Work Text:
Yoongi groggily followed the other members and Bighit staff to the departure area of Incheon International Airport. They kept smiling for the cameras despite the fact that legions of paparazzi and fans always attempted to swallow them alive in airports.
They were lead to a private waiting area and had about an hour before they could board the plane. Each member sauntered off to find a comfortable space in the room.
Yoongi was dead tired at the moment, which wasn’t anything new, but the level of his exhaustion and stress were currently unbearable. There were only a few days before their comeback yet he was still busy with other producers making final touches before leaving the country, spending the unholy hours of the night in his studio.
It didn’t help that he now comes home to an empty bedroom.
Since they moved into their new, more spacious, high-end apartment by the end of 2017, they were finally able to have rooms for themselves. Only Hoseok and Jimin remained as roommates.
As much as Yoongi loved his privacy, he felt lonely in his new room.
He didn’t admit it aloud but he missed him.
He missed his eternal roommate.
He missed his Jinnie hyung, his Jinjinjara.
Yoongi found solace in Jin. His hyung never had to do anything; he could be staying up with a cup of hot milk waiting for Yoongi and a dad joke or two to share or sleeping peacefully on his own bed hugging one of his Mario plushies and Yoongi would still find himself feeling calm just by looking at him. Just his mere presence makes Yoongi feel at ease.
So when he comes home drained from the studio, seeing Jin was enough to alleviate his stress.
Yoongi thought Jin was the perfect roommate for him and couldn’t have a better one. Jin respected his space and understood what he needed without him having to say much.
They both love the quiet of their bedroom and Yoongi loved the way Jin knew how to accommodate him and in return, Jin loved Yoongi’s serene nature. Jin’s even breathing as he sleeps also lulled Yoongi to sleep so he can’t remember anymore the last time he had a sleepless night.
They were very comfortable with each other. They knew so much about each other, even things other members don’t know. They were also each other’s backbone during the most stressful times; especially the times all their dongsaengs relied heavily on them for strength since they were the eldest.
Most of all, Yoongi needed someone who understood him despite his lack of expressiveness. And Jin was able to do that more than anyone else he knew. Jin was always the one who understood him most.
Their dongsaengs were the ones that suggested that Jin and Yoongi should be the first ones to choose new rooms since they were the eldest.
Neither said anything or made any move at first, and only peered at each other intently, as if to talk through their eyes, or what Yoongi liked to call as their “heart-to-heart telepathy” communication. It was something they always did which the other members had witnessed plenty of times before, especially when the two were subjected to moments of deciding on something together.
The younger members knew their hyungs were having a difficult time deciding because more than a minute of silence has passed and the two just kept staring at each other, occasionally cocking their heads to the side or raising their eyebrows questioningly.
Both were fine rooming together again and wouldn’t change roommates even if they were forced to. Even when they went overseas, they slept in the same hotel room. They didn’t call themselves the eternal roommates for nothing.
“Yah, Jin hyung, Yoongi hyung, make up your minds!” Hoseok complained after watching his hyungs eye each other for a good minute.
Jin jumped in surprise and Yoongi passively turned his head to Hoseok.
“You want to keep being roommates, then go ahead. Choose which room you guys want then it’s my turn to pick because I’m the third eldest,” Hoseok continued.
“I want to room with Jin hyung!” Jungkook exclaimed.
Yoongi frowned at the youngest. “We’re picking rooms, you idiot. Not roommates,” he snapped.
“But you two are taking too long! What will it be then?” Hoseok retorted.
The eldest members looked at each other again. Yoongi couldn’t decide. He liked the idea of having his privacy but he didn’t want to be separated from Jin. And by the look on Jin’s face, he knew the other felt the same.
He waited for Jin to speak up for the both of them and tell the others that they would remain as roommates.
So Yoongi was more than surprised when Jin said otherwise.
“I guess we’ll separate rooms,” Jin shrugged. “Yoongi needs his space and Eomuk and Odeng have been too noisy lately it might disturb him.”
