Chapter Text

Walking through the park usually cheered Asgore up better than almost anything else. Toriel had told us to go get some groceries for our anniversary party at the castle later (and because Frisk wanted some snacks), and we figured we could save some time if we went through the park. I expected him to be pretty happy about seeing the trees. Fall started next week, and some of them were already changing colors. He seemed to really enjoy watching them change, so his neutral expression as we walked along was surprising to me. He seemed to be thinking about something, but I couldn’t tell what.

“Gorey, are you alright? I thought you liked fall trees?” I guess I shocked him, because he recoiled a bit.

“Oh, uh, I do. I just… have a lot on my mind.” He looked down at his fingers, tapping them together.

“What? It’s Freedom Day. Aren’t you excited for the party?” He sighed, and stopped walking. He looked up and scanned over me. He took my hand and looked down at me again.

“Come on, there’s a little alcove over there. I… I don’t want to talk about it in the open.” He pulled me over to the alcove, which was under a tree by a small hill. I began to worry about what he could be thinking of that was bad enough he would worry about it enough to want to hide. He sat down on the metal bench and gestured next to him. I sat down, and he took a deep breath.

“We told you about Asriel and Chara’s death, right?”

“Yeeesssss…?”

“They… died on Asriel’s 11th birthday. Which is today.”

“Oh. Oh… Asgore, that’s…” He chuckled weakly.

“Unfortunate timing, yes. I’ve been thinking lately about how… how much Asriel wanted to see the surface. He got his wish in the worst way possible. I just…” His eyes teared up. I took his paw and squeezed it. “I wish he could have seen this. That he could’ve come back somehow. He would have loved this. The space, the sun, the sky, the flowers… Undyne, Alphys, Papyrus, Sans, Frisk… You…” He falters and squeezed my hand back. “He would have really liked you. He would have been happy that Tori and I found him another parent.” He smiled and rubbed my hand.

“Asgore… I…” I blushed furiously and laughed. “I would be a terrible parent. I’m not very good with kids, you know that.”

“What in the world do you mean?” He smiled. “Frisk likes you a lot!”

“Well, Frisk is weird. They’re 16 now, they’re barely a kid.”

“If Asriel had come back when he broke the Barrier , he’d be 16 today. You’re fine with teens.”

“Because I was one a decade ago, Az!”

“Well, maybe, but the point is that he would have liked you. I wish he could have met you. I’m sure you’d love him too. He was adorable, and really sweet.” He sniffed, and I could see a tear roll down his face. “He didn’t deserve what he got. I’m happy Frisk told us about his fate, but…”

“You wish he got a better ending.” He nodded.

“I got a better ending than him, and he most definitely deserved better than me. He never wanted to hurt anyone. Me? Ha!” He let out a small groan. “You know what I did…”

“Asgore… you know no one blames you for what you did.” I cupped his cheek, and turned his head toward me. His blue and orange eyes were brimming with tears.

“You may have forgiven me but… I haven’t forgiven myself. I can’t. I can’t let myself do anything like that ever again.”

“Asgore. You won’t. I know that you won’t. We’re not trapped in the Underground. You’re not as vulnerable and motivated as you were.” I got up on my knees on the bench so I could be face to face with him. “You’re beyond that now. Even Toriel forgave you, and now you two are back to being as adorable as Gerson said you were. You can’t blame yourself forever. You aren’t your mistakes.” Asgore’s mouth broke into a smile as the tears started to stream down his face.

“Gods, you really are a wise young adult, you know?” I smiled and leaned up to kiss him.

“You are too, ya fluffy dork.” We laughed together, and he turned and wrapped his arms around me. His hugs were always so comforting. Strong and warm, yet soft and relaxing. We kissed softly, yet we kept it for a while. I ran my fingers through his mane, and he rubbed my back. When I finally pulled back, Asgore did the same. We were both blushing deeply, and the tears had stopped coming out of his eyes. I wiped the remaining tears off his cheeks and booped his snout. “Gotcha.” He snorted.

“Gods, I love you so much.”

“I love you too, Fluffybuns.” We sat there staring into each other’s eyes for a while, until I remembered why we weren’t at home. “Wait, weren’t we going to get groceries?” Asgore sat up quickly.

“Oh fuck, Tori’s gonna be wondering if we’re okay. We should get going.” I looked up at him in shock. He rarely sweared, but when he did, he meant it.

“You… you just…”

“We’ve been dating for over a year, dear, I think I can swear in front of you.”

“Oh yeah, it’s just… you don’t swear. Like, ever.” I stood up and took his hand.

“I don’t want people thinking their King is a prolific curser. But, we're alone, and I trust you not to tell.”

“I swear, I never planned on telling anyone except Tori that you said fuck.” He laughed and left the alcove.

“Good enough. Come on, Tori needs time to cook.” I followed him out, and the two of us walked off toward the supermarket.

It took us about half an hour to get all the ingredients we needed, and we decided that it was probably a better idea to take a bus home than walk, as it’d be faster. Luckily, there was a bus to the stop near the castle just outside the supermarket. We hopped on, and, per usual, Asgore got a lot of attention. He liked talking to the citizens, and it seemed to cheer him up. I sat to the side with the groceries, quietly. No one really bothered to talk with me, but I was alright with that. I didn’t enjoy talking with people like he did, and people wouldn’t have much to ask me. I was relieved when we got to our stop and got off. We walked up the street towards home, each of us carrying some groceries. Somehow I ended up carrying more just as many groceries as Asgore, despite him being almost 2 feet taller than me. After a while, my arms were getting tired.

“Hey Asgore, can you carry some of these for me? They’re… kinda heavy.”

“Oh yes, sure! But, alas, my hands are full. Hmm… wait!” He leaned down and bowed his head.

“Uh… On your horns…?”

“Yeah! Why not? They can hold them.” I laughed and shrugged.

“Alright, if you say so.” I plopped a bag on each of his horns. “Okay, you’re good. But, stand up slowly, so it doesn’t slam you in the face when you do.”

“Here goes…” He stood up slowly, and the bags slid off the side of his head. He straightened up, and smiled at me. “It works!”

“Haha, I guess it does! Come on, let’s get to Tori.” I laughed and ran off down the street.

“Wait! I’m coming!”He ran up to me, then slowed down to match my pace with my smaller legs. We walked up to and through the castle, around to the area where we lived. As we opened the door, we were hit with a wave of smell, of fresh baked cookies and snail pie. Toriel was in the kitchen, stirring a bowl of batter.

“Hey, Tori!” Asgore plopped his hand bags on the counter.

“Oh there you two are! I was beginning to get worried you were off having a romantic moment or something.” She looked up from her bowl, and her face contorted in confusion. “Uh… dear? Why do you have bags on your horns?”

“I had too many bags, so I gave him some.” I said casually. “He figured he could use his horns.” Toriel laughed and rolled her eyes.

“Well, take them off so I can use those groceries, ok? Oh, and Gorey, Frisk wanted to ask you about the meeting next week. They wanted help with their speech.” Asgore kneeled down so I could take the groceries off his horns. I took them off and placed them next to the other bags.

“Alright, Tori, I’ll go help Frisk.” He turned to me. “You can help Toriel bake, right?” I nodded.

“Yeah, if she wants me to.”

“I’d appreciate it!” She smiled and beckoned me over. “Just promise not to eat the cookies, alright?” I walked over and poked her arm.

“Oh Tori, how could you ever accuse me of such a terrible act?” I said, reaching over to the cookies. Asgore laughed.

“Come on Tori, you know they’d never do that! Now have fun, you dorks. I’m going to go help Frisk.” He walked off, and Toriel turned over to him.

“We will, Gorey!” I took advantage of her turning away, and stuffed a cookie in my mouth. Toriel turned back and smirked. “Oh dear, whatever is that in your mouth?”

“Absolutely nothing Toriel! I’m appalled that you would even ask!”

“Oh, I’m so sorry dear, I’m such a fool. I’m just so paranoid about my cookies.” She dramatically put her paw over her face.

“Ah, it is alright, my Queen, I forgive your transgression against me.” We looked at each other seriously for about five seconds, then we broke out laughing.

“It’s fun when we do that, isn’t it?”

“Yes it is, Tori. Now we should probably go back to baking.”

“Yes we should. Now pass me the white chocolate chips from the grocery bag for these brownies.”

“Got it.” I walked over to the grocery bags and shuffled through them looking for the white chocolate chips.

“So, what took you and Asgore so long?” Toriel asked, returning to stirring the batter.

“Oh, uh… we got a bit distracted by the leaves.” I picked up the chips and tossed them over to counter next to her.

“And what did you actually talk about?” I blushed, and looked up at her.

“How did you… know?”
“I’ve known you for two years and Asgore for about a thousand. You are both terrible at hiding your feelings. So, talk to me about it.” I sighed and sat down at a counter chair.

“Alright, alright. He was… thinking about Asriel. He said he’s been thinking about how much he missed out on. He… really wants him back.”

“Oh…” Toriel stopped stirring and looked up at me. “He mentioned that to me the other day.” She sighed. “I really miss Asriel too. And today… It’s hard today.” She laughed, in that weak nose exhale you do when you make a self-deprecating joke, and crossed her arms.

“It’s ok, Toriel. He’s your son. He… really got a bad ending.”

“I know. It’s just… so unfair to him. He was the sweetest little kid, he was never mad, never mean. He really just wanted everyone to be happy. Everyone who met him would tell me how great he was… I guess his only problem was that he was lonely. That’s why he bonded with Chara so well. They were… I think they were a good person inside, but they had been so hurt by humans that they…”

“Immediately bonded to monsters for accepting them?”

“Yes. They wanted to help the first people who were nice to them. But… they took it too far. I know they didn’t want Asriel to die but…” She sighed. “I wish they were here now. No one deserved to be happy in this wonderful castle on the surface more than those two. If there was anyway I could bring them back…” She trailed off, and her eyes teared up. I stood up and walked over to her.

“Oh Toriel…” I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her from behind. “Asgore said the same thing.” I took a deep breath. “You two really are great parents. I know you would do anything for them. I… I’m really sorry that I can’t help. That I can’t understand.” She turned in my arms and faced towards me, wrapping her arms around me.

“No, no, it’s good enough that you’re just here. You’re a really good listener.” She laughed and rubbed my back. “You little dork.” I laughed back.

“Well, you’re a medium dork.”

“Gorey’s the large dork, then?” I nodded.

“Our large fluffy dork.”

“Hey, I’m fluffy too!”

“You’re not as fluffy as Gorey and you know it.” She laughed.

“I do, but I’m still fluffy!”

“Yeah, but you’re more furry.” She rolled her eyes and smiled.

“Alright, I’ll settle for that.” I smiled back and kissed her. Her kisses were different from Asgore’s, less strong and more gentle. I could taste the batter from her baking. She rubbed a circle with her finger on my cheek. I was about to hug her tighter when she sharply jumped back. “WAIT FUCK MY PIE!” She yelled. She quickly put on oven mitts and pulled out a butterscotch-cinnamon pie from the oven, placing it on a cooling tray on the counter.

“Uh… You ok, Toriel?

“Yes, yeah, I just… forgot about the baking thing.” She blushed and rubbed the back of her head. “Sorry for stopping the kiss so suddenly, dear.”

“Oh, no, it’s fine. You’ll just have to make that up with me later.” She laughed and winked at me.

“Got it, dear. ” I laughed and winked back, smiling.

“TORIEL, IS THE PIE OKAY?” Asgore yelled, having burst into the room in concern for the possibly burnt pie.

“Dad, relax!” Frisk poked out from behind him. “It’s just a pie!”

“Yes, dear, the pie is fine.” Toriel said from the floor, crouched down and taking out a brownie pan from the cabinet.

“Sorry for worrying you, Asgore, we got preoccupied with kissing.”

“I am RIGHT here!” Frisk yelled.

“Sorry for saying that I kissed my girlfriend, Frisk.”

“Your girlfriend is my mom, it is very weird for me!” Asgore and Toriel were laughing the whole time Frisk and I were arguing with each other.

“Okay you two, relax. Frisk, why don’t you help your mom and so we can start setting up?”

“Alright then, Dad. Just don’t start making out while you’re decorating, okay?”

“No promises, Frisk.” I chimed in, laughing.

“Gods, I have the weirdest fucking parents.”

“Hey!” Toriel, Asgore, and I said in unison, in mock offense.

“You’re also the best!” Frisk laughed and held up their hands defensively. “I’m just teasing!”

“Okay, but you’re on thin fucking ice with that swearing, Frisk.” Toriel and them laughed, but Asgore raised his eyebrow at me.

“Did me saying fuck earlier make everyone else use it too?” That made Frisk and Toriel laugh even harder, and I joined in.

“Yes dear, we all have a swear radar, everytime you use one we all get to use one too.” Toriel smiled. “The Ass-gore radar.” Asgore groaned, but Frisk and I laughed. I high-fived her, and Asgore ruffled Frisk’s hair.

“I can’t believe my own child would laugh at such a vulgar pun, that my own wife made. I’m disappointed in all of you. You’ve Torn-riel my heart apart.” He looked around expectantly, but none of us laughed.

“That was a stretch, Dad.”

“Yes, it was, but it was the best I could come up with, sorry.” He looked down. I walked over to him and patted his arm reassuringly.

“Aww, It’s okay. Come on, let’s go decorate.”

“Okay…” We walked over to a box of decorations in the dining room and began putting them up. Frisk went over to the kitchen and helped Toriel finish the food. We spent the next three hours preparing for the party, talking and laughing with each other. The Dreemurr family may be very weird, but we were happy. By the time that the first guests arrived (Alphys and Undyne), we were pretty much done. The party went pretty well. We talked with everyone about how they’ve been doing (really just Napstablook and Mettaton, as we saw them the least often) and how much things have changed in the half-decade since freedom. Everyone loved Toriel’s cooking as always, and Papyrus’ spaghetti was almost mediocre. It wasn’t until about 8pm that everyone had left, and it took some effort to get Undyne and Alphys to finally go home. Asgore had to promise that he would go on a walk with them that weekend.

After we finished cleaning up, Frisk said good night to us and headed off to bed. We figured we should do the same, so we went into our room. I sat in between Asgore and Toriel, the two of them both hugging me tightly.

“Gods, you two are so soft. How did I get so lucky?”

“It’s not luck, dear, you’re just really cute.” Toriel replied.

“You’re extremely cute and also nice.” Asgore added.

“Yeah but like, how did I get the King and Queen to think that?”

“By being cute.” Asgore nuzzled my shoulder.

“This isn’t rocket science, dear. We love you!”

“More than anything! Come on, Tori, let’s show them how cute they are.” Toriel laughed and nuzzled my neck. I started blushing, and she smiled.

“Aww, are you embarrassed about your partners nuzzling you? Because we looooove you so much?” She smirked up at me as I giggled.

“Tori… Azzy… come on…” My blush deepened and the two of them smirked at each other.

“Aww, do you not think you deserve this royal nuzzling? We want to give it to you, you know that, right?” Asgore said, lowering his voice even deeper than normal.

“Oh my gods Asgore, I know! I just want to cuddle tonight, okay?”

“Oh, really?” Toriel pulled back. “We can do that, if you want.”

“I do. With kisses, of course.”

“Of course with kisses, how else would it be, dear?” Asgore chuckled and kissed the back of my neck.

“Holy shit Asgore, that’s nice. Please do that more.” Asgore laughed and kissed my neck again.

