Bring the Heat

Summary:

“I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me.”

Izuku’s has been abused for all of his life. By his father, by his childhood friend, Izuku has felt the burn. It burned and burned until it became numb. It burned and burned until it became fuel.

It burned until Izuku himself burned in the flames.

Quirkless. Useless. Deku. That’s what he has been called, taunted, mocked. But that wasn’t the truth. He did have a quirk. He knew since that one day where he was coated in flames.

Izuku took the heat for many years. Now it’s time to let it loose.

Chapter 1: The Burning Question

Notes:

Hello all, this is Gem. Just saying first thanking you choosing to give this fic a shot. It's my first for this fandom. Anyway this chapter involves abuse, drunks, and severe burns (and not in the sassy way).

Anyway, enjoy.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Izuku was two when life was great.

Back before quirks mattered everything in Izuku’s life was going great. Izuku’s parents were always nice to him, playing and buying him superhero toys to play with. He made his first friend in a boy named Bakugou Katsuki, or Kacchan as Izuku calls him. Life was just great.

Izuku was four when he learned that life isn’t fair.

“Come on Izuku, let’s try one more time. Try to breathe fire like daddy.” Hisashi states, crouching in front of a four-year old Izuku, “See, watch.” Hisashi then allowed a small fire blaze from his mouth. He held it for a few moments before cutting it off, “Now you try son. Remember it’s all from the gut.”

Izuku attempted to copy his father. He breathed deeply, puckered his lip, and blew as hard as he could. He blew and blew but not once did he see a flicker of flame come out his mouth. The young boy slouched when he heard his father sigh in disappointment.

“This is a bit worrying.” Izuku heard Inko say, “All the other kids in his class are beginning to manifest their quirks.”

Izuku remembered the first time Bakugou showed off his quirk to the class. It was an explosive type, strong just like his friend. Izuku knew Bakugou could be a great hero with that type of quirk.

And here he is still struggling to get his.

“Maybe we should take him to see the doctor, honey?”

“Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.” Hisash said as he stood up, “I’ll go make the appointment but I’ll probably not be able to take him. Never know when work will come up.” Hisashi chuckled.

Hisashi was right about that. Hisashi was a popular Pro Hero that went by the alias Blaze. Blaze’s costume consisted of a blue and red unitard that was fireproof. He also wore matching gloves and boots. His head was mostly hidden by a matching helmet with a black eyeshield. His mouthguard covered both his mouth and nose and had two nozzles that attached to the canisters one his arm braces. Hisashi had the mouthguard designed so that if he took a deep breathe, the mouthguard would sense the sudden oxygen intake and open up in preparation for a fire breath. The nozzles also allowed him to shoot fire from the canisters by taking the excess fire he breathe inside the piece and storing them in the canister to be released at his discretion.

Hisashi was also capable of breathing in flames, so he was great at rescue missions involving fire. But if he sucked up too much he would have a hard time breathing or could get a stomachache depending on which pipe the flames went down.

Despite Blaze being a popular hero, Hisashi did not own his own corporation. Rather,  Hisashi worked under Endeavor as a sidekick. With the amount of popularity Blaze has it wasn’t impossible for Hisashi to branch out, but the pay was decent enough and he rather avoid any extra paper work involving creating his own firm.

Plus, one of the only reasons the Midoriyas weren’t swamped by reporters and fans was because Hisashi kept his real identity a secret from majority of the population. Part of his popularity possibly stemmed from the fact that nobody but a select few heroes and the government knew his true identity, especially since his costume hid any distinguishing features his fans could use as clues to his identity.

The appointment was made and after a few days passed Izuku found his mother and him sitting in the doctor’s office. The doctor was sitting before them with a copy of the x-ray results.

“Hmm, this is peculiar.” The doctor began, “Izuku here is missing the joint in his smallest toe indicating that he is capable of a quirk, but it hasn’t manifested yet, correct?”

