One of Mickey's favourite times was when his best friend, Hoseok, came to visit. Mickey never knew when it would happen and the rest of his family always told him that ‘Hoseok's busy now’ so it won't be as often anymore. It made Mickey sad. He missed Hoseok's voice and playing around with him. He remembered how much Hoseok hugged him when he first left. Mickey was confused until he realised how much less of Hoseok he'd been seeing.
Whenever Hoseok was on the phone, Mickey would hear his voice and get excited. He knew he was being too loud, but he hoped that his best friend could hear him yelling about how much he missed him. Hoseok always ended up video calling and waving happily at the dog. Mickey always tried to lick the screen in response.
“Hoseok’s coming today!” Jiwoo said excitedly, “You’re excited to see him, aren’t you?” she teased and Mickey responded with a happy bark before he licked her face. She laughed. When Hoseok arrived, Mickey didn’t hesitate to run towards him and try to reach as close to him as possible. He watched as his best friend gave kisses to his parents and hugged his sister before he bent down and picked Mickey up.
“Aw, Mickey!” he said excitedly and Mickey didn’t hesitate to lick his face. “I missed you too!” Mickey was too excited that night. He kept jumping on Hoseok’s lap and trying to get him to play along. Eventually, he got too tired and ended up curled up on Hoseok’s lap. He was about to doze off when the man’s phone rang. He looked up in curiosity and was curious as to why Hoseok broke into a big smile.
“Jimin?” Hoseok said over the phone, “Hi, no, yeah I’m free. Mickey’s just asleep on my lap.”
Mickey blinked up at him before he went back to his previous position but could hear Hoseok’s voice clearly.
“Uhm yeah I miss you too,” he said shyly. A pause. “Yeah, I know we have to talk,” he mumbled quietly and suddenly he started to pet Mickey’s back. “It’s complicated.”
There were a few more seconds of silence and Mickey nearly fell asleep again.
“No, I want this. You. I want us,” Hoseok said nervously and his leg jumped which caused Mickey to whine. “Oh shit, Sorry Mickey,” he said as he petted his dog’s head. Mickey sighed at the action and jumped off Hoseok’s lap only to snuggle into his side. Mickey then noticed that whoever that Jimin man was, he would call Hoseok almost everyday, sometimes even more than once. He didn’t mind though, not when he saw the big smile on Hoseok’s face.
The next time Hoseok visited, he brought a friend. Mickey ran towards the door to Hoseok but was confused by the man who stood next to him.
“Mickey!” Hoseok said as he picked the dog up. Mickey cautiously barked towards the stranger but was reassured when Hoseok put his hand on the other man’s shoulder. “Mickey, this is Jimin,” he said with a smile. Mickey’s eyes widened slightly. He knew that name.
“Hi, nice to meet you,” Jimin said with a big smile and a wave. Mickey barked at him once as he wagged his tail, as though ensuring that he approved of the man. Jimin called him cute and tried to carry him. Mickey was skeptical but when Jimin held him close and started scratching his back, he immediately melted against him. Hoseok laughed.
“He likes you a lot,” Hoseok said before he looked at Jimin with a smile. “Makes two of us,” he added and Mickey felt Jimin tighten his hold on him.
“Hyung, that’s embarrassing.”
“Just stating the truth,” Hoseok said before he called out for the rest of the family. Mickey was content to stay in Jimin’s arms.
Throughout the night, Mickey made an observation. Jimin really liked being as close to Hoseok as possible. It’s like he would get out of his way to sit next to him. Mickey’s not sure if anyone else noticed but the pair were definitely holding hands underneath the table. Mickey could relate though. He thought Hoseok’s hands were warm and his hugs were the best out of anyone in the world. If Hoseok hugged Jimin as tight as he did Mickey, Mickey could definitely understand. He always felt like home when that happened. He wondered if Jimin felt the same. That night, as he watched them watch a movie together on the couch and he saw how snuggled and comfortable Jimin looked in Hoseok’s arms though, he figured that’s exactly how the man felt.