“Whatever my triarch wants, dear.”

“Aww, now I’m feeling left out, Gorey!”

“Ah, how could I forget about my Queen?” They leaned out over my shoulder and kissed each other.

It was really nice to see them being cute with each other. They really were the sweetest couple, and knowing how much they've been through, I was happy that they were still so happy and sweet together. The three of us kissed around and cuddled for another half hour before we finally decided to actually go to sleep. I fell asleep in their big fluffy arms, enjoying their warmth and fur, knowing that I was the luckiest person in the world.

Chapter Text

I had woken up early this year, before Asgore and Toriel. I maneuvered my way out of their arms, and walked over to the window. The sun was just about to rise, and I had some preparations to do. As I snuck out the door to our room, Asgore shifted over. I was afraid he had noticed I left and woke up, but luckily he just pulled Toriel closer without waking up. I peeked into Frisk’s room as I walked up, and they were also asleep. Good, I was alone. I walked into the kitchen and began making some waffles and tea. I knew Asgore and Toriel probably wouldn’t be in the best mood when they woke up, so I wanted to surprise them. It was their son’s birthday, after all.

“Hey, what’re you doing up and cooking?” Frisk’s voice broke me out of my cooking trance. They leaned against the wall, smiling but clearly tired.

“Oh, I’m just… making your parents some breakfast. I know today is hard for them, so this year I wanted to try to help them through it better.” Frisk sighed and forced a smile.

“Yeah… that’s nice of you.” They walked over to me. “Thank you for caring so much about them. I…” They paused, and crossed their arms. “I know how much they care about you, and how happy you make them. They really deserve that. They’re the best parents I could have ever asked for, and…” I saw their eyes beginning to tear up, and I moved to give them a hug. “They’ve been through so much. I know I’ll probably be going off to school next year, and… I trust you to take care of them while I’m gone, okay?”

“I will, I will, I promise. I love them too, and I have no plans to leave them anytime soon.” Frisk hugged me back, and I gave them a quick kiss on the forehead. “And don’t forget, I love you too. It’s still a bit weird to think of you as my kid, but you’re my family.” They sniffled, and rubbed their tears away.

“Thank you... Do you want me to help cook with you?”

“Of course! You can taste test a waffle too, if you want. You just got up, right?”

“Mhm, I’m hungry.” They pulled out of my hug and snatched a waffle. “Want me to check on the tea?”

“Yes please, Asgore’s taught you more about tea than he has taught me. I don’t wanna disappoint him.”

“Oh, even if it was absolutely awful, he wouldn’t be disappointed if you tried. You’d have to disrespect the tea to disappoint him.” I chuckled.

“How does one disrespect tea, exactly?”

“I don’t know, maybe you call it hot leaf juice or something, I dare not test Dad about tea.” They stuck their head into the cabinet to look for tea leaves. “What kind of tea do you think they want?”

“I’d say golden flower but that’d be a bit…”

“Too much?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh, we have cinnamon tea. That’ll be good.”

“Yes it will. Put that in, then go check if they’re awake, okay?”

“Got it.” Frisk put the tea bag into the kettle, then headed down the hallway. I returned to the waffles, pouring chocolate chips into the next set of batter. Asgore really liked my chocolate chip waffles, it had become my go to way to cheer him up whenever I needed to. I don’t know what he liked so much about them, but little could cheer him up like me coming over to him with a plate of waffles. Frisk sneaked back into the room, hair now up in a bun.

“Alright, they’re both still asleep, but I don’t expect that to last much longer. Let’s hurry up.”

“Got it, kiddo.” Frisk stopped and bit their lip, clearly holding back laughter.

“K… kiddo? Really?” I blushed and laughed quietly.

“Hey, I’m trying things out! I’ll get a good nickname for you eventually!”

“You known me for two and a half years, I think you would have done that by now.”

“Oh, shush. At least I’m not as bad at names as Asgore.”

“Quite possibly the lowest bar you’ve ever jumped over.”

“You’re not wrong, but at the same time I am offended you would dare insult my boyfriend/your dad so casually.” I feigned shock. “So disrespectful, Frisk.”

“Oh, shush. Come on, tea’s almost done. Let’s get in there before they wake up and ruin the surprise.”

“Alright, alright.” I took out the last few waffles, and piled them up on a platter. Frisk poured the tea out of the kettle into the least-precious teapot we had. We were about to go to their room when Frisk stopped.

“You know what? You should do it by yourself. You’re their partner. That’d be more romantic, right?” I blushed furiously.

“Y..yeah but… you helped!”

“Oh, just do it, dork! I promise I won’t look at you three being adorable. Promise.”

“Oh!” I sighed, then smiled at Frisk. “Alright. Get that teapot on here. See you in a bit.”

I snuck back into our room, careful not to lose anything off the tray. I dropped it off on the bedside table and looked at Asgore and Toriel. They were still cuddled up together, sleeping soundly. They looked so happy… I wasn’t sure if I wanted to wake them up and make them think about their past. I sat down on the edge of the bed, but then a soft voice broke the silence.

“Greetings, dear. You were up early, weren’t you?” Toriel sat up, a soft giggle escaping her. “Happy Freedom Day~”

“Oh, morning Tori. Happy Freedom Day to you too.” I turned to face her. She took my cheek in her paw, and pulled me into a kiss. I smiled into it and slid my hand behind her head, running my fingers through her fur. She broke the kiss, then nuzzled her nose against mine.

“So, dear, what’d you drop off for us?”

“Oh, uh, I knew you two would be… hurt today, so I… made you waffles. And Frisk made tea.”

“Oh! That’s…” She blushed, and looked over to Asgore. “Thank you, dear. I…”

“No need to say anything, Toriel. Just eat.”

“Alright, I will, dear.” She took a waffle and began nomming on it. “They’re very good.”

“They’re waffles, Toriel. I don’t think I could mess them up.”

“Oh, shush. Are you going to wake Asgore up, or just let him rest?” I looked over at Asgore, his hair swept over his face, ears flopped over on the bed. I smiled, and flopped backwards onto Tori’s belly.

“Nah, let him rest. He’s too darn cute for me to disturb him.” Toriel laughed and looked over at him.

“Yeah, he is. He’s absolutely adorable…” She sighed. “Gods, I love him.”

“I love him too. I love you, too, too.” She snickered and kissed my head.

“Well, I love you too too too!” We laughed together, and I picked up a waffle.

“Alright, food time. I’m hungry. No talking, just eating.”

“Whatever you say, my little dork.” We sat quietly, eating our food, sipping some tea. It was nice. It wasn’t until Asgore woke up that anyone made any noise.

“M.. morning, loves…” Asgore groaned out, his eyes barely open.

“Oh, morning Gorey!” Toriel smiled at him. “Look who made us some waffles and tea!”

“Ooh, waffles! Thank you, love…” He chuckled, at least as much as he could while barely awake.

“No problem, Azzy,” I said. “Anything to cheer you up today.”

“Today? Oh… oh. It’s Asriel’s…” He trailed off, and sighed. Tori and I both moved to hug him, but he waved us off. He pulled himself up, brushing the hair out of his face, and looked at us. “Sorry… I… Can I have a waffle?”

“Whatever you need, Azzy.” I handed him a chocolate chip waffle. “Do you want cinnamon tea, too?”
“That would be wonderful, love…”

“Hey, I got it, don’t worry.” Toriel turned and poured a cup of tea, then passed it over to Asgore. He took it gently, and took a sip. He sighed and took a bite of his waffle.

“Thanks, you two. I… I needed this.”

“You’re welcome, Azzy. I’m here for you. We’re here for you.”

“If you need to talk, Gorey, you can talk to us. I… I know how much it hurts.”

“I… I wish he was here. I wish… I could tell him… that…” His eyes welled up, and he carefully put his teacup and waffle down on his nightstand.

“Gorey… Gorey, it’s okay, you don’t have to cry…” Toriel and I moved over and hugged him. He froze for a second, as if surprised, then wrapped his arms around us, the tears flowing out of his eyes.

“Oh… gods I miss him… so much… but I’m so lucky I have you two… and Frisk… and I just… Thank you… thank you…”

“Azzy, Azzy, it’s okay, we’re here, it’s alright…” I nuzzled against his chest, and Tori tucked her snout in between my face and his neck. They were so soft and warm…

“Gorey… I miss him too. So much… more than I ever thought, but…” I felt drops of water hit my face. “But we have to move on. We’re free, we’re happy, we have friends, and Frisk, and a new partner. Asriel… he’d want us to be happy. And we are. It’s supposed to be a happy day. We… we can celebrate being free. Fulfilling his dream.”

“Tori… you’re right… I just… I wish he could see how happy we are. I wish he wasn’t trapped down there… as a flower... does he even know we’re together again? I just… I wish…”

“Azzy, it’s okay. I know I can never understand this, but… I’m here to help you.”

“I know, I know… I’m just such an idiot…”

“Gorey! You’re not an idiot!” Tori jumped back and grabbed his face. “You’re hurt, just like I am. It’s okay that it’s hard for you. It’s not your fault, dearest. We love you.”

“I… I love you too. Both of you… so much… Thank you.” I moved back and looked up at Asgore and Toriel. Both of them were crying, looking at each other’s eyes. They kissed, softly pulling themselves close. I wasn’t quite sure what to do, so I just leaned against Toriel, hugging her side. When they pulled apart, Asgore wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close. “C’mere, dear, you made me waffles, that gets a kiss too.” I laughed softly, and he did the same, bringing a finger to my cheek. I then realized that my eyes had welled up too, as he brushed the tears away. He smiled, and brought my lips to his. He tasted of not only his normal earthy, flowery flavor, but of the cinnamon tea and chocolate chip waffle that he had just had. It was…wonderful. He pushed me back a bit, and ran his paw through my hair.

“You’re quite welcome, Azzy.”

“Oh shush, my little dork.”

“Whatever you say, you massive fluffy dork.”

“Hey, what about your furry dork?”

“Oh, how could we forget about you, our furry dork!” The three of us laughed happily, pulling each other close and falling to the bed, snuggling and giggling. We called each other dork some more, kissed some more, and eventually actually finished our food. It was fun, and I could tell that Asgore and Toriel were genuinely happy. I loved making them happy, seeing them be happy.

By the time we got out of bed and headed to the living room, it’d been about two hours since I had woken up. Frisk was sitting on the couch, talking to Undyne on their phone. Since the Freedom Day plan for this year was a sort of fair in the evening, Asgore and Toriel decided to finish up their speech, and I volunteered to check it over. We spent the morning doing that, Frisk joining in after Undyne finished their call so she could take Alphys out for breakfast. Around noon, we headed to the fair. The afternoon was full of fun, questionably-healthy food, and large stuffed animals we won for each other (Asgore got Toriel a big snail, which I think she fell in love with faster than she fell in love with me). In the evening, Asgore and Toriel gave their speech, to a loving crowd and thunderous applause. It had been six years since the monsters were freed after all, and all were happy to be reminded of that by their king and queen. We headed home tired, but happy. As we flopped into bed, stuffed animals in tow, Asgore nuzzled my shoulder, pulling me against him, and smiled.

“Thank you for helping me start the day so well. You learned from last year, hunh?”

“Yeah, I wanted to make sure you and Toriel were happy! Did I do a good job?”

“Oh, definitely! Today was great! I had so much fun! Tori dear, you did too, right?”

“Of course! I have Snaily now, and I love him!” She cuddled the snail plushie, holding it tight.

“And you had fun with us too, right?”

“Oh, uh, yeah.”

“Tori…” Asgore and I whined in unison.

“I’m joking! I had fun with you two. You’re my dorks after all. I love going out with you, but I’m pretty happy to be home now. Now, we can cuddle!”

“Oh ho ho, I’m certainly up for cuddling! You too, dear?” I laughed.

“I am always up for cuddling. Cuddling is perfectly acceptable no matter what.”

“Then cuddle time it is, dears!” Toriel drops Snaily, and pulls the two of us close. Asgore and I both laugh and hug her back. I leaned up and nuzzled her, and she nuzzled me back. She turned to nuzzled Asgore, and in a minute he turned to nuzzle me. We snuggled together, smiling, kissing, nuzzling, and laughing for what felt like hours, so when we finally fell asleep, we were close together, warm and soft, a dorky trio being dorks together.

Chapter Text

Another year, another Freedom Day. I awoke last, blinking the sleep out of my eyes as I heard Asgore and Toriel chatting excitedly in the corner. I groaned as I struggled to pull myself up, rolling into the larger dents in the mattress Asgore and Toriel left behind. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Asgore jump, quickly shushing his wife, who turned to face me quickly.

“Oh, good morning darling! Are you alright there?” She asked sweetly, walking over to the side of the bed to ruffle my hair. “You slept rather late, you know.” I looked over at the window, the sun still fairly low in the sky, then turned to the alarm clock to confirm.

“It’s… It’s 7:05, Tori… that’s not late?” I laughed weakly, rolling over to wrap my arms around her waist. “God am I tired though.”

“Oh, shush. You’re later than Gorey and I.” She chuckled, scooping me up into a hug. I blushed as she picked me up, but leaned in and hugged her back. “Speaking of which… Since you treated us last year, we wanted to do something for you today. Give back a little!”

“It’s the least we owe you for what you’ve done for us the last few years. No party, no fair today. Just the three of us.” Asgore chimed in, sliding over next to us to wrap his arms around us too. “We’ve got a lot more leeway with that now that Frisk is at college.”

“Sounds great. Can that wait until I’ve woken up fully?”

“Yes, of course! We only have specific plans this evening, so it’s up to you what we do most of the day and when.” Toriel kissed my forehead softly, smiling. “No pressure.”

“First: we go get some coffee, maybe?” I paused, before turning to smirk at Asgore. “Course, if you would stoop to get some of the inferior morning plant flavored water, Gorey.”

“Hey!” Asgore blushed, looking away shyly. “It was a joke I made once!”

“To be fair, dear, it is very funny to see you react when we bring it up,” Toriel chuckled.

“I made one joke about preferring to get tea on our third date three years ago! Now you two act like I hate coffee…” He fake pouted, and I couldn’t help but giggle as I leaned over to kiss his cheek.

“Fine then, dear. Get coffee instead of something else when we get there,” I challenged him. He rolled his eyes, sticking his tongue out.

“Fi~ne. I will have a coffee. Promise.” Toriel and I chuckled as she poked his chest jokingly.

“Good, dear. Get adventurous!” Asgore blushed, sighing.

“Golly, you two are going to get me to do something insane some day, I just know it.”

“That’s the plan, dork.” I chuckled. “So, are we going to get going or what?”

“You just woke up, dear! Don’t you wanna take some time to get up?” Toriel said, slightly concerned. “Let’s at least have some breakfast at home.”

“Nah, we can get breakfast at the café! If you guys want to spend the day out with me… why not make it as much of the day as possible!” I smiled, leaning up to kiss her cheek. “Should be fun right?”

“Well… if you’re so excited…” Toriel looked to Asgore, and they both smiled, looking down to me.

“Sure. We have to get dressed, and I was going to take a shower, so…” Asgore peered over at the clock, narrowing his eyes in thought. “How about we leave at 7:45? Should that be good?”

“Sounds good to me!” I smiled, leaning into nuzzle Asgore’s neck. “Thank you, you two. In advance. I love you.”

“We love you too, dear.” Toriel laughed as she moved down to kiss my head, Asgore following suit.

