Work Text:
Namjoon took a deep breath, savouring the warm wind that was brushing against his skin, and the peculiar smell coming from the trees.
Spring was here.
He smiled when he noticed that the cherry trees near his building had finally bloomed, and took out his phone to capture the beautiful sight in picture. He also took some selcas for his parents and his instagram, only stopping when a noise on his left surprised him. He blushed, embarrassed by the thought of someone walking on him while he was taking pictures of himself, only to sigh with relief when he notcied that the person responsible for the noise was just a cat.
He crouched down to be at the same level as the cat and held out his hand so that the animal could sniff it. It was quite small, and its hair was a flaming red. The cat stared at Namjoon with its green eyes for a few seconds, and then rubbed its muzzle against his hand before stepping forward to rub against his belly and legs. Namjoon smiled and stroked the cat's ears, laughing when the animal began to purr. He lifted the cat carefully, until their heads were at the same height, and kissed its little nose.
“It was nice meeting you little kitty. See you around."
The cat huffed before walking away.
Namjoon smiled to himself and resumed his walking towards his building. His brows furrowed when he noticed a moving truck parked nearby and the entrance door wide open.
He stopped in front of his mailbox and took his time with his mail, hoping his new neighbour might make an appearance and he could catch sight of them. He was about to leave when he heard footsteps coming down the stairs, and soon his new neighbour was in front of him.
The first thing Namjoon noticed was a pair of Balenciaga sneakers, and long legs in tight fitting jeans with holes in the knees. His eyes passed over a simple green t-shirt before stopping on the face of the boy in front of him.
For a moment, Namjoon was blinded. The boy had the brightest smile he had ever seen (and that was saying a lot since he was friends with Jimin), high cheekbones, a long, thin nose and gentle brown eyes. His hair was black except for a few strands that were dyed purple and a bit curly.
“I- Hello? I didn’t know we were going to have a new neighbour in the building," Namjoon said when he realized he had been staring and it was probably rude of him.
New boy laughed and holy shit, even his laugh was beautiful. Namjoon was doomed.
“Yeah... I took the flat of the Johnson’s. They’re going to have a baby soon so they wanted to move into a bigger flat.”
Namjoon hummed, looking at the floor.
“I’m Hoseok,” new boy said, extending his hand for Namjoon to shake.
Some kind of spark ran through his veins when their skins touched, making Namjoon shiver. That was weird...
“I’m uh... I’m Namjoon... I live across the Johnson’s actually so, I guess we’re gonna see each other often.”
Hoseok smiled again. Did he ever stop???
“I’m glad we met then. I’m almost finished moving in, do you wanna meet up for a beer later maybe?" He didn't wait for Namjoon to answer before talking again. "I'm sorry if you find that weird, I'm just new to the neighbourhood and you seem like a nice guy. I could really use a friendly acquaintance here.”
Namjoon checked the time on his phone screen, it was almost 6PM. Part of him was anxious about getting to know someone new, especially since it wasn't something he had expected to do but another part of him remembered how it was like to be alone in a new environement and to be fair Hoseok looked like a nice guy too.
“Sure... Just knock on my door okay?”
“Okay,” Hoseok said before bowing politely and walking out of the entrance hall of the building. Namjoon watched him leave, heart still beating fast at the thought of having this handsome man as his neighbour. He shook his head before climbing the stairs, now was not the time to have a crush.
Hoseok knocked on his door exactly an hour later. They spent the evening getting to know each other, and to Namjoon's greatest sorrow, his new neighbour was as interesting as he was handsome. He learned that Hoseok was a dancer, that his favourite colour was green, that they shared the same tastes in movies and music and that he laughed a lot, like a hell lot. The way he spoke was also very captivating. He always had a smile on his face and told some of his stories with big hand gestures. Namjoon wasn’t sure if it was his second beer that was starting to kick in, but he couldn’t help but stare at the mole on Hoseok's upper lip and his cute little dimples.
Hoseok left a little before midnight, but not without leaving his number to Namjoon. The youngest stared at the screen of his phone for a long time after the other left, admiring the selca he had taken a little earlier for Namjoon to use as his contact picture.
Namjoon was truly fucked.
