Summary:

Inko worked hard to raise her son, and now that he can take care of himself, she has time to do what she couldn't in the last 15 years. But getting out of the routine can bring you serious problems.

Notes:

All chapter names are songs, including the name of the fanfic (Changes, David Bowie).
I tried to divide the first chapter in 3 parts. The first one is what happened with Inko and Izuku. The second one is Inko's perspective about met Hisashi again. The third one is Toshinori's perspective about his reaction.
This is my first fic ever, so if it's bad, tell me. And if there is any English errors, I apologize. I'm Brazilian and my English is not the best, but I'm trying to improve it.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: He's Just an Old Love Turned Memory

Chapter Text

Inko Midoriya, a divorced woman who faced her day by day with her son Izuku Midoriya. Now that her son is realizing his dreams studying and living in the dorms of UA, she spend her days alone. She starts working at 10 a.m and leaves work at 6 p.m. She used to arrive home and talk to her son, but now he is not living there anymore. Pehaps she doesn't have her son there to talk, and most of the times when she tries to call him, he is busy studying or training, she is happy for him. She wants him to be succesful in his life, and mainly she wants him to be happy. It bothers her to be without her son, but she tries to focus on supporting him. After Hisashi got out of their lifes, Inko stopped taking care of herself and focused on raising her child. It shoud be too bad for a child to not have a father.

Four years passed, and Izuku was a child who dreamed of being a hero. He used to watch a video of All Might in his debut. All Might was his favorite pro hero. He had a lot of his merch in his bedroom. Posters, clothes, toys, everything. He wanted to be like him. The problem was he was a quirkless child. It was heart-breaking for him and his mom. Inko couldn't imagine how much he was suffering that time. Without a dad and without a quirk. Inko was aways taking care of him. She was aways worried of her son being sad about it. But he never gave up. He was aways studying the heroes, and he had a lot of notebook with analyzes of pro heroes and things that Inko had not imagined.

Years passed and both had no friends. Inko stopped going out with her friends and from time to time, she was losing them. Izuku didn't have a quirk, so he was rejected by many of his classmates. They had each other to talk, and that was enouth for Inko, but she knew It wasn't good for her son.

Now that her son is not there anymore, she had no one to talk. She knew Izuku was making friends in UA, and she was happy. She was happy he wasn't like his mother. He was brave and kind. She was so proud of him. But she was tottaly alone, and bothered her a little. She aways lived the same routine, but now that became boring to her. She realized she wanted to change that. Wanted to make friends, talk to people, date.

It was 6 p.m on a Friday and Inko was leaving her work. She was passing thoug the same way she pass everyday to arrive home. When she was near her apartment, she saw an arrow pointing to a bar. She looked at the bar, which had a retro look, and could hear a song coming from inside. It was a song she knew, that she used to hear a lot when she was a teenager. It was a-ha's Take On Me. A nostalgic wave passed through her body, and she could remember the good times where compromises and worries didn't haunt her every single day. It seemed to be a cool bar to go after a stressful week, but it was not a place for a 41-year-old mother to go on a Friday night. But a drink would do well, wouldn't it? She had not been drinking in a while. And that song ... That song was calling her.

It was decided, she would enter the bar, even if it was to take only a glass of beer, she would enter. After all, she deserved it. Entering the place, she saw several vinyls she knew and got in her youth, and the inside looked as retro as the outside. She looked around to see if there was any vacant table, avoiding looking at people's faces. Luckily, there was a vacant table away from most people. On the way there, Inko didn't notice that she had just passed the pro heroes / teachers of Izuku. She only noticed when one of them screamed. "HEY MIDORIYA-SAN!!" she knew that voice, it was the same voice she heard every Saturday night on the radio because of her son. It was the pro hero Present Mic greeting her. She glanced toward him and his desk, which was Eraserhead and All Might. The two nodded without scandal as Present Mic. Inko, somewhat surprised to have been recognized by Eraserhead and Present Mic, but not by All Might. He had already made a visit at her house to talk about her son. She waved at them with a dull smile. She turned to the place where she would sit and hurried to get there as quickly as possible.

Sitting at her table, she picked up the menu to take a look. There was a wide variety of burgers and drinks, and Inko had no idea what to order. She was, looking carefully at all the options she had of choice, and without realizing it, a man of tall stature, with curly black hair and freckles on his face, sat down in her front and waited patiently for her attention turns to him.