“And we always will. You’ll see… Hey!” He frowned, looking at Toriel in surprise.

“You’re such a sappy dork, Asgore.” She rolled her eyes, moving her hand back. I figured she must have punched his arm. “Now, how ‘bout we let our little dork go, so they can get ready?”

“But they’re nuzzling me! It’s so nice when they do that…”

“Sorry, Gorey.” I chuckled, leaning back and slipping out of their arms. “I’ll give you more nuzzles later, okay? I promise.”

“Good. I’ll hold you to that!” Asgore smiled, unlinking his arms from Toriel’s. “I’ll try to shower fast. Tori, can you water the flowers on the big windowsill for me?”

“Course, Gorey.” She gave him a quick peck on the cheek, standing up and heading to the door. She turned to face me with a smile. “I’ll be back in a minute to get dressed, ‘kay darling?”

“Got it!” I winked at her, making her chuckle as she left the room. Asgore and I slid out of our clothes, and while I put on my own outfit for the day, Asgore just grabbed his and slipped into the bathroom. As I looked into the mirror, trying to fix my bed hair, Toriel reentered the room, slipping the old t-shirt she used as pajamas off. I blushed, which she clearly noticed as she began to chuckle, slipping into a casual purple dress that was a less formal version of her typical robe.

“You look very cute too, dear.” I laughed, blushing a bit more.

“Oh, hush, Tori.” As I finished with my hair, I turned back to her. She was looking through her closet, her bushy little tail wagging back and forth slowly. “Whatcha lookin’ for?”

“Ah… um…” She seemed surprised I had even asked, stammering like she wasn’t sure what to say. “You… remember that scarf I had last week? The one Frisk got me for my birthday last year? That.”

“Oh, isn’t hanging next to the front door?” I heard her swear under her breath as she stood back up, fiddling with her pocket.

“It is, isn’t it? Thank you for reminding me. I think Frisk leaving has left me a bit frazzled.” She sighed, frowning, so I went over and wrapped my arms around her, nuzzling her shoulder softly.

“It is weird not having them around, isn’t it?”

“I got so used to having a child around again… even though it’s just for a few months, and they’re only an hour away…” She laughed sadly, rubbing her forehead. “I’m glad I have you two. You really are the best.”

“You’re the best, dear.” I murmured, absentmindedly reaching up with my hand to stroke her ear. I loved their ears, honestly, they were so fluffy and floppy. “You and Gorey have given me so much… I’m so lucky.”

“Because we love you, dear. You make us both so happy.” She chuckled, blushing as I touched her sensitive ears. “Sometimes I forget we’ve only been together for three years. You know us so well. I can’t wait to spend today with you.”

“You two are very sensitive dorks. It’s really easy to make you happy, if you know what to do.” I smiled, chuckling with her. “I can’t wait either. I hope it gets your minds off everything.”

“Oh, I’m sure it will.” She began rubbing her paw around my back slowly, making me blush warmly. “You always help with that. You and Gorey can be very distracting~.” She smirked. I snorted, pulling back to look up at her as I laughed.

“Oh, can we now? ‘Distracting?’”

“Hey! You two are! You’re both so cute!” She chuckled defensively.

“Just cute?” I smirked, leaning my face in close to hers.

“Cute, and, sometimes, very hot.” She giggled, leaning in as well to nuzzle my nose, before pulling me up to her height, paw under my leg to lift me up, and kissing me warmly. I moved my arms around her neck, pulling myself up against her. I kissed back tenderly, and though I knew my cheeks must be bright red, I didn’t care. It felt so good being with her. We soon leaned back, breath mixing in between us. We smiled at each other, giggling quietly.

“Hey, am I interrupting something?” Asgore chortled, watching us from the other side of the room with a smirk. We both blushed harder, smiling as we turned to him.

“No, darling, we’re done.” Toriel set me down, smirking. She leaned, whispering into my ear quietly, “We’ll finish that later, my little dork~” I laughed, nuzzling into her arm.

“Good~” I whispered back.

“Well it’s 7:35…” Asgore’s voice was muffled as he slipped on his flower patterned shirt. “We’re early! Ready to go now?”

“Yes! Let’s go!” I smiled, taking Toriel’s paw and squeezing it tightly.

“Indeed!” She winked at Asgore, and he winked back. I looked at them confused, but shook it off. They must have been planning for today before I woke up, I figured. Toriel and I went to the front of the room, where Asgore held out his paw for me. I grabbed it with a smile, and he led us through the house to the front door. Toriel grabbed her scarf, wrapping it around her neck. While I put my shoes on, Asgore and Toriel shared a kiss, giggling in excitement the whole time. When I stood back up, they abruptly broke apart, holding in laughter as they took my hands again.

“What in the world are you two planning?” I asked.

“It’s a surprise, silly! You’ll see tonight.” Toriel smiled widely. “Be patient!”

“You two are making it harddddd!” I whined. Asgore ruffled my hair and kissed my forehead.

“Good. That’ll make it more worth it.” He grinned.

“You teases…” They laughed in unison.

“Indeed we are. Bye Snaily!” Toriel called to the stuffed snail Asgore had given her last year, which currently sat on the couch as a pillow. Asgore chuckled, ushering us out the door.

“Come on, dear, let’s get going.”

“Alright, alright. The more we do, the faster it’ll go, right?”

“That’s the plan, darling.” Asgore laughed, smiling at me. “So maybe we should do less, just to make you learn to be patient, eh?”

“You’re not my dad, Asgore.” I rolled my eyes sarcastically as we left the house, the other two laughing as we set off down the road. It was a nice day, a nice temperature considering how it was technically still summer. As we got closer to the center of the city, we approached the café Toriel and I had had our first date at. She was quick to point this out, and suggested we go there. I agreed, and we crossed the road quickly to get to it. While I enjoyed walking in between the pair, sometimes they would forget that my legs are not as long as theirs and that their steps are much bigger. This seemed to be one of those times, because I could swear I ended up having to walk twice as fast as them to keep up. We dropped hands as we entered the café, stepping forward to look at the menu. Toriel and I pretty quickly decided what we wanted to eat and drink, and Asgore knew what he wanted to eat, but as we expected, he was very unsure what coffee to order.

“Dear, if you don’t know what the words mean, you can just ask. You don’t have to guess.” Toriel sighed, checking the time on her phone. “You’ve been deciding for three minutes already. You can just get what one of us is getting, if you’re really unsure.”

“But what if I don’t like it?” Asgore grumbled sadly. “I don’t want to waste a drink!”

“Just get something flavored if you’re worried about the coffee taste, Gorey.” I suggested. “There’s cinnamon, you know. That’s what I get.”

“Ooh… but… I don’t know…” He sighed.

“Asgore. Get the damn cinnamon latte, okay?” Toriel punched his arm softly. “If you don’t like it, I’ll get you something else.”

“Fine, fine!” He chuckled, rubbing his neck sheepishly.

“Finally!” She groaned. “I’m hungry.” She led us forward and quickly ordered, clearly not wanting to give Asgore time to change his mind. In a few minutes, we all had our drinks and breakfast, looking around for a place to sit.

“Will… we fit in the seats? Perhaps we can just go outside…”

“I fit when we were last here, it’ll be fine, Gorey!” Toriel smiled, ushering us over to booth in the corner by a window. Asgore and Toriel sat down first across from each other, forcing me to choose who I wanted to sit next to. I figured Asgore would need it more (and would be softer, having just taken a shower) so I slid down next to him, setting my coffee and donut down on the table. I nuzzled against his arm, enjoying the smile it earned from him.

“Thank you, dear… I guess I have to have the coffee now, right?” I chuckled, kissing his shoulder.

“Yes, dear. Drink the damn coffee.” He laughed, rubbing his neck shyly again.

“Shush, dear.” Toriel and I laughed as he picked up the coffee slowly. “It’s not full. There’s more room in the cup.”

“For 5 mililiters of coffee, Asgore. It’s not the end of the world.”

“Alright, alright… just a bit inefficient, is all.” He finally took a sip, narrowing his eyes. “It tastes… fine.”

“Just fine?” Toriel raised an eyebrow. “Do you like it?”

“It’s fine! Certainly no tea, but… I could drink it.” He chuckled, smiling. “Is that good enough for you two?”

“Yes, it is.” She smiled back. “Good for you, dear.” Sipping her own coffee, she turned to me. “What about yours, dear? Do you like it?”

“Course! It’s my favorite.” I took a sip, smiling. “It tastes kinda like your pie, after all.”

“Oh, yeah, it does!” Asgore said happily. “No butterscotch, but it tastes very similar!”

“Really? Perhaps I should get it next time!” She giggled, taking a bit of her muffin. “Do they have butterscotch flavoring?”

“Maybe? I don’t know.” I shrugged. “But anyway, what would we like to do after this?”

“Well, maybe we can just go for a walk?” Asgore suggested. “You know, we can go around town, just look around. Maybe go down to the beach?”

“Sounds good to me! Are you okay with that?” Toriel asked me.

“Yeah, I like that idea. As long as I’m with you both!” I smiled, taking a big sip of my coffee.

“Alright then. That should take us to lunch, right?”

“Hopefully. Then we can figure out what to do for lunch.” She smiled. “Your choice of course, dear.”

“I know, I know. All the pressure’s on me, hunh?” I chuckled, sighing. “So much responsibility.”

“Hey, I’m a king and Toriel’s a teacher, you can’t talk about your responsibility!” Asgore pushed me with his arm, smiling. “Though, that might change soon…”

“Asgore!” Toriel raised her voice, setting her coffee down quickly. “Hush!”

“Wh… what?” I raised my eyebrow, looking between them quickly. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Oh, he’s just joking about... something we’re planning.” Toriel smiled reassuringly. “It’s a surprise, dear. No hints.”

“You two are going to kill me with suspense, aren’t you?” I whined. “I feel kinda bad I don’t have any surprises for you…”

“Aww, don’t worry dear!” Asgore kissed my forehead softly, wrapping an arm around me. “You’re not gonna need any surprises for us. We’re just very excited.”

“Gorey…” I laughed, blushing.

“Just gotta make it to tonight, dear. I promise.” He set his chin on my head, nuzzling softly, his beard tickling me gently. “My little dork.”

“Oh, you two are just leaving me out, aren’t you? We are in public, remember?” Toriel smirked, blushing softly.

“Golly, Tori, I’m so scared about people getting mad at the king for hugging his partner in public. Gods forbid.” Asgore chuckled, leaning back away from me, blushing. “Sorry if I’m embarrassing you, dear. I think Toriel’s getting a bit jealous.”

“No, no, I like it when you’re affectionate!” I hugged his large arm tightly, nuzzling it softly. “You’re so soft. Especially after you take a shower. You’re nice and fluffy!”

“Aww, thank you…” He blushed furiously, giggling. “Good, dear.” He turned, sticking his tongue out at Toriel quickly. “Sorry Tori, only room for two on this bench.” She rolled her eyes, shaking her head.

“You two are so adorable, honestly, it’s fine.” She sipped the rest of her coffee, blushing. “Dorks…”

“Indeed we are, Tori. That’s the point, now isn’t it?” Asgore smirked as he picked up his bagel, taking a quick, large bite.

“Oh, just finish eating. We can go cuddle later.” She set her coffee aside, picking up her muffin. “But let’s get done here first, okay?”

“Okay…” I sighed, pulling away from Asgore a bit, picking up my donut, nibbling at it quickly. “This is very good though.”

“It is, isn’t it? I think they have the best baked goods in town.” Toriel finished her muffin, wiping her face with a napkin. “Good choice for our first date, wasn’t it?” She smiled at me softly.

“It was!” I smiled back. “Remember how awkward you were about holding my hand while we sipped our coffee?”

“Oh? Were you now?” Asgore smirked at her.

“It’d been a long time since I was on a first date! It was weird!” She chuckled shyly, blushing. “I’m sure you two were awkward on yours!”

“We very much were.” I chuckled, snaking my hand over to grab Toriel’s. “But Asgore’s much less embarrassed about how flustered he is.”

“Hey! You’re right, but hey!” Asgore laughed. Toriel covered her face with her other paw, squeezing my hand.

“Oh, let’s just get out of here…” Asgore beamed, still giggling as we slid out of the seats. Asgore and I still had our coffees, while Toriel picked up all our trash and threw it out, leading us out of the café, grabbing our free hands as we sipped our coffee.

We spent the rest of the day walking as planned, all around town. We stopped by the beach before lunch, where we ran into Alphys, Undyne, Sans, and Papyrus all hanging out. We talked to them for a bit before heading back into town for lunch, deciding on the pizza place where Asgore and I had our first date. I snuggled up with Toriel this time, much to her delight. After lunch, we headed for the park. I say headed, because we got side tracked by an antique store for a few hours. We met Gerson while we were in there, so of course Asgore and Toriel wanted to talk to him. I spent that time exploring, though I couldn’t find anything too interesting. By the time we reached the park, Asgore and Toriel seemed to be buzzing with excitement, and the sun was starting to get low in the sky. They held my hands tight, pulling me along towards a corner of the park. My eyes widened as I realized where they were taking me. A familiar alcove, one Asgore had first shown me two years ago.

“We’re almost here, dear! Do you remember the first time we were here?” Asgore said in a sing-songy voice, smiling down at me widely.

“Yeah, two years ago. You were feeling bad about today, and you wanted to talk to me in private. Then we kissed. It was a really nice moment.” Asgore nodded, looking at Toriel softly. She nodded with a smile, and Asgore turned back to me.

“Indeed it was. And I… realized something, that day.” He stopped our walking, right outside of the wall of leaves that surrounded the little alcove. “I realized how much I loved you. How much I cared for you, and how much you cared for me.” He took a deep breath, moving towards me to stroke my cheek with his paw. “I realized that… I wanted to spend the rest of your life with you. The rest of my life, if that is first.”

“G… Gorey…” I laughed nervously, blushing furiously as I realized what he was implying.

“[M/N].” I shuddered as he said my name, his voice low and sweet. “I love you. With all of my heart.” He grabbed both my hands, Toriel letting go of mine to come up behind him. “Now, how about I show you under here?”

Toriel beamed as she lifted the covers behind Asgore, and I saw now what was on the bench under there. There was a large pillow, emblazoned with the Delta Rune that was their family crest, with a simple change. The three triangles on the bottom were hearts, two pointing up like boss monster souls and one pointing down like a human, and a circle ran through all three. I clasped my hands to my face, stepping forward to stroke it gently. It was so soft, so much like the fur of both of them. I turned back to them, now facing Toriel. She smiled widely, and I realized both her and Asgore had teary eyes.

“My darling [M/N].” She crooned, stepping towards me.

‘Tori..” I sat down on the bench, and I realized my own eyes were watering. I rubbed them quickly, and as I set my hand down, shaking, she began to speak.

“I love you so much. You have done so much to cheer me and Gorey up since we met. You make me smile in a way no one else but Gorey can. I want nothing more than to spend my life with you, so that I can smile as long as you live. So that I can make you smile, and so that I can see that adorable face you make when you’re blushing.” She looked to Asgore, and they nodded in unison, stepping in front of me together, getting down on one knee. Toriel pulled a box from her pocket, holding it out on her paw. Asgore lifted the top, revealing the ring inside. I laughed as tears began to stream down my cheek, pressing my hand over my smile.