*
Namjoon woke up because of a strange sensation on his nose. Something raspy and wet brushed his cheek, making him roll over his stomach in an an attempt to escape from the soggy attack. He grabbed his glasses that were on his bedside table as usual, and put them on his nose before turning around and letting out a cry of surprise.
In his bed, wrapped in his sheets, was the orange cat he had seen the day before on his way home. The cat walked slowly towards him, looking him in the eyes, then climbed up to stand on his hind legs, his front paws resting on Namjoon's chest.
“Meow...”
Namjoon stroked the cat behind its ears, noticing that it didn’t have a collar. He sighed before catching the animal in his arms and glancing at his clock radio. It was a little after nine o'clock, a perfectly acceptable hour to visit his new neighbour.
He made sure that he looked presentable by looking into the mirror and even took a chewing gum to be sure his breath was okay. He grabbed his keys while still carrying the cat in his arms, and headed for his neighbour's apartment. Hoseok was already fully dressed when he opened the door, and his smile was so bright that Namjoon felt the need to squint his eyes, as if he was blinded by the sun. He cleared his throat, suddenly embarrassed in his jogging and tank top.
“Hey, I was wondering if it was yours?" He asked, pulling the cat in front of him. "I had never seen this cat before yesterday and I woke up with it in my bed and I just thought... that maybe it came with you... You know, because you just moved in and... shit I’m babbling aren’t I?”
Hoseok laughed.
“You were, but it’s kinda cute. I guess you’re not a morning person.”
Namjoon scratched the back of his head.
“Not really... As a writer, I always find evenings and nights more pleasing.”
The cat made a noise, as if to remind Namjoon of the reason why he was standing in front of his neighbour instead of sleeping.
“So yeah, the cat, yours?”
Hoseok shook his head.
"Unfortunately no, but she's really cute. Maybe you should keep her, she seems very attached to you."
“She? How do you know it’s a girl?”
“The way you are holding her,” Hoseok smiled. “It is pretty obvious it isn’t a male cat.”
“Oh...”
“Do you wanna come in for coffee or something? I have tea too.”
Namjoon felt his anxiety rise again and shook his head with a polite smile on his lips.
“It’s nice of you but I have things to do actually... Rain check?”
Hoseok smiled. Again.
“You better.”
Namjoon’s heart was still beating like crazy when he came back into his apartment and sat on the couch, the cat on his knees. He stroked her head for a while before locking eyes with her.
“How would you feel about staying with me uh? Until we find your real owner.”
She began to purr.
Namjoon took that as a yes.
*
Namjoon took off his glasses and put them on his desk before rubbing his eyes. He glanced at the clock on his computer, and sighed when he noticed that midnight had already passed and that he was far from being done writing what he had to send to his publisher the next day. Namjoon was a very creative person, but his imagination didn’t work very well with deadlines.
He took a sip of his coffee, frowning at the now cold liquid on his tongue, and headed for the kitchen to recharge.
He didn’t remember the events that followed, but a loud knock on his door woke him up, and he realized that he must have fallen asleep while he was writing because it was now sunny outside. His text file contained more than one hundred pages of the letter "B", but fortunately what he had written during the night had not been erased.
Namjoon could feel the start of a migraine and the unpleasant sensation in his mouth that was due to dehydration, but he didn’t have time to dwell more on these inconveniences because someone knocked on his door again. He was only half-surprised to discover Hoseok when he opened it.
“Hi, I'm sorry to disturb you at this time of day, but I have someone over and I promised to make them breakfast last night, but I just realized that I don’t have eggs, and I was wondering if you have any?”
Namjoon felt a strange sensation in his stomach. For a second he thought of jealousy, but that wasn’t possible. For starters, he didn’t have feelings for Hoseok, he barely knew the guy. And secondly, the person who had spent the night at Hoseok’s could be just a friend. He wasn’t jealous. The unpleasant sensation was probably coming from the fact that he had drunk more than five cups of coffee in one night.
“I think I do, let me check.”
Hoseok smiled, his dimples digging his cheeks in a way that made half-asleep Namjoon fight against the urge to poke them. He won.
When Namjoon came back with the egg box in his hands, he found Hoseok peppering the cat with kisses. His heart made a small jump in his chest in front of the cuteness of the scene, and he mentally cursed himself for not having his phone on him to immortalize the moment.
“Did you name her yet?” Hoseok asked.
Namjoon scratched the back of his head.
