Chapter Text

Jungkook tried to blink away the drowsy thoughts from his head. Falling asleep on his desk would get him nowhere. All he’d gain from that is a sore back in the morning and an unfinished assignment and both didn’t bode well with him.

He stretched and glanced at the digital clock at the side of his wooden desk. The white numbers flashed brightly, causing him to wince slightly. “2.15...? God I don’t have much time left.” Jungkook groaned as he dragged his palm across his face slowly in hopes of getting himself awake. He didn’t have time to feel sleepy.

Why did he have to choose this course was beyond him. He didn’t have any experience in the field and he has heard many terrible, terrible stories that he would had never wanted to happen to himself. But here he his, basically living out every single story he had ever heard and possibly creating new ones for others to tell.

He shook his head and started to type furiously, looking at the computer screen through his half lidded eyes. Hopefully, with all the god’s power, he could maybe finish the assignment in time.

“Oh my god finally bless me and bless this world and bless whatever deity that has granted me this power.” He whispered out happily as he slumped across his desk as the printer started whirring, printing out his assignment. He rubbed his eyes sleepily and lazily snatched the thick stack of paper from the printer. He glanced at his watch before his sleep deprived eyes widened in horror. He only had ten minutes to hand up his assignment and he lived fifteen minutes from the campus.

Jungkook took in a deep breath before exhaling deeply. Time to put his high school training to good use. With that, he sprinted from his house all the way to the campus.

He must’ve looked stupid wearing a baggy anime sweater that was clearly far too big for him and sweatpants that he wore five days in a row. His hair was greasy and in a mess and he couldn’t say any better for his face. Staying up two days in a row could do wonders to one’s face. But heck care about how he looked. He could care about that after he handed up his assignment.

His teacher was sitting at her desk with a basket full of slightly crumpled assignments inside. He wheezed out a good morning which caused the professor to raise an eyebrow and his unsightly state. “Jungkook, you look terrible.” The professor said, eyeing him from head to toe.

Jungkook wanted to laugh. Laugh hysterically and slap the professor’s table as if it was the funniest joke on earth. He wanted to laugh and possibly punch the teacher in the face as he laughed. The professor who had made him in this state was telling him he looked terrible? The irony was shooting out of the roof.

However, Jungkook’s body couldn’t possibly fathom doing anything of that sort with his current energy level. His eye twitched and gave a sarcastic smile. “Yes professor I do look terrible.” With that, he sauntered out of the room.

He saw another student on his way out rushing towards the room in panic. Jungkook laughed bitterly. “Such naivety. She’s a minute late.” He thought sadistically as he heard the screams of defeat from the room he had just left.

He managed to make his way to his shared house with his other housemates. Yugyeom seemed like he just woke up and was making breakfast. Yugyeom looked up and gave a small choking sound as he saw Jungkook’s state. “Wow Jungkook you look like you’ve just defeated Satan.” Yugyeom commented before going back to flipping his pancakes.

Jungkook just gave a loud sigh before letting himself fall onto the couch. Jungkook replied with a gravelly voice, “Maybe I have Yugyeom, maybe I have.” Yugyeom just snorted before going back to his pancakes. Jungkook’s eyes closed almost immediately and was taken to the sweet dark abyss also known as sleep.

He was woken up by his other housemate, Mingyu. He was shaking his shoulders roughly and was close to screaming in his face. “JUNGKOOK DON’T YOU HAVE A SHIFT?” Jungkook’s eyes opened slowly and blinked in confusion. “I have a date?” Jungkook said as he laid limp in Migyu’s hands. “nO JuNgKOOK YoU hAVe a sHiFT!” Jungkook sat as still as a stone, processing the information before he shot up like an arrow.

Jungkook’s eyes widened in horror as he screamed, “MINGYU OH MY GOD WHAT TIME IS IT?” Mingyu kept silent for a while before whispering out, “Showtime.” Jungkook never wanted to strangle Mingyu more. “THIS ISN’T THE TIME FOR HAMILTON WHAT TIME???” Mingyu glanced at his watch. “4.03.” Jungkook tensed up. He could still make it. He ran past Mingyu and into his room and basically trashed his closet trying to find his work uniform.

He hastily put on his uniform before grabbing his satchel and phone before rushing out of the house. Today was a rushed day wasn’t it. His legs felt like they were ready to disintegrate and he knew that he didn’t look at all appropriate for a work environment. But who cares? It’s not like the place he worked at wasn’t shabby.

