Work Text:
“In one or two words, describe you and Hoseok’s relationship,” an interviewer asked Jimin once. He pursed his lips and turned his head to stare at Hoseok who grinned widely.
Jimin had too many thoughts. Best friends. Roommates. Dance Partners.
“Fond,” he said casually.
Hoseok let out a ‘wahhh, perfect’ as he raised his hand up to high five Jimin. The younger mimicked his actions with a laugh.
“Okay, now Hoseok, describe…” while the interviewer trailed off into asking the other members the same question in a relay, Jimin couldn’t help but dwell on his answer. ‘Fond’ was so cheesy but Jimin felt like no other word could be more appropriate. He glanced at Hoseok again and couldn’t hold back a smile.
At the end of their interview, they were to head back to Big Hit for dance practice.
“And one, two, three,” Hoseok said loudly, “Jimin, turn your heel more. Taehyung left foot up,” he added as he danced along to the song. Jimin couldn’t help but think about how cool his Hyung always was when he had to take charge of dance practice. “Jimin, focus!” Hoseok suddenly said and Jimin shook such thoughts out of his head and did as he was told.
It was a long practice but a good one. Jimin genuinely felt like they improved as a whole.
After the couple hours of dancing, they gathered to discuss different aspects of the concert and once they finalised some decisions, the members departed to do their own thing, all except Jimin and Hoseok, who normally stayed behind with the choreographer to work on any issues in the choreography and how to improve it all. They normally went through it quickly but sometimes one of them would suggest they practice other dances afterwards.
“Thanks, Hyung,” Jimin said after about half an hour and the choreographer had already left.
“Let me guess, you still want to practice?”
“Actually, I was going to ask if you wanted to go back early this time,” he said and Hoseok grinned. “We can watch a movie before bed?”
“Sure,” the older responded and Jimin smiled widely.
When they were home and newly showered, the pair were snuggled in their own beds, only the lamp in between them on while a movie played on the TV in front of them. It was one that Namjoon suggested: “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”
It appeared both members couldn’t contain a few ‘wahhh’s and softly whispered ‘cute’s throughout the film.
“So good,” Hoseok proclaimed over and over as he turned off the TV and then proceeded to talk about the film. What he didn’t notice was Jimin started to drift off into sleep, eyes barely open.
Eventually, after a long silence from Jimin, the older stood up and leaned over his bed.
“Jimin? Are you sleep?” Hoseok said and Jimin opened his eyes and looked up. He blinked once. Twice.
“Hyung?”
“Yah, pay attention to me,” the older whined and Jimin furrowed his brows.
“Sorry.”
“I’m just kidding, Jimin-ah,” Hoseok said with a smile and Jimin didn’t know if it was exhaustion taking over but he’s pretty sure his Hyung was glowing. “You’ve worked hard today!”
“Thanks, Hyung,” Jimin mumbled and Hoseok rested a hand on his cheek.
“You’re so cute when you’re sleepy,” he cooed and Jimin scrunched his face up in contempt. Hoseok leaned down and kissed the other’s temple. “So cute,” he whispered and Jimin smiled.
“Hyung,” he whined but his eyes were already closed. Hoseok cooed.
“Good night, baby,” the older said casually before he moved away from the other’s bed and turned off the lamp. He missed the way Jimin opened his eyes and stared after him.
Jimin watched as Hoseok got into his own bed and buried himself underneath the blanket.
Baby
The word echoed in Jimin’s mind. He could feel his heart beat quicken as he continued to stare at Hoseok’s figure under the covers.
Good night, baby.
Jimin felt his cheeks heat up and his insides felt about ready to explode.
‘How can he just say something like that and expect me to just sleep?!’ was his thought as he watched the other start to snore lightly.
Jimin let out a breath and cupped his own face in an effort to try to calm himself down.
Baby
Jimin pulled his own covers over his head and tried very hard not to think about how much he liked the idea of Hoseok using such a pet name for him.
Keyword: tried.
He was probably more tired than he thought because he had no idea how he managed to fall asleep after what happened. He woke up with a loud yawn and stretch before he turned his head and found Hoseok still asleep and facing him.
Memories of the night before came to mind and he felt his cheeks redden again. He quickly made his way out of bed and wondered if he didn’t acknowledge the entire thing then the butterflies in his stomach would go away. Just as he was about to leave the room, Hoseok mumbled something and Jimin turned back and found the other gradually waking up.
“Where are you going?” Hoseok said as he stretched out in his bed.
“Food,” Jimin said simply and Hoseok sighed.
“Okay,” he said before he closed his eyes and tried to snuggle back into his blankets. His voice was low and raspy and Jimin couldn’t help but imagine the older saying the one word he tried not to think about in said voice:
Baby
Jimin widened his eyes. He inwardly cursed himself before he rushed out of the room.
The rest of the day consisted of Jimin successfully chasing such thoughts out of his head as he focused purely on work. He still got flustered around Hoseok, but he was always flustered around Hoseok. It was a normal amount of flustered.
That is until, Hoseok slipped the word out again. Only that time, Jimin didn’t have anywhere to hide.
They were in the middle of doing a photo shoot when they decided to take a break and touch up their faces. They mostly spent it taking photos of themselves or each other.
“Yes, that’s good!” Hoseok teased as he took a photo of Jimin, who was posing wildly for the camera. The others laughed at the scene and Hoseok giggled as Jimin threw in another nonsensical pose. “That’s right, Jimin,” he said as he bent down and took different angled shots, “Jimin, baby,” he said and Jimin lost his footing as he leaned forward.