“Yes.” Inko nodded.

“It is possible that his quirk is simply a late bloomer, or so miniscule that it is difficult to determine the nature of it. When checking his temperature I did realize that Izuku’s temperature seems to fluctuate depending on the temperature in the room but it’s not consistent enough to say it’s his quirk. Also,” the doctor point to a weird sac-shaped object located near lungs, “Izuku also seems to have a container similar to your husband, but compared to him your son’s doesn’t produce any heat so it likely doesn’t contain any fire.”

“Could it be related to his quirk.”

“Possibly. I would suggest continuing on try to help his quirk manifest. If it doesn’t by his sixth birthday Izuku may simply be one of the rare cases where he is quirkless despite the lack of an extra joint.”

And with that they had left the doctor office. Inko and Hisashi continued to work with their son in trying to get his quirk to manifest.

Soon Izuku’s sixth birthday came.

But his quirk still never showed.

Izuku was eight when he learned fire can hurt.

Izuku being deemed quirkless did not sit well with his father, but he had never became as aggressive as he has now.

When Izuku had turned six and his quirk still never showed, Hisashi refused to accept the idea that his son was possibly quirkless. He continued to work his Izuku in trying to establish his quirk. But as time passed Hisashi became more and more resigned, until by Izuku’s seventh birthday Hisashi stopped trying all together.

He soon began to ignore Izuku. Getting more involved with his hero work or going out to drink his disappointment away. Izuku wasn’t dumb. He knew that his father didn’t like the fact that he was quirkless. In public Hisashi may try to respond to him but when they were home Hisashi acted like he never existed. Inko would try to get Hisashi to talk but sometimes he’ll ignore her as well. It didn’t help when Hisashi began to drink more and more. Sometimes he may stumble home drunk and in a bad mood, and when Inko tried once more to get him to talk with Izuku Hisashi would hit her in anger. Izuku’s mother soon learned not to bring him up, especially when Hisashi was drunk and seemed pissed. He would sometimes come home and simply pass out on the couch or bed. Other times he would sometimes beat Inko up and blame her for Izuku being quirkless. Sometimes Hisashi would acknowledge Izuku’s existence if only to beat him up for being a disappointment.

But it has never been worse at has right now.

Hisashi came home in possibly one of the worst mood Izuku has seen his father in so far, and far more drunk than usual. Hisashi reeked of alcohol as the man stumbled into house. Inko had stepped out of the kitchen to see who had walked in. Izuku kept an eye on his father from the hallway.

“Where is that brat?”

“Hisashi, please calm down.” Hisashi smacked her, growling slightly.

“I said where the hell is he?” Hisashi moved to hit her again. Izuku gulped as he trembled where he stood, noting the glow coming from Hisashi’s throat.

“I’m not letting you go anywhere near our son like this.” This time Hisashi punched her, knocking her to the floor.

“That brat ruined my life. I get nothing but taunts and sneers from my co-workers about how I have a quirkless child that’ll amount to nothing,” Izuku could now see the flicker of flames coming out of Hisashi’s mouth, “So if you’re not going to tell me where that useless brat is, I’ll just have to force it out of you.”

Izuku saw Hisashi’s chest puff up as he took in a deep breath and at that moment he moved.

“Mom, no!”

“We did the best we could but he’ll have a scar from his right collarbone down to his midsection, Midoriya-san.” The doctor informed Inko as she gasped, looking at her bandaged son lying in the hospital bed. Hisashi seemed to have momentarily snapped out of his stump when he heard Izuku scream from the flames before collapsing on the floor. Worrying, he quickly had driven them all to his usual hospital to have Izuku treated for the burn.

“It is very fortunate. From what you have described the burn should have been close to a severe third-degree burn, yet your son is only suffering from a second-degree one. Plus, when we checked his temperatures his temperature seemed to have rose to what should be fever level, yet he is experiencing no symptoms.”

