Work Text:
“And last but not least, the outro,” Namjoon said to the camera, pressing play on the keyboard of his computer and listening to the song for a few seconds, slightly swaying to the beat as he sat on his desk chair. “We are under the same label but it had been a while since Jungkook was featured in one of my songs, and I thought his voice could perfectly capture the message of this one, so I was really glad he accepted to collab for my new album.”
Namjoon let the song play as he came close to the screen of the phone he used for v live broadcasts so he could read some comments and questions from viewers.
“How was it working with Jungkookie? Well, I’ve known him since he was a shy fifteen year old trainee and I’ve watched him grow into this amazing singer and performer, so I’m really thankful to him for bringing his passion and his energy into the last track to end the album on a high note.”
He leaned in again, this time using a finger to scroll through the messages left by fans.
“I love you, I love you too! Where are you? Ah, yes, I forgot to say this before I started the album review, but tonight I am in my new home studio. When I work on music I still do it mainly at Mon Studio in our company building, but sometimes I work from home. Since, well, you know, things have changed a little bit.”
Namjoon decided to ignore the are you blushing and why so shy and omg cute comments on his live broadcast.
“Are there hidden vocals in the outro? The voice doesn’t sound familiar,” Namjoon laughed. “Yes there are, during Jungkook’s chorus. Wow you guys are good. I bet you would never guess who it is, though.” He read some of the replies. “Hmm, I’ll give you a hint. This person had some training in singing and dancing before becoming a full time actor.”
Namjoon’s phone beeped with a notification, and he reached for it across the desk, momentarily diverting his attention from the camera to the message on the screen. “Seokjin just texted me,” he said with a smile, locking the device and putting it down, “to say that he is coming over because he should be the one telling this behind story,” he chuckled, but then his eyes opened big in realization. “Oh, did I just give away who it was?”
“You did,” Seokjin said, trying to hide his laughter as he opened the door to Namjoon’s studio and walked up to him, setting his phone on the desk and turning off the broadcast playing live from it. “Hi, everyone,” he waved, placing his other arm on the headrest of Namjoon’s chair. “I am crashing Namjoon’s v live because I’ve been tricked and the truth needs to be known,” he added, sounding equal parts playful and genuinely offended, and Namjoon chuckled nervously.
“Would you like me to go bring a chair for you?” he offered as a distraction, looking both ways behind him and moving to stand up, interrupted when the weight of a person dropped on his thighs and Namjoon could see out of the corner of his eye that the comments appearing on the screen of the v live phone doubled in speed and volume.
“No need,” Seokjin replied, making himself comfortable before looking at Namjoon, who was glancing at the camera in slight disbelief. “We are married now, Namjoon, I believe I have the right to sit on your lap.”
Namjoon blinked. “I know, it’s just, there’s thousands of people watching, so, yeah, no big deal,” he stuttered, wrapping his arms around Seokjin’s waist, who gave him one of those looks that told him he was going to have fun with this.
“Besides,” Seokjin added, smirking, “we’ve done worse things on this chai–”
“So Seokjin is here to tell the story of the outro’s background vocals, everyone,” Namjoon said as quickly as he could, not allowing him to finish the sentence, and Seokjin smiled triumphantly at his red face before looking upfront.
“I am,” he agreed, making sure he was sat in a way that didn’t hide Namjoon from the camera. “So, a while ago, Jungkook couldn’t record the outro’s chorus guide because he was away on a schedule,” he started, “and I happened to be visiting Namjoon’s studio that day. He jokingly asked me if I wanted to give it a try, and I jokingly said yes, and thirty minutes later there were several recordings of me singing the chorus of the outro among Namjoon’s computer files. All fun and games up to this point, right, Joon?” he said, looking at him pointedly.
“You did such a great job,” Namjoon mumbled against his shoulder to justify himself. “I couldn’t not use those recordings somehow.”
