Work Text:
“So when did you start smoking?”
Red eyes rolling to the side to meet the dark brown ones of the other, they just stared for a moment before shifting back over as his shoulders lifted in a shrug. Moving his hand up to take a drag of the cigarette, he looked over to blow the smoke at the other’s face, smiling gently as his face scrunched up from the act.
“Aw—dude—”
“Come on, you should be used to that smell considering how much you smoke yourself.”
“That doesn’t mean I want yours blown at me!”
“I started a while ago, wondered when you would notice some of yours missing.”
Mista’s eyes stared at him wide eyed, blinking a bit as if he was trying to register fully what he’d just said to him before patting around his pockets for his pack. Pulling it out, he examined the amount of cigarettes left inside, frowning and mumbling how he really hadn’t noticed until now. Fugo simply brought the cigarette back up to his lips.
“’S that one of mine you got there in between your lips then?”
“No,” he replied, blowing the smoke out up at the gray sky. “I invested in my own. You were gone for a while on that mission after all.”
“You addicted to them that quickly already?”
Frown settling on his lips, he just shot Mista a glare as he lit a cigarette of his own, watching as he blew the smoke out and sighed. No, he hadn’t become addicted to them. But he did need his own eventually.
“I’m not addicted. They help with the nightmares.”
“You should figure out a healthier way to deal with those you know.”
“It’s more likely my stand will kill me before these do.”
“Anything at work could kill us before smoking does.”
Mista sat down on the concrete step they had both been standing on, and he moved to do the same. Sitting for a moment in silence, he let what the other said roll around in his head. It was true. Everything they did could possibly get them killed—the fact they managed to survive this long was a feat in and of itself. Of course it helped with Giorno’s stand healing them now. Recovery and success thereof was much quicker and more likely. But the fact of the matter was that they could have very well have been dead by now. In fact he should have been dead by now. He wasn’t supposed to be here, that fact was one of the reasons the nightmares kept on coming.
What he was thinking about must have been plastered on his face, as he could feel Mista’s arm wrap around his shoulders in a comforting motion. Leaning into it a bit, he just sighed, putting out the cigarette on the ground.
“I was going to tell you eventually that I started smoking.”
“Really? Like when?”
“When you started to taste the smoke probably.”
“That’s called being caught, not telling me. You don’t need to keep everything a secret you know.”
“I was joking. I’d have told you once you got back, but it looks like you found out before I was able to tell you. Welcome back, by the way.”
As he said this, he turned to give the other a kiss. It was nothing more than a quick peck, which earned him a pout from the other that he couldn’t help but laugh at when he pulled away. Snatching Mista’s hat, he stood back up, ignoring the protests from the other who remained seated on the ground, clearly not caring enough to get up. Eventually he gave a ‘tch’ before turning away from him, taking another drag as Fugo was left to roll his eyes at how easily he’d given up.
“You are so damn lazy.”
“Nah I just know I’ll get it back eventually. Sides, if I don’t, I can steal something of yours as repayment.”
“You’re too big to fit into anything of mine,” while he spoke, he nudged at the other with his foot. “You’d break all of the seams and my clothes would be ruined.”
Putting out his cigarette, Mista smiled up at him. “Maybe that’s what I want to happen. You take my hat, I ruin everything you own.”
Frowning once more, he tossed the hat back as Mista easily caught it before standing up. He was obviously bluffing, but that wasn’t a risk he was willing to take.
“You’re insufferable.”
“Yeah but you chose to date me anyway.”
Putting his hat back on, he leaned in to kiss Fugo again, smile on his lips. He couldn’t help but smile back as he leaned in, wrapping his arms around the other’s neck. The other tasted like nicotine, but he was sure that he did just as well. Mista had been on a mission for a little over a week, but it had felt like a lot longer than that when he wasn’t able to spend time with him like this. Leaning into the kiss for a brief moment, he pulled back soon after, but not moving far from the other’s face.
“I missed you,” he mumbled out, barely audible to anyone but the other.
Mista let out a laugh, reaching a hand up to pinch at his cheek. “Really now? Even with how insufferable I am?”
“Yeah,” knocking the other’s hand away, he smiled at him. “It’s one of your charms. Being so insufferable I come to miss it when you’re gone.”
“Aww, how sweet. Come on, Giorno wanted to brief us on something. I was directly told to get you without making out so clearly, we already failed in that department.”
Scoffing, Fugo shoved the other away as he rolled his eyes, but couldn’t help from cracking a smile to match the grin plastered on Mista’s face. Shoving the other boy forward, he followed after him. He may really be an insufferable idiot, but he was his. And he was glad he had made it back alive to spend at least one more day with him.