Hisashi spoke up, surprised, “Does that...does that possibly have anything to do with his quirk.”

“Possibly. But sir, please be careful around your family when you drink. Alcohol is a flammable substance and could cause devastating damage. We’ll let you off with a warning but if this occurs again we’ll have to charge you for domestic abuse.”

“Oh, don’t worry Dr. Takiyashi-san, I’ll watch my drinking habit from now on.”

Well, Hisashi did calm down a bit with his drinking habit. But now he was giving Izuku a little too much attention.

And not in a good way.

Izuku was ten, about to turn eleven, when he learned he could burn.

After the incident Hisashi quickly went from ignoring him to having ‘bonding’ sessions with his son.

Those bonding sessions consisted of burning Izuku for periods of time, attempting to ‘help’ his son discover his quirk.

Sometimes he’ll still come home drunk and might beat on them a little, though he never attempts to burn them like did back then.

Izuku truly began to despise his father. Don’t get him wrong, he hates that his father was abusive but at least they could try to blame the alcohol for a bit of it. At least that what his mom would say. But now that his father is fully, consciously harming him with his little sessions, Izuku has become disgusted by the man he used to look up to. He had looked up to his dad as a hero figure; nothing like All Might, nobody could beat All Might, but his dad came a close second. He would watch videos on Blaze just as often as he would All Might’s.

But now the sight of that ‘hero’ made Izuku sick.

The fact that a popular hero such as him would be so abusive to his own family while pretending to be a nice guy to the people. Heroes were supposed to help people, not abuse them.

It was late at night and they were in the middle of one of their ‘bonding’ sessions when his mother came in.

“Hisashi, please stop. All you’re doing is hurting Izuku.”

“No, I’m not honey. I’m helping him with his quirk.” Izuku swore he could see the slightly crazed look in his fath - in Hisashi’s eyes, “I think he has some type of heat resistant quirk. I had to turn up the heat a few times because it wasn’t affecting him. But he seems to lose it if not constant so I had to increase the sessions a few time.”

“Hisashi, please, you’re not helping Izuku by constantly doing-”

“And what have you been doing, huh?!” His mother flinches at Hisashi’s shout, “You sit around all day and whine, apologizing about our son being quirkless. At least I’m trying to help him out.”

“You’re not helping him out, Hisashi, all you’re doing is hurting him.”

Thud!

Inko landed on the floor from the punch, but Hisashi didn’t stop there. He proceeded to jump on her, continuing to punch her as Inko shielded her face from further harm.

“Stop it!” Izuku shouted as he tried to force Hisashi off her. Hisashi would push him away before continuing to beat on her.

“Stop it. Stop hurting her.” Izuku felt tears prick his eyes as he kept trying and trying.

“Stop hurting her.”

“I said STOP!”

Hisashi did stop at that point, but not because of what Izuku had said. Rather, he was stunned by what he was seeing.

Izuku had unknowingly burst into flames in anger. Flames danced across his skin and hair as Izuku pants. He noticed Hisashi’s scowl slowly turned into a crazed grin, and it took Izuku a moment longer to notice the flames flickering harmlessly on him.

“Yes, finally.” Izuku heard Hisashi shout as he stared at his hands in shock, “I knew my son has a quirk!” Izuku felt his vision dimming and his feet sway beneath him.

“I...have a...quirk.”

And then he passed out.

It seemed Izuku had forgotten the lesson he learned when he was four, about the world being cruel and unfair. The day after incident Izuku had confronted.

“Hey, Kacchan, I just got my quirk.”

“Eh, then show us, Deku.”

Sadly for Izuku, he couldn’t replicate it. It was a bit of a spur of the moment incident so he doesn’t exactly remember how he was able to set himself on fire. But currently right now all he was doing was making a fool of himself in front of Bakugou and his group.

“Huh, you going to show it or not?” Bakugou shouted, losing patience at the the pathetic scene before him.