He managed to wipe his face clean with a baby wipe that he constantly kept in his bag and combed his hair with his fingers. That was all he could do to make him look like he was a broke college student and not a hobo living on the cold streets.

He managed to make it in time for work...or not. He was a minute late but hey. At least he made it. He was panting furiously and he could hear his heart beat at the speed of light, trying make up for the loss of oxygen in his body. Heejin, the girl Jungkook was working with smirked slightly when she saw his dishevelled state. “Oh my god Jungkook! What happened?” Heejin asked as she reached out to help Jungkook manage his unruly hair.

Jungkook backed away with a small hiss. “College life happened. That’s what.” Jungkook replies tiredly. Heejin gave him a look of pity before the manager came busting into the staff room. The manager looked somewhat relieved when he saw Jungkook and said quickly, “Thank god you’re here Jungkook! Heejin isn’t any help-“ “Hey!” “And the owner of this restaurant is here today. We need you to be their waiter.”

As if the day couldn’t get any more hectic, it did. Jungkook’s mind imploded and he just stared blankly at the manager. Today just wasn’t his day was it? The manager clasped his hands together nervously. “Jungkook please, this isn’t the time to self destruct you’re our best employee today...I’ll give you a pay raise!”

Jungkook shook his head rapidly and said hysterically, “I don’t need a pay raise! I’m dying inside Mr Kim and I don’t think I want to be blamed if you and I get fired!” The manager waved his hand causally. “Jungkook I believe in you now go in there and serve them.” With that he left the room.

Heejin glanced at Jungkook who was still slightly shell shocked at the news. “Hey Jungkook, you still here? Hello?” Heejin asked, snapping her fingers in front of Jungkook’s face. Jungkook buried his face in his hands and gave a long groan. “Why...why am I such a good fucking employee...” Jungkook whined, trying to tidy himself up. Heejin gasped in horror before pointing to a cheesy looking poster near the door. The poster wrote, in Comic Sans font, ‘No cursing! Make this work place a good place!’ With a picture of a former employee giving a thumbs up.

Jungkook and Heejin left the staff room and was met with the familiar sight of the restaurant. It wasn’t like a normal restaurant. Normal restaurants had tables and chairs lined up in rows. And the tables could vary to accommodate different amounts of people. However, in this restaurant, everything was in a room. Soundproof rooms where only the people that had booked the room and the waiter could enter.

Apparently it wasn’t a well known restaurant area. Not many people have heard of it but Jungkook had seen so many people walk in and out, he wonders how this place wasn’t famous.

If Jungkook didn’t know any better, he’d think this was a place where drugs were being sold. I mean he didn’t know any better but he highly doubted that a place like this would have any illegal activity going on. He was a regular student who tried to keep afloat in an ocean we call life and nothing was more normal than that and no sane person would hire such an innocent person as a waiter in a place full of illegal activity.

He went to the very last room where he was told his customers were. A small buzzer was placed at the entrance to notify whoever was inside that he was there to take their order. The buzzer made a soft sound before Jungkook was met with silence once again. The door opened slowly to reveal ten men sitting around a table full of paper.

Six of the men were wearing what seemed to be expensive as heck tailored suits. He started to compare their suits to his suit that he had bought from a garage sale ten years ago which made him feel more pathetic under the six men’s gaze. Damn, their hair was gelled to perfection. They were the literal meaning of sex on legs...if they weren’t glaring at him as if he had intruded in their business.

The four other men just looked slightly out of place when compared to the six men. Their suits, weren’t the best but still good. They wore an angry expression and they seemed pretty shaggy.

Jungkook shook away his thoughts before putting up his best faux smile that he could muster. After all, it was the bosses of his boss that controlled whether he might have a job or not in the future. “Hi, my name is Jungkook and I’ll be your waiter for today. May I take your order?” He said in his most polite voice. He continued to smile, hoping that he wasn’t showing off his bunny teeth to them. God how he hated them.

One of the men who had lavender hair took the menu and said, “We’ll have the braised chicken and some stir fried vegetables.” It seemed to Jungkook that he was just reading off whatever he saw first on the menu. As if they didn’t really come here to eat. Jungkook quickly took it down and asked, “Is that all? How about drinks?” The man shook his head and said, “No thank you. We’re done here. You may leave now.” Jungkook bowed and took his leave.

