Moving On

Summary:

Everyone’s afraid of changes
Staying, moving on, staying, moving on
We keep repeating the same things again and again
I guess that’s life, I’m afraid

Roommates Yoonjin talking in bed the night before they move into their new, bigger apartment.

Work Text:

“Okay, I’ve got another one for you,” Jin says, prodding Yoongi on the arm.

“I was almost asleep, hyung.”

“Ohsorrybabe,” Jin says in one breath. “So what would you do if you woke up as a steak?”

“What…the fuck?” Yoongi rolls over in bed to frown at him – the light from the hallway creeping in under the door is just enough for Jin to see Yoongi’s disgruntled face, and laugh at it.

“If you woke up as a steak-”

“I heard you the first time.” Yoongi finds himself distracted by the outline of Jin’s neck and shoulders from the dim hall light.

“Well?” Jin shifts closer to Yoongi, while the latter traces the faint glow of light on his neck. “If I woke up as a steak, I don’t think I’d be able to control myself.”

Yoongi can’t help but laugh. “What?”

“I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from eating myself.”

“Wait, you would eat yourself?” Yoongi makes a face. “What the hell?”

“If I were a steak.” Jin puts on a terrible Beyoncé impression and sings softly, “If I were a steaaaaak…”

Yoongi flicks him on the arm. “Weirdo.”

Even just one daaaaaay…” Jin snuggles up to Yoongi, getting louder.

“God, Jin’s it’s like 3am.” Yoongi chuckles, pretending to jerk away from Jin and his noise. “And those aren’t the lyrics.”

“Oh yeah, then what are the lyrics?”

“Fuck if I know, but that’s not it.”

Jin pouts, rustling the sheets as he snuggles in closer. “Okay, I’ve got another one for you-”

“Hyung, we have to be out at eight tomorrow morning.” Yoongi frowns. “I mean, later.”

Jin’s easygoing smile fades as he glances around their room, which is pretty much empty save for the bed, and the last few boxes of their things.

Yoongi peeks one eye open when Jin’s too quiet for a while. “Are you sleeping?”

“Huh?”

“Were you sleeping already?” Yoongi asks again, lowering his voice to a hoarse little whisper.

“No.”

Yoongi crawls his hand along the sheets until he finds Jin’s. “Is something wrong?”

“What time are we leaving tomorrow?” Jin asks.

“Eight. But the movers will pick up our stuff earlier,” Yoongi breaks into a yawn. “Actually I can’t remember what they said.”

“They said they’ll be here around seven.”

“Oh, ok,” Yoongi grins as his eyes flutter closed again. “If you knew, why’d you have to ask me?”

“I just wanted to make sure,” Jin says, straining his eyes to watch Yoongi drift off to sleep. It doesn’t take that long – Yoongi’s exhausted from all the packing they’ve had to do in the past few days.

Jin rolls over carefully, trying not to accidentally wake Yoongi, but the mattress is old and a bit soft in places, so Yoongi, against his will, rolls facefirst into Jin’s back.

“Mmph.” Yoongi grumbles, rubbing his face groggily. “W- What time is it?”

“I think it’s been five minutes.” Jin says, without turning around.

Yoongi moves forward, burying his face in the curve of Jin’s spine as he throws one arm around Jin’s waist. “Go to sleep.”

“Yoongi?”

“Go to sleep!” Yoongi tightens his arm around Jin. Then he sighs and grins, saying, “What is it?”

“I’ve got another one for you,” Jin starts slowly, ignoring Yoongi’s pretend irritated grumble.

“Go.”

“If you woke up as a-”

“Hyung, seriously.”

Jin chews on his lip, slowly turning to face Yoongi. “Okay, I’ll be serious.”

Yoongi’s grin gleams in the faint light. “Ok, go.”

“Will you still sleep with me tomorrow?”

Yoongi squeezes Jin’s waist playfully. “Tomorrow? What’s with tomorrow?”

“We’re going to have our own rooms.”

“Oh, right.” Yoongi’s hand slides off Jin’s waist self-consciously. “About that, my clothes probably won’t fit in my room, I mean, some of it will, but not all, so… Yes, I guess I’ll have to sleep with you.” He says with a little shrug.

Jin mimics his shrug, smiling. “I guess.”