“I didn’t actually... I’ve been quite busy for the last few days and I just never, had to call for her you know? She’s kinda always near me anyway.”
“I see..." He booped her nose. "You could call her pumpkin, she’s orange after all.”
The cat hissed and left Hoseok’s arms in a hurry, making the boys laugh.
“I guess she didn’t like it.”
“How would you like it if I called you sugar?” Namjoon asked before blushing furiously. “Because you’re sweet you know? I didn’t mean it in a romantic way of course.”
Hoseok just stared at him with an amused smile on his lips.
Then, he walked to Namjoon and put himself on his tiptoe before kissing his cheek with a "muah" sound.
“Thanks for the eggs.”
And he left, closing the door behind him.
"You'll end up swallowing flies if you stay like that with your mouth open for too long," said a voice.
Namjoon jumped and looked around him, alert.
“Pumpkin is a dumb name by the way, and I already have a name anyway.”
Namjoon blinked several times to make sure he had really just seen his cat talk to him.
“What the fuck?” he muttered.
The cat stretched and tilted her head to the side.
“You’re not dreaming Namjoon, I can talk. And I’m going to help you woo Jung Hoseok.”
Namjoon opened his mouth to answer before stopping and laughing.
“Shit I must be really tired. I really need to sleep.”
The cat rolled her eyes. She would try again later.
*
This time when Namjoon woke up, everything was normal. He was in his bed and his cat was sleeping silently on the pillow next to him. Her eyes opened when she felt Namjoon’s hand on her belly, petting her, and she opened her mouth to yawn. Namjoon felt the odd urge to put his finger in her mouth, but she snapped at him before he could do anything.
“Don’t even think about it.”
Namjoon screamed, and in his stride to get away from her, fell off the bed and banged his head against the nightstand. The cat walked to the edge of the bed, her green eyes scanning the writer who was lying on the floor.
“Are you okay?”
“No I’m not! This deadline must have driven me crazy, I’m hearing voices. Shit and now I’m talking to a cat.”
“I’m not just a cat.” She hissed. “I’m a magical cat.”
Namjoon stared at her with his mouth hanging open.
“Wait... What? You mean... You’re talking for real, I’m not hallucinating?”
Namjoon was aware that magic was an undeniable part of their world, but he had never been confronted to it before. He had learned at school that many magical creatures were evolving in their world, helping humans. Witches, seers, fairies. Most of the time, they had to hid their true identity, because not everyone reacted positively to the fact that magic existed. But he had never heard of magical animals before.
“Are you someone’s familiar?”
The cat rolled her eyes at him before jumping on his chest.
“I was before, but it’s been a long time since my witch died. Since then, I’ve just been on my own. My name is Zemi by the way.”
“I – I don’t know what to say. Why did you choose me? I mean... I'm nothing special, I can't do magic.”
Zemi huffed and rubbed her nose against his in an affectionate manner.
“I like being on my own, but it’s been a long time since I talked to someone. And you seemed like a sweet human, I could see it in your aura.”
“My aura?”
“It’s a very deep purple, with gold undertones. Bright too.”
“What does it mean?”
“It means that you’re a visionary. You think a lot about life and its meaning, and you are very wise and open minded. That’s what drew me to you. Not many people like you exist, even in the magical world. But to be honest I stayed because you give good belly rubs.”
Namjoon laughed and stroked the cat’s ears.
“Anyway, now that I’m here I’m going to help you Namjoon.”
“Oh?” The human raised an eyebrow. “Help me with what? My novel?”
“No... with your pathetic crush on that noisy neighbour of yours.”
Namjoon's eyes went round in surprise and he grabbed his pillow to hide his blushing face.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Zemi huffed.
“Sure you don’t.”
*
Zemi was nowhere to be found when Namjoon woke up the next morning. She had disappeared for the night after their little talk and she hadn’t come back all day. Namjoon was starting to worry when the sun went down and there was still no sign of her. Even a magical cat could still get ran over by a car. He grabbed his keys and jacket, deciding to go look for her outside.
He jumped in surprise when he came face to face with Hoseok as he opened the door. His neighbour had his hand up, as if he had been about to knock. He was also wearing a leather jacket... and a dress shirt with a low v-neck. Namjoon felt weak in the knees all of the sudden.
“Oh, sorry. You were going out?” Hoseok asked.