Inko, after a few minutes, realizes that she wasn't alone. She slowly lowered the menu to see who was in front of her. Her heart began to accelerate, her eyes widened and all of her breath gone. Maybe he had some white hair, a new cut and a little more weight, but he was still the same man who had left her 15 years ago. "Inko Midoriya, how long!"

Hisashi was the last man she wanted to see at that moment, not really at that moment, but for the rest of her life. She had no reaction but to let her tears flow. It was involuntary, and although she didn't omit any sound, inside she was screaming. "Aren't you going to say anything?" He asked, smiling.

"What are you doing here?" She asked.

"What are you doing here? This is my bar." Inko knew he was not lying, after all, he was a great businessman in a chain of bars. She grabbed her purse and stood up to leave. Hisashi held her hand, "We need to talk about Izuku, our son."

"Our son ?!" Inko said in a louder voice, and the people around her could hear, but none of them mattered. "You've been away for his entire life and now you are saying he's our son ?! What the fuck?!" She used to avoid swearing, but she was very angry. Now everyone was looking at her, and an uncomfortable silence prevailed. She looked at them all, and felt her cheeks burn. Tears continued to stream down her face. She covered her face with her hands and left the bar.

"Was that Midoriya-San?" Eraserhead asked.

"Yes, and she seems to be crying," Present Mic replied. "Like Mother like son". They both laughed, "We should see what happened."

"Yeah, but it seems to be personal, let's not get in the way." The two had been dating for a few months, and Toshinori saw no reason to be there.

"I'll see what happened to her." Toshinori replied, getting up and taking his blazer. At first, it was just an excuse to get out of there. Although he did not mind staying with them, it was a day that he wanted to be alone. His scar ached and he just wanted to stay in the comfort of his house. But it was Inko Midoriya's they were talking about. Izuku's mother, the heir of One For All. If anything happens to her, it could affect the boy, and Toshinori didn't want to see that happen.

Leaving the bar, Inko was already a few feet away from there, so Toshinori had to make a little effort to reach her. "Good evening Midoriya-san, are yo-" he stopped talking when he saw that Midoriya-San was still crying, and his face was redder than he thought it would be. Meanwhile, she tried to wipe the tears and smile.

"Good evening, Yagi-San." He didn't know what to say or what to do. He tried to think of something to ask without looking like a complete idiot who was only curious about what happened.

"Midoriya-San, I saw what happened inside the bar, are you okay?"

"P-Please don't worry, I'm fine, that was just ...", she looked down, "awful." Toshinori was desperate. He, despite being the number one hero, didn't know how to deal with people's emotions.

"If you don't mind, can I walk you home?" Midoriya-San looked at Toshinori's face, which had an expression of concern, and shook her head, saying yes. Then he placed his blazer on her. "It's cold."

Toshinori just left her side only when she was at the door of her apartment, and until then, they didn't say anything. The silence was a bit uncomfortable, but he preferred to remain silent so he wouldn't make the woman uncomfortable.

When they were already at the door of her apartment, he asked:

"Are you sure you're okay? Do you want to talk about what happened?"

"If you don't mind, I'd rather be alone. I can deal with it..." she said, trying her best to smile, giving the blazer back. "Good evening, Yagi-San."

"Ah- Call me Toshinori"

"Okay, Toshinori," she said, closing the door.

Toshinori could see Midoriya-San's tears dripping down her face as she tried to smile. He thought about what she said at the bar, and the only person he could imagine she was talking to was her ex-husband. He knew she was divorced because young Midoriya had already commented of being worried about her mother for being alone. He was going to get a cab to go home when he found his co-workers coming out of the bar.

"Come on Mic! You just drank 2 shots," EraserHead said, with Present Mic leaning on him.

"It was 2 shots of my life!" Present Mic said, turning to Toshinori. "HEY, HEY, HEY! LOOK WHO'S BACK!"

"Can you help me here, Yagi? This dead weight is drunk," he rushed to help Present Mic get into the taxi. "Are you coming?"

"No, I'll get the next one, thank you." Toshinori said good-bye as the taxi was leaving, and Eraserhead stared at him for a moment.

"He's going to get involved in Midoriya-San's problems, isn't he?" Present Mic asked.

"Probably" Eraserhead replied.

"Should we stop him?"

"Probably."