“I-I know I have a quirk. Just yesterday it came up and I was on fire.”

Bakugou grinned at the statement, “How about I help you out with that.” His posse snickered in response.

Izuku had found himself afterwards bruised and burned, Bakugou shouting not to pull a crappy lie again as he and his posse walked off.

Izuku was twelve when his father left.

Hisashi seemed to have practically shut down after learning his son’s outburst that night seemed to be a one time thing. He tried and tried to get it to show back up, even beating on Inko again just to rile Izuku up. But despite his efforts it wouldn’t show.

Hisashi’s drinking habit picked back up again, but he also seemed to stay out longer and longer. It got to the point where he would stay out for days before returning home and then disappearing again. The time frame became longer and longer until Hisashi didn’t show up again.

People, of course, didn’t really care too much about Hisashi disappearing, but with Hisashi’s disappearance was also the disappearance of Blaze. When Endeavor begrudgingly confirmed that one of his most popular sidekicks has gone missing the media had gone into a temporary uproar. Some of the people who knew Hisashi’s identity would give Izuku and his mom condolences and would visit to check up on the them from time to time. But as days turned to weeks turned to months of searching, the officials had declared that the Pro Hero Blaze was considered dead.

Izuku didn’t know if he should care or not about that announcement.

Izuku was fourteen when things started to change for the better.

“Alright listen up.” Izuku’s Homeroom teacher states, looking over the entire room with a glare, “You’re all third year now; meaning, it’s now or never to start thinking about your future. Today we’ll be doing a career ambition sheet to help you decide your future job.” He waves around a stack of paper as he looked over the class.

The teacher paused for a moment, before smirking, “But who are we kidding? We know you’re all shooting for the hero path.” The teacher tosses the paper as majority of the class erupts into cheers, showing off their quirks, “I’m certain each of you have good quirks to reach it.” Izuku sighs as he continued working on his Mt. Lady page in his analysis notebook.

“Hah, that’s rich!” A voice shouted over the cheering. The noise veered to a halt as attention turned to Bakugou, “Don’t compare me to these worthless trash. Like they’ll get anywhere with those quirks.”

Several students uproared at the statement.

“What the hell you talking about?”

“Hey, my quirk’s not useless.”

“What do you mean by that, Bakugou?”

“Shut up ya useless extras.” Bakugou smirked, “Not like any of you are going to U.A.”

Well, Izuku would like to disagree but he doesn’t feel like taking an explosion to the face today. This just happened to be one of his good days and he’s pretty fond of keeping it that way.

Bakugou’s statement seemed to silence the uproar. Many students started murmuring amongst themselves in shock and amazement, mentioning how U.A. had one of the hardest qualifications and entrance exam of any hero school.

“Of course you nobodies are baffled. I’m the only one from this hellhole that’s gonna make it into U.A. That written exam was pathetic and I bet the rest of the idiots attending will be just as pathetic. I’ll climb up to the top of the ranks and even surpass All Might himself.” By this time Bakugou had climbed up on his desk and was laughing.

“Oh.”  Izuku did not like the look of realization his teacher was making.

Please don’t mention it. Please don’t mention it.

“Isn’t Midoriya applying for U.A. as well?”

Why does everyone in this school has some sort of grudge against me.

Izuku has never wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear as fast as he has now, and he’s dealt with his father. There went his good day. He was hoping it would last at least until the afternoon.

Izuku curled up on himself in his seat, trying to making himself smaller, as eyes slowly turned toward him. He could feel the glares up the class boring into him until majority of the class had burst into laughter.

“Midoriya, no way!”

“It’s impossible for a nerd like him.”

“That entrance exam will kill him.” The class continued to laugh. Well, all but one person.

Izuku scrambled back as Bakugouexploded his desk.

“What the fuck are you talking about Deku. You’re not even on the same playing as the rest of these trash so what gets you thinking you can compete with me.”