Namjoon nodded.
“I can’t find Zemi, the cat.”
Hoseok hummed.
“I can help you with that. Actually, I was coming to see you because she’s lying on the seat of my motorcycle and she doesn’t want to let me approach her, which I don’t understand since she seemed to like me last time I came to your place." He bit his lip. "I'm really sorry to bother you for that, but I have to be in town in half an hour and I don’t want to risk losing an eye if I come too close to her.”
Namjoon became red with embarrassment but also with anger. He had made Zemi promise to stay out of his relationship with Hoseok, but it seemed like she hadn't listen to him.
She seemed unbothered when they arrived in front of the building. Her eyes were closed and she opened them only to glare at them with a smearing look. Namjoon shook his head with a sigh, then walked over to take her in his arms.
“I will make you regret this,” he whispered into her ear.
She answered by putting her paw on his mouth.
Hoseok was watching the scene with a little smile on his lips and then proceed to crack his neck, which wasn’t supposed to be so hot... but for some reason it was, and Namjoon gulped when he saw his Adam’s apple.
“I'm supposed to see some friends tonight," Hoseok said. “You want to come with me? They're very nice, I think you'd get along well with them.”
Now, Namjoon was a very introverted person, and he didn’t really like to meet new people without having had the time to prepare himself mentally beforehand. But Hoseok's eyes were shining with so much hope and kindness. And even if Namjoon could be dense most of the time, it was obvious that his neighbour was sincere with his invitation and really wanted him to come.
Zemi scratched his arm and she didn’t need to speak for him to understand that she was encouraging him to accept.
“Okay, but I have to get changed first.”
Hoseok gave him a big smile and Namjoon knew he had made the right decision.
“I’ll warn my friends that they need to wait for us. Don’t take too much time on your hair, it will be flattened by the helmet anyway.”
Namjoon coughed.
“You mean we’re still taking the motorcycle?”
“Of course, I wouldn’t miss on the opportunity to have your arms around me,” he joked with a wink.
The writer let out a half-muffled laugh and began to climb the stairs fast before Hoseok could see his rosy cheeks.
*
Namjoon was nervous when Hoseok parked his motorcycle, but his heartbeat slowed down when they entered the club. It was not what Namjoon had expected, and he was relieved to find that the atmosphere was a little more intimate than what he had imagined.
The club consisted of a bar, a space with a few tables and sofas, a staircase that led to a fairly modest dance floor and a toilet in the back. The lighting was blue and purple and the music varied between jazz and songs that Namjoon had heard on the radio.
Hoseok pulled him to a corner of the sitting area where two young men in their twenties were waiting.
"Sorry for the wait," Hoseok said, kissing his two friends on the forehead.
One of the two boys pretended to be disgusted while the other grabbed Hoseok's hand to leave a kiss there as well, before bursting into such a noisy laugh that Namjoon found himself smiling.
“You’re forgiven. I can understand why you were late,” said the one who had laughed while looking at Namjoon with one of his eyebrows raised.
Namjoon coughed and scratched the back of his head.
“It wasn’t me actually... It was my cat. But that’s a long story...uhm, I’m Namjoon, Hoseok’s neighbour. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Hoseok was smiling at him, encouraging.
“My loud friend right here is Seokjin and the quieter one is Yoongi.”
“You’re calling me loud? You have some nerve mister I applaud whenever I laugh.”
Yoongi laughed and Namjoon was surprised to see some colour on Hoseok’s cheeks.
“I do not...”
“Oh but you do, right Namjoon?”
The writer bit his lower lip.
“I’m sorry but you do...”
Hoseok crossed his arms over his chest and pouted.
“I can’t believe you. I came here to have fun and I’m being attacked right now.”
“Sorry?” Namjoon said, sitting on the couch next to Yoongi.
Hoseok sighed.
“I’ll forgive you if you promise to dance with me later.”
Namjoon's throat tightened.
“I –”
“Just say yes before he starts doing aegyo,” Yoongi begged.
“I'm going to need a lot of alcohol to make that happen.”
“Deal,” Hoseok said with a laugh. “Beer for you and a mojito for me.”
Namjoon nodded and tried to pretend he wasn’t looking at the way Hoseok’s hips were swaying when he walked to the bar, but if he trusted the little smiles that Seokjin and Yoongi had, he hadn’t been smooth enough.