It took all of Yoongi’s willpower not to show any emotions. He was shocked and felt hurt that his hyung decided to stop being roommates. He wanted to yell out that he had his space even when Jin was around, and that the sugar gliders’ cries didn’t bother him one bit. He wanted to scream to his hyung that he adored the three of them; Jin, Eomuk, and Odeng, and would love to keep rooming with them forever.
But he didn’t.
He simply kept quiet and blankly nodded at his hyung; seemingly confirming that they mutually agree on parting ways.
And that’s how he doesn’t have Jin as a roommate anymore, and he regrets not protesting. He’s also run out of reasons to crash into his hyung’s room night after night.
All he’s ever had lately were sleepless nights making him weary and extra grumpy as they prepared for their comeback.
He has also been becoming obviously clingy towards his hyung and he didn’t care anymore if the other members or ARMY noticed, he wanted Jin’s attention and he won’t stop at anything to get that.
He silently thanked the heavens that they could now afford to fly first class especially for long flights. He couldn’t wait to get on the plane, set his seat on full recline, and just pass out for the entire duration of the 12-hour direct flight to Los Angeles. He sleepily dragged himself across the room and plopped down on the couch where Jin was seated next to Taehyung.
“My sleepy Yoongichii,” he heard Jin murmur. His head perked up and saw Jin patting his own shoulder. “Come on, let’s sleep together,” Jin invited softly.
Yoongi obligingly closed the distance between them. He secured himself snugly on Jin’s side and his head on the worldwide shoulders.
He felt Jin’s arm wrap around him and his head on top of his.
He missed this, he missed sleeping with Jin.
He sighed contentedly at the feeling of being tucked next to the elder and started to finally fall asleep properly.
✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿
Yoongi felt a hand on his cheek that woke him from his slumber.
“Yoongichii, come on. Time to go,” he heard Jin say against his ear.
Yoongi slowly stretched his arms and unwillingly detached himself from Jin. Though what he just had was a short nap, he feels a lot better than he has for the past weeks. He opened his eyes and saw that the other members had already gone and Manager Sejin and a few security personnel were the only ones left.
He walked alongside Jin to the boarding gate and met the other members and staff there.
“Here are your boarding passes,” Manager Sejin said, handing out the passes to the members one by one.
Yoongi took an ID from his wallet and held it along with this boarding pass to present at the gate.
Based on their boarding passes, they always had the same seating arrangement on-board. First were Jeon Jungkook and Jung Hoseok. Then there were the Kims; Namjoon, Seokjin, and Taehyung. Lastly were Min Yoongi and Park Jimin.
But that arrangement was never followed; they never cared what seat assignment was indicated on their passes. It always depended on the seat map of the plane and the mood of the members.
Sometimes, the maknaes sat together to make a fuss and Namjoon throws himself next to one of the producers to talk about fresh concept ideas leaving Yoongi to listen to newly discovered music with Hoseok and for Jin to have a goofy chat with Manager Sejin.
Other times, Namjoon and Jin sat together, while Taehyung sat behind them next to one of their managers, trying to lodge himself between his hyungs when they talked. Jungkook and Hoseok would sit together and record whatever they did as Yoongi on the other side of the aisle slept peacefully next to Jimin.
Yoongi usually didn’t care who he would be sitting next to since he got along with all the members very well and loved them all dearly. As long as he got his sleep, there shouldn’t be a problem.
But for this flight, he wanted to be next to Jin.
He knew he would be able to sleep better with Jin by his side. He also wanted to make up for the lost time with his roommate.
He looked at the other members warily to see if there was anyone targeting to have Jin as their seatmate on the plane.
He first checked Namjoon and sighed inwardly with relief when he saw the boy fawning over Taehyung. Yoongi smirked and thought that maybe Namjoon missed being roommates with Tae as well.
He turned to see Hoseok reading a book and Jimin videocalling his parents. Manager Sejin was also preoccupied with the other staff so he didn’t have to worry about him.
But then there was Jungkook.
The maknae lagged behind the others and made his way towards the eldest pair.