“We’ll be back soon!” was the last thing Jimin said to Mickey. Mickey was excited already. He liked Jimin a lot. After that one visit, Jimin began to frequent the Jung household a lot more.
He came almost every time Hoseok visited and he always questioned the days Hoseok didn’t bring him along. Hoseok always explained that Jimin had his own family to visit too and that maybe Mickey will get to meet them one day as well.
One time they visited, Mickey saw them outside in th backyard. He was worried they would both get cold so he ran towards the glass door to get their attention. He figured they weren’t that cold because their faces were really close together. It looked like their noses were touching. Mickey barked anyway and the pair jumped away from each other. Mickey was even more concerned now that he noticed both their faces were dark red. Mickey kept barking. The pair opened the door and came inside and Mickey reached up for Hoseok. Hoseok complied and picked him up.
“I should feed him,” Hoseok said and Jimin nodded, face still red.
“Right.”
“Uhm-should we-uh-“
“We can talk after,” Jimin said shyly, “That was uhm-good,” he stated as he covered his face.
“That was good for me too,” a pause, “I wouldn’t mind doing it again,” he added. Jimin giggled. Mickey barked. The boy was hungry.
The next visit, Hoseok and Jimin had a fight. Mickey watched in worry as Hoseok and Jimin yelled at each other outside on the lawn. Everyone was out and Jiwoo told Mickey that Hoseok and Jimin were gonna come by to look after him for a couple days.
“I’m tired of hiding!” Jimin said loudly and Mickey pouted.
“What do you want me to do about it?! Just tell everyone? Hold a press conference?!”
“That’s not what I meant, hyung!”
Mickey yelled at them to stop fighting but the pair just stood in silence at each other. That night, Hoseok went to bed on the couch while Jimin stayed in Hoseok’s room. It was too quiet for Mickey.
“I think I screwed up Mickey,” Hoseok whispered as the dog jumped onto the couch to sit in his lap. “I shouldn’t be so harsh on him,” he added. A pause. “You know, I’m kind of terribly in love with him. Probably too much,” he sighed, “I guess I should tell him that, huh?”
“You what?” a voice called out and Hoseok whipped his head around so fast Mickey jumped in surprise. Hoseok picked Mickey up and placed him aside as he stood up and walked towards Jimin.
“I’m sorry,” Hoseok said, “I just-I’m scared what’s going to happen to us if we-“
“I know,” Jimin said, “I’m scared too. I’m sorry. I just got so stressed and tired and I-“ Jimin cut himself off, “You’re in love with me?”
Hoseok turned deep red and Mickey wagged his tail excitedly when he realised the two were about to make up.
“Terribly in love,” Hoseok said with a smile. Jimin pursed his lips as his own cheeks reddened.
“I am too,” Jimin whispered and he watched as Hoseok rushed forward and pulled Jimin into his arms. Mickey barked as Hoseok pulled away and gave Jimin a kiss. A lot of more kissing happened after that.
They both ultimately ended up sleeping in Hoseok’s room.
When the rest of the Jung family came home, Mickey watched as the two told them something that they were extremely happy about because afterwards, the family pulled the two into a big hug and gave them a lot of hugs and kisses.
After that day, the family kept telling Mickey that Jimin was officially considered part of the family. Jimin would always laugh in response and Hoseok would tell them to stop embarrassing them. Mickey was happy to gain a new member of the family.
During the most recent visit, Mickey realised something. Hoseok laughed and smiled a lot more since Jimin came into their lives. He stared as the two were cuddled on the couch watching some movie just like they were the first time Jimin came to visit them.
Mickey barked excitedly before he jumped on the pair. They both laughed and Mickey didn’t hesitate to lick Jimin’s face.
Mickey felt grateful to Jimin, especially since Jimin made Mickey’s favourite person in the world happy.
End.
