Work Text:

Every day you watch Eunbi from afar. You couldn’t help it she was so beautiful and sweet and selfless but you were way too shy to ever talk to her. So you watched her. It wasn’t creepy, honest, it was only if she was in the same room with you, you didn’t follow her around like a crazy person. You guys shared math and English as well as the same lunchtime and even joined some of the same clubs. So you were bound to bump into her and when she laughed all eyes were on her anyway. In all your time spent watching Eunbi you couldn’t help but notice that others watched her too. A boy from maths never took his eyes off of her for most of the period, the girl who ran the photography club let the shortie do whatever she wanted because she was so smitten, and sometimes you even caught one of your friends following the Eunbi with their eyes. At these times you were filled with baseless jealousy and a sort of sadness because you knew you’d never be even friends with her let alone something more.

That’s why on Thursday when Eunbi plopped down in the seat in front of you during the photography club, you were more than a little surprised. You look up from the book you had open in front of you. “Uh, hi.” You say shyly.

“Hi!” She says cheerily pushing a few strands over her hair out of her face. Your breath caught in your throat as you looked at her. She was so beautiful and literally breathtaking. “I love your photos.” She tells you. “And we’ve never really talked much, so I thought that today should be the day.”

“Oh..” You said dumbly. “I mean, yeah of course. I love your work too. We should talk about photography.” You sounded awkward and almost robotic but you didn’t know how to act around someone so beautiful and kind. But Eunbi laughs sweetly, your heart flutters and you blush.

You and Eunbi talk about photography for a good portion of the club time but you easily slip into conversations about your friends, family, school work, music and much more. You find that you guys share the same music taste and struggle with the opposite classes so you offer to tutor each other. You also notice that Eunbi laughs a lot, even at all the dumb little things you say that probably aren’t even funny. It makes you wonder if she’s just being nice, if she really thinks you’re funny, or is she laughing, possibly, because she has a crush on you. You think the last one is too much to hope for a file it away not allowing yourself to think about it again.

“I had fun today.” Eunbi says at the end the club time. “You should give me your number so we talk more.”

“Oh, okay.” You nod and take her phone when she offers it. You put in your name and number then hand it back to her.

“I’ll text you tonight.” You nod and watched her leave the room trying to keep dreamy expression from showing too much.

You and Eunbi text all night, you even stay up an hour later than you usually allow yourself just to talk to her. You guys cover topics ranging from fashion, to food, to parents and friends, celebrities, and finally, you end up exchanging memes into the night. The next day you’re a little more tired than you usually are, which is saying something because you were usually pretty damn tired to begin with, but you’re happier for it.

“Ah! My new friend!” You look up at the sound of Eunbi’s sweet voice. She breaks away from her friends, Sowon and Yerin, hopping over to you.

“Oh, hi.” You blush slightly as she links her arm through yours, you weren’t sure how to act around her.

“I had fun talking to you last night. You had way funnier memes than I did.” Eunbi says as the two of you walk together.

“I’m a bit of a loser.” You explain. “I have a lot of time to collect memes.”

“Well, now you’re going to have to squeeze meme collecting time in between spending time with me.” She says firmly.

“I suppose so.” You say with a chuckle, she grins up at you sweetly.

“My class is here.” You say, stopping.

“Okay. I’ll see you later!” Eunbi says, waving enthusiastically before skipping off down the hallway.

Other than seeing and talking to Eunbi your day goes by pretty normally. You go to each other of your classes, you talk to your friends, you take notes, and turn in homework. Until the power goes out.

You’re sitting at lunch when it happens, your reading and eating your friends chatting beside you. Then suddenly there was a loud clicking sound before the lights (and everything else) went out, winding down slowly. Everyone fell silent for a moment the wind whipping past the building ominously. Then the chatter started. Some people checking their phone batteries others saying it must be an apocalypse just to scare other students. It doesn’t take long before someone comes in and calls for all students and staff to report to the gym.

You gather your things and follow everyone out of the lunchroom and over to the gym. Once there you find a seat on the bleachers and go back to reading your book. It takes a good twenty minutes for staff to come in and get everyone settled. Once they do you finally put down your book to listen to them.

“Because of some harsh winds, the whole grid is down. We need you all to stay with staff in here, the cafeteria, or the library until your parents can come and check you out or until three o’clock when we are allowed to release you all. If you do stay until then and you take the bus home they will still be available for you.” The principal explains. Groans fill the room on one listening to him any longer as they start to contact their parents

You find yourself sitting in the library, not many other people went there to begin with and you liked the big windows that looked out into the garden just below. You sat in the window the cold harsh winds whipping past you but unable to reach you. You watch as small white flakes of snow start to spin past barely able to land from the force of the wind driving them.

“I’ve been looking for you all over.” You turn and see Eunbi standing there, smiling softly at you and tucking her hair behind her ear.

“Oh, sorry.” You grab your phone to see the missed messages. “It’s on mute.”

“It’s okay, I’ve found you haven’t I?” She walks up to you and taps your legs. “Move.” You move your legs to the side and she sits down across from you. “It’s cold here.” She says, wrapping her arms around herself.

` “Sorry.” You say, grabbing your school cardigan from your backpack and hand it to her, she wraps it around herself and smiles up at you.

“Thank you.” She beams and touches your knee softly, making you blush. “Are your parents coming?” You shake your head.

“Work.” You say simply, she nods.

“I’m lucky, my mom is getting out early and she said she’d come by in a few minutes.” Eunbi explains. “But I wanted to see you before I left.”

“Me?” You ask in surprise, your eyebrows shooting up. Eunbi giggles cutely at your reaction and nods. “Why?”

“Because.” Eunbi says, leaning closer. “I like you, and I think snow is really romantic, don’t you? I was gonna take you to the windows by the stairs and tell you there because I wanted the effect of the snow, but you picked the perfect place.” She whispers, your cheeks and neck are bright red and you aren’t sure what to do. You can’t believe what you’re hearing. Eunbi leans in and presses a chaste kiss to your lips before pulling back and skipping away. “I’ll see you tomorrow, and I’ll text you tonight!” She calls as she leaves the library. As you watch her go you realize she still has your cardigan, but you don’t really mind.