“Woah,” Hoseok said as he quickly stood up and stopped the other from falling over. “Careful.”
Jimin pursed his lips. There it was again. It wasn’t just the word though. His name too.
Jimin baby
“I’m fine,” he said quickly as he stood up. Hoseok looked at him and Jimin could feel his entire body flush. It’s like his chest tightened.
This was going to be a problem.
Luckily, the photoshoot started again and Jimin could somewhat relax and focus on something else to do.
“Jimin, I think you have too much blush on,” the photographer said casually and Jimin tried not to fumble his words as he called for makeup.
It took him about 20 minutes after the photoshoot to admit he needed to talk to someone about it.
“Can you call me baby?” he said suddenly to a very confused looking Taehyung when the two were left alone in the dressing room.
A beat of silence.
“What?”
“Just do it,” he said intently as he narrowed his eyes at his friend.
“Uh,” Taehyung looked around, “Baby?”
“Properly!”
“Hey, Jimin, baby,” Taehyung said with a smirk and Jimin couldn’t help but laugh.
“What?”
“Baby’s a cute word,” he admitted as though he had just reached an epiphany about himself.
“Please don’t ask me to start calling you baby.”
“I’m not! I just,” he paused, “I guess I really like it when someone calls me baby.”
“What?”
“I mean, it’s nice from other people but when Hobi Hyung says it, I guess I-” he looked up and cut himself off when he noticed the surprised expression on the other’s face.
“Hobi-hyung calls you baby?” Taehyung said and Jimin covered his face with his hands.
“Only a few times.” Twice.
“And you really liked it?” he asked and Jimin nodded.
“Cute.”
“Shut up,” Jimin said as he tried to hide more of his face.
Jimin then learned the mistake of telling Taehyung.
“He likes it when people call him baby,” Taehyung said blatantly in the middle of him, Hoseok and Jimin eating dinner. Jimin nearly choked on his drink.
“Oh really?” Hoseok said excitedly while Jimin tried to compose himself. “Cute,” he said, and Taehyung said he said the same thing.
Jimin didn’t hesitate to kick Taehyung under the table, who whined endlessly about the pain. Hoseok looked between the pair in confusion but shrugged it off when neither spoke about it.
That night, Jimin had never felt more personally attacked in his life.
“C’mon, baby, let’s sleep,” Hoseok said as they were getting ready for bed. Jimin widened his eyes and pursed his lips before he quickly rushed to his bed and pulled the covers over himself.
“Baby are you that tired?” Hoseok teased and Jimin was certain he looked about as red as a tomato.
“Stop it,” Jimin mumbled and Hoseok walked over and pulled the blanket off of him.
“What’s wrong, baby?” he said and Jimin covered his face.
“It’s too much.”
“What is?” Hoseok said, genuine concern now, his eyebrows furrowed as he watched Jimin grab a pillow and cover his face.
“Baby,” Jimin muffled into the pillow. Hoseok tilted his head.
“What?” he asked as he leaned down in confusion.
“Baby,” Jimin whispered and Hoseok sighed.
“Jimin, I can’t hear-“
“Baby!” he said loudly as he sat up. They both stared at each other in surprise. Jimin quickly covered his mouth and Hoseok looked taken aback.
Silence.
“Please, say something,” Jimin said quickly as he pulled his knees to his chest and buried his head into it. “This is so embarrassing.”
“You don’t like it when people call you baby?” Hoseok asked as he shuffled closer so that he was sat right in front of the younger.
“That’s not it,” he whined, still refusing to look up again.
“Then you do like people calling you baby?”
“I like when Hyung calls me baby,” Jimin admitted and he swore if his heart could jump out of its chest, it probably would.
“Oh.”
Another beat of silence.
“Okay,” Hoseok started. Jimin felt the bed move and he instantly regretted ever opening his mouth.
Oh God, he thinks I’m weird. He’s never going to speak to me again. He’ll want to move out and-
“Do you want to snuggle tonight, baby?” Hoseok said with a wide smile. Jimin looked up and he confirmed that Hoseok definitely glowed when he smiled.
“You don’t think it’s weird?”
“No,” Hoseok said as he knelt down in front of him and cupped his face. ” Definitely not weird,” he continued, “Like I said before, cute.”
Hoseok smirked before he spoke again.
“You’re cute, baby.”
Jimin bit his lip before he covered his face with his hands.
“I take it back. I don’t like it,” he said quickly, “My heart can’t live like this,” he added and Hoseok laughed before he took hold of the younger’s wrists and pulled them away from his face.
“You’re really cute,” Hoseok admitted and just as Jimin looked up, the older leaned down.
“Wait,” Jimin said as their noses barely touched, “I’m-What are you-“
“Can I kiss you?”
Jimin didn’t bother answering and simply leaned forward and pressed their lips together.
Hoseok smiled into the kiss before he released Jimin’s wrists and wrapped his arms around the other’s waist. Jimin wrapped his arms around Hoseok’s shoulders as they pulled away.
They shared a smile.
The day after, Hoseok didn’t hesitate to call Jimin baby any chance he could get. The others raised eyebrows at them and Hoseok ignored them but Jimin didn’t even notice since he was too busy trying to keep himself from smiling too wide and covering his face every time Hoseok said anything to him.
