Work Text:
You had been in your apartment for two days now.
The weather outside had changed quickly, though you wished your emotions would as well. The rain reflected your current state of mind quite well as it pattered against the glass window you were looking out of. The streets weren’t busy outside, only a few couples were walking underneath the cover of their shared umbrella.
Turning away from the glass, you glance back to your phone that was resting on your desk that had lit up with another notification from your boyfriend. You would silence the device but with his line of work you always left your notifications on in case something happened.
Dating the number one hero was mentally taxing on you, at times. Not only were you fearful one day he’d come home completely battered and bruised, but you had no clue why the top hero would ever date someone like you. You barely thought you were anyone… You were a nobody, in your own mind. Nothing special at all, unlike the fantastic man you had fallen in love with.
A light tapping at your door cut through the silence of your apartment, and you frowned, not wanting to deal with whoever was here at all. Standing, you brush your slightly tangled hair out before walking over to the door, already having a good idea of who it was before messing with the locks.
The door opened to reveal Toshinori, his long, white shirt slightly wet at the shoulders, hair flattened a little from the rain. His look was one of pure concern, and you turned away from his sad eyes as you made space for him to move inside of your apartment, closing the door behind him as he stayed near you.
“(Y/N)…” He mumbles, and you frown, still refusing to look at him, instead starting off at the white walls of your apartment.
“I have been worried. Are you ok?” He tries, and you frown, walking back over to where you had been previously sitting, leaving him to follow, his brow furrowed at your behavior. Didn’t he get you wanted to be alone?
“I’m fine. Shouldn’t you be out doing cool hero stuff?” You huff out, not trying to sound as sharp as you had with that question. He had more important things to do than hang around with you all day. His life had an immensely important purpose and yours? Was nothing. That’s all you could possibly think it was.
“I… ran out of time,” He starts, and then walks over to stand in front of you, taking your hands into his own, looking down at you with his bright blue eyes, a soft look of worry on his face. “I’m more concerned about you. I’ve been messaging you. Please. Tell me what’s wrong so that I can help you.” His voice is low and caring, gentle unlike the emotions that stirred in your mind.
“You shouldn’t have to be concerned about me. There are more important things.” You meet his eyes, and quickly glance away, knowing you couldn’t handle staring into the eyes of someone who cared so much but just shouldn’t.
“You are very important to me. Of course I would be concerned. Please… What is wrong?” He tries, a supportive smile encouraging you to open up a little, and your brow furrows, frustration over his lack of understanding getting the better of you.
“What’s wrong? You shouldn’t be concerned about me because I’m nothing. Do you get that? I’m not good enough for anyone! You’re the top hero. And me? I’m nobody.” You try to ignore the well of tears in your eyes that threatened to spill onto your cheeks, resorting to looking down at the tiled floor so your love didn’t have to see you like this.
Soft, bony fingers placed themselves under your chin, slowly pushing your head back up to look at Toshinori once more, a sad look on his face as he had taken in the words he wish he could completely get rid of from your mind.
“You are everything to me.” He nearly whispers, and the gentle passion of his voice has your tears slipping down from the pools of your eyes. He lets go of your hands and pulls you into a hug, secure, but not tight. A hand rubs slow circles into your back as the other places it onto the back of your head, his thumb massaging your scalp lightly.
“B-but-” You start, but your lover only shushes you soothingly.
“Never think you are not good enough for anything in this world.” His voice interrupts your negativity. As you stood there, in the careful caress of the man who thought you were his whole world, you wondered, maybe you certainly thought you weren’t good enough for him.
But perhaps it wasn’t up for you to decide that.
