Chapter Text
A third of 1-A was having a chill conversation on the couches in the dorm common area before bed, when it came to the topic of impressions. The group had seen Midoriya's All Might face impression, and then everyone was suddenly trying to be each other.
They get back to Midoriya who is so far the actual champion, probably because he was so analytical and had observed them all, when they try to get him to do Bakugou.
So he does.
He asks them for suggestions of what to say or to give him a scenario. Todoroki says someone walking In front of him because he knows already exactly how Bakugou would react.
"Oh that's easy!" says Midoriya.
He furrows his brows, his eyes somehow manage to capture Bakugou's slimmer angry look, his happy smile turns into a vicious snarl and he raises his neck like he's trying to intimidate the others. Overall it's like he suddenly captured the spirit of Bakugou's bad attitude.
"Walk behind me, Asshole!" He growls out, cussing with the confidence of a boy whose vocabulary was thoroughly exercised in the use of swears. The group goes nuts it's so spot on. They can't even believe that Midoriya had the capability of frowning that harshly, even despite how relatively good his other impressions had been.
This was just on another level entirely.
From there they try to see how close he is in other ways. Eventually Bakugou himself enters the common room on his way to the kitchen when he switches course as he hears the commotion. He comes to the group to find a mirror image of the grumpy look he himself was sporting as he stopped at the source of the noise.
The others don't notice him they're so caught up in the impression.
"Oi, What the fuck did you do to your face!" He shouts, causing the group to startle.
Midoriya's expression slips from the scowl back to his usual open and wide eyed face, if more surprised, as he looked over at the real version of Bakugou.
"Kacchan! Sorry we were all showing our impressions of each other! They really seem to like my impression of you." He states.
Bakugou scoffs as he moves to stand next to where the nerd was seated.
"Well if you couldn't at least do a half decent impression of me by now you would have wasted the last 10 fucking years with how much you followed me around."
Kirishima chimes in "No bro, you don't understand. He had you spot on!"
"Yeah man, if you weren't standing here for us to see I'd swear it's like you possessed him or something!" Kaminari exclaimed, having gotten up to throw an arm over Bakugou's shoulder. "Come on Midoriya, show him the smirk."
After the boy hesitates to make a brief glance back up at Bakugou, his face changed from his usual wide eyes to a smug, self-congratulating, confident smirk that screamed of Bakugou's own influence. It's almost uncanny how exact it is.
He nods to the nerd as if to say he'd passed, causing the boy to let go of the expression
"I guess that time wasn't a waste after all. For once you almost looked good. Still it's not as if impressions are that hard." He remarks.
"No way!" Shouts Uraraka from her spot on the couch, grabbing Bakugou's attention. "I doubt you could ever pull off an impression as flawless as that! His entire demeanour even changed, I didn't even think his eyebrows could go that far down!"
"Haaaa?! You doubting my skills? I could be any one of you, easy!" He shouts back.
"Really? Then why don't you return the favour and try Deku? If it's so easy then surely you can capture his doe eyed innocence and absolute determination." She counters, much to Midoriya's embarrassment over the description if his red face was any indication.
"Fine! Give me something to say and then prepare to eat your damn words!" He challenges.
"Why don't you try his nickname for you? He says it so often it should be a good basis to test how accurate it is" Offers Tsuyu.
With a smirk not far from the previous one Midoriya had shown a moment earlier he laughed "Too easy, I'll do the one he does when he's all smiley and shit in the mornings to greet me. Get ready for it."
The group gets ready, for even if he doesn't manage to do it they'll still be amused by the outcome.
They watched as he closed his eyes and lets his face loosen up. Then he blinked them open in a softer, but bright face and projected the feeling of rainbows and kittens outwards. His eyes were as wide as the real version and he had a smile that was so sunny it was blinding.
"Morning Kacchan!" He chirped brightly, directly at the original nerd, who was staring at him in awe of the display. A moment later he lets up the act and reverts to his own smug face.
If the class couldn't handle Midoriya channeling the exploding boy's temperament they absolutely lost it then.
A real smiley and soft looking Bakugou had just graced them and it was a perfect match for Midoriya. It was just so beautiful that they couldn't believe that they even witnessed it. They tried to get him to do it again, hopefully so they could snap a photo of the utter transformation or better yet get a video, but he refused.
Satisfied with his point being made, he sauntered back towards his original destination of the kitchen.
Once the energy died down from the event, Midoriya too exited the group, explaining that if he wanted to get up for his regular run it was best if he headed off to bed. As he bid them all a cheery good night they couldn't help noting how reminiscent it was to Bakugou's performance.
"That was amazing! Is that the power of childhood friends?" Asked Kirishima to the remaining members, once the green haired boy was out of sight.
"What's amazing is how we haven't seen more bleed over in their personalities if they have the capabilities to pull off each other as closely as they can." Commented Todoroki.
"I'm not so sure about that, there have been a number of instances where Midoriya seemed to do whatever Bakugou would in a situation. He once even jumped at a bunch of villains screaming “DIE!” at them during the USJ back in the beginning of the year." Tsuyu recalled, with her index finger on her lips in pondering.
She finished, "What's really surprising is how good Bakugou was in his imitation. Its obvious Midoriya is super observant and would have known how to pull off a great act after years of study, but I didn't think He cared to pay enough attention to Midoriya to warrant such a good impression."
The girl's words were pretty eye opening to the group. It was true that the angry blond was always trying to either have nothing to do with the other or, especially before their fight, erase the other from existence, and yet he had pulled off a flawless act of the green boy the minute he was goaded into it. Did this mean that there might be some of that obsessive attention being returned as well? Or was this truly the magic of a long shared history?
As the group too split up for bed they were left asking these questions as well as looking over their memories for other instances the pair had acted a little more similar than expected.
If one thing was for sure, the rest of their class was never gonna believe that they had actually managed to get Bakugou to smile or Midoriya to throw his own under a violent lens, and that was just a real shame.