While waiting for Hoseok to return with their drinks, the three boys began to talk and got to know each other. Seokjin was the owner of a restaurant and Yoongi was a music producer. For this reason, and because Yoongi seemed to be introverted like him, Namjoon felt quickly at ease and spent a good part of the evening talking to him while Hoseok and Seokjin were joking and talking loudly next to them. Namjoon wasn’t sure if it was because of the alcohol or not, but a bubbly feeling was wrapping itself around his heart.
Since he had started working on his new novel, he hadn’t really taken the time to go out and socialize, and his close friends knew how to respect his intimacy even if it didn’t prevent Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook to barge into his flat sometimes with food and movies for what they called "interventions".
Namjoon was sipping on his second beer when Hoseok stood up and held out his hand.
“Come on, let’s dance.”
Namjoon was looking at him, apprehension written all over his face, but still took Hoseok’s hand and let him bring him to his feet. With that, the oldest turned around and went down the stairs to the dance floor, slipping in between sweaty bodies with a tight grip on Namjoon’s hand. If he had been a little more sober, Namjoon would have felt uncomfortable in the middle of all those people, but all he could think about now was how the other boy’s skin on his was making him feel.
Hoseok turned around when he found a spot far enough from the other people and started feeling the beat before dancing. Namjoon remained paralyzed for a few seconds, his mouth wide open while his eyes couldn't leave the way Hoseok was waving his body and hips to Jennifer Lopez's Dinero. Hoseok threw his head back while watching Namjoon through half lidded eyes, and freaking smirked at him. He grabbed the writer by the loop of his belt and pulled him closer before wrapping his arms around his neck, sensually moving his hips against his.
Namjoon stopped fighting and put his hands on the dancer's lower back, his fingers soothing small circles over the bare skin right over the waistband of his jeans. The youngest wasn’t really much of a dancer, but he tried to follow Hoseok’s rhythm, attempting to ignore the fact that they were practically grinding at this point and that he was so close to get a hard on with the way the other boy was pressed against him. Hoseok’s eyes were staring into him with an intensity that made Namjoon want to squirm and the want written all over his face was taking his breath away.
Hoseok would have probably kissed him if the music hadn’t suddenly stopped and if the lights hadn't came on as the staff and people around them began to sing happy birthday to a girl who had sat near them in the sitting area.
The moment had passed after that, and Namjoon pretended to be tired so he could go home. Hoseok volunteered to drive him back, but Namjoon needed a moment alone to think about what had happened that night, and what had almost happened...
*
“How long are you planning on playing dead for? It’s already been two days since your night out with sexy neighbour... You know? That night where you just left without even trying to kiss him?”
Namjoon groaned and hid his head under the cushions, curling up on the couch as Zemi watched him from the kitchen counter.
“You’re so stupid Kim Namjoon, I can’t believe you.”
“Hey! I will not let myself be insulted by a cat, and how do you even know my full name?”
Zemi rolled her eyes and jumped on the back of the sofa.
“Please, I’m a magical cat, I know how to read.”
Namjoon was going to answer with something clever but a knock on his door stopped him before he could say anything. He got up from the couch and went to the door quietly to look through the peephole, before running to the other end of the room when he recognized Hoseok.
"If I don’t answer, maybe he'll think I'm not here and go away," Namjoon whispered, trying not to panic.
Zemi stared at him before clearing her throat when Hoseok knocked again.
"Coming," she said in a voice that was nothing like Namjoon's, but raspy enough to sound like it could be him.
“Are you out of your mind?!” Namjoon whispered half screeching.
“You can’t ignore him forever Namjoon, I’m doing yourself a favour.”
The writer groaned and threw one of the cushions at Zemi, who easily avoided it. Namjoon glared at her as she walked slowly to his room and waited for her to be on his bed to lock the door. He didn’t trust her and he was afraid that she would try something to embarrass him even more when Hoseok would be there.
He sighed and glanced quickly at himself into the mirror of the entrance. Summer had been there for a few weeks already, and the heat was increasing day after day. That’s why he was dressed in black linen pants that emphasized his long legs and a black and white zebra patterned top. He tried to rearrange his brown hair, but when he didn’t succeed, he just sighed, and grabbed a red cap that he put on his head before opening the door.
The words he was about to say died on his tongue when his eyes fell on Hoseok.
