exhausted (rewrite)

Summary:

It's so so tiring, you know?

Notes:

This was just me playing around with this prompt I saw that made me laugh. This was fun to write though!

Edit: rewriting all my posts on tumblr, and finally updating my ao3!

Work Text:

“Lena, baby, come on.” You call out from your place on her couch. “You said you’d eat with me 10 minutes ago.”

“I just need to reply to this email, Y/N/N, and I’ll be right with you,” was the response you got from your girlfriend.

You huffed quietly and pouted your lips, leaning against the couch as you watched as your girlfriend diligently type away on her laptop. The sound of her fingers tapping against the keys filled the room, and as much as you loved how hard working Lena was, you knew that she often forgot that she was just as human as you were and needed to eat to keep herself nourished and awake enough to keep going.

Deciding that enough was enough for now, you stand from your place on the couch. Slowly stalking over to her office chair, you rest your hand on her shoulder. Watching as she sent off an email, you smiled when she leaned into your touch with a sigh.

“Baby, Jess told me you’ve been working non-stop since you got in. And knowing you as well as I do, you probably haven’t even thought about taking break anytime soon.” You spoke, breaking the silence that had fallen over the room as Lena turned her head to look up at you, bright emerald eyes meeting your own.

“That’s because I need to have this finished before—“

“Before your meeting with those investors. I know, love.”

Lena only smiled sheepishly at your words. She knew you were right. She hadn’t taken a single break since she got to work, with was coincidently the same time you did — considering the both of you worked in the same building, with you working just a few floors under her.

You both worked hard, but more often than not it was you who had to remind her that she needed to eat, to drink more water, and to take a break every now and then because how can the CEO function on less than two hours of sleep, Lena?

“Lunch?” She asked.

You nodded, a smile on your face now that she was finally agreeing to take a breather. “Lunch.”

You held out your hand, which she gladly took, immediately lacing your fingers together. Even after months of being together, the simple act of holding your hand brought her so much joy, letting her know that you were here with her and you were here to stay.

You guide her back to the couch, making sure that your girlfriend was seated comfortably with a takeaway box from Noonan’s in her hands before you taking a seat beside her.

While the two of you ate, you took turns sharing how your mornings had been so far. You told her about the progress you and your team had made with your latest project and Lena told you about the meetings she had earlier that morning.

It helped plenty that your girlfriend, and technically your boss, worked in the same building as you, making having lunch together a daily routine between the two of you.

Leaning back on the couch after all the food had been eaten, you raised a hand to your mouth in attempt to stifle a yawn, catching Lena looking at you with her knowing smirk.

“Being so beautiful all the time must be tiring, wouldn’t you say?”

You could only tilt your head in response, returning her smirk with one of your own.

“Well then you, Lena Luthor, must be exhausted.”

With your retort, you couldn’t stop the laugh that bubbled out of your chest at the deep blush that was slowly but surely making its way onto Lena’s cheeks as she stared at you in shock.

“Y/N!”