“Three weeks before its release,” Seokjin continued, ignoring Namjoon’s guilty pout, “Namjoon sends me a playlist with the final version of all the songs on the album, because yes, husbands get to hear their spouses’ new music before anyone else, we are that lucky,” Namjoon snorted quietly, “and when I listen to the last track, which is amazing, by the way, like the rest of the album, I find out Namjoon had the nerve to use one of my recordings for background vocals without my explicit consent!” Seokjin paused for effect, Namjoon hid behind him with his forehead pressed to Seokjin’s shoulder, groaning. “So I am using this public platform to announce that I considered taking legal actions against Big Hit’s rapper RM,” he exaggerated, trying to make sure his complaint was not taken that seriously, “but discussions were had and the matter was amiably settled out of court,” he concluded. “You should expect Namjoon to make a cringe-worthy cameo in a drama I’ll be on sometime in the future.”
“It’s only fair,” Namjoon sighed. “But you were great! Maybe next time I’ll get you to properly feature in one of the tracks.”
“And how are you going to do that?” Seokjin scoffed amusedly, looking at him. “I’m an actor, not a singer,” he added.
Namjoon seemed to think about it for a moment. “With my irresistible charm and good looks?” he asked playfully.
Seokjin laughed. “That sounds like it should be my line.”
“Well,” Namjoon’s expression turned serious, and his hold on Seokjin’s torso appeared to tighten a little. “I got the nation’s son-in-law to marry me, I think I might be able to convince him to sing for my next album, Jin,” he said, voice pitched low as he looked straight at him.
“You are such a brat,” Seokjin replied after a beat of silence, blushing just enough for the tips of his ears to turn red. He faced the camera and leaned towards the phone’s screen. “Oh, there are about a hundred thousand viewers now!” he said excitedly, watching the messages pour in. “A lot of hearts in the comments… What is a namjin and why is it killing you?” he asked after reading some of them.
Namjoon’s phone beeped loudly and he reached for it to unlock the screen and see the new text he’d just gotten a notification for. “Jimin says he’ll explain it to us later,” he read out loud before his phone beeped again. “And he’s looking forward to all the gifs. Whatever that means.”
Seokjin nodded, still looking at the comments. “Someone asked If you can be my guest the next time I do an EatJin. Make it a newlywed edition.”
Namjoon chuckled. “Why not? But it’s up to you, it’s your show.”
Seokjin hummed. “What if it is up to them? If this v live video gets a billion and a half hearts, we’ll do an EatJin broadcast together.”
“Isn’t a billion and a half a lot of hearts, though?” Namjoon wondered.
“Not my problem now,” Seokjin answered with a smile to the camera, just as Namjoon’s phone beeped for the third time and he grabbed it to read the latest text message he’d received.
“According to Jimin you are underestimating the power of fans’ love for the Kim Kim couple,” Namjoon told him, smiling a little at the nickname the media had given them.
“Well, the Kim Kim couple has dinner plans that they should start getting ready for,” Seokjin said, standing up and grabbing his phone from the desk, lightly turning Namjoon’s chair towards him with a hand on the armrest.
“I’ll wrap up in about five minutes,” Namjoon replied, “after answering a few more questions about the album.”
“Okay,” Seokjin said as he looked at him, and just like any other time they had to say goodbye to each other, even for a little while, he leaned in and gave Namjoon a quick peck on the lips, which Namjoon reciprocated organically, like no one was watching.
Except there were about a hundred thousand viewers tuned in to Namjoon’s v live and they both blanked, staring at each other and then the camera, both beginning to feel a blush creeping up their cheeks.
“Consider that motivation,” Seokjin said, cherry red, before heading out of Namjoon’s home studio, waving a “bye, everyone” before closing the door.
Namjoon’s phone started beeping like crazy and he quickly put it in silence mode, ignoring Jimin’s multiple oh my god you guys kissed on camera texts and clearing his throat.
“So, yeah, I’ll answer three more questions before ending this album behind,” he said, scrolling through the new comments on the screen of the v live phone, past several are any of the songs in the album inspired by Seokjin? type of questions and he just felt his cheeks burn even more.