Yoongi firmly stood on the spot next to Jin, as if making it clear that they were to sit together.
Jungkook ignored this and squeezed himself between his hyungs. Yoongi glowered at him and tried to push him away but failed as Jungkook successfully linked his arm with Jin’s.
“Hello Jin hyung,” Jungkook greeted the oblivious oldest member who placed an arm around him.
Yoongi wanted to tell Jungkook off right then and there for disrupting his moment with Jin.
“Hi JK, I heard they have banana milk on board just for you,” Jin said, a smile tugging at his lips.
Jungkook nodded in confirmation. “Bang PD-nim requested it for me,” he replied cheerfully.
Yoongi listened to them continue talking and his heart sank. For sure they would sit together in the plane. How could he sleep comfortably now? He stood behind them and watched them bitterly as they conversed about video games.
They presented their passes and IDs and entered the gate to board the plane. Everyone was talking excitedly despite being tired for comeback and BBMAs preparations. Everyone except Yoongi, who was still behind Jin and Jungkook who were talking loudly about Call Of Duty: WWII, throwing daggers at the maknae’s head with his eyes.
They entered the prestige class area exclusively for the seven of them and their managers. The seat map was two by two this time.
Taehyung was the first one in and much to Yoongi’s surprise, Namjoon did not sit next to him and stood on the side. He frowned and wondered if Namjoon was waiting for Jin to sit with him.
Why did everyone want to sit with Jin hyung? Why can’t they let him be with me in peace?
Yoongi watched Jimin hurriedly make his way to the available space next to Taehyung and the two immediately started arguing on what movie to watch. Hoseok, still absorbed on his book, sat on the seat across the aisle from the two.
To Yoongi’s delight, Jin pushed Jungkook forward.
“Off you go,” Jin told the maknae, indicating that he sit next to Hoseok. Jungkook didn’t complain and was still enthusiastic to sit next to Hoseok but Yoongi couldn’t help but smirk mockingly at the youngest member.
And now he’s left with Namjoon.
Yoongi knew he can’t win against Namjoon.
So he sighed and accepted his defeat, trudging past Jin and chose to sit on his own behind Jimin and Taehyung who were now laughing and wheezing excessively at some Bangtan memes on Twitter that ARMY made.
He roughly shoved his backpack into the overhead bin and threw himself on the seat near the window. He immediately latched his seatbelt on, placed his headphones over his ears to drown out all the noise and turned away.
After a few moments, he still didn’t feel anyone take the seat next to him. He opened his eyes a bit and saw the managers huddled by the entrance, talking to the other Bighit staff on the other side of the prestige class area.
He turned his head slightly to peek at Jin. He couldn’t help but feel gloomy at what he saw.
Namjoon was seated on the window seat across the aisle and Jin was placing his things into the overhead bin above their leader.
Yoongi’s chest tightened and he turned his head away once more.
He looked out of the window and busied himself watching the airport staff load suitcases into the plane via a conveyor belt.
He finally feels some shifting next to him. It must be one of the managers, since they were done having a short huddle with the staff. He kept his eyes fixated outside the window.
Even when the plane took off after some time, Yoongi still turned his head away. The clouds were a much better view than seeing Jin sit away from him.
Yoongi saw that the seatbelt sign was finally turned off and he freed himself. He pushed a button to set his seat on full recline. He closed his eyes as music poured in his ears, and turned to his side to get the sleep he was looking forward to.
He was just at the edge of falling asleep when he felt a hand caress one of his own. His eyes shot open and he jerked his hand away.
“Wae, hyung-” he growled as he sat up and turned to see who was next to him but was immediately rendered speechless.
Jin’s handsome smile greeted his eyes. Yoongi almost doubled over on the floor in shock.
“What, why- I thought you- I thought-” he stuttered as he removed his headphones. He looked over at Namjoon across the aisle and saw that he was in a seemingly serious conversation with Manager Sejin.
“Sorry, Yoongichii. I wanted to embrace you but ended up waking you,” Jin apologized.
