“You… you’ve gotta be kidding me,” Yuuko muttered under her breath. She was staring at the computer screen, a video pulled up on her history she never would’ve expected. Her wife was in the thumbnail of this video. What on earth…
She clicked play.
“What’s up gamers! It’s ya girl, gaycryptidminecraft415, here with another episode of my Minecraft let’s play!”
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing right now. Was she hallucinating? It must have all been some crazy fever dream, right?
“Yesterday we fixed up that mob farm over the base -- everyone in the comments seemed to like that,” past-Natsuki laughed to herself. “Today we’re gonna go explore the Nether Fortress we found in episode… uh, 26, I think?”
She pinched herself. Nope, still here. This is real. This is happening. “Oh my god.”
As she listened to her now-wife talk about the dangers of Ghasts, completely flabbergasted, Yuuko gaped at the video.
“Make sure you wear Fire Protection IV armor, gamers!” her wife said, conspicuously not equipping any herself.
“Oh my god.”
At that moment, the living legend herself walked into their apartment. Before the door had even opened all the way, her voice called into the living room.
“Did you miss me, babe?”
There was no response. Natsuki came upon her wife in a semi-catatonic state, staring blankly at the computer screen.
“Uh… babe? Something wrong?” That’s when she heard something she had sworn to never listen to or think about again. Panic seized her heart, and she dove for the mouse. But Yuuko’s hand snatched it up first. It sounded like Yuuko wanted to say something, but all she could do was make bizarre strangled choking noises.
Meanwhile, the cursed video continued to play, “And that’s how you deflect a Ghast fireball.”
In the background of the video, another familiar voice snapped the present Yuuko and Natsuki out of their reverie.
“Natsuki? Hurry up! We’re going to be late to dinner with Kumiko and Reina!”
The Natsuki in the video turned her head away from the webcam.
“Yeah, yeah! Just… gimme another sec, I’m in the middle of somethin’ important!”
She turned back to the webcam.
“Ahh, well, looks like we’re going to have to end this episode a little bit early, gamers! But I still think we got a lot accomplished, y’know? See ya next time, and remember to like, comment, and subscribe! Peace out.”
A silly outro played for a few seconds, and then the video ended. Yuuko stared at the screen, utterly dumbstruck. Natsuki, on the other hand, was looking concernedly at her wife.
“B-babe… uh…”
Yuuko just turned to Natsuki and gave her the most scathing look Natsuki had experienced in her entire life.
“Wait babe! I swear, I-I can explain, it’s not what it looks like!”
There was a pregnant pause. Yuuko took a deep, deep breath.
“Do… do you mean to tell me, Natsuki Nakagawa,” she began, emphasizing her wife’s name, “that all of those times that I told you to help clean the apartment in college and you never did -- all of the times we were late for dates and appointments -- were because you were spending your time being a Minecraft Youtuber?”
Natsuki held up a finger, making a grimace.
“I-in my defense, the ad revenue was…” Yuuko’s glare only got even sharper. “F-fan, um, fantastic.”
Yuuko turned her head back to the screen, pointing an accusing finger at the view count.
It read 309.
Natsuki gulped.
“I-uh, babe, I’m sorry. It was a stupid decision I made, I know I’m full of them.”
Yuuko sighed in response, avoiding her wife’s eyes.
“Look. I, maybe I shouldn’t have been so harsh. I’m sorry. You at least enjoyed yourself, right?”
“Ye-um, yeah, I did…” Natsuki replied sheepishly.
Yuuko smiled faintly, putting a hand on Natsuki’s shoulder tenderly.
“Then I guess it’s alright.”
Natsuki looked at her hopefully. “R-really?”
Yuuko rolled her eyes. “You dork.”
It was at that moment that, somehow, Youtube’s autoplay kicked in. The next video began to play.
“What’s up everyone, this is gaycryptidminecraft415, today I’m here with my friends Kumiko and Asuka,” there was a cheery “Hi, everyone!” and an English "Hello, gamers~”. Natsuki continued. “-- And today we’re going to be taking a special break from Minecraft to try Yu-Gi-Oh Online.”
Yuuko sighed, putting her face in her hands.
“I’m married to an actual twelve year-old.”
(She loved her.)
