Summary:

[ʀyuɳѳรukɛ ɑkutɑgɑwɑ x ʀɛɑɗɛʀ] The last day of the year and the last that he would ever see of her.

Work Text:

The door opens with a creak, sounds of steps against concrete follow soon after.

Quick feet move to the edge of the crystal building, with sights to the celebrating town.

Her breath condensates into a cloud of greys and snow whites before sliding into the city air.

Numbers form themselves on her forearm, black ink taking shape of beautifully written zeros and two ones.

00:01:10

She eyes the numbers, having already known her fate since she had known of her ability.

"Your ability, you say?"

She nods earnestly, curiosity already having bitten into the depths of her thoughts.

The man hums, before nodding. "Most likely 'the maiden of the dawn'."

The child tilts her head, cautiously inquiring about said ability.

"That means that you, while the time has been stopped, will be able to sense the approximate time of death of those around you; you can see your exact date, which will go down everytime you choose to use your gift."

The infant's face falls, as the voice idly says: "A very useful ability, organizations will want you in."

"At least."

Someone joins her.

Black hair that could easily be mistaken with the darkness that surrounded them, china like skin and long windbreaker that was coal like.

The movement of the clothing catches the corner of her eye, as it moves as watercolors would in the water against the crisp breeze.

"I thought you could only see it when you halted time?"

"So did I."

Time flows naturally as they wait, watching the huddled masses congregate underneath their feet.

00:00:50

"Fifty seconds to New Year."

She nods and turns away: "I-" Her mouth closes, as she chooses to not say anything as she turns away.

The sound of steps fades away, and so does she, he realizes.

He doesn't move, knowing that it was worthless to go after her now.

It won't reach her ears, he is aware of that. Highly so, but he had to say it, even though it disappears along with the dreams and hopes that they ever had.

"So do I."