“W-what? You want to what?”
“I wanted to hug you while I sleep. Continue our sleeping session from the waiting room,” Jin said, unfazed. “I know there’s this barrier below us but I can hug you from the chest up.”
Yoongi merely stared at his hyung. He was used to his hyung being overly affectionate but he still couldn’t get over the fact the Jin was next to him when he didn’t expect him to be.
“What’s wrong with you, Yoongichii?” Jin asked, getting slightly annoyed at his gaping dongsaeng. “Don’t you want to sleep?”
Yoongi nodded stupidly and lowered himself again on his seat. He stiffly laid on his back and Jin squinted at him questioningly.
“Are you uncomfortable with me now, Yoongichii?” Jin asked as he waited for his own seat to fully recline.
Yoongi kept quiet and instead stared as the seat next to him become equally fully lowered as his.
“Is it because we’re not roommates anymore?” Jin asked again. “If that’s the case, then why do you try to find excuses to sleep with me in my room?”
Yoongi gulped nervously and fidgeted in his seat.
So Jin hyung knew about his tactics all along.
✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿
“Oops, sorry hyung. I came home pretty late from the studio and thought that I entered my room,” he once lied to Jin when the elder found him the next day sleeping next to him.
He was still wearing the clothes he wore at the studio and knew that Jin hated it when the members did that. Thankfully, he didn’t scold him.
Yoongi found himself using that lie multiple times afterwards and probably used it the most.
“I missed playing with Eomukkie and Odengie,” he said another time to Jin as he held the sugar gliders in his hands. Jin was about to go to bed when Yoongi rudely barged in, asking to play with his pets.
“You go ahead and go to sleep, hyung,” Yoongi urged.
The next morning, Jin found Yoongi lightly snoring next to him, hugging his BT21 RJ the alpaca plushie.
“My head feels so heavy,” Yoongi complained one night after a night of celebration with the members and Bighit staff.
He was pretending to sway as Jin, the only one not drunk along with Jungkook, held his waist, struggling to get him into the apartment behind the other members who were holding on to each other and barely making it inside as well.
“Oof, I’m so drunk,” he added, hoping to reiterate how dizzy he felt.
“How can you be drunk? You and I have the highest alcohol tolerance in the group,” Seokjin huffed as he dragged Yoongi with him.
“I dunno, hyung, must be getting old.”
Jin tried taking him to his bedroom which came after Jin’s but Yoongi purposely threw himself down on the floor right in front of his hyung’s room.
He heard Jin gasp as he scrambled to pick him back up.
“No, no,” he said in a drunk voice. “This is my room,” he said as he pointed at Jin’s door.
“No, Yoongi. That’s my room. Now let’s go,” Jin snapped as he attempted to carry the younger one bridal style.
“No, no!” Yoongi shrieked, and quickly pushed Jin’s bedroom door open. He crawled his way inside and pushed himself up on the bed while Jin could only watch him in irritation.
He gave up trying to struggle with Yoongi because the entire apartment was already in too much commotion.
Jimin was singing a ballad off tune while taking his shirt off as he clambered over Namjoon who passed out quickly on the couch. Hoseok was crying his eyes out as he retched on the kitchen sink and Taehyung was throwing up on the common bathroom floor because he missed the toilet.
Poor Jungkook was looking around, shook beyond belief, not knowing which hyung to assist first and wished his Jin hyung didn’t ban him from having alcohol so he could be drunk as well and not have to worry about all of this.
After taking care of the rest of Bangtan, Jin resigned into his own room tiredly, sleeping next to the smaller figure who was already dozing off on his bed.
✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿
“I swore that last time we all got drunk, I didn’t plan that! It just happened, okay?” Yoongi said defensively as his hyung asked him to apologize for all the lying he did.
They were now lying together face to face, an hour into the flight, speaking in hushed voices so the others couldn’t hear them.
“We all got drunk? Or you mean them? I knew you weren’t drunk,” Jin leered.
“So why didn’t you call me out?” Yoongi retorted.