“[M/N],” They began in unison. “Would you do,”

“Me, King Asgore Dreemurr,”

“And Me, Queen Toriel Dreemurr,”

“The greatest honor we can imagine, and marry us, becoming our Triach?” They finished together, smiling widely.

“Oh… Oh, Gorey, Tori, I… Of course I’ll marry you!” I laughed, leaning forward to wrap one arm around each of them. “I love you two so much… Of course!” I couldn’t stop laughing as they began to laugh too, rubbing our tears away as we hugged each other close. Of course they were planning to propose… we had just discussed getting married someday a few weeks before, and Asgore had helped push through legal recognition for polyamorous marriages around the same time. When I was finally able to stop laughing, though still couldn’t stop smiling, I leaned back to look between them. “Why…. why today?”

“Because, dear. You’ve helped us make today less painful. What better way to continue that then to add something new to the list of things today, something happy?” Asgore kissed my forehead softly. “A new era, for us. From now on, September 15th… is the day we proposed to our little dork. Perhaps we can make it the day we married them too, next year.” He chortled, turning to Toriel. “Right?”

“Right, Fluffybuns.” She smiled at me warmly, stroking my cheek. “If that’s good with you, of course.”

“Definitely. Definitely.” I smiled back, nuzzling into her paw. “I’m so thankful for you two… I love you so much…” I laughed, my face burning red. “I’m so happy, I just…”

“It’s okay, I am too!” Asgore chortled warmly, leaned over to nuzzle my forehead. “I’m so excited to marry you. To hear you call me husband… oh, I can’t wait!”

“And you’ll call me wife! Imagine that!” Toriel laughed, nuzzling both of us close. “I cannot wait.”

“Now, give your fiances a kiss!” Asgore smiled, quickly leaning down to kiss me on my lips, pulling me up against him. I laughed as I kissed him back, enjoying the warm taste of cinnamon and flowers on his lips, slightly salty from the tears that had just been streaming down his cheeks, and the soft scratching of his beard against my face. Perhaps too soon, he pulled back, smiling at me widely.

“Alright, my turn!” Toriel pulled me close, wrapping her arms around my neck and pulling me in close. “My adorable little human.” She kissed me passionately, not even giving me a chance to compliment her back. She tasted of coffee and pie, her fingers playing with my hair gently. When she pulled back, her eyes fell to the ring box, set on the ground beside us. “Oh, yes, your ring! Try it on, try it on!” She picked it up, opening it for me. They both watched, smiling widely, as I slipped it on. It fit my finger perfectly. As I looked at it closer, my eyes widened.

“It’s… like a simpler version of your rings…” I looked back up at them. “What…?”

“Turns out the descendant of the smith who made ours is also one! We had them replicate ours in your size. And make a less fancy one for today.” Asgore chuckled, beaming proudly. “The replicate is for the wedding, and that’s the other one. Like a stepping stone, I guess. Do you like it?”

“I love it, Asgore… almost as much as I love you two.” I giggled, still almost disbelieving this was really happening.

“Come on, let’s go home so we can cuddle on something nicer than the ground! And I’ll make a celebratory dinner, too.” Toriel grinned, standing up and offering a paw for each of us. We took it, pulling ourselves up. Asgore let go of hers, and grabbed my other hand. He then grinned, pulling us forward as he took off out of the alcove.

“A..Asgore!” Toriel yelled, stumbling as I dragged her forward with me. He just laughed, and the three of us ran all the way home. We did indeed spend the rest of the evening cuddling. Toriel made a very nice dinner of pasta and sauce, and we soon made our way to bed, laughing and kissing and hugging. It wasn’t until quite late that we finally settled down, as I curled into Asgore’s neck, Toriel hugging me from behind.

“Fiances… my fiances…” I chuckled quietly, nuzzling Asgore’s furry chest. “I’m going to marry you two..” Asgore chortled deeply.

“Indeed you are, my little dork. Soon I’ll be not just your fluffy dork, but your fluffy husband. And I cannot wait!”

“Neither can your soon-to-be furry wife.” Toriel whispered from behind, nuzzling the back of my neck. I groaned softly at the touch, her fur ticking me softly. The two of them purred softly, hugging me tight in between them. “Good night, my sweet little fiance.”

“G’night, my big furry fiance.”

“Good night to you too, my fluffy husband.”

“And Good night to you, my furry wife.” Asgore paused, chuckling. “And to you, my cute little fiance.”

“Same to you, Gorey.” I giggled.

“Aww, you ruined the pattern!” He groaned. “Come on!”

“Fi~ne. Good night, my big handsome fluffy fiance.” I chuckled, Toriel doing the same.

“Good job, Dreemurrs!” He grinned.

“I’m not a-”

“Oh, shush. You’ll be one soon enough.” Toriel leaned over me, kissing Asgore’s snout, and then my cheek. I chuckled, nuzzling back into her, and the three of us drifted off to sleep, smiling warmly.

Notes:

Good for them! I made sure to add a little reference to the alarm clock dialogue this morning (1 cookie if you get it, an extra cookie if you agree that Asgore and Rudy were totally gay for each other). This one does some skipping, mostly because I wanted to actually get this out today and not in three days. But hey, they got to be cute. And now they're engaged! I bet you can guess what'll happen next year... ;)

Comments are appreciated as always! Validation is nice!

Chapter 4: Freedom Day Dorks the Fourth

Summary:

A happy wedding for a dorky trio :)

Chapter Text

After a year of waiting, today was the day. I was going to get married to my dorks. That was my first thought as I got out of bed that morning. It was odd, to wake up without them there. It was very rare that I slept without them, but they had insisted on observing that human tradition, and that they felt it might be rather strange to wake up and get ready with them that day. I was reluctant, but they seemed so eager to surprise me that day that I felt bad saying no. So gone they were, and I was sleeping by myself in the guest room, they in their room to hurry off to prepare before I woke up. I stretched as I slid out of bed, yawning as I walked over to the drawer, noticing my outfit was already folded up and ready on top. As I went to pick it up,I noticed that there was a letter on top, with Asgore and Toriel’s signatures on top, and hearts on the end. I chuckled, picking it up and opening it carefully, reading their message. The first part was written in Asgore’s hand.

“Here is your outfit for today, darling! It is all ready to go, and I added some special touches for you as a first little surprise. Today is for us, but it is for you most of all. You’ve been a great help with the planning, but Tori and I made sure that you don’t have to worry today. Just relax and enjoy yourself.” The next section was in Toriel’s writing, and marked off by a space. “By now, Gorey and I should have left the house, and Undyne should be on her way to help you get ready to go and come down to the park. Make yourself some breakfast, then you can get changed. Be sure to be here by ten. Your family should be arriving sometime after that, so perhaps you can say hello before you need to get ready there. Just do not forget- we love you, our little dork. And we are so excited to spend today with you soon enough. -Yours, Toriel Dreemurr.” And added in the little space remaining, a bit squashed and cut off, “-and yours, Asgore Dremr.

I couldn’t help but smile, clutching the letter to my chest. Even their words, written, felt so comforting, and so… them. It made my heart flutter in joy. I set it back down, and peeked out the door, to see if anyone was in the house. It seemed not, so I went to the kitchen, and set about making breakfast. I had the thought, for a moment, that perhaps I should try and make some fancy food for my wedding day… But, well, it also seemed rather like myself to just make cereal for breakfast on my wedding day. And that certainly sounded easier… so that’s what I did. I was about halfway through my bowl when there was a loud knock on the door.

“Guess who, nerd!” A voice yelled. I laughed, standing up with a smile.

“Gee, I wonder.” I went over to open the door with a smirk, and stopped before opening it. “Is that you, Alphys?”

“Nope, she’s already out helping Asgore and Toriel! Guess again.”

“Hmm… Well, is that Undyne then?”

“Hell yeah it is!” I opened the door, starting to laugh before getting tackled to the ground. “Happy wedding day, you nerd! You ready to marry my dad?” Undyne flashed her fangs at me with a wide smile.

“Yeah, I hope so!” I chuckled. “It’ll be weird that you’re technically my daughter though, right?”

“Ah, it’s not the weirdest thing in the world. Unless you’re gonna try to boss me around.” She stood up and grinned. “I assume you won’t?”

“No, definitely not.” I laughed. “You’re good there.”

“Good.” She smirked. “Well, we should leave for the park in, I dunno, 45 minutes? Have you eaten breakfast yet?

“Like half of it.” I shrugged. “I’ll be done in five.”

“Aight, then I’ll go grab my clothes and change. Holler when you’re done and we can get you ready.”

“Your clothes?” I asked, confused.

“Yeah? What, you think I’m going to your wedding in an old tank top and pajama pants?” She roared with laughter. “Well, I would probably do that, but ol ‘Gore got Alphys and I matching bridesmaid outfits. It’d be a shame not to wear those, eh?”

“Yeah, yeah… I think Tori had mentioned that…” I blushed, looking away. “I.. probably should have paid more attention to that.”

“Nah, it’s fine. You were probably busy staring at them, hunh?” She smirked, blushing a little. “I do that sometimes, when Al goes off on a tangent for twenty minutes… which is often.” She laughed. “Alright, get going!”

“Alright, alright, I’m going!” I laughed with her as she ran back out to her car, and I returned to the kitchen. As I hurried through the rest of my meal, Undyne slipped back inside and into the bathroom, and came back out in a neat tuxedo with purple highlights. I stifled a chuckle when I caught a glimpse of it as I was putting my bowl in the dishwasher, walking back into the front room with my arms crossed. “That’s quite the color choice.” I commented.

“Yeah, but I like it. You’re gonna love how everything looks together!” She grinned. “Or, at least that’s what Toriel told me to tell you. But from what I saw before I left, she’s right.”

“God, when the hell did they start setting up?” She quickly pulled out her phone and checked the time.

“Uh…. like two hours ago? And they started yesterday, of course.”

“What?! How elaborate is it? It didn’t look that fancy when they showed me the plans!”

“You must have underestimated them.” She smiled again, but softer. “They really care about you. I knew that before, but… seeing what they’ve put together for you? You really mean a lot to them. You’ll see that later.” The fish monster looked down, sighing. “Da… Asgore, he… he used to get real down this time of year.” She chuckled weakly. “He thought he was good at hiding it from me, but I could tell… I figured out what was up eventually. Even when we were freed, even when he and Toriel got back together… I don’t think I saw a real smile on his face today until a few years ago. When we had that party here, remember?”

“Yeah, I remember. He and I had a talk about it that day…”

“Well, whatever you said… it let him be happy today. And I’m sure he’ll be even happier today, today.” She looked back up at me. “I hate to get all emotional but… thank you.” She smiled. “You really helped him out. Not even Toriel or me could do that.” My heart swelled, and I quickly pulled her into a hug. I heard her groan, but she soon wrapped her arms around me.

“That means a lot from you, Undyne.” My eyes teared up as I squeezed her tight. “I’m so grateful for Asgore and Toriel… and I’m really happy you’re happy about me marrying your father.”

“Yeah, yeah… of course I am. Like I just said… you make him happy. That’s all I want for the big guy. He’s been through enough already.” She sighed. “Ngah, damnit… I’m not gonna cry before you actually get married!” She stepped back, huffing and crossing her arms as she rubbed her eye. “You’re not even dressed yet! C’mon, let’s go!” She ran off to the bedroom, stretching her arms as she went. I just rolled my eyes and laughed, following her with a grin as I wiped my own eyes.
I managed to get dressed without much issue- I’m still not sure why they had decided I needed an assistant, but Undyne seemed happy just giving commentary. As for the surprises, sure enough, there were some additions from when I had picked it out about a month earlier, tucked away so I didn’t see while it was folded up. A Delta Rune emblazoned on the chest, and a small golden flower attached to a clip. Undyne was confused at first, thinking it would cover the rune, but as I went to go do my hair, I realized what it was for. I clipped it into my hair, smiling at myself in the mirror. It was something Toriel always found adorable… of course I’d have one for the wedding. By the time I was all tidied up and ready, it was just about time to go, so Undyne and I got in the car and headed off to the park. When we got out, she pulled out her phone, and tapped through it for a moment.

“Okay… I guess I’m turning you over to Frisk until it’s time.”

“Oh, I… don’t get to see them yet?”

“It’s a human custom, not monster! I dunno how it works for you!” She protested. “I’m just telling you what they told me. I’m sure they’ve got it all figured out. Uh… well, it’s over in the big flat area, down towards the pond? I think we’re supposed to stay on this side of the park though…” I sighed, nodding as I began to walk down the sidewalk.

“Fine… I just wanna see how they look…”

“They look great, I’m sure.” She smiled reassuringly. “Well, I am, I have seen them. They look good. They’re matching with you, I swear.”

“Well, I would hope! I helped them pick their outfits!” I cried. “I don’t wanna wait forever…”

“Well, you’re only gonna have to wait… like, an hour?” Undyne sighed. “I think you’ll survive. It’ll be worth it, right?”

“Yeah…” I bit my lip, and went quiet for the rest of the walk. As we approached the end of the park, I was surprised at just how big the stage was… it wasn’t supposed to be a big affair, but I wasn’t surprised Asgore and Toriel had gone all out for me, not really. There was a tent on the side, and I soon saw Frisk waving me over. I smiled again when I saw them, and ran over to give them a hug. They giggled, hugging me back.

“Hey, [M/N]! It’s been a while. You look great!”

“Frisk, it’s been like, two weeks since you went back to college. That’s not really ‘a while.’” I grinned, ruffling their hair. “But thank you! I sure hope so.”

“Of course you are! And I see you figured out the flower. Mom thought maybe we should have told you, but Dad knew you could figure it out.” They smiled as they pulled away, and grinned at Undyne. “Thanks for helping, Undyne, I got it from here. You can go over to the other side and help Alphys with Toriel’s outfit.” She nodded.

“Got it, Frisk.” She saluted quickly, before grinning and running off. “You’re gonna do great, [M/N]!” She called as she left. Frisk laughed, waving me into the tent.

“C’mon, you look so nervous. Let’s sit you down so you can relax a little.”

“I… would like that.” I laughed, following them in with a smile as we sat down at a table.

“Mom and Dad have been so busy all morning getting ready… they’re really trying to make this perfect for you.” Frisk chuckled as they fussed with their suit. “I’m sure they’re going to be so happy to see you, and know this was all worth it.”

“Yeah.. I hope so..” I sighed, rubbing my neck. “I don’t want to mess this up for them…”

“You couldn’t, [M/N]. As long as they get to marry you, I’m sure they’ll be happy.” They smiled sweetly. “And I guess I should add to that… they’ve been giddy with excitement all morning. They really just want this to be special for you, you know.”

“I know, I know…” I smiled weakly. “Of course they do… that’s all they’d ever want. I just…. We’ve been getting ready for this for a year, and… I’m so afraid of it not being perfect.”

“It doesn’t need to be perfect! Don’t worry about everything so much! It’s supposed to be your day!” They giggled. “Let the rest of us figure it out. We’ve got it all working.” They reached over and grabbed my hand, squeezing it softly. “You’re going to be okay. I sighed, squeezing their hand back.

“Y… yeah. Thank you, Frisk… I’m happy you’re gonna be my child, technically. Weird as it is… I’m proud of you.”

“That’s not weird. You’ve been with my parents for what, four years? You’ve been there for me from high school to college now.” They laughed. “I think of you as my parent too, remember?”

“Yeah. I do.” I smiled. “Thanks, Frisk… I feel better now.”

