Chapter Text

It all started with the birth of a child. Born without a pulse she was declared dead within seconds. Her mother was devastated of course, her first child died in her arms. Every mother's worst nightmare became a reality for the grieving woman.

That was until a cry was heard. Followed by frigid fingers grasping at her arms and her face in an attempt to find comfort. Nurses and doctors rejoiced with the shocked mother. A previously presumed dead child revived in her caregiver's arms.

"It's a miracle!" they exclaimed, unaware that they couldn't be further from the truth.

It's a quirk.

Three years later

"Can everyone please come and gather around? We have a new friend joining us today!" an overly chipper woman announced to the toddlers. Children flocked to the woman with excitement shining in their eyes. New friends always meant that there's another kid to play with. They might even a cool quirk!

"Come along (Y/n) don't be shy." ushering you along, the old woman whispered comforting words in an attempt to encourage the cowering child behind her legs. A few daring peeks later the child bravely stepped out from her shield and faced the crowd.

"My name is (Y/n)! ITSNICETOMEETYOU!" a rushed introduction ungracefully stumbled out before the three year old sprinted out the door and tripped immediately afterwards.

A period of silence passed before laughter rang throughout the classroom. Even the two women chuckled at the child's clumsiness.

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

After that spectacle of an introduction (Y/n) was swarmed by preschoolers asking about her quirk. It was natural since all the hype nowadays was surrounding heroes and their escapades.

"Why is your skin grey?"

"Do your eyes shoot out lasers? Is that why they're red?"

"What's your quirk? Please tell us!"

"Oh well my quirk is zombie. It makes me super strong and super fast! And I never feel hurt, like ever!" (Y/n) proudly announced to the crowd of students surrounding her. However, her confidence began to falter at her classmates' insensitive claims and frightened stares.

"Don't zombies kill people?"

"I heard they eat human brains everyday to survive."

"So she's not human...?"

"Zombies are monsters...(Y/n) is a monster! Run away!" with the girls' shriek all the toddlers dashed away from the devastated three year old.

Why were they scared of her? Was she actually a monster? No no she wasn't. If she was then that means her father is also a monster! He's not however, he's a hero. He doesn't take lives he saves them. If he's not a monster then surely she isn't either! Right? Yeah..! Take that stupid girl!

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Several days pass and no one wants to play or talk to the grey skinned girl. She couldn't even ask to play with anyone. She'd either be ignored or yelled at to leave them alone.

"Go away (Y/n)! Monsters can't play with humans!" Kids are ruthless...

This continued ever since she told them her quirk. No one wanted to talk to her, no one wanted to be her friend, no one wanted her around.

'I'm unwanted...'

"Are you alright?" a voice reached out to her interrupting the dejected girl's thought. A glance to her right revealed a young boy. With bags under his lavender eyes and his equally coloured gravity defying hair, (Y/n) was gaping at him. Seconds passed before the same kid broke the silence, "Don't listen to those jerks. They also call me names sometimes so I know how it feels."

"..." Your mindless staring really was starting to make him uneasy...

"Want to be friends?"

"YES!" without hesitation (Y/n) jumped at the opportunity to make her very first friend. Literally.

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Shinso Hitoshi. That's the name of (Y/n)'s only friend in her preschool. The boy was often dragged around by the girl. Most of the time they pretended to be a king and knight of their very own make belief kingdom. (Y/n) was the knight and Hitoshi was the king...well more like damsel in distress. (Y/n) had a habit of creating scenarios where Hitoshi was helplessly in dire need of assistance. And (Y/n) being...her, she made her rescues as overdramatic as possible accompanied by cheesy lines. She claimed it was for reassuring the 'distressed' king. Hitoshi thought she just liked yelling out heroic phrases.

"My king! I'll save you!"

"Don't worry, I'm here to protect you!"

And the overused, "Fear not for your knight in shining armor is here!"

However midway through her rescue mission Hitoshi interrupted the girl with a question. It's been lingering at the back of his mind for quite a while.

"Do you want to be a hero?" The question came out of nowhere and surprised the girl into silence.

