Toudou Jinpachi likes their current life. Their university time is almost over. They are majoring in sports medicine, own three cats and see their old bicycle team bi-monthly at least. They live in a flat close to campus; it's small but they love it.
Especially since they share it with their true love.
"There's no cat food left!" Their 'true love' yells from a room over. He sounds pissed off; he really cares for these cats no matter how often he claims that he 'hates those beasts'.
Toudou gets up from the bed and leaves their half finished essay behind. It's Saturday and the weather is nice. They wanna go on a date and honestly this is the nicest excuse. They can just shop and then get some coffee...
"Let's go buy some then, barky." They say and poke their head into the next room where their boyfriend sits on the ground, completely at the cats' mercy.
His mouth is pulled into his trademark snarl. Toudou loves that expression -- they've kissed it away a million times and still get the urge to do it even now; even after these two years.
"Of course we are, shiny forehead." He grumbles and gently pries each cat off his lap. "God damn animals."
"You love them." Toudou chides and offers their hand to help him up. He takes it and pulls Toudou close as soon as he's up.
"No, I love you," he says, chest to chest with them. "Snoring beauty."
Toudou hides their face with their hands and coos. They hear their boyfriend laugh gently - it's rare and reserved only for them. They appreciate it.
"You closet furry! It's my job to be smooth." They complain, meaning none of the words they said.
"Birdbrain." he says and lets go of them, turning around to head to the front door.
"Bepsi breath!" Toudou yells after him and they laugh as they follow.
Their past self would ridicule them for every thinking they'd get along let alone be in love with Arakita Yasutomo. But it works so well - it's like breathing. It's like they're soulmates; sometimes they can even tell what the other's thinking without a word exchanged. Sure, they both need a lot of space for different reasons but they can both provide and enjoy togetherness just as much as independence.
It's perfect by Toudou's standard. This life. The present and most likely also the future.
They couldn't have made better choices.
