Work Text:
Things have changed so much in so little time and everything you thought to be true turned out to be a lie.
Your life is falling apart.
All thanks to that man.
You can't blame him. You don't want to. But it's hard. It's hard to not be able to blame anyone. That's why you choose to blame yourself.
Life can't always be simple. Sometimes, pain strucks hard and there's no way you can be ready for it.
You've been expecting it, though. You knew for long seven years that something was wrong, and even if there was no way that you could know things would end up like this, you still feel guilty for not having prevented it. If you had suspected your brother, Mr. Wright wouldn't have lost his badge, and if you had kept a closer eye to Daryan, he wouldn't be behind bars accused of murder. It was all because of your ignorance, it was you who caused this.
Now you're alone with your guilt.
And with that man.
He's not even your friend. You're acquitances, you're rivals ーyou don't really mind that he considers you one because you know he doesn't hold a serious grudge against you.ー, but you work well together. You first got interested in him when you heard that he had been the one that put your big brother in prison, but even after such bad first impression, you've grown warm to him. You've been together since the beginning, and he has never left your side. That man has no idea how much he means to you, for both good... and bad.
No matter how much you appreciate him, there's one solid fact that you can't deny: He has taken everything away from you. The only reason why that happened is because you were living in a lie; the actions of your loved ones have no excuse and you feel deeply disgusted by them, but... You can't help it. You can't help but to miss them, to feel frustrated. It hurts to know you have lost your brother and best friend.
It still hurts.
Your chest hurts.
And you can't breathe.
Why were you lied to? Why did they do such things? Why couldn't things end in another way? Why did this happen? Why?
Why?
You can't breathe.
You can't see.
Someone. Anyone.
Help.
...
And then there he is.
The man.
To break your character like this is something you deeply despise. Nobody likes to be seen in such a state, broken and hurt, and especially you don't wish to be caught like this. People think you're always so calm and collected; what would they say if they knew Klavier Gavin was this damaged? What would they say if they saw his eyes red from crying, his body shaking from fear and not being able to breathe properly?
The man is calling you.
He is talking and you refuse to answer.
"P-Prosecutor Gavin...?"
Don't answer.
"What's wrong...?"
Can't answer.
"Klavier!"
You feel his grip on your arms, but you can't actually see him. Your eyes are too blurry with tears, so all you see is a silhouette.
You can't keep hiding it anymore.
You are shaking, whimpering and your cheeks feel wet. You probably look ugly and stupid and that's why you're trying to hide your face with your long fingers. You're ashamed, oh, so ashamed of being seen this vulnerable. If your mind were clear enough, you'd be able to say something, anything, explain what's happening, but you can't even do that.
You can't. It's... too much.
"It's ok..."
He doesn't sound too confident on himself. He's as confused as you, yet there he is, embracing you, caressing your back slowly.
Even if he doesn't know what's truly going on, he still cares. Apollo doesn't pay attention to how miserable and pitiful you look, he doesn't force you to talk about your problems. He's a genuine good man who actually cares about other people's feelings, someone who is willing to lend you his hand even if he has no idea what's going through your mind.
You hug him back. Apollo only whispers comfort words and it's the first time you've ever heard his voice being this soft. It feels so nice, he has such a beautiful voice...You feel safe. The way his chest goes up and down, slowly breathing, helps you calm your soul. Breathing has become easier for you, and you focus on shedding tears. You're letting it all out, letting your pain drip down your eyes as tears and escape in the shape of whimpers from your mouth. Meanwhile, the lawyer is just there, muttering words of encouragement, offering you his warmth.
When you finally calm down and wipe away your tears, he gets away for a few seconds to stare at your face. When you feel confident enough, you stare at the other man right in the eye, a sad smile appearing on your face.
"Thank you, Apollo."
He smiles back nervously. He seems happy of being helpful.
"No need to thank me."
And with that, you actually think everything will be fine.
Even if you're still hurt, there's always time for recovery. People who were once part of your life weren't as honest as you thought they were. Their actions were wrong, and being exposed to the truth hurt more than he could imagine, but the truth was also the only thing that would help you get out of the dark hole you have been drowing for seven years. Apollo is nothing but a saviour. He's the man that gave you the chance of starting again with a clear conscience, the man who gave you an opportunity to choose a new path, one that would lead you to happiness.
Things will be fine. You're sure of it.
They will be because Apollo gave you another chance, one that will make you rise again.
The world is waiting, the door is open... and all thanks to Apollo Justice.
