Chapter 1: Prologue (01)

Chapter Text

Taehyung's always had a soft spot for animals. From the numerous cats he would see around his grandparents' farm as a kid to yeontan, he could say he always had some type of pet around. But his schedule got busier and he could already only see Yeontan a few times a month. After all, taking care of a pet was a time and energy consuming task, both of which he tried his best to divide between practice, events and shootings. Also, they had some lengthy tours planned and he wouldn't see the little dog for quite some time. Overall, Taehyung was missing him.
He couldn't help it, this park full of dogs happily playing with their owners made it impossible not to think about. If it wasn't for Namjoon and his need to visit every city they went to, he could be miserable in his bed right now, instead of outside. But, he wasn't fully displeased, the park was after all as beautiful as it was praised to be and he had taken a good deal of nice shots. Yet, as he stopped besides a colorful pond full with glistening fish, his empty hotel room came to mind. It was so lonely without Yeontan running from one corner to another. He was almost as fast as these fish. Oh, wait, fish!
He could get a fish! Sure, they weren't fluffy and you couldn't really pet them, or do anything with them for that matter. But at least he wouldn't be alone. And they weren't hard to take care of. He could even carry his fish on the plane, right? It's not like it would be very noisy or too playful. A little familiar company overseas would be well received. His hotel room wouldn't be so empty either. Yeah, he should get a fish as soon as he got home.

You were having one of the most miserable times of your life. Not even now, hours after the incident, can you understand how could you have been so foolish. A pet shop. You had ended up in an actual pet shop. Incredible.
To be fair, being a modern nymph is nothing short of hard. You can't really live in the depths of the forest surrounded by peace and other mythical creatures as your ancestors did. You don't even live near a forest. There are few forests in a bustling city like Seoul. Only one, really, and it's just a very big park. A nice park, indeed, but not quite a forest. Therefore, you lived even pretty far from the park, in a small apartment that didn't resemble a sunny meadow at all. And sometimes, getting "nature's call", you would rush pretty much without thinking to the nearest water source and diving in. Except, this time you didn't even do that and you still got caught. You were cautious. You had found a nice, secluded little park that was visited rarely during the week and you had spent some days there. Thing is, being a water nymph, that wasn't enough. Of course you had taken on your fish form and dove into one of the ponds at your disposal. After all, there had to be more fish, right? You would just mingle and nobody would notice anything out of the usual.
There were. Tons of them. You swam until you found them, in one of the more crowded parts of the park. Tons of orange and white koi fish among which your violet scales could not camouflage in at all. And, in a moment of careless distraction, the caretaker of the fish had gotten a hold of you. Well, that was trouble.

And that's how you managed to get caught in an aquarium. With normal fish. You had checked, none of them were another miserable nayad. That was no surprise though, you rarely met another. Much less in this kind of place. You actually knew this pet shop, it was the fancy one close to the rich area of Seoul. Not like you came here often, you definetely didn't live close. But, sometimes, you would pass by with your college girlfriends. Oh, what good times, when you weren't the one possible customers looked at. And even then, you didn't really look at fish. You were mostly petting the fluffy rabbits.
Oh. well, it was settled. You'd probably grow old here. Who even likes fish? Maybe people with impressive aquariums who buy a lot of the same species so they can have little fish babies. As you sneak a glance to the clownfish next to you, swimming without a care in the world, you decide: you would be happier if someone fished you up right now and served you fried with pickled onions. After all, what kind of rich person buys one tiny violet fish?

Taehyung could easily be labelled as an excentric and he understood why. Not that he had a problem with it, honestly he kind of liked it. And yeah, sure, he might seem a little vain, with his designer clothes and Gucci loafers on, heading to the pet shop. But, really, he was just enjoying the privileges his Idol life, for which he and BTS worked very hard, mind you, gave him. And yeah, Gucci loafers were one of his quilty pleasures. What about that? However, he wasn't one of those people who would just buy the most expensive anything just because they could. He bought what he liked. And, striding by the aquariums in the shop, studying them carefully, he decided he liked one tiny violet fish.
