Summary:

In which Uraraka and Midoriya introduce Iida to the game of hide and seek.

Work Text:

“This is childish,” Iida says.

“I guess it is, but who cares?” Uraraka says, smiling.

“Yeah, it’s fun!” Midoriya says.

Iida looks at the two of them as though they all have very different ideas of what ‘fun’ means.

“Well, I suppose we might as well give it a try.”

Uraraka and Midoriya laugh, and several other students in the room look at them like they are weird.

“Now,” Iida says. “How do you play hide and seek?”

“Seriously?!”

“You’ve never played it?”

Iida shakes his head, pushing his glasses up his nose. “No, games like that weren’t the sort of thing I did as a child.”

“Well you missed out, Iida,” Midoriya says, smiling. “So play it with us.”

“Yeah, we’ll tell you the rules.”

Iida sighs, but smiles. “Very well.”

“One, two, three, four, five,” Iida says, counting out loud as he stands in the corner of the common room, eyes closed. “Six, seven, eight…”

“Shut up!” Bakugou shouts, but Iida ignores him.

He continues to count, remembering the rules. Midoriya and Uraraka explained how he has to count to one hundred with his eyes shut, and then search for them.

“…Twenty, twenty one…”

His friends seemed so excited, but he can’t quite see why. This game just seems childish and simplistic, and he fails to see why it is fun. Still, he might as well give it a go.

“Ninety nine… one hundred. Here I come!” he calls, and hurries off in search of his friends.

He finds Midoriya easily, tucked under the bed in Asui’s room.

“Damn it,” Midoriya says, but he’s grinning.

Midoriya then tags along with him on the search for Uraraka, and Iida realises he is smiling.

When he finds Uraraka floating behind the curtains in Tokoyami’s bedroom, Iida laughs. This is fun.