“H-hey I’m just applying for a school.” Izuku’s back hit the wall,  “I-it’s not like I’m trying to compete with you, Kacchan. It’s just U.A. is one of the best schools to go to the be a hero -”

“Bullshit!” Izuku flinched when Bakugou’s hands exploded, “Like you can be a hero anyway ya useless Deku. You don’t even have a quirk.”

“Yes I do.” Izuku quickly clamped his hands over his mouth.

Shit did I just say that out loud.

The explosions confirmed it. Izuku dared to glance up at his childhood friend who was pissed based on the rapid explosions.

“Oh yeah, if you have some damn quirk like you say then show us.” Izuku glanced down at the floor.

If I knew how I would’ve been done it.

Bakugou snorted, “Like I thought. Stop telling your damn lies Deku. You’re just some quirkless, useless nobody. Heh, calling you trash would be insulting the trash.” Some of the class laughed at Bakugou’s statement.

“Alright class, settle down.” Oh now the teacher decides to reign in the class, “We still have work to get done and lessons to complete. Bakugou, please return to your seat.”

The class slowly began to quiet down and Bakugou begrudgingly returned to his desk. Izuku carefully returned to his, setting the overturned desk back on its feet before taking a seat. He still  felt the lingering looks and glares from his classmates, especially one heated one from Bakugou.

The rest of the day went fairly smoothly for Izuku despite what happened homeroom, if he ignored Bakugou’s constant glare at him. Yeah some of the kids picked on him and some of the teachers made a few passive-aggressive remarks but it was manageable. Maybe Bakugou would let the things blow over and he could still have a good day.

Oh who was he kidding. Bakugou’s more likely to blow the issue up rather than let it blow over. And by issue Izuku meant himself.

Unfortunately, Izuku was proven right. The last bell had rung and Izuku quickly packed up to escape from whatever Bakugou likely had planned. But just as he reached for his analysis notebook it was quickly snatched up. Izuku looked at the offender.

“I still got things to settle with you Deku.” Izuku gulped as Bakugou causally waved the notebook around.

“Hey, what’s that you got Bakugou?” One of Bakugou’s lackeys questioned, turning Bakugou’s attention to the notebook.

“Heh, looks like the nerd was doing some stupid quirk analysis again for his ‘future’ career.” The other lackey mocked.

“Hey, that doesn’t concern you so give it back.”

Izuku gagged as Bakugou exploded the notebook between his hands.

“Not like you’ll need it anyway, Deku.” Bakugou states as he walks over to toss the notebook out the window, “If you’re smart you’ll go someplace else and stay out of my way.” Bakugou turned to face him, “I’m going to be the first and only from this damn place to make into U.A. and I ain’t gonna have some delusional, quirkless idiot ruin that, not like you’ll get anywhere.” Bakugou placed a hand on Izuku’s shoulder as he leered over him.

‘Keep calm Izuku. I’m sure it’s still salvageable. No point making this a bigger mess.’

If Izuku had continued to look at Bakugou he would’ve possibly noticed the small bewildered look on his bully’s face. He did, at least, noticed Bakugou letting his shoulder go a little sooner than he expected.

“Ha, even after all these years he still thinks he can be a hero.”

“Yeah, wake up. There’s no way a quirkless nerd like you is going to be a hero.” Izuku twitched at the quirkless comment, but bit his tongue to keep himself from saying anything, “What’s wrong? Not gonna lie and say you do have a quirk like you usually do.” The boy laughed. Izuku refused to look up as he heard the three walk away.

“Hey, here’s a suggestion,” they had paused as Bakugou spoke, “why don’t you take nose-dive off the roof. Maybe your so-called quirk will help you out then. Or better yet you’ll actually get one in the next life.”

Izuku gritted his teeth. He knew Bakugou could be mean but the other teen basically told him to commit suicide; even his bastardly father wasn’t that cruel. His brain seemed to have stopped functioning for a moment as Izuku turned to give a comeback.

