not with a bang but with a whimper

Summary:

"so this is how the world ends, not with a bang but with a w h i m p e r"

Work Text:

and his eyes closed

and he knew he was going to die

but he just smiled

because death seemed like bliss

compared to what his life was like

but then he woke up

and saw a beautiful face

and thought living was okay

but the face he saw

was one he would never forget

it was branded in his brain

and he would remember the man who saved him

and he would want to repay him

so when they met one day

he walked up to the man

and told him thank you

the man was surprised

but said it was no problem

though the boy insisted that he was indebted to him

so the man took him home, made him dinner

but never realized he was putting the boy

in a deeper debt

and so deep that the debt ran

that the only way to repay him

was by a kiss

by a smile only for him

by a look just for him

and this was how the boy repaid him

by loving him

until it was too much

and he became infatuated

and dug his own grave

just because of one man

he lived because of that man

and now he was going to die because of that man

his love ran too deep

so one morning he saw the man walking

and decided to walk alongside him

the man never minded

and so they walked

until they were crossing the street

and a car came barreling towards them

the boy pushed the man out of the way

but wasn't so lucky

as he was hit

and was suffering injuries

that no one could fix

and so he would die

in just mere minutes

when the man realized

that his savior

was just a boy

and he was going to die

because of him

and so he said to the boy

who only had seconds left

so

this

is

how

the

world

ends

not

with

a

bang

but

with

a

whimper

and the boy smiled

and said those three words one more time

before his eyes closed

for eternity

and they put him in a wooden box

six feet under the ground

and on his gravestone

the man had those words

along with the three words

he had always

neglected to say

and he cried for hours

on the ground

blaming himself for the death

of the one person he loved

and the one person

who

loved

him
