“Thanks” Would Be Enough But I Like This Better

Summary:

Filled with inspiration the reader makes Tokoyami something to display in his room. Tokoyami, desperate to return the favor enlists the help of multiple professionals. Had he known what it would lead to he might have just stuck to a simple thanks. No one is complaining though.

Notes:

Basically these two awkward teens fumble over how thoughtful and caring the other is. Eventually leading to a confession but not in the way either had planned.

Chapter 1: The Room

Chapter Text

“Next is-!” Mina declared energetically and she and Hagakure turned towards Tokoyami who was leaning against his door with passive body language.
“This is foolish.” He said but refused to budge until the hyper duo had to physically cast him aside to get a look at his dorm room. You smiled sheepishly and offered a hand to help him up which he almost hesitantly took
“SO BLACK! SO SCARY!!” The voices of your classmates rang out. You looked up in awe. It was absolutely perfect! There were candelabras set out with fake candles,a a human skull with lights in the eye sockets, a illuminated fortune teller’s ball, and a couple bull skulls that also had illuminated eyes. There was one framed painting, of what you couldn’t tell at the moment, and a some posters. The far wall was symmetrical from the matching skull posters, to the mounted bat wings, and the black drapery in between. The simple wooden desk, and dressers,(some with black linens on draped on top to break up the access of light color,) and bed frame, along with the round geometrically patterned area rug, gave it a distinct organic gothic vibe. There want much light, but what was there was a delicate purple glow, gently and eerily cast over the room. When decorating a room in such a way it’s easy to get carried away and have a dark cluttered mess, but he’s pulled it off perfectly!
You were about to share your thoughts with everyone but before you could you and the rest of your classmates were ushered out with a loud,
“GET OUT!”
It was time to subject the girls to the scrutiny of the best room judgment council, and you were up first. You had to pretend not to hear the ‘forbidden garden’ comment shared amongst a handful of the boys as you went to unlock it for everyone.
“Well okay, I’m up next, but I’m gonna warm you now it’s probably not what most of you are thinking.” Your door swung open to reveal an eclectic miss-mash of various nautical, woodsy fantasy, goth, and Japanese decor. That along with the numerous game and anime figurines and post strewn about, plain black out curtains, and a mattress with no bed frame tucked away in the near corner you knew it didn’t look the most impressive, but it was homey to you. The girls sympathetically patted your back in understanding but the boys had gone absolutely rowdy for the focal point of your room. Set up on the far wall was a mounted 30” flatscreen tv with a ps4, Nintendo switch, Xbox, and Nintendo wii hooked up to it. Underneath that was a desk armed with cubbyholes that held all your games, controllers, and movies. On top of the desk was a PC with a gaming keyboard, and iPad Pro, and a number of hand held gaming devices. In front of the desk was a big comfortable reclining desk chair that was halfway wheeled out to the center of the room.
Kaminari was the first to react.
“WOW! (Name) YOU LIVE LIKE THIS!?! This set up is sick!” You laughed at him, feeling a lot better about your room.
“Thanks but it’s not what it looks like. All of this is from years of birthday and Christmas presents, allowances, car washes, and hand me downs.” You replied after logging into your computer to let him have a look.
“That just makes it more impressive!” Kirishima piped up, “to think most of this is old yet you still have it looking brand new! That’s super manly!”
“UUHN!” Uraraka sounded in agreement.
You were so busy answering questions and assuring Iida that you wouldn’t let gaming get in the way of your studies that you almost missed the walking plague making his way to your dresser he closed his eyes and was trying to waft the scent to him when you slammed the drawer open and smashed his face in with a loud,
“NICE TRY ASSHOLE!” The open drawer revealed a collection of crystals and other organic nick knacks. “Not that it’s any of your business but these drawers hold all of my collections and accessories. There aren’t any clothes in here.” You opened a few more drawers to prove your point. The blight seemed to have a dangerous glint in his eyes as he made a mad dash to the closet only to be scooped up by Dark Shadow and thrown into a ready and waiting net of Sero’s tape. You politely bowed and offered a deadpanned, “Osoreirimasu,” which earned you a couple of chuckles.
It was high time you all moved on to the next girl’s room and on the way out you fell into step with Tokoyami.
“So (Name) you wouldn’t happen to have any Bloodborne™ would you?”
“Nah, I have Dark Souls III™ tho! I know the aesthetics are different but the game mechanics are basically the same.” He nods in acknowledgement. “I was going to get my hands on a Bloodborne™ but I’m having such a hard time beating Dark Souls that I don’t know if I should spend the game money on another one until I beat it. I’ve got that crazy set up back there but I’m actually not very good at games at all.” This takes him by surprise.
“Then why do you spend the money on it?”
“Eh?” You blink, “Well because I love it. Even if I suck crazy bad it’s still fun. Besides if I gave up just because it was hard then I’d have no place being here!” At this Kirishima, who’d been walking behind you two, clenched his fist and let a single manly tear escape him. Tokoyami smirked down at you.
“I suppose that’s true enough.”
Some time later and after all of the votes were been tallied it was determined that Sato’s the winner with almost all of the girl’s votes. You’re surprised to find that you came in at a close second, though you shouldn’t be with the way the boys were drooling over your games.
“And finally Tokoyami has one vote!” Mina announced the last straggler to gain a single vote. You couldn’t tell if he was secretly happy he at least got one, or if he was was ashamed that it was only one. You began to wonder if maybe you should have just voted for Sato, so he could save face. Oh well you would happily vote for him again though, he was much better at interior design than you were. Although maybe sero’s room was actually the most well put together?
You all went your separate ways and went to bed. Ready to start your new life in the UA dorms.