“Good.” They grinned. “Hey, is there anything else you need to do to get ready? Your face good and everything?”

“Um… yes, I think so.” I laughed. “So are we just… waiting now?”

“Uh… guess so.” They quickly checked the time on their phone. “Yeah, we’re not starting for another half an hour…” I sighed, laying my head on the table.

“I just wanna get to the good partttt…”

“I do too… but we’re just gonna have to wait.” Frisk chuckled. “If that’s too much for you, I could go check with them and see if they’re ready.”

“No, no, I don’t want to rush them! We can just… wait.” I groaned. We did indeed wait out what felt like the longest half hour in my life. I began to be very happy that it was a bit breezy that day, and that I wasn’t sweating out of my outfit. But finally, finally, Frisk nodded at me. We stood up, and they led me around to the back, gesturing me forward to a small door in the back of the stage, before giving a quick thumbs up and running off back around. I chuckled quickly, but as my hand fell to the door handle, my body tensed up, and my heart began to beat faster. This was it. My wedding. My wedding to the two most wonderful people in the world, who happened to be the king and queen of monsters, a species I didn’t even know was real until eight years ago. Did I really deserve all this? The fanciness, the ceremony… their love? I looked down at the elegant engagement ring on my finger as I slid it off. I knew they cared about me, that their love was real and that I wasn’t making this all up. What anyone “deserved” wasn’t important. We’re happy together. That is what matters. I was lucky, sure, to have met them. But all of this, this whole stage and flowers and outfits… It's all there because they love me, and they have the power to bring all this together, so why not make it as incredible as they could? I took a deep breath, let myself calm down, and turned the handle, stepping through the door.

As I stepped onto the stage, there was a wave of chatter that swept through the attendees. When I stepped out, I saw my family, and all of Toriel and Asgore and I’s friends, waving at me excitedly. And then I looked to the side, on the stage, and my heart nearly burst out of my chest when I saw Asgore and Toriel smiling at me widely. Their outfits matched mine, all deep, beautiful purples, with the white Delta Rune crests front and center. Toriel’s dress was long and flowing, and Asgore’s suit was snug yet respectable. I couldn’t help but laugh and hold my hands to my chest with teary eyes as I noticed they both had the same flower in their hair, probably tied around their horn. I stepped forward to face them, barely able to get words out. “Gorey, Tori, you look…. You look so wonderful…”

“You do too, darling!” Toriel giggled.

“Oh and look, dear, they did figure out the flower! I told you they could do it!” Asgore smirked at her, blushing.

“I never really thought they could not! I just wanted to make it clear.” She laughed, but turned back to me. “Okay, okay, just step forward a little so we are even. Then we can begin.” I nodded, stepping up to the mark I now noticed was on the stage, my face turning red. Gerson stepped out between us, smiling and nodding at me.

“Alright, alright, settle down, all of you young’ins!” He said loudly, as the audience fell quiet with a giggle. “I can say that, these two are the only ones older than me.” He nodded at Asgore and Toriel, who both stifled a chuckle. “Well then. Today, we’re here for these three insufferably affectionate dorks to commit to each other. Or really, for [M/N] to commit to them, and they to [M/N].” He let out a breath, smiling. “I’ve been by Asgore and Toriel’s side since the day they met. They were my best friends back then, and I gotta say, they’ve done their darn best since then to get me to reconsider that by being unbearably sweet with each other constantly, in public.” He laughed heartily, cautiously echoed by the audience. “After everything happened with their family and they were separated… well, I would have said I was happy to get some peace and quiet, but that would just be a joke. I saw how lonely ol’ Asgore was without her, and when I last did this for them when they reunited a few years ago, I was honestly real happy to see them be obnoxiously cute again. And now… here I am, marrying them to a third person who’s incredibly affectionate. You’d think I’d know better by now.” He paused for another uneasy laugh from the audience, though it was carried by a genuine one from Undyne. “But nevermind what I think. These three seem happier together than I’ve seen the two I know in a long, long time, and I certainly can’t complain about that. As you all know, it’s been eight years today since we were freed. What better marker of how far we come is there than our king and queen marrying a human?” He smiled up at Asgore, who nodded. “Now, I believe it’s time for them to tell their stories.”

“Yes, yes..” Asgore stepped out to face the crowd, taking a deep breath. “Howdy, everyone! I will be going first with my story about [M/N].” He turned back to me, holding his paw out. I blushed deeply, grabbing it. He pulled me forward to the center of the little display, squeezing my hand softly. He looked into my eyes, and I looked back at his, the mismatched orange and blue twinkling with joy. “The day I first knew I loved you,” he began, “was not too long after we had met. We were just having a fun day out at the beach, with our friends, and we had invited you for a new-friend-bonding activity. When you got there, you were so shy, all covered up and reluctant to do much. But Toriel and I wanted you to have fun too, so we did our best to coax you out of your shell. And although it took a few hours and some ice cream to convince you-” I couldn’t help but laugh, thinking of the memory. “We eventually got you to get into your swimwear and just have fun. And I realized, watching you enjoy yourself playing volleyball with our friends… just how wonderful your smile was. And when we were all getting ready to go, the sun starting to set… you hugged me. And as I hugged you back, feeling you snuggle up at my belly… I knew. I wanted you in my life, all the time. I wanted to make you smile, and be happy with yourself, and for you to be there to do the same for me.” He blushed deeply, taking both my hands in his paws and squeezing again. “And I know you will. Today, we make that official. And I… am so glad for that.” He stepped back, quickly wiping his eyes. I suddenly realized that I was tearing up as well, wiping my face with my hand.

“Th… thank you, Asgore.” I chuckled softly, as Toriel stepped forward, grinning warmly as she waited for me to finish wiping my tears, then held out her paws. I took them and nodded, sniffling as I looked up at her. Her deep red eyes shimmered as she fought back her own tears.

“Oh, darling… the first day I knew I loved you was not long after Gorey’s. He had not yet told me how he felt about you, actually. I had invited you out for a walk with Frisk, since you had said you were looking for things to do. Frisk ended up going out with friends that day, and I had called to tell you that… and you still wanted to go with me.” She chuckled. “I was so confused at first, I am still not sure why. Perhaps I just did not know why a younger human like you would still sound so enthusiastic to go on a walk with just an old monster lady. But you were. And it was a lovely walk. You remember, do you not? We went into the forest, and it was such a tranquil place… oh, and we even saw that family of deer!” She giggled happily, and I couldn’t help but chuckle with her. “It was such a fun day. And we talked so much. You told me about you, and… I told you about me. About my family. And you… comforted me. It seemed to come naturally to you. You even had me laughing, as we sat there, close together on that little rock. I was… happy, with you. Just like with Gorey. You knew just how to make me feel better… and your laughter was so adorable. I just wanted to spend so much time with you, joking around and sitting close together. When you left on the way back to my house to head to yours… I watched you go as far as I could see. And when I turned back to head home… I missed you so badly. When I rushed to tell Gorey about it… he told me he felt the same way about you. And that is when we knew… we wanted to have you. But even then, I never really thought we would get to this day so soon.” She smiled widely. “I cannot wait to continue with you. To call you my spouse.” She stepped back, nodding. “And now, it’s your turn.”

“My turn indeed…” I wiped my eyes again, taking a deep breath as I motioned them both forward. They stepped forward, each offering a paw for me to take. I did so, squeezing them tight. “Asgore, Toriel… I realized I loved both of you at the same time. And it was actually a bit before Gorey’s story…” I chuckled. “It was the beginning of that summer. When… I had lost my job. I came to you two, crying, because I just didn’t know what I was going to do. I had worked so hard, and I just felt like I really wasn’t good enough… and you two shut me down fast. You comforted me, and told me… that what I did for work didn’t matter. That it didn’t define my worth. It was hard to understand, having grown up in a world where it was the most important thing about your life. But you two… monsters in general, really… you knew better. I didn’t have to worry. I wasn’t going to become homeless or anything… and you two offered to help me anyway you could. And sitting there, crying on your couch, hugging you both… I realized just how soft your fur was. And how much I liked the feel of it, even in the warmth. How safe I felt with you two.” They smiled proudly, taking each other’s paws so we formed a small circle. “I wanted to feel like that all the time. Safe. Protected. Loved. That what mattered was me, not what I was doing. I loved both of you. And I was so confused by that… I mean, you two were, to me then, a happily married couple, king and queen of monsters, and a thousand years older. I thought I was just being foolish, that I’d never get anything out of it… boy was I wrong.” We laughed, and I looked up between them. “Thank you. Thank you, so much, to the ends of the earth. I love you two more than anything… and I’m forever grateful you made it so that I could marry you. I can’t wait.”

“Neither can I, darling.” Toriel said, squeezing my hand.

“Nor can I, dear.” Asgore added, squeezing my hand in turn.

“Then what are we waiting for?” Gerson yelled, hands on his hips. “Let’s get you softies married!” We all giggled, stepping apart as he stepped forward, taking a box from the stand behind him. He opened, and inside were three matching rings. Asgore’s, Toriel’s, and a new one, smaller, but indeed matching theirs perfectly in design… mine. “Asgore Dreemurr… do you commit your soul to [M/N] [M/LN]?”

“Yes, I do.”

“And [M/N] [M/LN]... do you commit yours to Asgore Dreemur?”

“I do.” Gerson nodded, and I took Asgore’s ring. He held out his hand, and I slid it back on to its spot.

“Now, Toriel Dreemurr… do you commit your soul to [M/N] [M/LN]?”

“Of course I do.” She grinned, quickly wiping her eyes again.

“And [M/N] [M/LN]... do you commit yours to Toriel Dreemur?”

“I do, yes.” I took Toriel’s ring, my hands shaky as I slid it onto her finger. The two of them smiled at each other as they took my ring out together, with some struggle just due to how big their fingers were compared to my ring. I giggled as I held out my hand, and they gently slid it on. I looked at my hand for a moment, then up at their grinning faces, as the world seemed to stop.

“Then, I now pronounce you three married and bonded souls, husband and wife and spouse, by the customs of monsters since millennia past. Er… kiss however you three can manage!” Gerson’s words and the audience cheers that followed felt distant in my ears as the laughter of my husband and wife filled my mind, as I jumped up into Asgore’s arms and pressed my lips to his, Toriel hugging us both from the side and kissing my cheek. The moment felt like forever, pure happiness the only thought in my mind. I loved my dorks more than anything in the world, and now they were truly, fully, mine. When I finally pulled back from Asgore, there was a quick moment where we just giggled, but then I felt Toriel turn me towards her, and quickly figuring out what she wanted, I wrapped my arms around her neck instead and kissed her, deeply, as I finally lost control of my tears. When she pulled back, I looked between them, and saw that we were all crying of joy. They grinned as they kissed each other, hugging with me inbetween.

Squished between them, hugging them both the best I could, I felt exactly how I wanted. Loved, more than anything or anyone else in the world. I was the luckiest human, to get exactly what I wanted. The most loving, caring, big, soft, fluffy, affectionate, dorky husband and wife in the world. And they were mine. I nuzzled into Toriel’s chest, until she and Asgore broke away, and the three of us stepped back into our hand-holding circle, then broke to face the audience, me in the middle. As I looked across all the smiling faces of the people I cared about, cheering for me and my husband and my wife… Well, I certainly didn’t stop crying yet. It was then that Gerson tapped my shoulder, and I turned around to see him holding a small crown… and I remembered that we weren’t quite done. Asgore and Toriel looked down at me with a smile and nodded, and I knelt down and closed my eyes.

“There is one more thing for us to do here.” Asgore’s voice boomed across the crowd, as he waited for them to settle down. “By the rules of the monster kingdom ever since my house took the throne, while there is only one line of succession, any married partners of the reigning monarch are considered to be rulers in their own right, of equal power. While this usually simply results in a diarchy, today, Toriel and I have taken another partner of full legal relationship status as we have to each other. Thus… it is an honor to, alongside my wife and queen, crown our new spouse, [M/N] Dreemurr, as the third ruling triarch of our kingdom!” He grinned as he and Toriel took the crown together, and lowered it onto my head. Another cheer filled the air, as I stood up, carefully keeping the crown on my head as I grabbed my co-rulers paws again. I smiled down at the crowd, and I knew… everything was going to be alright. For my beloved partners… September 15th would be a good day again. The day they made me theirs.

The next few hours were a blur. The reception was wonderful, just as elaborate and joyful as the ceremony itself, and I couldn’t stop giving Asgore and Toriel quick little kisses, which they eagerly returned. When we finally returned home, we could barely keep off each other. We were all so happy, so in love, so joyous to be with each other. The end of that day was… perfect, to me. By the time we finally settled down, our fancy clothes tossed aside, tired from a long and… eventful day, it must have been nearly midnight. As I cuddled up between them in bed, sleep finally starting to approach, I nuzzled into Asgore’s neck as I whispered, “Thank you, my dorks… that was the best day of my life.”

“So far, my dork.” Asgore murmured deeply, kissing my forehead. “Oh, there’s so much we still have to do with you. But yes, today was very good.”

“It was wonderful.” Toriel added, nuzzling into my shoulder from behind, kissing it softly. “You looked so good, all dressed up with the flower and crown… I’m so happy it all went well.”

“Of course it did, dear, you planned it all out.” Asgore giggled. “And you are the best planner.”

“Thank you, darling… but I can still be glad it went well.”

“It went so well!” I laughed. “I was so worried about it for nothing.”

“Well, now there is no need to worry. It is done, and Toriel and I get to spend the rest of your life spoiling you to death.” Asgore smirked.

“W… will you now?”

“Oh, what a wonderful idea, Fluffybuns. We’ll really have to take good care of you, dear. Make sure that our precious spouse is never down for too long~”

“O, oh… g.. God…” I giggled, smiling.

“Indeed we will… you’ll never have to worry again, my love… Your fluffy husband loves you more than the world.” Asgore said sweetly.

“As does your furry wife.” Toriel cooed with him. “Now, let’s get some rest…”

“Sleep well, my new spouse.” Asgore purred.

“Good night, my little dork.” She whispered.

“Good night, my furry dork…” I murmured back.

“Yes, good night, my little dork.” he repeated.

“And good night, my fluffy dork.” I giggled. “We should find a less repetitive way of saying good night.”

“Nonsense. This works well enough.” Toriel giggled sleepily as she leaned over to kiss Asgore. “Good night to you, my fluffybuns.”

“And good night to you, my furryface.” He chuckled as he kissed back. And with that, the three of us fell silent, nuzzling into each other’s warmth, my monsters purring contently as we slipped into sleep, as a married trio, for the first time.

Chapter Text

“Good mor~ning!” A gentle voice sang in my ear, stirring me awake. “Do you know what day it is~?”

“Er… Friday… our anniversary?” Toriel’s laugh filled my mind, as I opened my eyes to see her smiling face up against mine.

“That’s right! And it’s your turn to be surprised!” Before I could respond, she kissed me warmly, quickly pulling back with the giddiest look on her face. “C’mon! Asgore’s almost done with breakfast.”

“T… Tori, I just woke up!” I laughed, groaning as I tried to sit up, rubbing my eyes.

“Yeah, sleepyhead, but you won’t wake up if you just stay in bed.” She held out her paws, inviting me to take them. “It’ll be great, just get up!” I sighed, rolling my eyes with a smiled as I took them, and she yanked me up into her arms, giggling as she lifted me up out of bed and pulled me against her chest.

