Work Text:

If Taehyung is being completely honest, he really hadn’t thought this far ahead. He thinks he might just blame this entire situation on blacking out. Because there is just no way that he, the most level-headed and rational person he knows, would end up like this .

… Okay so maybe not the most level-headed and rational person he knows. He let a ghost tell him how to rub one out after all. The fact that he believed his shower was haunted until earlier this week probably doesn’t help his case either. But it doesn’t matter. Because now he’s locked himself in his hot neighbor’s bathroom and live-tweeting the experience, and there’s nothing Namjoon can do to convince him to leave.

Of course, that’s what Taehyung thinks. And then Namjoon starts singing. Of all things, he starts singing.

Which, in retrospect, is probably the most appropriate thing he could’ve really done here after weeks of singing duets through their shared shower wall, but it still catches Taehyung off guard. Especially because of all songs on the planet, Kim Namjoon is singing My Boo. Of All Songs. And who the fuck is Taehyung to not sing along?

“It started when we were younger, you were mine…” Namjoon sings through the locked bathroom door, and of course Taehyung has to finish the lyric.

“My boo…” he sings with his whole heart and soul, because it’s what Usher deserves.

And it goes on like that, like their old shower duets through their shared wall, except now there’s just a door between them and when Taehyung leans particularly close to that door, he can feel Namjoon’s velvety voice reverberate through the wood, and Taehyung swears he can feel zips of electricity when he brushes his fingertips across the door.

The song is almost finished now, and Taehyung is getting really into Alicia Keys’s ad-libs as the song reaches its crescendo, and he thinks that he might go insane if he has to sing at this door during the height of one of the best duets of their generation. Before he really even knows what he’s doing, he’s reaching for the doorknob, twisting it so the lock clicks open, and the door is opening and Namjoon is there and he’s rapping Usher’s final verse and Taehyung thinks he might’ve forgotten how to breathe.

Because standing there, with flushed cheeks and hair that makes him look like he just rolled out of bed, is Kim Namjoon. And it’s the first time that Taehyung actually has the chance to soak him in, because when Namjoon had shown up at his door a half hour ago, he’d been too concentrated on keeping a moderate resting heart rate to actually look at him. He’d, of course, had to regroup and reorganize his thoughts when he’d locked himself in the bathroom long enough to tweet all of the jumbled pieces in his head, but now his mind is being thrown into chaos yet again.

Because Kim Namjoon is a masterpiece. Taehyung doesn’t even officially believe in God, but he’s convinced that some kind of higher power definitely spent a little extra time on Kim Namjoon. He thinks for a moment that Namjoon was made just to prove that God exists somewhere out there.

“Hi,” Namjoon says, finally, the single word rasping from his throat like his mouth had suddenly dried up,

And Taehyung can already feel his cheeks heat up in a blush, can feel it creeping up his neck and touch his ears before rising in his cheeks where he knows he's turning a rather pretty shade of pink.

Hi," Taehyung says, like a parrot, or an idiot, or just some other kind of absolute buffoon because that's what his mind had to come up with? Hi? After locking himself in Kim Namjoon's bathroom for a half hour and the span of an Usher song?

"You have a nice bathroom," he blurts out next, and then he immediately wishes that the ground would just open up and swallow him already.

And then Namjoon smiles. Or rather, he breaks into a grin and there's a light laugh falling from his lips, and Taehyung finally, finally, realizes that he is in way over his head here.

Because then Namjoon's hand lifts from at his side, and he reaches to cup Taehyung's face, and his thumb feels like it's a hundred degrees when he drags it across Taehyung's lips, lips that fall open naturally at the gesture, and suddenly Kim Namjoon's thumb is in Taehyung's mouth and holy shit

He's sure that Namjoon's fingers can feel his pulse racing, but his eyes don't reveal much - they're trained on Taehyung's mouth, on his thumb resting between Taehyung's teeth. Namjoon's own lips have parted, an absent sort of parting, like he doesn't realize it's happened but it has and it's all Taehyung can focus on. And the thought of kissing Namjoon is running across his mind on a loop, like a skipping track on a vinyl. And Taehyung knows it'll keep skipping until he does something about it. And he has to do something about it. Because if Namjoon stares at Taehyung's mouth for even another second, he thinks he's going to combust on the spot.

There's a moment. A moment where Taehyung's hands both reach up to take Namjoon's face between them. The same moment where Taehyung nudges Namjoon's thumb out from his mouth. The same moment where he pulls Namjoon down.

And then everything moves in slow motion. Taehyung can feel Namjoon's breath fanning out across his own lips before they meet his. He can feel Namjoon's other hand rest around his waist, can feel himself pulled up against the man who is definitely not a ghost. And that's the thing. He can feel everything. His eyes have long slid shut. He can feel Namjoon against him and around him and on his lips and in his head, and Taehyung thinks that if it were possible to drown in another person, he might've drowned just then. In this moment. In this man.
