Hands locked. Fingers intertwined. The two of you walked along, Kira leading you towards the sea. It was something you did every now and then. The water was beautiful at night with the moon reflecting off of it. And it was peaceful. Nice. Away from the many worries plaguing your minds. Just the two of you and the amazing scenery.
Tonight it was certainly needed. On top of your own stressful issues, you were well aware Kira was hiding something from you. You trusted him of course, and knew without a doubt if he wasn’t telling you it was for your own benefit. That didn’t change the fact you took notice of how much time him and Josefumi were spending together. You weren’t an idiot, and had came to the conclusion it most likely had something to do with Holy, who might as well be your mother-in-law at this point (Hell, in past days she had even joked herself to be such). Her condition was serious, and you worried for her. You were also fully aware of how Kira felt about the situation. So it would come as no surprise if whatever they were doing did have to do with her. But you wouldn’t pry. If Kira wished to tell you, then he could do so on his own terms.
For now, there wasn’t much of a reason to dwell on it. You tossed the thought from your mind and continued on as Kira brought you to the usual place you sat, allowing you to take a seat and then proceeding to place himself down next to you. His soft hand gently squeezed yours, reminding you that your hands were still interlocked. You glanced over at him, a smile on your face. “It’s breathtaking as always,” You remarked.
“Of course it is.”
It wasn’t meant to be rude. Just Kira’s usual manner of speaking. He wasn’t exactly the sweetest or most romantic person. At least not outwardly. It was truly the little gestures that showed how much he cared. Such as bringing you out to this place with him every time he went. Or the way his thumb slowly caressed your hand as it was held within his. You simply hummed in response, to both his words and actions, and leaned against his shoulder. Attention back on the view of the sea.
The moon was full and high in the sky tonight, giving the perfect imagery. It reflected so beautifully off the water, so much so it made it appear as if the sea had sparkling lights within it. As a man who worked within the ocean so often, it was unsurprising he knew of this phenomenon. You just never quite know how amazing it is yourself until you experience it. And really you couldn’t thank Kira more for showing you.
The both of you sat in silence, staring out into the night. It was hard to predict how long this would go on. It was a peaceful time, and from your point of view, romantic as well. Not everyone would believe so, but to you this was a wonderful date night. One you always looked forward to upon being told about it. Wrapped up in your thoughts you missed Kira’s glimpse at you, taking in your appearance within the moonlight. It was something he actually always did during these times, but you never noticed as your mind would always be focused elsewhere.
You were beautiful to him, much like how the moon reflected off the water or even how he viewed his own hands. Even if he didn’t outright say it. He wouldn’t be sure how to really, and besides, he believed he made it clear how he felt. Maybe. It was hard to tell at times given how he acted. But he was well aware you understood the meaning behind the actions he took. One of the many reasons why he cared for you so much.
A kiss was placed on Kira’s cheek as you were the one who ended up breaking the process of you both getting lost in your own thoughts. He was slightly taken aback, even if not completely evident on his face. You could tell though, and a small giggle escaped your lips. “It’s getting later than it already is, when do you think we should head back?,” You questioned, unsure if he had important business to take of or not.
The truth was he did. Goals he was reaching towards and needed to plan out the next actions to take going forward. He needed to discuss things with Josefumi. There was so much that needed to be done, and only so much time given his mother’s state. But he was also appreciating the time he had to spend with you. It eased his mind, and helped him believe everything was going to be alright. Even if he couldn’t prove it would actually be. And Josefumi knew the two of you were out here. So perhaps it could wait just a tiny bit longer. It wasn’t as if he could obtain what he was aiming for this very second. Might as well enjoy what he has next to him while he does.
“We can go back in a little bit. I’d like to stay out here a while longer,” He responded after his small debate in his mind.
You nodded, a smile on your face as you lean back against him. Part of you wished to hug him, but the other didn’t want to remove your hand from his. It was warm and soft, though he did take perfect care of them. Ultimately you decided not to bother, you could get your message across without wrapping your arms around him.
So this time you were the one squeezing his hand, offering three words to him, “I love you.”
It was silent for a moment. Which was fine by you, it didn’t matter whether you got a response or not. But you did.
“I love you too.”
And if you had looked closely, you could see the faintest detail of a smile on his face being highlighted by the moonlight.
