Midoriya Izuku's life was certainly something else.
He had a mother that loved him like nothing else, a father that Izuku hasn't seen since the age of four, no friends and a childhood friend turned bully who torments him everyday for his quirklessness and uselessness.
Even with all this (and we can debate on the fact if this lifestyle is healthy), he felt like he was missing something. Something very important that he'd forgotten.
He would sometimes see a weirdly-blurred smiling face (a boy?) with black short hair and would hear him laughing and in his ears, it was the most beautiful thing he'd ever heard in his entire life. But he had no idea where that could be coming from.