He was wearing shorts, like really short shorts and wow he had pretty legs... of course he would have pretty legs.
Namjoon didn’t know why he was surprised. He almost choked on his own saliva when he noticed that the tank top Hoseok was wearing was showing off his collarbones, and that his neighbour seemed to have a nipple piercing - if he trusted the way the fabric was clinging to his chest - and a tattoo in a language he didn’t recognize around his arm.
“So hot.”
“Wha-what?”
Namjoon turned red when he realized he had spoken aloud and was on the verge of banging his forehead against the door frame. Hoseok burst out laughing, but he too had rosy cheeks.
“I mean, it’s so hot right?” Namjoon said.
Hoseok nodded.
"Actually, that's why I'm here. I don’t know how, but my air conditioner broke, and it's way too hot in my apartment. I swear it's unbearable and the repairman can’t come until tomorrow afternoon, so until then... I wanted to know if I could stay with you?" Hoseok pulled his hands from behind his back. "I even brought beers."
Namjoon smiled and all the embarrassment he had felt since the evening they had spent together vanished. How could things be awkward between them when Hoseok smiled at him like that and made his heart beat faster.
"You didn’t need to, I would have accepted even without the beers you know."
Hoseok tilted his head to the side.
"I know."
It was like an unspoken agreement between them that they would not mention the evening they had spent together and especially the part where they had been on the dance floor. They talked about everything and nothing before landing in front of the TV with a pizza and the beers that Hoseok had brought. They watched some episodes of Friends, the writer making the other boy laugh by saying the lines at the same time as the characters since he knew them by heart.
They put on some music after turning off the TV, something that sounded like slow indie rock and settled more comfortably in the couch in a silence that wasn’t heavy at all.
Namjoon was feeling slightly buzzed and was thinking about going to bed soon when Hoseok finally spoke.
“Why did you leave that night?”
The writer almost choked and sat up straight on the couch.
Hoseok was facing him, his expressive eyes watching him carefully.
“I-I don’t know... I thought you wanted to kiss me but when you didn’t, I just felt a bit weird and I don’t know. I needed some time alone... to think,” he finished, suddenly finding the carpet very interesting to look at.
Hoseok hummed, moving closer.
“I did though.”
Namjoon's head snapped back up.
“What?”
Hoseok licked his lips and took one of the writer’s hands in his own.
“Kiss you.” He inhaled deeply. “I did want to kiss you that night. But there was just... there wasn’t a good time?”
Namjoon bit the inside of his cheek, hope growing in his heart and desire tying knots into his stomach.
“Oh... And when do you think would be a good time then?”
The other boy smiled at him and suddenly Namjoon’s lap was full of Hoseok.
“Now.”
Hoseok wasted no time and leaned in to catch Namjoon’s lips with his own, tilting his head slightly to deepen the kiss. They had waited so long for it to happen that the heat between them quickly began to feel overwhelming. Namjoon slipped his hands up the dancer’s tank top, humming in surprise against his lips when he felt a slight musculature under his fingertips. Hoseok pulled away slightly, smirking, before taking Namjoon’s lower lip between his own. The writer moaned and moved one of his hands to the other’s chest, playing with his piercing.
“Shit, Joonie,” Hoseok panted between kisses.
Namjoon pressed his hands against his back, pulling him closer, and Hoseok arched into his touch. The writer started to kiss his neck fervently, inhaling the other boy’s perfume with passion. Hoseok smelt like bergamot and honey, and Namjoon wanted to eat him up. His neck seemed to be very sensible because Hoseok started to tug on his hair when he grazed his teeth against the spot just below his ear.
Namjoon tugged on his tank top and passed it over his head while Hoseok helped him get rid of his own. The contact of their two naked torsos against each other so electric that Namjoon almost thought he’d seen purple sparks dancing around the older boy's head.
Namjoon was so lost in the sound of Hoseok’s groans, and the way the muscles of his thighs were clenching around his waist that he missed the sound of something falling into his living room. And then, when Hoseok's hand was getting closer to the bulge in his pants, a cry interrupted them.
“Oh my god my eyes!”
Hoseok pulled away from him with a start and looked around him in surprise before his eyes fell on Zemi, who was staring at them in horror.
“HOLY SHIT YOUR CAT CAN TALK!”
