Should have known

Summary:

Izuku should have known not reporting what he saw on the day of the break in would bite him in the butt

Notes:

What is up dudes. Sorry for not updating on Monday. I was planning on working on this after I came home from work, but I was more exhausted then I thought I would be. This will be my first muli-chapter story so bare with me. Once again, I hope y'all enjoy!

Chapter Text

Izuku had a bad feeling. But Izuku wasn’t too terribly worried. He could count the number of times he had been truly scared or worried on his hand. Still he should have been more worried looking back since that number had increased only weeks ago when Aizawa has spontaneously used his quirk on Izuku. Still, against what might have been for the best, Izuku didn’t worry.

At the moment Izuku was waiting for the bus for their field trip to arrive like the rest of classmates. Yaoyorozu was trying her best to get the class settled, while Kirishima was doing the exact opposite and was pumping the class up with usual gung-ho enthusiasm. Izuku was glad the class had at least some sense when they voted Yaoyorozu as class representative instead of the overly excited puppy that Kirishima could be likened to. Although if the vote had been taken even a few days later it was almost assured that Kirishima would have won. The only ones who didn’t have a 90-100% Favorability for Kirishima were Kacchan, Het-Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Izuku himself.

As soon as the bus came Izuku tried to make his way to the back of the bus where the other students seemed to avoid. Unfortunately Kirishima pulled him down into a seat in the middle of the bus. Izuku had no polite way to deny or the avoid the hand that grabbed him, so he resigned himself to his fate. He even had to resign himself to Kirishima hauling an arm over his shoulders. Izuku was trying to be nice after all. However, just because he was going to be nice and sit with his classmates doesn't mean he was going to talk. Being in such close quarters with the others meant he was being bombarded with their thoughts at Kacchan levels of noise. Still the world hated Izuku, something that was proven by the fact that Izuku had a billion quirks, so Asui turned over to talk to him about how his “quirk” was quite similar to All Mights. Greeeeat. Izuku in another life might have been flustered or delighted at the thought of such a compliment, but Izuku knew better. When Kacchan had needed a hero, even the “Number One Hero” hadn’t saved him. Izuku had been forced into a position where he had no choice but to intervene and to come to a life altering realization. Perhaps in that other life Izuku respected and worshiped the All Might in that world, but this Izuku had no such thoughts. Moreover- ah Izuku realized that brain processing mind alteration was taking effect and he should say something. Still Izuku didn’t know what exactly he should say. Maybe he could-

“Hey Tsu! You don’t gotta think of it like that. I bet Midoriya just trained his quirk SUPER hard. Any of our quirks can be as amazing as All Mights if we each give it out 110%!”

Ah maybe the gungho Kirishima wasn’t too bad. If he saved Izuku from annoying situations like this one. True some of his light punches mimicked All Mights, but that didn’t mean their quirks were the same.

“My hardening's strong against others, but that doesn't mean I can just stop trying. I must work to improve myself every day! Midoriya you and I should work out to reach our 110%!”

And there you go Kirishima. You had some potential, but now. Woosh. Gone to the wind. Izuku instead decided to change the focus onto Kirishima. Izuku was getting too much attention. Sure Izuku was planning on being a hero influential enough to have an impact, but he was still used to life of a wallflower. So hush. Baby steps people.

“Your quirk is good without the training… It’s like a pro’s.”

The last part was a quick add on. Nothing gets an idiot distracted like compliments. And it’s not like it’s not true. He shares similar attributes with heroes like Crimson Riot. A̶ ̶f̶a̶c̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶h̶e̶ ̶o̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶k̶n̶e̶w̶ ̶b̶e̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶h̶e̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶d̶ ̶K̶i̶r̶i̶s̶h̶i̶m̶a̶'̶s̶ ̶m̶i̶n̶d̶. Anyway the conversation was firmly off Izuku now. Good. But, of course, the conversation just had to turn to Kacchan and Todoroki about how their quirks were flashy and powerful. The last thing either of those two boys needed was any more reason to inflate their egos. If Izuku had thought Kacchan had an ego the size of Texas, then Todoroki had an ego the size of Pangea. The boy thought about himself almost as much as Tokoyami thought about himself. The only reason Izuki said this was Todoroki thought about his father more than himself.

