Chapter Text
"Hoseok. Hobi. Babe. HOSEOK!" Yoongi yelled from somewhere out in the apartment. Hoseok groaned, sitting up. It was early. Five, if his sleepy eyes could be trust the clock. Yoongi hadn't slept. He'd probably nap later.
"Go to sleep. If it's a spider, I'm not fucking touching it!" He croaked.
"No, you have to see this! I'm not crying wolf this time! It's not even a moth!"
"I'm locking you out of the bedroom if you're lying." Hoseok warned, standing up and throwing on boxers and pants before walking up to see Yoongi crouched at the end of the hallway, staring at something. Hoseok flicked on the light so that he could see better. "Okay, I'm up-- HOLY SHIT, IS THAT A RABBIT?" Screeched the poor man.
"Yeah. Quiet down, though, it's scared." Yoongi didn't turn his head to look up at Hoseok, which he normally did when he walked into a room. He was maintaining eye contact with the tiny animal, his brown eyes seemingly pinning it to the corner.
"Yoongi, cut that out, you're scaring the poor thing!" Hoseok scoffed.
"I am not." Yoongi scoffed, not breaking eye contact with the grayish bunny that had mushed itself against the wall in an attempt to distance itself from the two human men. "You screamed and now it's even scareder."
"You look like you're about to eat it. Back away from the bunny, I'll get it, then we can bring it to the vet and see if it's someone's pet." Hoseok insisted, putting a hand on his boyfriend's shoulder to tug him away from the poor thing.
"It's not a pet, Hobi. It's a hybrid." Yoongi said, still staring.
"Oh shit, are you sure?"
"Pawsitive." Yoongi held up his hands, his hoodie giving him sweater paws.
"Puns are Jin's thing!" Hoseok scoffed.
"Whatever. I just wanna know how they got in here." Yoongi said, slowly blinking at the shaking bunny.
"I don't know." Hoseok sat on the floor. "I didn't even know there were strays around this area." He studied the bunny, too.
"Well, we can't ask them anything if they're a rabbit. Well, we can, they just can't answer." Yoongi pointed out.
"Hey, lil' buddy. We're not gonna hurt you, okay? Or call the hybrid exchange people. We just wanna know what you're doing here, alright?" Hoseok spoke gently, not attempting to touch it or get closer. The bunny shifted its gaze to stare into Hoseok's eyes now, their brown eyes massive and scared. "Listen, okay? We can get you a change of clothes and some privacy so you can turn back, we just wanna talk. I'm Hoseok, and this is Yoongi. We're the only people that live in this apartment, so you shouldn't be expecting any other guests. I leave you some of my clothes since they're bigger than Yoongi's and I don't want them to be too small. Hoseok got up, springing in the air unnecessarily as he turned and ran into the bedroom. He trusting Yoongi to keep the bunny where he was and not touch him. Yoongi had a piercing stare, it was no wonder he was able to know what the hybrid was. Hoseok wandered back out, a pair of sweatpants and a plain white t shirt in his hands. He placed the stack close to the bunny.
"Think they won't bolt when we walk away?" Yoongi asked.
"The doors are closed and the windows are too. They'll at least have to turn human before they leave, and we'll be able to hear that. Besides, I kinda doubt they'll go running outside naked. That's a surefire way to get arrested." Hoseok turned from his boyfriend the to the rabbit, which was now cautiously sniffing at the pile of clothes. "We're gonna go in the bedroom. Knock whenever you're ready." Hoseok told the rabbit and practically dragged Yoongi back to the bedroom, forcing him to leave the poor rabbit alone.
"You seriously trust them to not run?" Yoongi asked.
"Well, I trust you to have not had me talk to a regular ass rabbit. As for if they are an actual hybrid, they can take the clothes and run. I never wear those sweatpants anyways and I can but like, five of those shirts in a package for five dollars." Hoseok shrugged, and Yoongi opened his mouth to reply before being interrupted by a knock. He closed his mouth, raising his eyebrows.
"I guess I owe you like, five dollars." Hoseok stood up and opened the door, smiling.
The hybrid was adorable.
He looked up at Hoseok, though not by much, his eyes large and brown. His hair fell into his eyes a bit, but it was easy to see that the kid was scared. He held his hands in front of his body, and as Hoseok showed up, he squeezed his hands together. Hoseok knew very well that a hybrid would transform in an instant to feel more secure. Yoongi peaked around Hoseok's shoulder, blinking at the young man now before them. He was pale, and Yoongi assumed it was because he spent a lot of time as a rabbit. He seemed terribly skinny, but Yoongi couldn't quite tell due to Hoseok's large cotton shirt angling off his frame.
"Do you wanna go sit down? I can get you a water." Hoseok offered the young-looking hybrid, who was still frozen and seemingly glued to the spot on in the floor. He swallowed and slowly nodded. Hoseok smiled patiently.
