Work Text:

“you did all of this for me?” for todoiideku!!!

Everything was all planned. Shouto has made sure of it. Izuku knew his part of the plan and he knew what he was doing. All they needed to do was get Tenya to play along.

The anniversary of Tensei getting hurt by Stain was coming up and Tenya was more sullen than usual. He had confided in them that he was upset again over what happened in Hosu as well as his brother having to have his career of being a hero cut short. Shouto wasn’t very good at comforting people so all he could do was open his arms and let Tenya lean against him.

But he wanted to do more than that and make Tenya actually feel better during the anniversary day.

“Are you free Saturday?” Shouto asked Izuku.

Izuku blinked before nodding. “Yeah, that’s the day Tenya’s brother…”

“I think we should have a date with Tenya for the day. To distract him.”

“Oh!” Izuku’s face lit up and he bounced on his feet. “That’s a really good idea! Do you have anything in mind? We could go see a movie. There’s one I’ve wanted to see that came out last weekend. Or we could go have lunch somewhere. Oh! We could have lunch then see the movie, too. What do you-oh my god, I’m sorry I’m rambling.”

Shouto laughed. “I like the idea of having lunch and seeing a movie idea.  I want to make it special though. I’m not sure how.”

Izuku didn’t hesitate and they had ended up planning the biggest day for Tenya. Ochako and Tsuyu curiously asked what they were doing and ended up helping near the middle of the planning stages.

“I’m good at cooking and can make you guys cookies.” Tsuyu said.

“Oh, you don’t have to-” Izuku started but Tsuyu stared at him.

“I want to. Iida loves oatmeal raisin cookies. I’ll make those Saturday morning.”

“Why don’t we make sandwiches to go with it and make it a picnic?” Shouto asked quietly.

“Oh! It’s supposed to be really nice Saturday!” Ochako exclaimed.

“It’s settled.” Tsuyu said. “Have a picnic in the park a few blocks away. There’s a grassy spot behind the hill I take Ochako when its nice.”

Saturday morning, Izuku was up at seven, trying to exercise just so he could get rid of his excess energy. Tenya had been more subdued the closer it came to the anniversary and Izuku was just hoping he was even up for a date like this. Shouto had gotten the tickets already and Tsuyu was up and baking the cookies.

Tenya was in the shower after his morning run so he’d be in the kitchen for breakfast within the next few minutes. Izuku took the time to change and get ready, putting on a nicer than usual shirt and ruffling his hair a little. He met Tsuyu in the kitchen as she put the cookies in the oven.

“I only made 12 since Iida doesn’t like to eat much sugary things. I need to use the bathroom so can you watch them?”

“O-Of course!” Izuku exclaims. “You can go back to bed if you want too. I’ll clean up and everything.”

“I like being up early. I’m a frog, remember?”

Izuku blinks, smiling uneasily. He wasn’t sure what she means but she was already leaving the kitchen. He got to work washing the dishes, keeping an eye on the cookies. Tenya had come in five minutes later, looking tired.

“Hi!” Izuku says, wrapping his arms around Tenya. “How’d you sleep?”

“Hello, Izuku. I slept not that well. I am stuck thinking about Hosu.” Tenya placed a hand in Izuku’s hair and smiles. “I’ll be fine though. You don’t have to worry about me too much. If I’m upset I’ll talk to you and Shouto.”

Izuku sighs a little, nodding. He puts his head into Tenya’s chest before pulling back when the timer for the oven goes off. He hurriedly switches it off and takes the two pans out.

“Why are you making cookies so early? You can’t eat those for breakfast, you have to have something nutritious that will help you throughout the day!” Tenya scolds.

Izuku laughs, turning back and sticking his tongue out playfully. “They’re not for me, silly. They’re for you. Me and Shouto have a surprise planned! But we have to wait for Shouto to get up.”

“A surprise?”

“I’ll explain later! It was Shouto’s idea so he should be here when we tell you about it.”

Tenya opens his mouth again but Izuku rushes over and gives him a peck on the lips. Tenya flushes, closing his mouth and looking downwards.

“Don’t worry, it’s not too big. What do you want to eat? You just came back from your run so you must be hungry.”

Tenya concedes, nodding. They spend the next hour eating and talking together. Tenya seems more relaxed because of it and by the time Shouto is up he’s happier than he had been during the week.

Shouto has tangled himself around Tenya in his lap, sleepily playing with Tenya’s collar with Izuku leaning against them on the couch. It’s a comfortable silence between them with the dorm slowly waking up around them.

“Izuku had mentioned a surprise you two had planned for me.” Tenya says. “Can I be filled in on what it is?”

Shouto sits up, rubbing at his eyes as he says, “I didn’t want you to be thinking about Hosu all day. So we planned a picnic for lunch.”

“We’re also going to see a movie at three!” Izuku interjects. “It’s the new one based around how it was before the hero and quirk system and is a story about a hero trying to become one in that time when it was still illegal to do vigilante work like that.”

“Is that why there were cookies in the oven?” Tenya ponders.

“Yeah! Tsuyu heard us and wanted to make you cookies. You love oatmeal raisin so she made a dozen for you!”

“We have also made some sandwiches beforehand for the picnic. Tsuyu told us about a spot we can go in the park down the street.”

Tenya blinks, hurriedly rubbing at his eyes. “You two didn’t have to do all of this. I’m f-”

“It’s okay not to be fine, Tenya.” Izuku interrupts. “You keep saying you’re fine but being sad and angry about what happened to your brother and ashamed by how you acted is okay. You made a mistake but you know it was wrong and fixed it. We know you’re sorry and hurting and it’s okay.”

“You really did all that for me?” Tenya asks weakly.

“Of course,” Shouto says. “We do it because we love you and want you to feel better about today for a little bit.”

Izuku pecks Tenya’s forehead and Shouto kisses Tenya’s cheek. Tenya sniffs before squeezing his boyfriends to his chest.