“You want to say something nerd.” Bakugou gave off an explosion threateningly.

Oh yeah, Izuku’s reminded himself, trying to avoid getting beat today. Izuku just stood there quietly as the three left the classroom. He waited until he could no longer hear their footsteps. And waited a little longer until he was certain that they had indeed planned on leaving him alone. Izuku quickly gathered his bag and left to recollect his notebook.

He had failed to notice the flickers of flames dancing his skin at the end of the encounter.

“A little burnt and soggy but still legible.” Izuku sighed in relief. A burnt notebook wasn’t too much to worry about. His father would do it to some of his other notebooks when beating and burning Izuku wasn’t being an effective form of punishment. Izuku still doesn’t know how at one moment he’s susceptible to heat and at another he’s resistant. His mom had scolded him when Izuku tried to test his heat resistance on the flame of a candle and forbade him from pulling such stunts again.

Didn’t really need to when you had someone like Bakugou around. When Bakugou had deemed him quirkless Izuku’s childhood friend had turned aggressive just like his father, sometimes worse. He remembered that at some point he started getting resistant to Bakugou’s explosion. Bakugou had realized since Izuku wasn’t responding like usual or getting marked up as easily and he and his posse would resort to physically beating up Izuku. And it would alternate from there. If he wasn’t resistant, Bakugou would fire on him until he had enough. If Izuku was Bakugou would resort to physically harming him without his quirk.

Whatever his quirk Izuku could cross out it being something simple as heat resistance since it didn’t seem consistent throughout his years of...well, abuse. Plus, it wouldn’t explain how he was able to burst into fire that one time nor his ability to sense heat. It’s fairly helpful in evading Bakugou when he’s already discharging explosions. It wasn’t really too strong, but the larger the heat source or the colder he was the easier it was for him to sense it. Like whatever’s coming out of the manhole behind him.

Wait, what?!

One second Izuku is leisurely walking back home. The next he’s being swallowed up in a pile of...mud, sludge?

“Heh, you’ll make a decent cloak.”

Great, a villain, just what Izuku needed right now. What next, his father shows up from whatever rock he crawled under.

“Hey, stop struggling. I promise it’ll only hurt for about...uhm, forty-five seconds then it’ll disappear.” The sludge villain laughed as Izuku struggled in its grasp. It said more but Izuku was more focused on surviving. He couldn’t really breathe with the thing wrapped around his mouth and nose and slowly swallowing him whole.

I can’t die here. I just can’t.

“Hm. Stop getting so worked up - wait, what are you doing?” Izuku wasn’t pay attention as he kept struggling to escape. He didn’t notice the sludge villain’s movement slow or his texture hardening.

“-kid, for I am here!” Izuku barely heard whatever was being said before the sludge villain was blown off him. Literally.

Izuku barely maintained enough consciousness to see his rescuer.

“All...Mi...igh…”

Thud!

“-y…-ey, young boy...young boy, wake up.” Izuku groaned, curling up as he shivered. The voice sounded familiar but he couldn’t quite place it. He’ll deal with that later, he just felt tired and cold.

“Five more minutes.”

“I understand the feeling, but I don’t think this is the best place to be taking a nap, my boy.” Green eyes shot open as the voice finally processed through his brain. Izuku sat up and rubbed his eyes to make sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him and freaking All Might was standing right before him. All Might was standing right before him, Izuku’s idol was standing mere meters from him and Izuku didn’t know whether he should scream or faint.

If it wasn’t for feeling so cold Izuku swore he might self-combust right there.

And...All Might looked really warm right now.

“Glad to see you are well, my boy.” The thought went away when All Might spoke. All Might then proceeded to apologize about his carelessness for pursuing the now bottled sludge villain. Throughout their conversation Izuku’s mind was switching between fanboying, being cold, and wonder would All Might be able to warm him up. He doesn’t know at what point the coldness he felt started becoming a bigger focus. And he couldn’t exactly ignore how All Might currently looked like a giant heater to him right now.