“Tori!” I chuckled, quickly wrapping my arms around her neck as she carried me out of the bedroom. “You gotta tell me if you’re gonna do that!”

“Next time.” She looked down at me, winking. “But I wanted to surprise you!”

“You certainly did!” I whined in protest.

“And I know you like it, dear~” She cooed, leaning down to boop her snout against my nose. “My little dork.”

“Yeah, yeah…” I sighed, blushing furiously. “You know me well.”

“I better! I’ve known you for what, six years now? And I’m your wife!” She laughed. “I know just how to tease you, [M/N].”

“You sure do! It’s not fair!” I pouted, groaning. “Why do I not know how to tease you?”

“Because, dear, I’m unteasable. You and Gorey, however, have the most obvious buttons to press in the world.” Toriel smirked as she carried me into the large living room of the cabin we were staying in for the weekend, setting me down on the couch. “Isn’t that right, Go~rey darling?”

“Hmm? What is it, Tori?” Asgore’s voice came out of the kitchen around the corner in a jovial tone. “Is our lovely spouse finally up?”

“They sure are, Gorey!” She called back, paws on her hips as she grinned down at me. “Is our breakfast ready?”

“It sure is! I’ll be out in a second!” He called.

“So, what is for breakfast?” I asked, tilting my head to the side.

“Our favorite! Chocolate chip waffles and some nice golden flower tea!” She beamed. “And some eggs and bacon, too. Figured that we’ll be hungry.”

“Sounds great!” I smiled, and she nodded, sitting down next to me.

“Good… I wanted to make sure this morning was special. It is our only first anniversary, after all!” Toriel giggled, wrapping her arm around me. “And you set up this vacation, so it’s only fair we did breakfast.”

“Thank you, Tori….” I laughed, leaning into her and gently closing my eyes. “Mm… you’re so warm…”

“Am I now? You’re still sleepy, aren’t you?” She smiled, hugging me closer.

“A little… you did wake me up.” I sighed, nuzzling against her robe. “I was having a nice dream…”

“Oh really? What about?”

“Nothing much… just the three of us on a walk by the beach. It was a bit wonky, as dreams are, but… nice.”

“That does sound nice.” She spoke softly, beginning to stroke my head gently. “You know, we can just go do that in real life.”

“Yeah, I know.” I chuckled softly. “But it’s good to dream about too. You looked so beautiful…”

“Did I now?”

“Just like you always do… but I think the dream made it even better.”

“I’m glad your mind is so flattering to me.” She giggled. “What about Asgore?”

“Oh, he looked great too. Had that flower pattern tank top of his… was a little too small on him too.” I chuckled, the image still clear in my head of his furry belly peeking out of the bottom.

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” Toriel laughed, before pausing and blushing. “It is a rather good look on him, though.””

“It sure fucking is!” I laughed, and soon a deep hearty laugh joined in.

“What is what, dears?” Asgore asked as he came around the corner, setting a tray full of food down on the coffee table in front of us before hopping onto the couch on my other side, making both Toriel and I jump a little.

“Gorey!” I grinned as I leaned over and hugged him, and he quickly wrapped his arms around me in return.

“Howdy, deary, happy anniversary!” He said in a loud, boisterous voice, patting my back. “Hard to believe we’ve been married a whole year.”

“It is… Thank you for making breakfast!” I giggled, nuzzling into his chest. “You’re the best~”

“Oh ho ho, it’s nothing, love. Certainly not on our anniversary!” He kissed my forehead, nuzzling his chin against me. “You know we always want to spoil you. We promised that last year, didn’t we?” He giggled, leaning back to flash a smirk.

“Yes, you did… and this is certainly quite the breakfast.” I laughed, turning to it and taking a plate eagerly. “Are we… just gonna eat it here on the couch?’

“Yes, I hope that won’t be too difficult…” Asgore began.

“But we wanted it to be nice and comfy while not just being in bed.” Toriel finished, smiling. “We are renting this place after all… best not make too many messes in bed.” She winked.

“Toriel!” Asgore fake gasped, holding his paw to his chest. “Are you saying we would make a mess?”

“I know we would, dear, don’t act surprised.” She smirked at him, crossing her arms. “You know I’m the one who does the bed laundry at home. I assure you, we do.”

“Alright, alright!” I said, blushing furiously. “I just got up, keep the innuendos for later!”

“Aw, really? I’m just getting started!” Toriel laughed. “But if you insist. C’mon, let’s eat all of this before it gets cold.”

“I just finished making it, Tori, I think we have a while.”

“Asgore, I think she’s just hungry.” I gestured to her as she leaned over and took her own plate, quickly filling it up.

“Ah. Well, I think we all are…” He raised an eyebrow at me as I began piling waffles onto my plate. “Eh?”

“Shut up and just get your own too many waffles…” I grumbled, blushing.

“With pleasure!” He smiled, taking half of the remaining ones and slapping them onto the last plate. “These are my favorite, after all. But I do prefer when one of you makes them.”

“Well, then you could have asked me to.” Toriel said with a mouthful of waffle. “But you insisted on doing it all yourself!”

“That’s Azzy for you, isn’t it?” I smiled as I took a sip of my tea. “You know he likes cooking for us. You’re the baker, and I…” I looked down, furrowing my brow. “Uh, I fill in when it’s for either of you.”

“And you do a great job, dear.” Asgore chuckled, rubbing my shoulder. “You make some good sandwiches when we go on picnics too, don’t forget.”

“I suppose…”

“A~nd, you do a great job at ours when it’s for us.” Toriel added, smiling. “You don’t need to worry about feeling like you don’t have anything special like us, you know.”

“I wasn’t… what are you talking about?” My face burned as I tried to hide my embarrassment. I… certainly couldn’t lie outwardly and say that I hadn’t felt like that sometimes. Asgore and Toriel tried so hard to make me feel like I was equal to them… but when your husband and wife are such spectacular, royal monsters… it is a bit hard to think of yourself as as good as them.

“[M/N]...” Their smiles faded in unison as they looked down at me. “You do know that, right?” Toriel leaned down, putting her paw on my back. “You’re special to us. Even if you don’t feel like you have anything special… you are.”

“Am I?” I sighed. “Like, really?”

“Of course you are. You know what’s special about you, dear?” Asgore said softly, leaning in close to my face.

“What?”

“You always know just what to do for us, and you know when we need it.” He spoke gently, reaching up to run his thumb across my cheek. “On days like today. And any other time we feel down. You remind me that I have a family again, and that humans and monsters have a lovely future together.” He moved to wipe a tear from my cheek- I was crying? I hadn’t even noticed…- and leaned in to kiss my forehead. “I love you. You truly are the most incredible human in the world to me.”

“Asgore…” I almost laughed, but it came out as more of a sob. “You… really mean all of that?”

“Of course I do.” He nodded, chuckling. “I did marry you, after all.”

“He’s right about all of that, dear.” Toriel leaned over and nuzzled my neck. “You’re wonderful. Our little dork.”

“Gorey, Tori…” I chuckled, hugging them both close. “I don't deserve all of this…”

“Yes you do! You deserve all the breakfast and hugs and kisses in the world!” Asgore laughed, kissing me on the cheek. “C’mon Tori, I think our little dork needs some spoiling…”

“Oh, you are quite right, Gorey…” Toriel giggled as she began kissing my other cheek.

“T.. Tori! Gorey!” I began to laugh, unable to control myself as the two of them buried me in kisses, their fur and Asgore’s beard tickling my face and their paws tickling my belly. All the doubt in my mind seemed to flood away as the two of them kissed and tickled and laughed with me, and I remembered just how lucky I was. They loved me, and I loved them. And that wasn’t going to change now, even as we settled into our lives together.

“Don’t you complain, dear! I know you love this!” Toriel said in between smooches, grinning widely.

“I do! I do! I’m not!” I choked out in between laughs, struggling to try and reach over and tickle her back.

“H.. Hey! No, we’re spoiling you!” She tried to brush my hands away, turning to Asgore. “Dear, don’t let them deflect!”

“Of course!” Asgore smirked as he grabbed my hand, kissing it a few times before moving up my arm. “We’re gonna make sure you know that we love you more than anything, and don’t you dare try and stop us!”

“G.. Gorey, I know, I’m not…!” I struggled to protest, but soon just gave in to his kisses, laughing and laughing as they continued, until finally, they began to slow down, both breathing heavily.

“Alright, alright, I think that is enough… do you believe us now, dork?” Toriel asked, her eyes shining with excitement.

“Yes, yes, I do!” I chuckled, struggling to regain my own breath after so much tickling. “I’m sorry for doubting you…”

“Good. We aren’t going to ever let you forget it. Especially not on our anniversary!” Asgore giggled. “Now, let’s finish eating, eh?”

“Yeah… let’s.” I nodded, and the three of us went back to eating. Our discussion turned to what we would do that day. The cabin was at the edge of a large nature park, so I suggested that we could just go for a hike down to the waterfall that was about an hour’s walk away. The both loved the idea, and Asgore asked if I could make lunch to take with us and eat when we got there. Toriel loved the idea, and I agreed. So as they cleaned up from breakfast, I made us each sandwiches, packing them up neat and tidy and loading them into a picnic basket. After we all changed into more appropriate clothes, we headed out.

The path to the waterfall was beautiful and surrounded by flowers, much to Asgore’s delight. He regaled us with all the facts and comments on all the varieties we passed by, perhaps to a degree others might have found boring, but to us, it was all so interesting coming from him. The sun slowly rose over the trees as we hiked, the light dappling all over us, giving me some very beautiful views of my monsters. Sunlight just seemed to make their fur shine in some circumstances… It was something that made me appreciate them all the more. After about an hour and a half (we got quite sidetracked by some of Asgore’s flower talk), we made it to the waterfall. It was a lovely view- though it wasn’t the highest waterfall, it certainly felt large, and created a small rainbow over the crystal blue pool of water at the base. We sat down by the edge, set out a blanket, and had our lunch. Toriel and Asgore were, of course, quick to compliment my sandwiches. The three of us had a lovely time, talking and talking about whatever thing crossed our minds, barely making progress on our lunch. By the time we were finished, the light was beginning to slide away from the river, and it seemed like the rainbow was about to vanish.

“Oh!” Toriel exclaimed as we were cleaning up. “We should take a picture before the rainbow goes! Wouldn’t it be cute if it was over our heads?”

“That’s a lovely idea, Tori!” Asgore grinned, setting down the blanket. “Come over here by the edge, [M/N], I’ll pick you up so you can fit!”

“Oh, I don’t know if that’s--!” I stopped as he picked me up with ease, holding me up against his chest.

“C’mere, Tori, get your phone out, quick!”

“I’m coming!” She laughed, pulling it out and opening the camera as she ran over to us. “Alright, let me just find a good angle… there we go!” I looked into the camera, seeing the three of us all smiling widely as the rainbow sat just over our heads, behind their horns. In that moment, I knew for sure… it was all going to be great. And I loved my dorks more than anything.

Chapter Text

From the moment I woke up that morning, I knew it was going to be a good day. It was a fine Saturday morning, as it always seemed to be that day- that perfect sort of warm day as summer gave into fall, the breeze keeping the air comfortable enough to be plenty enjoyable. The soft rustling of the leaves outside the window was the first thing I heard as I slowly opened my eyes, before it was joined by a deep rumbling from beside me. It was, at this point, a perfectly familiar and comforting sound. “Mm, morning, Azzy.”

“Mm, good morning, your majesty.” The boss monster’s purrs faded back beneath his voice with a husky chuckle, his large paw gently tracing circles over your belly. “I was wondering who’d get up first.”

“How long have you been up?” I muttered sleepily, trying to focus my eyes on his face.

“Ah, just a few minutes. It’s nice to just watch you two rest…” Asgore smiled down at me with a half-awake gaze. “Tori’s still sound asleep. Figures, she really tired herself out last night.”

“Well, the house still smells like cookies and pie, so I think it’ll be worth it.” I chuckled, moving in close to nuzzle up against his chest. He slid his paw around to my back in turn, pulling me in close.

“Oh, I’m sure it will be, your majesty…” He sighed contently. “Our queen’s quite the baker.”

“She sure is…” I pulled myself up a little to look over his shoulder, giggling a little at the sight of Toriel spread out on his other side, chest rising and falling slowly. “I thought she was all cuddled up with us when she came to bed…”

“Well, she rolled off me and spread out pretty fast.” Asgore laughed, rolling his eyes with a grin. “You know how she can be when she’s exhausted.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.” I nodded, nuzzling back into his chest, letting his beard tickle my head as he continued to rub my back. We stayed quiet for a moment, just taking in the feeling of closeness. It was something he had really begun encouraging me to do- to enjoy the quiet moments. It had been seven years since we had gotten to know each other, and I think the passing of time for me had already begun to gnaw at the back of their minds. Sometimes, I would complain about some random new pain, my growing distance from being perfectly up to date on all the popular things, or just directly mentioning my age, and I’d catch either of them seem to freeze for a moment- the slightest frown crossing their face, the forlorn look in their eyes. And of course, it was always a bit worse this time of year. It almost made it worse that I knew exactly what troubled them. It wasn’t an easy thought for me to bear either. But I was human- a human growing older just as they all did, and even though I was still just in my 30’s, I could tell that every reminder the two boss monsters had that they would stay as they were and outlive me was painful. It was probably why Asgore was stressing that to me. It was something on his own mind- to remember not to waste a moment we had together. I pulled away, looking up at him as I sighed.

“Are… you going to be alright, today?” Asgore seemed surprised at the question, before looking aside as his lips tightened.

“I’ll be okay, dear.” He seemed to force a smile, though it became more natural as he pulled his paw up to rub his thumb over my cheek. “I have you and Tori. It’s our anniversary! We’re going to have a lovely day together and go to the fair… and, well, the rest is her idea that I’ll let her say.” He blushed, looking aside again with a bit of a mischievous grin on his face.

“Oh, and what sort of idea might that be?” I grinned, tracing my finger over his chest with a teasing tone in my voice.

“Y… you know Tori, she’s always got some ideas to surprise you! And she said to make sure it’s a surprise.” His face grew redder and he groaned a little. “I already… kinda gave you a hint!”

“What hint?” I raised my eyebrow. “We haven’t said anything weird… I don’t know, did you?”

“Well, you’re just going to have to wait then.” He smirked goofily, clearly a bit pleased that I couldn’t figure out what he meant.

“Ughhh, fiiiine.” I groaned, slamming my face back down into his chest, earring a laugh out of him.

“Are you just going to rub your face in my fur until she wakes up now?”

“Yes.” I huffed, and he chuckled again as he went back to rubbing my back.

“Quite the little tantrum thrower when you want to be, aren’t you?” Asgore leaned down to kiss the top of my head, before leaning back in bed with a sigh. “You might be getting a little old for that, you know.”

“Nonsense. I’m just like this.” I nuzzled into his fur, giggling a little. “I’m just a whiny little human, at any age.”

“I would say it’ll be less cute when you’re fifty, but you’ll always be cute to us.” He grinned, winking down at me.

“Exactly.” I nodded, and we laughed together, before the room fell quiet, and Asgore’s voice seemed to catch in his throat.

“You… do know, we’ll always love you, right? You’ll always be cute to us, even when you… get older, and…”

“Asgore.” I leaned back to cradle my hand over his cheek. “I know. But let’s not worry too much about that now, okay? We’ve got plenty of time.”