"Living room's that way." He assisted, and the boy nodded a few times, turning around and following the direction Hoseok had pointed him in. It wasn't a big apartment, so the bunny found his bearing fairly easy. He perched on the edge of a recliner, looking ready to bolt at any moment. Hoseok wandered into the kitchen and Yoongi followed after their new hybrid guest, lounging on the couch and staring at the poor boy.
"What's your name?" Yoongi asked, blinking slowly at the boy. The boy snapped his head to Yoongi, startled at first. He stayed silent for a long while as Yoongi stared. He did that a lot, unsettle strangers with his staring. He couldn't help old habits. The boy seemed to settle a bit.
"Jungkook." He replied.
"Ah." Yoongi nodded, and looked away in the direction of the kitchen, leaving Jungkook feeling noticeably less burdened. Hoseok walked out with a water bottle , setting it on the coffee table in front of Jungkook. Jungkook slowly reached for it, snatching it from the table after not being stopped as if they might retract their offer.
"He said his name is Jungkook." Yoongi reported.
"Okay. So. . . if you don't mind me asking, of course. . ." Hoseok said, watching Jungkook down almost half the water in one go, "How'd you get in?"
". . .Back door." Jungkook mumbled. "Please don't be mad! It was just so cold out and I knew you guys don't lock it because I've been living in the alley for a while and I didn't want to break in but I was gonna freeze to death and I promise I'll never ever ever do it again if you let me go now and don't tell anybody please I'm really sorry!" He suddenly blurted out, his speech hardly able to be made out. It was impressive how fast he'd talked.
"We're not mad. It was super cold last night." He said. Yoongi remained silent.
"I'm sorry." He apologized again. He looked about ready to cry.
"It's fine." Hoseok reassured him.
"How long were you out there?" Yoongi asked, frowning. Jungkook put the water bottle between his thighs and frowned, trying to count on his fingers.
"I. . .don't know." He gave you, slumping his shoulders.
"And the handlers didn't find you?"
"They probably weren't looking." Jungkook whispered.
"They never just let a hybrid go." Yoongi frowned.
"They do if he's troublesome."
"Yoongs, stop pressuring the kid." Hoseok out his hand on Yoongi's thigh, and Yoongi reluctantly settled down, placing his hand on Hoseok's. "I'm glad you came in so you didn't freeze. You could've knocked, but it's okay."
"I didn't want to bother you. I just wanted to curl up next to the heater while you guys slept, and I'd leave before you woke up just so I wouldn't freeze to death. I-I didn't know that you stayed up so late." Jungkook stared at his lap.
"It's fine. I really wouldn't want someone freezing to death outside if we could've helped them." Hoseok promised. "Knocking's not bothersome. Waking up to find my boyfriend staring down a terrified rabbit, a bit more bothersome. I'm sorry about him, by the way."
"I-it's your house, don't apologize." Jungkook shook his head. "I'm really sorry, I-I'll leave."
"And freeze in the back alley this time? The forecast says it's supposed to be colder tonight than last night." Yoongi pointed out.
"I guess so." Jungkook muttered.
"Um, no?" Yoongi frowned. "No, you're not gonna go unless you have somewhere to go."
"Yoongi, dear, I know you're trying to be kind, but try being less menacing for five seconds." Hoseok smiled at Yoongi. "He means he wants you to stay around for a while, at least until the weather warms up."
"Yeah, that."
"I-I couldn't, really-" Jungkook began, looking up with wide eyes.
"No, really. Stay, we'll help you get on your feet." Yoongi offered.
"I'd be too much of a burden- I'm very problematic, my handler always said I was very hard to care after-"
"Listen, Jungkook, we don't care, we're not gonna let you freeze on the street or get arrested breaking into someone else's house." Hoseok stated firmly.
"I don't want to burden you two. You don't deserve that." Jungkook insisted.
"We'll lock you in if we have to, Jungkook." Yoongi glowered, and Jungkook panicked. Hoseok rubbed at his eyes, a sudden burst of air startling him. and making him shut his eyes. Yoongi was affected similarly. They opened their eyes to see a bunny cowering in the corner of the chair, Hoseok's clothes abandoned.
"You scared him."
"Oops." Yoongi said, staring at the rabbit.
"Don't 'Oops' me, Yoongi, I might have to ban you from him until he calms down a bit more. You make him nervous."
"I can't help it." Yoongi pouted, turning to look at Hoseok.
"Well, now we have to wait for the kid to figure himself out enough to change back." Hoseok folded his arms. "Hey, Jungkook. We'll do the same thing as earlier. Take whatever time you need." Hoseok smiled calmly at the bunny. His nose twitched, which Hoseok took to mean a sign of agreement. He stood up, walking away. Yoongi nodded at the rabbit and followed after Hoseok.
Yoongi felt like they'd get Jungkook to open up.