Namjoon got up, walking over to the cat who was still frozen in the middle of the living room.
“What the fuck Zemi?! How did you even come in here?! I locked the door!”
Zemi looked at him like he was stupid.
“After two hours I got tired of waiting so I went through your window and climbed back in through the living room’s.”
Namjoon didn’t know what to say, so his eyes fell on Hoseok, who was watching them, his mouth wide open, obviously shocked.
“Damn it, Zemi go away!”
She mumbled a small sorry before leaving for the bathroom, closing the door behind her with a twitch of her tail.
“I can’t believe it.” Hoseok said, sitting back onto the couch.
Namjoon sat back next to him and hesitated before putting a reassuring hand on his knee.
“I know and I’m sorry.” He shook his head. “Gosh I should have told you sooner, but I didn’t know what to say and I didn’t want you to think of me as the weird guy with the talking cat, and I didn’t even know how you would react – ”
“Shhh... You’re babbling Joonie,” Hoseok said with a smile.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. Actually, you’re not the only one with a big secret...”
“I am not?”
“No...” the dancer said, closing his eyes.
He stayed that way long enough for Namjoon to wonder what he was going to reveal to him. But the last thing he was expecting was for Hoseok’s eyes to be purple when he opened them again, and for his tattoo to move along his arm until it was around his neck.
Oh my god.
“You’re a – ”
“I’m a witch yes.” Hoseok said, and it was the first time Namjoon was seeing him look so afraid and unsure. His hands were slightly shaking so the writer took them in his own. “I’m so sorry for having kept this away from you, I knew I was going to have to tell you at some point, but when I got here I didn’t know anyone, and you were so nice to me. And I know some humans don’t really like magic and when we got to know each other, I just didn’t know how to tell you. I mean how do you say to the guy you’ve got a crush on that you’re a witch. I was afraid you would be scared of me and –”
“Shhh,” One of Namjoon’s hand covered the witch’s mouth. “Now you’re the one babbling.”
Hoseok couldn’t resist so he kissed his palm, making the both of them smile.
“So wait, you have a crush on me?”
The older boy rolled his eyes fondly.
“Namjoon, I’m half naked in the middle of your living room and I was making out with you five minutes ago... What do you think?”
The writer laughed.
“Yeah the mood is definitely ruined isn’t it?”
“Oh, I don’t know about that. The night is still young,” Hoseok said, his purple eyes shining like two amethysts.
“Yes, but I have questions,” Namjoon insisted, pouting.
The witch rolled his eyes, caressing the inside of Namjoon's thigh with his thumb as he laid tender kisses along his neck. Shivers ran through the writer’s spine.
“Tomorrow then?”
“Tomorrow,” Hoseok confirmed, his lips already on Namjoon’s.

When Hoseok woke up, the sun had already risen, but it was not high in the sky yet. A glance at the alarm clock confirmed that it was indeed eight o'clock in the morning. He smiled when his eyes fell on Namjoon. The writer was sleeping peacefully, his mouth half open, snoring slightly. Hoseok was used to wake up early, so he quietly got out of bed, dressed in his boxers from the night before and a t-shirt he found lying on the floor. The t-shirt was slightly too big for his frame and fell on the top of his thighs, but it smelled of tangerine, grapefruit and lavender. Namjoon’s perfume.
He walked into the kitchen, already thinking about what he was going to cook for breakfast when a shadow suddenly appeared from behind the sofa.
"So you’re a witch?" Zemi asked, curiosity shining in her green eyes.
Hoseok bent down to be at her level.
"I am, but I usually cast spells to hide my magic. I don’t understand how I didn’t realize that you were magical too though."
Zemi made a sound close to a laugh.
"I know how to hide my magic too. What kind of witch are you by the way?"
“A healing witch. I can cast spells but my magic consists of taking people’s pain away, whether it’s physically or mentally,” Hoseok said, petting her head.
She purred and curled her tail around his arm.
“Do you have a familiar?” She asked after a few minutes of purring and stroking.
Hoseok smiled at her.
“No. Wanna be mine?”
“I would like that,” Zemi said, obvious joy in her voice.
She nuzzled against Hoseok’s nose making him laugh. That was how Namjoon found them when the stepped into the kitchen, and even in his half-asleep state, he couldn’t stop himself from smiling.
The end.