“R… right.” His eyes glanced down to my hand, before closing as he leaned into it, letting me run my thumb over his cheek. “Sorry, it’s just… today especially, I can’t help but think about… losing family.”

“I know, Azzy. But it’s alright. It’s… tough, for you. But Tori and I are here for you to talk about it.” I frowned as I watched him continue to nuzzle into my palm, before he nodded slowly.

“You’re right. You always are, about these things.” He chuckled weakly, opening his eyes to gaze towards me with a half-lidded look. “You really are a wonderful human, dear.”

“Then be glad we met so soon. We’re lucky to have as much time as we will.” I leaned up to press my lips against his, and he returned the gesture with a slight smile, running his paw down my back. When I pulled away, I whispered to him softly, “I love you, Asgore.” He was quiet for a moment, before saying it back.

“I love you too, [M/N]. For whatever time we have… we’ll spend it together.” His smile grew more determined as he pulled me forward with his paw, gently pushing me to slide my legs around his belly and kneel over him, my face looking down over his rather than below his chin where it had been. “You’re so beautiful, you know. My handsome little triarch.”

“Oh, and look who’s talking, my king. You are just the handsomest, most beautiful man in the world, you are.” I leaned down to kiss him again, this time both of us engaged with a bit more passion, and chuckled as we separated.

“Oh, but you flatter me, your majesty, I simply insist that you are more of both.” He smirked, reaching up with his other paw to cradle my cheek in return. “I would do anything for you. Fulfill whatever wish or desire, attend to your every need, and–”

“Heyyy, Gorey, are you doing my plan without me~?” Toriel’s sleepy voice murmured, startling us both as we turned to look at her. She had rolled over to face us, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. I looked between them, a little confused, but Asgore just blushed, laughing sheepishly.

“Aww, sorry dear, I tried to hold out! But I can’t help myself with our little dork here!” He turned back to me, clearly amused by the confused look on my face. “I suppose it’s time for Tori to explain her idea.”

“Were you just doing it without telling them?” Toriel laughed, smirking eagerly up at me as she snuggled up to Asgore’s side. “Well, I figured, since it’s our anniversary… We could try something fun today. How’d you like to really be our ruler for the day?”

“And… what do you mean by that?” I raised my eyebrow, though I could already guess what she meant by the look on her face.

“We’ll be all yours today. Whatever you want us to do, we’ll do for you, your majesty. Whatever desires you may have… if you know what I’m implying.” She giggled, very proud of her own idea. “Just think of it, the king and queen of monsters, following your every command, treating you as their ruler…” My face began to burn as I nodded along.

“Uh, yeah, I get the idea.”

“Well, do you like it?” Toriel looked up at me expectantly. “It’s okay if you don’t, it is a bit… out there, but…” Now it was her turn to blush, as she nuzzled against Asgore’s shoulder. “To be honest, I’ve just been curious about the idea of letting you be in charge.”

“Oh, Tori…” I chuckled nervously, laying back down on Asgore’s chest. “I dunno, we’re going to be like… out at the fair later, right?”

“Yeah. But it’s up to you whether we do anything out of the ordinary there.” She winked, reaching over to wrap her arm around my back, her paw over Asgore’s. “We could just have a relaxing evening, or you could make us win you a new Snaily, or…”

“Let’s do it.” I nodded, grinning. “But maybe we can save something that… bold for another time.”

“Fair enough.” Toriel nodded, looking over to Asgore. “You alright with that, dear? Wanna serve our dork for the day?”

“I was already planning on it.” Asgore grinned, winking at me. “So, your majesty, what should we do for you first?”

“Oh, well…” I rolled off of Asgore and pulled myself up, rubbing my chin while I looked down at them. “I mean, I have ideas, but…”

“Don’t hold back, your majesty. Whatever you like!” Toriel giggled, propping herself up over Asgore’s chest.

“Well then…” I trailed off, grinning as I looked between them. Whatever I liked? Well, isn't that an invitation...

Later in the morning, I was sitting at the counter in the kitchen, while Toriel was making crêpes and Asgore was making tea. “So, your majesty, when do you want to go to the fair?” Toriel asked in a sing-songy tone.

“Well, it opens at 10, right?” I looked over to the clock on the microwave, and shrugged. “It’s 9 now, we can probably just go after we eat.”

“Sounds good, your majesty.” Asgore nodded, taking the kettle off the oven as he poured three cups of tea.

“Can we figure out something else to call me? I feel like you both have called me ‘your majesty’ about 50 times in the last couple hours.” I chuckled.

“Well… we can call you ‘triarch,’ but that doesn’t really have the same ring to it.” Asgore shrugged. “Would… you be alright if we called you ‘king’ or ‘queen?’”

“Sure. Just keep mixing it up, I guess?” I groaned, crossing my arms. “Very annoying there isn’t a better word for that.”

“Well, if you don’t mind breaking the game a little, we can just call you your name.” Toriel chuckled.

“Aww, but that’s no fun!” Asgore grinned, nudging Toriel lightly. “It was your idea, we should at least try and stick to it.”

“Okay, fine!” Toriel huffed, nudging him back. “‘King [M/N].’ How about that?”

“Works for me!” I laughed, waving over at Asgore. “Now, is that tea ready or what?”

“Yes, yes, apologies, my queen.” He laughed, picking up one of the teacups and setting it down in front of me with an exaggerated fanciful movement. “Your breakfast tea, exactly as you like, two spoonfuls of milk and a dash of sugar.”

“Thank you, Asgore.” I chuckled, nodding as I picked it up and took a sip. “Mm, lovely as always.”

“Only the best for your majesty.” He smiled, putting his paws behind his back and bowing. “I know your taste well.”

“Indeed you do.” I continued to sip the tea, sighing contently. “How are the crêpes coming along, Toriel?”

“Just fine, your majesty!” She smiled, turning around to face me. “Shouldn’t be more than a couple minutes. Are you sure you don’t want anything else?”

“No, they’ll be enough. I think we’ll be having enough food at the fair later, won’t we?” I shrugged. “I don’t wanna stuff myself now.”

“Fair enough.” Toriel nodded. “After all, we’ll be getting you whatever you li~ke!” She said the last word in a bit of a teasing voice, which earned a laugh from Asgore.

“Dear, I’m not sure that’s the right tone to be talking to our king with.”

“Ah, right.” She blushed, chuckling as she bowed to me quickly. “Sorry about that, your majesty.”

“Oh, don’t worry, Toriel, I am not that strict a ruler.” I puffed up my chest, holding back a giggle. “I may be your queen, but I am no tyrant.”

“And aren’t we grateful for that?” Asgore chuckled, walking over to my side.

“Very.” Toriel laughed, nodding along as she turned back to the oven.

“Mm, and what are you cozying up for, Asgore? You want to give your king a massage?” I looked up at Asgore, who nodded as he came up behind me, and began rubbing my shoulders with his big, soft paws. “Ooh, yeah… you’re so good at that.”

“I have plenty of years of practice, after all.” Asgore cooed, smiling as he leaned in to kiss the top of my head. “I hope you don’t mind a few kisses while I work. It’s so hard to resist such a strong, beautiful ruler…”

“Oh, I could could never mind kisses from you.” I grinned, leaning back into his belly as he continued to massage my shoulders. “What better way for you to prove your loyalty? The powerful king of monsters, unable to help himself from pampering his new human queen… it’s such a good look for you.” I paused for a moment, thinking over what I had said, before chuckling. “God, I sound so silly. We can’t be talking like this in front of people at the fair…”

“Aww, c’mon, your majesty, it’s all part of the fun.” Asgore laughed deeply, making my head bounce on his stomach. “Don’t worry too much about it. It’s just our little game. And after all…” He leaned down to whisper to me, “What does it matter what any old subject says about their king and their consorts? No one gets to tell you what to do today. You’re in charge~”

“Asgore…” A shiver ran down my spine as he whispered, and I leaned back against him, my face burning red. “G… Got it.”

“Good.” He nodded, standing back up as he returned to massaging. “Don’t forget that, alright, your majesty?”

“I… I won’t.” I stammered out, still very flustered from his whispering. Toriel turned around, and chuckled when she saw my face.

“Oh, Asgore, don’t break them so early in the morning!” She quickly finished plating the crêpes and brought them over to me. “Anyway, here’s your breakfast, my queen! My finest crêpes.”

“Thank you, Toriel!” I nodded, picking up the fork on the plate and looking up at Asgore. “Alright, I think we can pause the massages so you can eat.”

“Yes, I would appreciate that.” He nodded, sitting down next to me as Toriel went and brought both of their breakfasts over. “Thank you, dear.”

“Of course, Gorey.” Toriel smiled, leaning over to kiss his cheek before she sat down on my other side. “So, what do you think, your majesty?”

“I haven’t eaten any yet!” I noted, cutting off a bite with my fork before putting it in my mouth. “Ah, it’s just as good as Asgore’s tea! Thank you very much, Toriel.” I swallowed it quickly, before leaning over to give her a kiss on the cheek.

“Oh, thank you, my king, you flatter me.” She laughed, and we all fell quiet as we ate our breakfast, finishing it rather quickly. After they cleaned up the dishes, we gathered or tthings and headed out for the fair. It had become an annual thing after they had first held it a few years ago, though we hadn’t been since the first time. This year’s was especially celebratory, as it had now been ten years since the monsters had been freed, and the organizers had seemed to go all out for it. I had heard some of the plans of the scale, since the organizers had had to pass things by us (mainly Asgore), but as we neared the field at the edge of the more developed center of the city, just how big it was truly sank in. I asked Asgore to let me ride in on his shoulders to get a better view, and of course, he obliged (though I’m sure he would have regardless of whether or not he was following all my wishes today). It was always a bit of a balancing act to get up on him- while him being much bigger than me made it easier for him to hold me and stay balanced, being up even higher than I would be on a normal human or monster’s shoulders made it trickier for me. I clung on tightly to his horns as we entered, looking around eagerly.

“Man, they really outdid themselves for this…” I looked down at Toriel, who was chuckling as she looked around in surprise.

“Clearly… Did we tell you that Papyrus was involved in planning?” She smirked up at me, and I shook my head with a smile.

“Ah, that explains it.”

“He’s really figured out what he’s good at up here, hasn’t he?” Asgore chortled, shaking me a little and making me cling onto his horns tighter.

“Asgore, careful!”

“Oh, sorry your majesty!” Asgore blushed, straightening himself up. “Didn’t mean to disturb you up there. Are you going to come down now that we're here?”

“Yeah, you can put me down.” I nodded, and he squatted down, letting me slide off his back. We both stretched out as we stood back up, and I gave his back a quick rub as he reached his arms out over his head.

“That is certainly not getting any easier…” Asgore sighed as he swung his arms around himself, earning a chuckle from Toriel.

“You aren’t getting any older, dear, surely practicing would make it easier?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Well, I may not be getting any older, but your big delicious meals are making our queen a little bigger, you recall.”

“That is true. You do treat your royal highness with the best, most filling food they’ve ever had.” I smirked at her, and she blushed, waving her paw.

“Alright, alright, I get it! You’re very welcome for that, by the way, your majesty.” She teased, leaning over to rub my belly quickly. I groaned, face burning red.

“Alright, you know what? For that, you have to earn your king their first midway prize.” I smirked, putting my hands on my hips, and Asgore chuckled behind me.

“I would be honored to, your majesty.” Toriel stuck her tongue out at me playfully. “I think the midway is down past the craft tent, you want us to head down there now?”

“Right away, Toriel!” I laughed, pointing in the direction. “Lead the way for your queen, won’t you?”

“Yes, your majesty!” She grinned, hurrying off down the path. Asgore rolled his eyes, grinning as he scooped me up into his arms.

“Don’t you worry, my queen, your liege-king’s got you!” We both chuckled as I leaned into his chest, wrapping my arms around his neck as he set off after her.

“Oh, thank you, Asgore… I’ll really have to reward you later, taking the initiative to take such good care of me.” I giggled, kissing his cheek.

“It’s no problem, your majesty. Just doing my job~” He winked down at me, before leaning in to nuzzle my cheek with a giggle of his own. “We really should do this again, it’s fun.”

“Oh, ab-so-lutely.” I nodded, grinning. “Now let’s catch up with her!”

“Right, right!” Asgore nodded, looking back up at Toriel. “Don’t go too far now, dear!”

Notes:

Six fucking years! I have done this six times!! Wild!!!

Well, you may notice this one ends a little early... well, I'm cheating. I've been busy with school this week so I'm even more behind than I normally am (and this was going to be a *long* chapter) so I'm posting this draft-y version now, and hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll be able to finish it! No promises (I am terrible with writing deadlines- if you're aware of my bowser/reader fic I am so sorry. If you followed my Asgoriel reunion fic, I am even sorrier.) but I'll do my best! I might also make a separate nsfw fic to put that cut-away scene in... stay tuned, I suppose! The roleplaying idea was my boyfriend's, and obviously I'd love to get horny with it, but I figure I'll keep it aside from the main fic just in case.

Well, as always, thank you very much for reading! If you're checking in on this annually I am amazed and very grateful. Comments appreciated as always!

Chapter Text

Another year, another anniversary- they just seem to keep coming, don’t they? And yet, like any other day, it began when I rolled over in bed with a groan onto Toriel’s shoulder, jumping a little at her sleepy laugh.

“You tired there, darling?” She whispered sweetly as I looked up at her with a blush, reaching my hand over her belly.

“Yeah. Big night yesterday.” I murmured back, shrugging. “It wasn’t so bad, once I got started. You sort of just… slip into the mindset for it?” I ran back over the events of the previous night in my mind. I had given a speech for Freedom Day all on my own, a part of a motion by Asgore and Toriel to try and let me step into the role of ruler a little more. It wasn’t the first time, technically, but it was the first time it was about something so important. I had been sweating about it for weeks, practicing over and over to them, still doubting myself despite all their reassurances it was coming along well. I was practically shaking the whole day yesterday until the speech, and had barely made it through the congratulations before getting home and collapsing into bed.

“Yes, you do. And you did wonderfully, darling. I’m so proud of my little human.” Toriel leaned over and kissed my forehead, her eyes shimmering like rubies as they so often did when she looked at me. “You’ve come a long way since we met.”

“I’ve grown up, yeah.” I affirmed, rubbing my hand over her belly absentmindedly. “It’s a lot thanks to you two.”

“Glad to be of assistance to you.” She purred beneath her words at my touch, her own paw sliding over to my back to pull me up closer. “I feel so lucky, to have met such a wonderful human so quickly. To get to grow with you.”

“Grow how?” I asked, warmth filling my face as I felt her claws drawing little circles on my skin. “You’re already so grown. You’ve been through so much.”

“Sure I have… but I’ve never been with you before. I’ve never had to teach a human about being monster royalty. It’s certainly been a while since Gorey and I had a third!” She laughed gently, trying to keep quiet as Asgore was still asleep beside us. “It’s still growing. You never really stop, you know.”

“I know that.” I squeezed her side playfully, giving her a little grin. “But it is still a little hard to imagine you learning all that much from me.”

“Well, I learn about your interests. About human culture and history. Everything that’s happened in the world while we were… away.”

“That feels… less. It’s not really personal growth, it’s just… being filled in.”

“It’s growth to me!” Toriel chuckled, patting my back. “Don’t be so resistant. My point is… I appreciate getting to be with you too.”