“I was exhausted and there was too much going on already. I didn’t want to deal with you as well so I just let it be.”
“I’m sorry, hyung,” Yoongi apologized for the nth time.
Jin stared at him straight in the eyes and they started communicating with their eyes once more.
Yoongi knew by the look in his eyes that his hyung wasn’t really mad or needed the apologies, he just wanted to support his suspicions on Yoongi’s behavior.
He also knew that his hyung missed him a lot too, and the arm snaking around him confirmed this as well.
“I thought you were going to sit next to Joonie,” Yoongi whispered.
“I took my earphones back from him, he borrowed it in the service van. I told him I'd take it back once inside the plane,” Jin explained.
“But maybe he wanted to sit next to you? I think he waited for you.”
“He did wait for me to make me store his stuff since I’m the strongest,” Jin boasted with a wink. “Stop being paranoid now. So why all the excuses, Yoongichii? You know you could just ask to sleep with me.”
“It’s as if you don’t know me well, hyung. I’m no good with expressing myself.”
“Ah, yup,” Jin nodded affirmatively. “So you can’t stay away from me now, can you?” he teased.
“Aish, don’t let it get to your head, hyung.” Yoongi pushed Jin away lightly.
“Okay, okay. Let’s go to sleep now, Yoongichii,” Jin said. He threw a thick blanket provided on-board over them and stared into Yoongi’s eyes once more when he laid down again.
“What?” Yoongi asked.
“Can we be roommates in the hotel?” Jin requested, his eyes pleading at his dongsaeng.
Yoongi’s stomach fluttered and he thought he could die happily from the sensation. “You don’t have to ask, hyung. Us together, it’s automatic.”
Jin smiled sweetly at him and took one of his hands in his. “Ah, my Yoongichii, you’re my soulmate, did you know that?”
“Jinnie hyung, you’re a man after my own heart, did you know that?” he returned, showing his gummy smile that he knew Jin adored so much all these years.
They talked with their eyes for a few more minutes before drifting off to sleep together.
✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿ ... ✿°•∘ɷ∘•°✿
An hour later…
“Hyung, hyung!”
Yoongi grimaced at the rude intrusion of his sleep and rubbed his eyes open. He saw Jimin and Taehyung looking at them over their seats, grinning widely like a pair of idiots.
“What now?” he grumbled. He felt Jin sit up next to him and he reluctantly did the same.
“They’re bring in the food in a bit!” Taehyung said excitedly, clapping his hands together like a seal.
“I heard they’re serving lobster meat for you, Jin hyung,” Jimin added.
Jin’s head snapped to Yoongi and he was apparently amazed, his eyes bulging out and his mouth forming into a wide ‘O’. Yoongi sniggered at his hyung’s facial expression.
“And because of that, I’m filming an ‘Eat Jin’! And you’re my special guest, Yoongichii!” Jin stood from his seat and scrambled for his GoPro in his bag in the overhead bin.
"Not again,” Yoongi groaned. “I want to go back to sleep. You can have those two buffoons as your guests,” he added, pointing to their dongsaengs who watched them curiously.
“Oh no can do. First of all, Jimin has no jams and we’ll end up bickering. Second, Taehyung eats everything. And third, you’re my Yoongichii, and you’ve guested on this plenty of times so you should know how it is by now and we’re sitting together so do I really need to explain more and stop looking so damn miserable when you know you like it anyway!” Jin yelled out, his face turning red by the minute.
Jimin started cracking up and fell back on his seat with Taehyung following suit. The other people in the cabin turned their heads towards Jin and wondered what the hell he was shouting about this time.
Yoongi cringed at the sudden unwanted attention his hyung had caused.
Jin sat next to Yoongi again. “Sorry, but as much as I love you Min Yoongi, I love food a little more! We can sleep again later!” he kept yelling, earning a roar of laughter inside the cabin.
Yoongi grimaced at his hyung, but deep inside he was more than happy to indulge him.
It didn’t matter what they did.
All Yoongi needed was to be next to Jin.