One thing led to another, and Izuku found himself dangling from All Might’s leg thousands of meters in the air.

When All Might landed to let him off Izuku apologized for suddenly grabbing his leg so suddenly, explaining that he felt so cold after the attack and All Might seemed so warm in comparison. All Might accepted the apology and turned to leave, but was stopped.

“Wait, All Might, I...I have a question to ask.”

“My boy, I don’t have the time to wait.”

“I just want to ask if it’s possible to be a hero without using a quirk.” All Might had paused, “Is it possible to become a hero like you?”

“I do have a quirk, but I don’t know what it is, let alone how to activate.” Izuku continued, not noticing the smoke coming from All Might, “Because of that many people believe I’m quirkless and…” Izuku thought of his father, then Bakugou, “...treat me badly. I want to be a hero that saves people with a smile. I want to be a hero like you so is it possi…” Izuku looked up to see a tall, skinny man.

“HUH?!”

Today has been a bit of a series of disappointment hasn’t it, Izuku thinks as he walks back home. First he gets picked on for trying to apply to U.A.. Then Bakugou tells him to basically jump off the roof. He gets attacked by a villain. And right when things look like it could be going his way his role model tells him that he can’t be hero without a quirk.

Izuku shivers slightly, wrapping his arms around himself. Even though grabbing onto All Might seemed to warm him up some, it still wasn’t enough to keep himself from shivering. He needed to get home and fast before he catches some kind of cold or worse. It wasn’t any better that a large source of heat was distracting him.

A very large source. Actually, now that he thought about it, the amount was concerningly large.

Izuku quickly raced over to the where the source was emitting from and found a crowd gathered around a street opening. Pushing his way closer to the front he got a good view of what was going on.

The buildings burned as fire shot out of a large, squirming, green pile of mud.

A familiar large, squirming, green pile of mud.

Izuku gasped as he recognized the sludge villain that attacked him earlier. And right after Izuku deduced that it likely escaped when he had grabbed onto All Might back then.

Damn idiot.

He felt extremely worried for whoever was trapped by the villain. He remembered the suffocating feeling as the villain attempted to take over his body and did not wish for that person to suffer such a fate.

Then he recognized Bakugou in that flailing pile of sludge. He saw Bakugou’s eyes widen in fear as he struggled.

And next Izuku found himself sprinting toward them.

Despite Bakugou being a bully for most of his life Izuku did not regret rushing out to try to save him while the other Pro Heroes had sat back and waited for back-up. In the end All Might had came to the rescue, once again blowing the sludge villain away with bigger air pressure. He vaguely remembered getting scolded by some of the Pro Heroes while others had went off to praise Bakugou for his resilience.

At least he wasn’t feeling cold anymore.

Trying to go home for the third time, Izuku had run into Bakugou. The other teen had yelled out about not needing Izuku to try to rescue him and a few other things. As Bakugou finished ranting he huffed and turned away, preparing to leave. But before he did Izuku thought he heard one more thing.

“Guess you’re not quirkless.” Izuku vaguely heard Bakugou mutter before the other boy stomped away. Did he hear him right or it was it just his imagination? And if he did what did he mean by that? Izuku didn’t have much time to ponder as All Might skid into view. All Might only maintained that form for a few moments before he deflated back into his true one.

All Might thanked Izuku for showing him the errors of his way. And when Izuku gave baffled look he explained how in such a dire situation where no one, not even the heroes, could act, Izuku was the only one to move to the rescue.

“You can be a hero.” Tears spilled from Izuku’s eyes as All Might spoke those words. He was so excited that he almost missed All Might’s next statement.

“Especially with a quirk like yours, my boy. I don’t know what you were so worked up for earlier.”

Huh?!

Notes:

Does anyone want to take a guess at what Izuku's quirk may be? Also, yes Izuku will still get OFA.