He made his way to the kitchen, staring at the other customers, clad in the usual suits, leaving with briefcases and satisfied smiles. He made his way to the kitchen and gave the order to the cook, Jihoon who was a short mess. God knows how he became a chef when he couldn’t even reach of the pepper on top of the shelf.

“Yo Jihoon we got some orders.” Jungkook said, slapping the white piece of paper with Jungkook’s bad handwriting on it. Jihoon took the paper and squinted, trying to make out what Jungkook had written. “God, you need to work on your handwriting.” Jihoon said as he made his way to the kitchen to do the order. Jungkook snorted before going off to other rooms to take their orders.

It was finally time for Jungkook to enter the room once again, except with food in his arms. He felt a small chill run up his spine. Was it like his own spidey sense? He felt sort of cool thinking about it but then realised how much of a nerd he was that he was thinking about it.

It seemed like a terrible idea to enter the room and the time. It was as if somebody was screaming at him to not enter the room. How he wished he had listened to that voice. He pressed the buzzer before the door opened slowly and was greeted with shouting and gunshots?

“-THE WAITER FUCK GET HIM AWA-“ A voice screamed before a bang was heard and Jungkook’s eyes widened to the bloody scene in front of him. The man with the lavender hair holding a gun, clearly having shot the man in front of him. The shot man was slumped on the wall, smearing blood all over the white pristine walls as his body fell.

Jungkook couldn’t say anything. Nothing could have prepared him for this moment and the dishes he was carrying clattered onto the ground. Suddenly, a blaring sound echoed through the restaurant and a voice could be heard through the PA system. “This is the manager. We have a problem and therefore lockdown mode will be carried out.”

Jungkook’s breathing rate increased rapidly. What was going on? Who are these people? Where’s Heejin?

He got shoved aside by the four men who he was serving just now and he fell onto the ground in shock. He had to get away. He shook his head before starting to run off, trying to find Heejin and a way to escape the restaurant.

He saw Heejin in a corner of the restaurant, looking distraught and confused as the gunshots and the loud blaring sounds rang through the restaurant. People were shooting each other and it was basically a bloodbath.

He grabbed Heejin by the wrist which caused her to scream before she realised it was Jungkook. “J-jungkook?? What’s going on?” Jungkook had tears in his eyes too, he didn’t know. He didn’t want to know. “I don’t know. Let’s just get out of here.” Heejin nodded before they started to weave through falling bodies.

They saw the exit but there were shutters going down. Heejin glanced behind them and screamed, “oH MY GOD JUNGKOOK THERE’S PEOPLE FOLLOWING US.” Jungkook tried to keep calm practically dragged Heejin towards the exit.

Before they reached the exit, Jungkook slipped on a puddle of blood and caused him to slip along with Heejin. He groaned and stood up quickly pulling Heejin up with him. There wasn’t time to check for injuries.

Before they managed to get to the exit, one of the six men managed to grab onto Heejin‘s hair. Heejin glared at the man and screamed out, “HAHAHA BITCH YOU THOUGHT? THIS IS A WIG!” Jungkook would’ve laughed if it wasn’t Heejin’s and his life at stake. With that, Heejin’s apparent wig came off and her naked head bathed in the natural moonlight as they made their way out.

Jungkook breathed a sigh of relief as he felt the cool night Breeze against his face. He never thought he’d feel so Glad to be outside, considering the fact that he stays indoors ninety percent of the time. He looked at Heejin and said, as if they didn’t just nearly escape their death, “Whats up with the wig?” Heejin was about to reply when suddenly air was knocked out of his system.

He could hear the muffled screaming of Heejin and unfamiliar voices. “Shit dude he’s the waiter! Is your eyesight that bad?” One voice said. Jungkook tried to sit up only to be pushed down harshly. “Stay down.” A Low voice whispered in his ear. Jungkook gulped, helpless, only able to hear the conversation happening beside him. “Well I’m sorry I didn’t know. But hey we can keep him right? Since we caught him already? He’s kinda cute-“ “NO.” The man whined and Jungkook prayed that the man wouldn’t give up and proceed to kidnap him.

Unfortunately, that was exactly what happened. The man finally gave in and they knocked him unconscious. The last thing Jungkook thought about before he succumbed to the darkness was about how upset he was when he realised he didn’t know why Heejin wore a wig.
