Chapter Text

Min Yoongi. Age: 27. One of South Korea's most famous solo artists.

Park Jimin. Age: 24. Working as a nurse at Severance Hospital.

* the story takes place in June-July and Jimin's birthday hasn't passed yet, that's why he's not 25.

Min Yoongi.

The name alone was enough to make thousands of people go into frenzy.

Honestly, sometimes Yoongi really couldn’t understand the hype.

He was just doing what he loved – music.

So yeah, he was making some good music-

Okay, some really good music.

But even after all these years, he still had it hard to believe that he had come so far. He still couldn’t believe that hundreds and hundreds of people lined up to get his albums or camped in front of the concert halls just so they could get better seats for his concerts. It still felt surreal when he released a new song and it instantly topped the charts, he also felt weird whenever he received praises, be it from seniors, his friends or others in the industry.

It’s been six years since he made his debut and the beginning… oh, it was the definition of hell.

Creating music was Yoongi’s biggest dream and performing as an underground rapper at small venues, late at night, it wasn’t the best, but at least it was something. But as time passed, he got greedy, it just wasn’t enough. The thrill of going on stage was always present, but he just started craving for more. That’s why one day, he decided to give up the little fame he had in the underground scene and go big.

He wasn’t a fool, he knew it would be hard. He knew he would have to start from the bottom and he was aware of the fact that nobody was going to have his back, he had to do this all on his own.

South Korea wanted pretty faces, lovely voices, a perfect attitude.

Yoongi could offer anything, but those.

He wasn’t ugly, but he wasn’t exactly a beauty as people would say.

He sounded like a dying goat when he tried to sing. Well, it wasn’t that bad. His whispering kind of singing was rather pleasant, the fans really liked it and wanted to hear it more often, but he was a rapper. His voice was deeper and huskier, he had never had the urge to be a good singer, he just wanted to rap, so he focused on that.

His attitude… he wasn’t rude or ignorant, but he wasn’t the type to keep his mouth shut either. He always talked back and he often made haters know their place by releasing a diss song. He rarely smiled unless he really found something funny. Otherwise, what was the point? Why should he fake smiles? So what if he looked a bit grumpy? So what if he cussed from time to time? Alright, alright. He did it daily, but he never offended his staff. He respected the people who worked with him, because he knew he could be rather bitchy at times, especially in the morning, but everyone around him put up with his temper and he was grateful for that although he didn’t express it with words, he was terrible at expressing his emotions. But those who joined his team, remained and quit only for a solid reason: marriage, pregnancy, moving to another city. Yoongi’s attitude was never the reason, most of the staff members told him he was a really cool guy and that they liked him the way he was, there was no need to pretend around them.

But when he was on stage… it was a different matter. He was often tired, but he always tried to appear confident whenever he was performing when in fact he always doubted whether the public will like his new tracks or not. The response was always good, but Yoongi paid more heed to the negativity.

He was aware of how stupid that was, because he knew couldn’t please everyone.

There were so many people who screamed in joy whenever he stepped onto the stage, there were so many who loved him, for his music, the music that was his life. His lyrics were straightforward, today’s society wasn’t used to such truthful and always blunt lyrics which perfectly depicted the reality, they were always on point. But this was who Min Yoongi was, he didn’t hold back, he rapped with all his heart, he poured his soul into the music he made and the fact that he had so many fans made him keep going, it made him believe that he was on the right track.

It wasn’t like that from the start though.

There were barely any companies who wanted to sign someone who refused to sing, dance or be in a group. Yoongi was a lone wolf, he couldn’t imagine himself being thrown in room with a bunch of guys he didn’t know and become a team. Personalities clashed and Yoongi didn’t want to constantly get into fights just to prove his point when he could be making music.

He wandered like some stray animal for weeks. Everybody shook their heads and slammed the door in his face. He was about to give up, he was this close to just leaving Seoul and going back to Daegu.  Because, he had already left the underground scene, there was no way he was going back there and he came to Seoul to perform, to make music and if he couldn’t do that, there was no point in staying.

But then, one day a small company said ‘Yes’, Yoongi thought he was hallucinating at first, that it was just his wishful thinking, it was hard to comprehend the fact that someone had finally decided to give him a chance.

Your mixtape is really good, Yoongi-shi. There’s emotion in your voice, in your lyrics. They are real, people will relate to that. They will go through the pain you have been through, they will suffer with you, they will be angry with you, they will smile with you, they will jam their heads to your music, they will silently cry at night when things are hard, but your music will make them try a little harder, it will bring back the hope in their lives, it will make them dream and try to achieve those dreams just like you did.

Big Hit Entertainment.

That was the company, which had chosen to give Yoongi the green light.

And it soon turned into a place, which Yoongi could call home.

He debuted half a year after signing the contract.

He already had a bunch of ready tracks, which barely needed any touch up.

However, he had other things to work on.

His stage presence was without a doubt mesmerizing, he knew how to hype up the audience.

But the CEO explained to him that things were going to change a bit.

Yoongi was now going to be an idol and just like all other idols he had certain activities.

Performing on music shows, visiting variety shows to promote his album, hold fansigns.

Yoongi hated such labels – rapper, idol… He was just an artist, he was someone who adored music and wanted more people to hear the pieces he worked so hard on.

He also had to go though some training when it came to dancing. He didn’t exactly have a choreography, he moved freely on stage and he had back-up dancers, but there still certain moves here and there especially during the chorus.

Yoongi despised interviews. He felt like he answered the same questions over and over again and it was like the person who was asking him all those question didn’t give a fuck about his answer and just nodded and hummed in reply before moving to the next question. There were exceptions, of course. Some interviewers really showed that they cared and there were a few who even did not follow the script, Yoongi liked that, he hated it when things were staged.

