on his hand, Yoongi would’ve never let him live it down.

Taehyung seems unfazed and moves on to his next target, Kim Namjoon. The latter gives him the stink eye. Yoongi just shrugs. Good riddance.

Jimin approaches him hesitantly.
Jimin is a loud and vibrant person, but when he’s drunk he suddenly becomes this quiet force who spouts the wisest shit. Yoongi isn’t sure if Park Jimin is drunk or if something went wrong.

“Hyung, I think you should stop invalidating other people’s feels, you know?”

Yoongi sees through Park Jimin, even though the question seems too straightforward, Yoongi knows exactly what he means.

“I know, Jiminie.”

At that, Jimin gives him his signature eye smile.

“Good hyung. Be honest with what you feel, it will work out, I promise.”

“You don’t know that but thanks for the vote of confidence.”

Before Jimin could reply back, Taehyung is suddenly all over their space and clinging to Jimin like a monkey at loose.

“I swear he becomes a full-time koala when he’s drunk, it’s endearing and annoying.” Jimin still tries to be sweet despite the chokehold he’s currently suffering in.

“Mostly the latter though.”

“Hey, I’m here baby stop hurting me!”

“Why does he keep calling me baby?”

“He’s been calling everyone baby, don’t worry.”

As if on cue, Taehyung throws up on the spot.

Kim Taehyung is an eccentric person, to put it lightly. Even though he’s outspoken and loud, the man can become moody and unpredictable in a split second. He is actually an enigma. Even his own friends have a difficult time figuring him out.

He is now seated at a park bench and he has no idea why he’s there except for the fact that his hyung is approaching him at this moment with two cups of coffee on his hands.

“I didn’t fucking sign up for this.”

“I’m sorry Hyung, you could’ve been at home snoozing around already and yet you’re here with me because you won a game of rock, paper, and scissors.”

Yoongi sits besides Taehyung and hands him the paper cup of cheap but warm coffee with his left hand. Taehyung sighs happily.

“What’s got you’re your spirits up? You were brooding earlier.”

“Ooooh Yoongi-hyung, I just really appreciate and love you so much.”

“Tell that to J-“ Taehyung clamps the elder’s mouth with his free hand. Yoongi nearly spills the coffee on his hand.

“Yah! You don’t need to get so aggressive! Urgh” Yoongi wipes his mouth with a handkerchief and pockets it.

“I’m sorry hyung, I’m just so tired y’know?”

At that, Taehyung looks up at the city night sky, not waiting for his hyung’s reply knowing very well that the elder is mostly reserved and would much rather listen to him than offer some piece of advice. In the rare instance that Yoongi gives out advice, it always seems right. Perfect. Taehyung lets Yoongi offer his advice at his own pace. Taehyung also observes how blue and bright the night sky is, considering that it’s dawn. It reminds him of one of his favorite paintings, Van Gogh’s Starry Night. He absolutely loves that piece of art, he even has it as his laptop wallpaper and phone case.

Yoongi and Taehyung are blanketed in a comfortable silence. Taehyung knows that he’s extroverted and yet, he savors moments like this. He would consider the two an unlikely pair to get along with, considering that the only similarity they have with each other is that they both come from Daegu. Other than that, they’re two completely different people, polar opposites, and somehow they get along really well. They understand each other, even in the silence.

And just like that, the silence was broken by a very loud ringtone.

The Mario Brothers theme song in 8-bit mocks the silence.

“I would’ve changed this a long time ago if I knew how.” Yoongi quips and picks up the call.

“Yoongi! Where are you? It’s the ass crack of dawn!!! You better not be pulling an all-nighter at your studio again!!! I swear to God, didn’t you even consider to tell me?”

“Chill hyung, I was just out with the misfits,” Taehyung gasps mockingly at that. “I’m now with misfit #2.” Yoongi replies coolly.

“Hey I’m right here!!!” Taehyung practically screams.

“Ah, Kim Taehyung. I thought for a second you were with,” Yoongi can hear the mirth in his voice.

“Let me stop you right there.”

“Fine, say hello to Taehyung for me. Please take care of him and next time, tell me if you’re going to be out this late?”

“Yes dad.”

“Shut up. Goodnight.”

“Sleep well hyung and sorry.”

