Work Text:

After a mission gone wrong, Shouto was left quirkless. A small needle had stripped him of his quirk. His father was absolutely livid. His friends, were upset for him. But he just brushed it off as if it were nothing. Of course he was angry. He was sad and just down right frustrated. Shouto had lost his quirk cause he wasn’t quick enough.

But he didn’t cry about it when it happened. He didn’t do anything. All he felt was- was surprised. Suddenly he didn’t feel the ice coursing through his veins whenever he tried to summon the powers. He didn’t feel the heat roaring against his skin or hear the flames. He felt lost. What was he going to do now? Shouto Todoroki was quirkless. And to his father, absolutely useless.

After it happened, Shouto didn’t go to hero training anymore. He attended the usual classes, but never hero training. Right before the class started, he’d gather his things and leave. He didn’t want to watch his classmates use their quirks while he just sits in the side lines with his teacher. It hurt. More than he let on. His heart was aching. His stomach never felt hungry. Shouto felt as if he was useless. He couldn’t do anything. His mother told him she loved him either way. But it didn’t feel like it. He couldn’t save anyone without a power.

On a daily, Shouto cried in the showers, just like he did anything else. Silently. He always went whenever no one was in there. Water rolling over his lean body, fat tears rolling down his face. Maybe the occasional sniffle or hiccup. Whenever he got out, he’d make sure to try and make it appear like he hadn’t been crying. Doing everything in his power to calm himself before exiting the communal showers. With the blankets face, he’d walk back to his room, shutting the door gentle. Tears threatening to fall.

Shouto sat on the floor, staring at his hands. He tried to summon his quirk, either one. He’d do this every night trying his hardest before giving up. Tonight he was more frustrated than usual. After five minutes of it not working, his fist hit the floor, letting out an angry sob.

“Fuck!”

Shouto ran his hands through his hair, staring up at the ceiling. He remained living in the U.A dorms even if he was useless, since he did still go to school. Sometimes he hated it. Whenever he entered the common room sometimes, chat about whatever his classmates had been talking about died out. As if it was a sensitive topic around him. It’s their quirks, not his. He doesn’t care. He always tells them to resume their chat. And they do. Just quieter.

A soft knock on his door drew him from his thoughts, a voice following.

“Hey! Uh, Todoroki? Are you okay? Bakugou came down stairs complaining about you being loud or something.”

Kaminari. His boyfriend. The only person who refused to look at him differently. (Other than Midoriya.) Denki didn’t look at him with pity or sadness. Sure, he did at first. But after a while he stopped cause Shouto had asked him to. Shouto didn’t want the looks towards him to be different. So his boyfriend was quick to comply. Their relationship returned back to normal. Except this time Denki told Shouto about things that happened at hero training. He’d comfort Shouto whenever he asked for it. Denki Kaminari was a great boyfriend.

“Come in.”

The door opened, and closed quickly. Soft footsteps stopped by his head before sitting next to him. Shouto sat up, tears still rolling down his face as he stared at his boyfriend.

“It didn’t work again.”

Shouto’s voice wavered And was weak, bottom lip trembling. Denki grabbed his wrist, both of them and held them gently. He kissed the palms gently, staring Shouto in the eye. The latter hung his head and let out a small sob, leaning forward into his boyfriends hold. Arms wrapped around him, gently rubbing up and down his back.

Of course it pained Denki to hear his boyfriend cry over something that couldn’t be helped. If he could, he’d find the bastard who did this and shock him till he couldn’t think. Whenever Denki has been informed, he wasn’t too sure how to feel about it. Multiple emotions coursed through him. He was absolutely destroyed for Shouto. But also angry. There were too many emotions.

“Hey, hey Shou take a deep breath. Everything will be fine. I promise. Why don’t you talk with someone who’s in the same boat as you? Maybe Ragdoll. Or an upper class man? I think Mirio was his name. The same thing happened to him.”

Denki spoke softly, the sobbing coming from his boyfriend slowly dying down. Either way, he kept Shouto’s head pressed against his chest, gently stroking his hair.

“Denki.. I just want to go to sleep. Please? I promise we can talk a-about this in the morning.”

Shouto hiccuped, rubbing the tears from his face only to be replaced with ones still falling from his eyes. Denki smiled softly, placing a soft kiss on the top of his lovers head.

“Of course. Anything you want Shou.”

Standing, he helped the heterochromic male to his feet before exiting the room. They took the elevator down to the third floor, Shouto’s head hanging as sniffles could be heard. Denki only presses a finger to his own lips whenever someone passed, shaking his head. Whenever the duo entered Denki’s room, the male shut the lights off and led his boyfriend to the bed. They stripped down to boxers, getting comfortable. Shouto held on tightly to Denki, arms around his waist while the latter whispered soft, loving words.

“Thank you.. Denki. I love you.”

The yellow haired male smiled, a soft blush appearing on his face.

“Of course Shou. I love you too.”