There were both pluses and minuses, but he was ready to make sacrifices so he could one day be on the big stage.

That proved to be much harder than he had expected though.

The first two years were torture, it’s like all his hard work was in vain.

So many idols debuted every month, so many new faces, so many big companies that could promote their artists better.

Profit? There was nothing like that.

Yoongi had a really small fanbase at first, but he loved the sincerity in the eyes of his fans. They were truly enjoying his music and in such moments Yoongi really thought that all the hardships were worth it, he was getting closer and closer fulfilling his dream.

He had very loyal fans whom he remembered with fondness, because they were there with him, from the start, they were present at his first showcases and attended all up until his most recent one. Yoongi made music for the world to hear and he loved interacting with his fans and he liked hearing their honest opinion. Some were really keen on teasing him and even said things like ‘We all know that you are a softie, Oppa.’, that genuinely made him laugh and the fansites never failed to capture his amusing reactions.

He needed a stage name. Not that Min Yoongi sounded bad, but still.

He was known as Gloss in the underground scene, so he wanted to choose a different name.

His CEO once joked that he was as pale as sugar and that he should just go for Suga.

Both of them had laughed it off back then, but somehow the name had stuck in Yoongi’s head and in the end he debuted as Suga.

A year after his debut he held his first concert, the venue was small, there were only around 2000 people, but that was more than enough.

But sadly, as much as some loved his lyrics and his outspoken personality, there were even more who hated him for that.

He rarely read comments on Social Media, because he knew how many hateful ones he would come across, but he still did it from time to time.

There were many rumors circling around him, because of… let’s say his bad boy image.

He was always passionate and even wild on stage and naturally the haters started spreading stories: that he was snob, that he ordered his staff around and treated them like slaves, some even said that he hit people when he was mad.

Crazy bastards.

Yoongi did raise his voice at times, but it was mainly because he was not satisfied with his work and was mad at himself, not at someone else. It’s needless to say that he had never raised his fist at anyone, though his blood did boil and he really wanted to punch someone when he was stupid enough to scroll through the comments on an article about him and read all the bullshit, which people wrote about him.

Two years and a few months after his debut, Yoongi released his first full-length album entitled Agust D and that also became a pseudonym he used.

Somehow, from then on his fanbase enlarged five times, then ten times, then twenty times.

Not long after that, he held his fist concert at a huge hall and more than 10 000 people came.

His fame just skyrocketed.

He got calls from many artists who wanted to collaborate with him, his third mini-album broke records for most sold copies by a solo artist, he signed tons of CF contracts, he started winning award after award.

This was it, this was what he had shed blood, sweat and tears for.

His music had finally reached many and he was proud, he was glad that he had the willpower to keep going, to keep trying even when a lot of people told him that his tries will be futile.

Many even called him a traitor for leaving the underground scene and debuting as an idol.

That did hurt, especially when the remarks came from people whom Yoongi had rapped side by side with, people whom he admired, people whom he could even call friends.

He didn’t expect them to understand, he just followed his dream and even though being referred to as an idol did not feel very nice back in the day, he was at least given the freedom to make his own music, nobody pushed his opinion onto him. If Yoongi was not satisfied with the beat, if there was something off with the lyrics, he simply did not include those songs on his albums and worked on them until he knew he would be okay with being associated with those tracks.

And just as the number of fans increased, so did the number of haters.

People were getting more and more ridiculous by each day.

It’s already been six years since Yoongi debuted, but he never got rid of that idiotic habit of his to check the comments once in a while.

He often saw red, because of the dumb shit that he was accused of.

Aside from the comments that his music was complete trash, that he didn’t deserve any of the good things which were happening to him in the past few years, there were also some which gave him a good laugh.

Like the ones, which stated that he was a thirsty asshole who dated a different person every month and that he slept around a lot.

Oh, yeah he had fun with those rumors.

Because the last time he dated was months before his official debut and he rarely had time to rest, let alone play with people in such a filthy way, toying with someone’s feelings was the last thing he wanted.

He was actually a total clutz when it came to dating, he absolutely sucked at flirting, that much he knew.

He was a helpless case, but because of the charismatic image he had built over the years, he was often mistaken for a tough guy who knew how charm women and trick them into sleeping with him.

He’s a celebrity.

He has money.

He has it easy.

I bet he doesn’t even have to say a thing to score a date.

So yeah, those rumors were quite entertaining. But sadly, some believed those stories.

Yoongi knew that no matter what he did, no matter what he said, there would be people who would still find faults in him.

But at times he wondered if he would ever find a person who would love him for who he was, someone who would love Min Yoongi, not Suga - the idol, not Agust D - the fierce rapper.

Just him.

He often wondered what it would feel like to wake up next to someone in the morning with no make up on, how wonderful it would feel to wrap his arms around that certain someone, to kiss that person and tell him how much he loves him.

It was yet another dream.

But so far, nobody had managed to snatch Yoongi’s attention.

His heart had never sped up at the sight of anyone.

He had never felt the urge to fully dedicate himself to someone.

Nobody had made him think that maybe there was a greater love than the one he had for music.

Nobody….

Until one night he got attacked by a frantic anti-fan and ended up in hospital.

It did sound like a horrible experience, but who would’ve thought that there… he would meet the one person who would change his life?

Who could’ve imagined that Min Yoongi would fall head over heels out of the blue?

Yoongi was definitely grateful for the splitting headache and the bump on the back of his head, which stayed for days.

Because otherwise, he would have never met him…

Park Jimin.