“Wait, you said you were with the misfits? Where are the others then?”

Yoongi sighs loudly.

“He didn’t even look at me tonight.” Jeongguk sniffles loudly, like actually fucking sniffles. Jimin almost forgets how much of a big baby Guk was whenever he was drunk. He’s now pouting, and it takes all of Jimin’s energy to not coo at the sight.

He feels bad that he’s enjoying this time with Jeongguk, even though he’s crying like a baby. Both of them we’re left at the noraebang after they played a short game of rock, paper, and scissors. Whoever won would be taking care of piss drunk Kim Taehyung. Namjoon left prior to this so it was only the four of them left.

Jimin lost twice in a row and it put a small dent on his pride.

It was up to Jeongguk and Yoongi. The younger of the two lost to Yoongi’s rock.

Taehyung suddenly slams his hands on the table. All of them reel in shock, it’s funny how Jeongguk almost stumbles down on the couch.

“That’s settled! C’mon baby let’s go on a date!” Taehyung grabs Yoongi’s arm and storms out of the room, leaving his belongings with them. Yoongi was sober enough to bring his messenger bag.

Jimin giggles at that. He looks at Jeongguk and realizes that the younger looks like he’s on the verge of tears.

“Why are you so pathetic?” Jeongguk muses quietly to himself but Jimin hears every word.

“Come here.” Jimin envelops Jeongguk in a strong bear hug and that’s when he starts sobbing.

“So let me get this straight, Jeongguk is in love with Taehyung but Jimin is in love with Jeongguk? This is wild.” Seokjin takes an obnoxiously loud sip on his earl grey tea. Instead of sleeping or working on his mock production audition, the man is preoccupied catching up on his friends’ latest drama.

Let it be known that Kim Seokjin loves his tea warm and fresh.

“Who does Taehyung like then?”

“Jung Hoseok. Dance major.”

“You mean Hobi???”

“Yep” he pops the p.

“Shit. I’m really concerned.”

“Why don’t you talk to them? I don’t know I’m getting really exhausted just hearing about their love lives.”

“I don’t know about that Yoongi, I don’t want to meddle.”

“You, Kim Seokjin? Not wanting to meddle? In what universe?” Yoongi snorts obnoxiously to prove a point.

Seokjin takes a gentle swat at the back of the younger’s head.

“It’s Hyung for you, I meant that, I just don’t know how to deal with their situation, it’s their business and im honestly stressed with other stuff.”

“God why are we like their parents?”

Seokjin and Yoongi sigh loudly. They’ve been doing that a lot lately.

“I wish Namjoon was here.”

“Me too”

Kim Namjoon is a walking, breathing paradox. He’s the smartest yet dumbest person you’ll ever meet. He’s insanely profound yet mundane. Exceptionally talented at music and art but can’t draw or play an instrument to save his life. Despite having so many contradictions, he remains to be one of the most dependable, kind-hearted, and real people you’ll ever meet.

However, Namjoon himself likes to dwell on his flaws. He has a difficult time embracing them. It doesn’t stop him from progressing though. The greatest and longest running battle he has is within.

Some days, it goes well. Today is one of these days.

“I missed you Namjoon.” His hyung hugs him so tight, but he doesn’t feel suffocated, he feels protected. Like this hug will stop all the negative thoughts that plague him on a daily basis.

Being wrapped in Seokjin-hyung’s arms once again feels like a homecoming. It’s amazing how Seokjin makes Namjoon at ease. He can’t even make himself feel at ease these days.

Jimin is fucking tired. He didn’t even do anything productive today. He’s moping over fucking “nothing” and it’s driving him nuts. He just laid in his bed the whole day, mindlessly scrolling on his phone and reading random Astronomy articles. The stars and space have always fascinated him. Right now though, he’d prefer to just skim through the technicalities of the universe. Not even words about one of his most favorite subjects is keeping him engaged. He feels like he’s not himself. He hasn’t been himself in a long time. Maybe he never has.

Just as he was nearing the end of the 3243324928th article he has read on Stargazing, his phone rings and the caller ID “Yoongi-hyung” flashes on the screen. A part of him wants to ignore it but this is Yoongi, he just can’t.

He picks up at the third ring.