After a moment of thinking (Y/n) hesitantly responded. "I think I do? I always wanted to rescue people and save them...but I'm not sure if a monster is allowed to do that." Seeing Hitoshi's shocked expression (Y/n) continued to elaborate her feelings on the matter shakingly, "I mean it's not like I don't want to try! It's just...how can I save people if they're scared of me?"

"..."

"Do you also want to be a hero?" The girl prodded trying to break the awkward silence between them.

"...Yes but people think my quirk is too...villainous." The zombie girl's eyes widened expectantly. Ever since she met Hitoshi he refused to tell her his quirk. Mentioning it now however, gave her hope that he'd finally share some information about himself.

The lavender haired boy pauses and and tries to gather courage. He was scared. Scared that once he told her about his quirk she'd avoid him like everyone else. That she'd stop being his friend and his knight in shining armour. He hasn't known her for too long but he grew attached. It was only natural considering how lonely he's been without anyone to talk with. And now he was going to lose the only kid who showed interest in him. He suffered quite a bit from anxiety for a kid so young.

"...It's brainwashing." He waited. And waited. Nothing was said.

Until a boistrous, "THAT'S SO FREAKING COOL!" bursted out of (Y/n). The young girl looked visibly shaken however, it wasn't out of fear. It was from excitement. The girl was almost vibrating with joy when she finally heard of his quirk. And all she could think of that moment was about his quirk and how amazing it was, how cool it was, how overpowered it was. At that moment (Y/n) felt proud that she had such a cool friend.

"Woah! It's so strong! You can just tell villains to stop fighting! No one could match up to you! No wonder you're the king! Dude you could help people calm down in dis-di-dis-ass-ters(disasters)!" Hitoshi was surprised but what really got him was her next sentence, "Your quirk isn't villainous, it's heroic! And you're gonna be a great hero too! I know it!"

The next few minutes were chaotic. Hitoshi started bawling his eyes out which caught the attention of the teachers. And the kids. Everyone assumed the grey skinned girl upset the boy.

'Probably called him a villain.' Was their classmates' first reactions. It wasn't new to them. Hitoshi always started tearing up when someone called his quirk villainous. But this time he was bawling...

'She must've said something really mean. She's a monster though so I guess it's normal' again the kids dismissed the event.

The caretakers however did not. It took quite a bit for Hitoshi to calm down and explain how she didn't upset or hurt him. He fed them an excuse about remembering something mean someone else said and how he couldn't hold it in anymore. Which wasn't true at all but it got the two sympathetic women off his and (Y/n)'s backs.

"Are you okay?" (Y/n) was debating if she should've asked him anything to begin with. What if she brought up a terrible memory again! The last thing she wanted to do was unintentionally make him upset again.

"Yeah." A brief reassurance for the (h/c) girl before the boy continued again, "You said my quirk is heroic right...? So you believe in me?" A determined nod from the girl was all he needed.

"Then you're not a monster either. (Y/n) let's be heroes together." With those words the zombie girl tackled Hitoshi into a crushing hug. (Y/n) didn't realize that she was hugging him a little too tight with her zombie strength. But it didn't matter to Hitoshi. No not at all.

At the end of the day when Hitoshi walked out of his classroom to his mother he came to a realization. He no longer just considered (Y/n) as a friend or as his knight. He also viewed her as his savior. Because in that classroom (Y/n) did what no one else could do in his life. She believed in him and his quirk.

Uh so idk if anyone is reading this but...anyway this story is going to be a practice run or something like that? I was originally going to post a reader insert with a different quirk and a completely different plot but I decided against it. I figured I'd use BNHA's original plot for a different story to see where my writing skills are regarding character development and other stuff. So uhh if someone is reading this and they do decide to stick around then I hope you enjoy future chapters. o3o

I'd be surprised if anyone stayed with my shitty writing skills LMAO.

Also here's a funny auto correct mistake I had while writing this. Thank god i re-read this chapter for mistakes lolol.

Edited: "The young girl looked visibly shaken however, it wasn't out of fear. It was from excitement. "

Original: "The young girl looked visibly shaken however, it wasn't out of fear. It was from excretement."

Whatta doozy of an autocorrect.

ALSO ONE MORE THING LOL SORRY

Pairings will be discussed later 'cause I'm still deciding who to include and all that jazz. More pairing tags will be added as the story goes on. :D
