Notes:

This is my first ever oneshot, so please enjoy my terrible writing and grammar.

Also in no way am I romanticizing suicide, or depression. Just putting that out there, I mean no disrespect with the words I have written.

Work Text:

Majority of the doctors and patients on the ward already knew of the situation, and because of that nobody tried to stop and question the sad man. With hooded eyes, and hunched shoulders, Yoongi quickly made his way down the ward. Doctors and nurses both moved to the side and gave sad looks to the soon-to-be grieving man.

From the many times he had walked these halls, by now it was just muscle memory to Hoseok's room. It was also the early morning, hence why the hallways were so sparse and empty and easy to navigate.

Hoseok's hospital room had various gifts littered inside and outside the room. When Yoongi opened the door, he noticed five new bouquets of flowers littered around the room, with a couple more scented candles sitting up on a table in the corner of the room.

The sight that greeted him was as usual, ever so unpleasant. It's always shocking to see your once vibrant lovers face, dulled down and covered by tubes and a breathing mask. It never fails to make him aware of the reality that he is about to live, and that he is not prepared for.

Hoseok's face was a pasty white color, and his once bright eyes were slightly dimmed. His brightly colored, curly blond hair was now lifeless with black roots growing out the top of his head.

Setting down his bag, and taking off his coat, he smiles as he turns around and catches Hoseok' s bright eyes settled on him. He pulls a chair up to the side of the hospital bed and runs his hand through his hair before letting out a soft sigh.

"What will I do without you, Hope-ah?" Yoongi said while running his hand through his hair multiple times before stopping. He takes a moment to glance outside the window, the stars shined brightly in the distance, but the city lights of Seoul were the main attraction.

A pale hand lands on his left shoulder, bringing him out of his thoughts. He feels a pair of slightly chapped lips placing a kiss on his cheek, as a tear runs down it. When he turns to look at his lover, he sees Hoseok pulling back down his oxygen mask and taking a few deep breaths afterward, letting out a few coughs as his lungs struggle to take in oxygen.

The kiss brought a smile to Yoongi's face, and soon one came across Hoseok's face as well. Although It didn't really reach their eyes, as they both knew their time was limited.

In the next hour or two, a doctor will arrive to help with the assisted suicide. As per request, the two got to spend a couple of hours together, before the lethal dosage of drugs were injected into Hoseok' s system, permanently putting him to sleep.

They had no choice, it was either let him suffer as all his internal organs shut down and rot him from the inside out, or peacefully allow him to die in his sleep, and void of any pain, and peaceful. It was a no-brainer, and the appointment was set up in a matter of a few months.

It is now November 14th, 2022, the time is 2:32 AM and today is the last day he will ever see his sunshine, shine again.

For today is the day that Hoseok will finally sleep without pain or discomfort. It’s what he deserves.

a soft knock on the door snaps Yoongi out of his thoughts, and he quickly gets up and opens the door. In steps a set of twins, a little boy and girl, who immediately ran to the side of Hoseok's hospital bed.

The both had on children's hospital gowns on, and the little girl was missing an arm, her right one, with various scars littered across her face, while the little boy was missing his hand and forearm on his left side. He also had various scars on his face and neck, along with a long scar across his left eye.

They both take one of his hands and start talking to him. They tell him about their dream, in which he disappeared and never came back. Yoongi didn't have the heart to tell them that their dream was about to come true.

They already knew.

Throughout the whole interaction, Hoseok managed a small smile to hide his pain from the children. Eventually, their night nurse had called them back to their rooms and bid them a good night/good morning. The children left crying.

For the next thirty minutes, Yoongi talked while Hoseok listened. Yoongi also let Hoseok listen to a new song he was working on titled "Hope" inspired by him of course. They continued like this until Hoseok had a serious coughing fit, and the nurse had to be called in.

It was almost time.

After his face and mask was cleaned of all blood and other bodily fluids, Yoongi started crying lightly. Once the nurse left, Yoongi climbed in the bed with him and laid Hoseok's head on his chest.

"Hope-ah, you'll finally be at peace, right? You won't be in pain anymore, right? Yoongi let out a short fake laugh after that, as he tries to lighten the depressing mood floating around them. He ran his ringed fingers through his light blue hair, tugging on the roots a bit before letting them loose with a sigh.

They stayed like that for a while, Yoongi still crying softly, while Hoseok rubbed his stomach and tried to calm him down. Yoongi was never the type to really show himself crying around others, but given the situation, it was understandable.

It was quiet and peaceful until a series of knocks were heard coming from the door.

It was their friends. Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook all came to the side of Hoseok, while Seokjin and Namjoon went to the side of Yoongi. Shortly after Hoseok's doctor, Dr. Seo, came in and pulled up the rolling chair to the side of the bed.

"Okay Mr. Jung, are you ready for the injection?" The doctor had asked while flipping through some papers on a clipboard. She had long gray hair, and thick glasses, she also had on a doctor's coat and some dark grey slacks.

Hoseok gave a thumb ups, before reaching for Yoongi's hand again. Yoongi could feel a sight shake coming from Hoseok's hand, as the doctor explained how the process would work for him.

The way it would go is:
• A numbing drug would be injected into his arm.
• Then a drug would be injected that would calm him down
• Finally, the lethal injection would be injected,
After that, it would only be a few minutes before his heart would stop, and he would be deceased.