“My life has been forced into easy mode. This reason for this is my father and my quirk.”

“I am the perfect product of quirk marriage and with my power I shall surpass All Might and my Father.”

“I am not only powerful, my intelligence is un-matched in this class of nitwits. None of them are within my league.”

God those thoughts were so grating after a while. At least Tokoyami’s were amusing, if not a little sad, to listen to. Anyway, that boy didn’t need more of an ego. The words his classmates were saying were only further validating his imagined superiority, if his thoughts were anything to go on.

And poor Kacchan. His would be bully was being teased by the rest of class. Izuku, d̶e̶s̶p̶i̶t̶e̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶ ̶s̶o̶f̶t̶ ̶s̶p̶o̶t̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶K̶a̶c̶c̶h̶a̶n̶, was almost glad to see Kacchan get his comeuppance.

“Everyone already knows his personality is crap steeped in sewage.” Okay that was a little harsh. That one came from the weird boy Kaminari. Kaminari was weird by Izuku’s standards since whenever he looked a Izuku he would chant something like, “Don’t think about it” over and over again. Weird. Still that was kinda harsh. Especially since the weird boy knew Kacchan had been attacked by a sewage monster months before. Izuku was glad Aizawa’s thoughts were telling him they would be arriving soon. Even if the man told the class about it a few minutes later. Aizawa really was Izuku’s favorite teacher.

Finally reaching the USJ building Izuku could sense that the hero Thirteen was waiting outside of the building for them. They seemed to be going over what they wanted to say to the class. They wanted something that would be “impactful, informational, and cool”. As far as Izuku could tell. Izuku found Thirteen to be one of the better heroes that were currently licensed and active in duty. After the whole All Might revelation he went through, he had compiled a list of what he thought were “good, bad, and neutral” heroes. Heroes like Aizawa and Thirteen were the kind of heroes who would step in to save a group or even one person in the face of great danger, without a moment of hesitance. Izuku knew which heroes were truly thinking about the welfare of people, because well, Izuku could read minds. Izuku didn’t know how but he always managed to walk through areas that were being attacked by villians and saved by heroes a lot. Must have been his bad luck. Anyway, at the time that those fights had taken place, Izuku hadn’t paid much attention to the heroes or the villains. Sure he sometimes absent mindedly noted how some of their thoughts were less than pure, Mt. Lady, but he didn’t really work to compile a list and reach back through his memories till All Might.

Ah Izuku should have been paying attention. They were inside the building and Thirteen was giving their speech. “Please do not forget that there are quirks that can easily kill with one wrong step”.

See. Stuff like that shows how Thirteen was a good hero. Knowing their limits and what the drawbacks as well as the advantages their quirk can provide. Izuku knows just how dangerous his quirk was. When he was younger he would wake up to find he had destroyed his entire apartment complex in his sleep. Izuku could do a lot of harm without even being aware he was hurting anyone. He certainly didn’t want that to happen. A quick reversal of time on the building helped the situation, but Izuku didn’t want to keep doing so.

Izuku thought he should at least pay more attention to Thirteen and their speech so Izuku tried his best to focus. But now that he wasn’t focusing on his own thoughts or the thoughts of his classmates, the sense of foreboding was coming back and Izuku wished that his Precognition quirk just take effect.

Oh, there it goes. Now Izuku could finally see what was going to go wrong… Shit. Goddammit. Fucking goddamn shit. Izuku could have pulled a Kacchan combined any number of expletives to express how he was feeling right now. Villians. Villains were going to come and hijack the USJ. Worst yet is the fact that the villain that would bring the rest of the villains into the area was the same one who was in the staff room during the break in. Izuku knew he should have told. This is what he gets for being so indecisive.

When Izuku made it out of the Precognition, he called out to Aizawa. However when Aizawa turned to look at Izuku, slightly worried since the ever calm Izuku sounded panicked, and was about to question him the lights started to go out. Izuku cursed himself. He was too late. However this didn’t mean he was gonna lay down and take it. He was too late to warn, but not too late to fight back. As the villains continued to file out in droves from the swirling mist, Izuku, Aizawa, and Thirteen prepared themselves for the very real battle ahead of them.