The process would take only a few minutes at most.

The doctor went through all the procedures dealing with the will and how everything he owned would find a new home. She double checked everything with Yoongi, before beginning the preparation process for the injections.

Yoongi was just playing with Hoseok's hair as he started to hum the tune to a lullaby that had been stuck in his head recently.

They then began to unhook, and unplug various machines and equipment, before finally taking off his oxygen mask. It was the first time in months, that Yoongi had seen his lover without the tubes and wires. Although his condition took away some of the life from him, he was still beautiful in Yoongi's eyes.

Soon the doctor began the injection process, and Yoongi held hands and calmed Hoseok down, as his baby was afraid of needles and sharp objects. His sister had entered only minutes before and was holding Hoseok's left hand. Tear tracks were obvious, and anybody could tell she was distraught and saddened.

After the doctor had administered the injection, it was only a matter of a few minutes before Hoseok would finally have a good night's sleep, then he would finally be at peace.

Yoongi fiddled with Hoseok's engagement ring as he looked into Hoseok's eyes. He leaned down and gave him a long kiss on the forehead, before pulling away and looking out the window. It had begun to lightly rain throughout the past hour and a half, and the window was blurred from the many drops of water on the glass.

Yoongi adjusted his thick, black glasses. He took a deep breath before looking at their friends and giving them a slight smile

He gently started to caress Hoseok's face, as his eyes started to slowly droop. The drugs were beginning to take effect. He began kissing him all over the face, and at the end, he finally placed a kiss on Hoseok's lips. He cleared his throat and began to quietly let out a lullaby.

"You were my s-sunshine, my only sunshine"

He strokes the side of his lover's face, as the color slowly leaves the once rosy cheeks, and his breaths slow down. It began to rain harder and harder, the weather reflecting his mood perfectly.

"You made me happy, when the skies were gray"

He looks out the hospital window again, it's just before sunrise, however, the skies are a grayish color. He picks up Hoseok's head and gently places it on his chest. He went back to running his hands through his lover's hair, once Hoseok had stopped coughing.

The rest of their friends and Hoseok's sister had gathered around the bed. Hoseok's sister was crying, as Namjoon and Seokjin held her. Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook all were crying at the end of the bed as well.

"It's almost time" he had thought to himself, he quickly started to sing the next part, his volume increasing as he went on. Hoseok was slowly closing his eyes, as he cuddled closer into Yoongi's chest.

Hoseok loved hearing Yoongi sing, it was one of his favorite things when Yoongi would sing cheesy love songs on their anniversary, or when he would sing those overplayed pop songs to get on Hoseok's nerves. He loved it.

"You'll always knew dear, how much I lo-loved you"

Yoongi sniffles and that's when he realizes how bad his eyes sting, and how dry and tight his throat feels. he tries to hold his tears back. The heart rate monitor starts to slow down, and that's when he noticed the nurses and doctors gathering behind the door.

He takes some time admiring Hoseok's face, as the boy peacefully slept on his chest, coughing every few seconds. He runs his hands through the boy's soft, dirty blond-ish hair color.

By then, the sun had begun to rise, and there were birds singing in the gardens, and the city was beginning to wake-up.

He hums the tune to the song while stroking Hoseok's features one last time. He knew time was up, and that he'll be gone any minute now. He decided to finish the song, as his body began to shake. The tears wouldn't stay at bay, and a few slipped out. His voice had taken a sad tone, but nonetheless, he continues.

"Why G-God, why d-d-did you take my sun-sunshine away"

It was ironic how at that very moment, the rain stopped, and golden rays of sunshine shined brightly into the room, highlighting Yoongi and Hoseok perfectly.

Yoongi placed his forehead against Hoseok's hair, as he quietly hummed the tune of the song. He heard some shuffling as people moved around the room near them, and then there was a warm hand on his back, and a quiet "I'm sorry for your loss" from the doctor. Then there was nothing.

And that's when the dam officially broke. He doesn't know if it was the gentle tune he was humming, or the heart rate monitor finally letting out that long 'beep', or even the doctors and nurses quietly coming back in all at once, but he finally let his facade fall, and the tears come all at once.

He hugged the body to his chest, as he cried and cried and cried, 'til his eyes could let out tears no more. He cried until all his emotions were let out into the air until his throat went raw from all the times he screamed. He cried until he felt like he was going to pass out from crying, and then he stopped.

He got up, and gently placed Hoseok's head back on the pillow. He then placed a kiss on Hoseok's forehead; he tells his friends sorry, before turning around and running out of the hospital room. Shouts for him to come back fell on deft ears as he left the hall.

He ran and ran and ran until he was out of the hospital itself. He ran until he was back to their apartment, and then he continued running until he made it to their bathroom, where he went to the toilet and started to dry-heave.

When the heaving stopped, the tears came back full force.

That's when it really hit him. His hope, his love, his everything, his... His sunshine had actually passed away. The only person that could ever bring a light to his life, was gone. Leaving him behind, alone, depressed and saddened just as he was before Hoseok danced his bright light right into Yoongi's dark life.

And then he was back to square one as if all the joy and happiness had left him to his own devices. Gone were the gummy smiles, and loud laughs. Gone were the happy songs and crazy dancing. Gone were the early nights and late mornings. Gone. Everything was gone. He was bare, just as he was in the beginning, lifeless and sad.

Hoseok was gone, and so was his sunshine.