“Okay, okay!” I giggled, leaning in to nuzzle against her neck, and she gladly nuzzled her chin on my head. We cuddled together quietly for a minute, before another arm wrapped around us and Asgore sleepily dropped his chin onto Toriel’s shoulder, looking at us through half-awake eyes.

“G’morning, dears… mm, what are you talking about?”

“Oh, just how lucky we are to have each other.” Toriel cooed, looking back at him with a smile. “Of course, we’re lucky to have you too, aren’t we dear?”

“Of course! I’ve got the two hottest, coolest, sweetest monsters in the whole world in my life. And now I’ve been married to them for three years!” I chimed in, beaming up at him. Asgore just laughed deeply, his low voice rumbling through us as he squeezed us as tight as he could.

“That’s my dorks~” He said in a sweet, sing-songy tone, patting my back. “I’m the real lucky monster, though. That you forgave me for all this, Toriel, and that we got to meet you afterwards.”

“Aww, of course I ended up forgiving you, you big softie.” Toriel turned over to face him, smirking before planting a kiss on his cheek. “And I’m very glad I did. I can’t imagine I’d be… feeling this good today, if it weren’t for you two.”

“Oh, right… I almost forgot that’s today as well.” Asgore sighed, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. “If only.”

“Gorey…” She frowned, reaching over to stroke his cheek, rubbing her thumb across the edge of his beard. “It’s alright. Just remember that… they’d be happy we’ve got a happy life again.”

“Yes, yes, I know. No need to dwell on the past when my future is right here.” He leaned into her paw, looking back over at me, his mismatched eyes glimmering as he forced himself to smile. “A life with you, [M/N].”

“Asgore, you don’t need to force yourself to pretend like I’m–” I blushed, starting to protest, but he just shook his head and pulled his paw up to rub my shoulder as he interjected.

“You are that important to me. I already know what you might say, but you are my future, [M/N].” He said my name so sternly, glaring in that way he only did when he was truly serious. “A future where I have had not just a human child, but a human partner, a human co-ruler! You gave a wonderful speech last night, and I knew you would. You may not realize it, but you do so much to further peace between our kinds.” I couldn’t help but smile as his compliments, my heart beating heavily, over my mind as I tried to respond.

“I really appreciate that, but, I… well, I’m just… I want to help. I want to further peace. Because I want to live a long life with you, long and happy and safe…”

“And so do I! But you do not need to be so modest about your work. Together we have shown that monsters and humans don’t have to have ill will towards another. That we can choose to make families together. I know that monsters and humans will be okay… because we’re happy together. I have found myself worrying less, about what the future may hold for my people, even after Tori and I are gone. Because we– the three of us– have proved to everyone that we can co-exist now.” Asgore’s smile was wider now, not forced, but sincere as can be. Toriel jumped in, rubbing my other shoulder with a beaming grin of her own.

“We mean so much to others, I just know it. Even if it just feels like our little life to you, happy together… we’re happy because of what we mean, too. That means so much to us. We chose to give today to you, [M/N]. So it wouldn’t be just a day to remember who we lost… but who we gained too.” I sniffled, tears welling in my eyes as I reached out to hug them both, laughing weakly as I pulled them close.

“Oh, you two… sweet, loveable, dorks!” I choked out, as they giggled and nuzzled into my shoulders.

“I think you’re really the most loveable dork of us.” Toriel teased. “And that’s why you’re the best!”

“Exactly.” Asgore affirmed, nodding. “It’s our anniversary! Today is about us now. That’s what matters. How about we go have some breakfast? To celebrate!”

“Mm, how about I make us some omelettes? And you can make us some tea, Asgore!” Toriel offered cheerfully. “Mm, but what could you do, darling? I wouldn’t want to leave you out.”

“Well… I suppose I could make us muffins, or something like that, but it might take a bit…” I offered, and Asgore nodded happily.

“Oh, that would be perfect! They would probably be done in time for us to eat them when we’re finished with our main meal.” He let go of us, and rolled off of the bed, stretching his arms out as he shook his mane out of his face. “Wouldn’t that just be perfect?”

“It would be, just like you are.” Toriel smirked at him, sitting up and watching him. “My big handsome king~”

“Ooh, you like the show, do you, my queen?” Asgore winked at her as he walked over to the closet to grab a shirt. “I’ll have to give you a real show later. You too, [M/N].” He shot me a wink as well, and I laughed as I smirked back at him.

“Oh, yeah, I’m sure, Gorey.” I rolled off the bed, walking over to my dresser on the other side of the room.

“You know not to doubt him about that, dear. Gorey loves showing off when he’s in the mood, doesn’t he?” Toriel leaned over, watching us both get dressed. “Though he doesn’t really need to try, given how naturally beautiful and alluring he is.”

“Ever the flatterer, aren’t you, Tori?” Asgore slid his favorite shirt on, his classic pink Hawaiian button up, pulling it down over his round belly and patting it with a knowing grin back at our wife. “I suppose you’d know everything about being naturally beautiful, though.”

“Of course, which is why I’m so sure it applies to you more.” She chuckled as he walked back to the bed, reaching out to put his paw on her shoulder and pull her up towards him, which she gladly leaned into as their lips met for a moment, their tails wagging happily behind them. “Mind starting some bacon if you’re heading to the kitchen now? I’ll be out in a minute or two.”

“Sure thing, dear.” He nodded, pausing for a moment before he laughed. “Tori, exactly how much of a head start do you think that’ll give you?”

“Enough for me to ask!” She snarked, nudging him playfully. “Now get on out there, Fluffybuns!”

“I’m going, I’m going!” Asgore giggled as he left, giving me a quick wave as he went.

“You enjoying telling him what to do?” I looked at Toriel with a raised eyebrow, holding back a chuckle.

“You know he’s so easy to play along.” She sighed longingly, turning to move her legs over the bed, leaning over on the footboard. “It’s adorable, really.”

“Mm, yeah, it is.” I walked up next to her, looking down at her for a moment before leaning over to give her a kiss on the forehead. “I think you’re the adorable one, though.” Toriel looked up at me with a silly grin, her face going from pink to red.

“Oh, are you trying to turn it on me now?” She narrowed her eyes, reaching her arm out behind me, to pull me in towards her. “You know you’ll lose that game, right?”

“You say that like I would hate to lose to you.” I chuckled, gazing back into her eyes. “Try me, your majesty.”

“No, because you have to make those muffins! Get on with it!” She let go and pushed me towards the door.

“Hey!” I groaned, turning back to her as I stopped by the door. “No way to talk to your spouse, don’t you think?”

“You offered to make the muffins that are going to take longer!” Toriel shot back, giggling as she stood up and waved me off. “Go on, get baking!”

“Okay, okay!” I chuckled as I left the room, rolling my eyes as I headed down the hallway into the kitchen. Asgore was already at work, having taken some ingredients out of the fridge and lit the stove. He was filling up the kettle when I came in, and smiled at me when he set it on the stove.

“Ah, is Toriel coming?”

“She had barely gotten out of bed when she pushed me out.” I laughed, stepping beside him and wrapping my arm around his waist. He returned the gesture (or well, put his paw at my shoulder, which was just about waist height for him!) and shook his head, his smile turning to a smirk.

“Of course. Now, breakfast time! I already took out the eggs and such for the omelettes, so you can use those for the muffins as well!”

“Thank you, dear, you’re the best.” I stood up on my tippy-toes to reach for a kiss, and he laughed in understanding as he leaned over to return it.

“Of course, I’ve got to help my short lil’ king, don’t I?” He teased, ruffling my hair before letting go of me. My face burned harshly, and I put my hands on my hips.

“Hey, I’m just a human! It’s not my fault you two are boss monsters, of course you’re way taller!”

“Mhm, I know! But that’s not making you any taller, now is it?” Asgore giggled, a smug grin on his face.

“No, but at least I’m not short for a human!” I protested, leaning over to pull the mixer and bowl out from under the counter. “I’m perfectly average, you know that.”

“I do, yes. But you’re still my cute little human, no matter what!” He reached up into the cabinet to grab some teabags. “Anywho, do you need a recipe for the muffins? I can go grab the cookbook for you, if you’d like.”

“I would like that, yes.” I nodded, my smile returning. “What, did you hide it up somewhere high?”

“Hey, don’t try and turn it on me!” Asgore laughed, putting a paw on his hip. “It’s not going to work, you know.”

“I can make it work, if you give me a minute.” I retorted, smirking a little. “I can think of things!”

“Oh, if I give you a minute, you can, eh?” He tutted, shaking his head. “You really are such a dork.”

“And you love it, right, Fluffybuns?” I said smugly, tilting my head to the side as he chuckled at the nickname.

“You know I do, dear.” We continued to chat to each other as I began making the batter for the muffins and he prepared our tea and began to cook the bacon. Toriel joined us soon enough, wearing a flowing purple sundress version of her typical royal robes. She quickly began working on the omelettes, joining in our chatter. It wasn’t anything particularly uncommon, we had spent so many mornings the same way, making breakfast together, talking, laughing, flirting. But every day we got to do it meant so much to me, and I knew it meant a lot to them as well. We all finally sat down to eat, while the muffins were baking in the oven, sipping our tea and complimenting Toriel on her cooking. It was a perfectly peaceful day, spent together, just as we had done it for years now. And what more could we really want? Asgore and Toriel were right. What mattered was that we had our life together now, a future we all looked forward to. I could only hope I had as many more Freedom Days with them as I could possibly get.

Notes:

I have been doing this for seven years oh my god??? Thank you so much for reading, especially to anyone who's been here for many years in a row. I can only hope next year we'll have more Asgore and Toriel content to run with for Undertale's *tenth* anniversary! I might think about doing a smut chapter in honor of the decennial, let me know if you'd be interested in that (and if I can slip it in here or if I should make it a separate fic). Okay I need to get back to playing the Grandfest in Splatoon now see you all next year!

Chapter Text

In all the years I had known them, neither Asgore nor Toriel had ever suggested taking me up into Mount Ebbot. It’s not like I had ever suggested interest in it of course, but it was something I noticed regardless. It’s not that they never went themselves; over the years they had done so a few times, for various reasons… but my not going went unspoken. Imagine my surprise when, after a quick anniversary breakfast, Toriel had asked me about just that.

“You… want to go back into the mountain?” I swore my mouth was stuck open in shock, and Asgore’s face seemed frozen in the same expression. “With me?”

“Yes… I know this must seem strange, especially today, but… I want you to see it. And… well, I need to check something.” She sighed, reaching over to shut my mouth with a gentle lift of her paw under my chin. “It’s not… scandalous or anything, dear, I just…. Feel it is fair for you to finally see it.”

“Tori, are you… sure that you want to do this today? With [M/N]?” Asgore leaned over from behind her to see me, shooting her a concerned look.

“I am. Trust me, I’ve thought about this… it doesn’t come easy, to go back there. But they should see our old homes. I want them to be there, for what we need to do.”

“And, uh… what do you need to do?’ I asked cautiously. The tension between them seemed odd, like neither was really mad, but still… unapproving.

“There have been… reports, by those few monsters who still go back there. And I have thought about things Frisk said, years ago… so I need to check.” Toriel’s mouth grew thin, her voice stilted as she chose her words. “I need… something, as well. That I had left, when we moved out.” Asgore’s eyes were fixed on her, an almost dangerous glint in them.

“You’re… prepared for what it might be, Tori dear?” He sounded like he could barely get the words out, and I could see he was holding back… something, whether it was tears or a desire to hug her or shake her out of it, I wasn’t sure.

“Asgore, what is she talking about?” I said firmly, turning my focus to him. “You know, don’t you?”

“Er… dear, it is something… that we have both been reluctant to really think about ever since we left the Underground.” He came over between Toriel and me, careful not to look me in the eye, his attention still on Toriel. “Tori, you know I’m… curious about it too, but if it really is…”

“Gorey…”

“If we know that it is… then we’re going to have to sit with that, knowing that for a fact–”

“Then we’ll just have to work through it, Asgore. We’ve got each other, and [M/N].”

“This isn’t like you, dear.” Asgore insisted, gently putting his paw on her arm. “You don’t usually… want to dwell on the past.”

“And I am trying to work on that. For you. For them.” She nodded her head at me, forcing a smile at him. “It’s time, Asgore. We need to check.” He hummed warily, looking aside before sighing.

“Okay. Okay, fine. But we should go now, it’ll be a long walk.”

“What exactly are we doing?” I asked with an insistent tone, looking between them. “What are you talking about, is there something up there?” The two of them looked up at each other, exchanging a glance before Toriel began to stutter through an answer.

“We never told you, but… th-there is this… well, when everything happened, Frisk told us that there was this… flower, who happened to… be…”

“Asriel.” Asgore interrupted, closing his eyes with a pained expression. “Frisk said that… there is a flower, up there, who at least has Asriel’s memories, and that he chose to stay behind when we all left, and… we’ve never been able to check for ourselves.” Toriel put her paw over her mouth and nodded silently. Their eyes seemed full of guilt, a look I scarcely saw on them anymore. I can only imagine how I looked, staring at them in surprise.

“Asriel? Really? But he… he died a century ago, didn’t he?”

“Well, yes… his dust fell in the throne room amongst my flowers. Years ago now, when Alphys became the royal scientist, I had tasked her with investigating Determination. She was… understandably protective of the details, but… it seems that her experiments combined with the flower that grew in his dust… and brought him back. At least, that is what I have gathered.” Asgore’s voice was weak, and it seemed like he had to push himself through every word. “I didn’t want to go investigate myself. It seemed like too much, and… if he wanted to be left alone, then maybe that is for the best. But Toriel, if you really want to do it, then…”

“I do.” She said bluntly, still speaking into her paw. “I want to know if it’s really him. And if it is… I want him to know that we’re doing well. I want to know that… that he’s doing okay. I want him to meet you, dear.” She took her paw off her snout and reached for my hand. “I know this must all sound strange but… surely you’re used to that with our lives by now?” She laughed weakly, and I gave her a sad smile in return, chuckling.

“Yeah, about as used to it as I can be. If I really can meet your son in some way… I would love to. And I would love to help you two do this.”

“Alright then. Let’s get a move on, like I said. Even driving to the base of the mountain, it’s a long walk up and through.” Asgore leaned over me, giving me a quick kiss on the forehead. “Get dressed for a hike, okay?”

“Okay.” I nodded, rubbing my arm. “I’ll be right back.”

“Got it.” He patted my arm before wrapping his arm around Toriel. “We’ll be waiting by the door.” I looked between them again for a moment before I went back to my room, switching my clothes for something more hardy and putting on boots before I met my spouses at the door, still chatting in hushed breaths between each other. They quickly fell quiet when they saw me, and grabbed my hands on either side, and they lead me outside. They were quiet for the whole ride, shooting me occasional glances but barely saying a word. Soon enough, we were at the foot of Mount Ebott. I stepped out of the car first, but the other two were slow to follow me. When they finally stepped out of the car, Toriel looked up at the mountain, took a deep breath, and put her paws on her hips.

“Okay. We’re going to do this, no backing out. Got it, Asgore?”

“Yes, Tori, I got it.” Asgore looked over at her with a slight frown, before forcing a smile to flash at me. “Are you alright, [M/N]?”

“Am I alright?” I said in disbelief, squinting at them. “Are you two alright!? You barely said anything the whole way here, and you both look… miserable, frankly!” Asgore just sighed, dropping his smile and rubbing his forehead.

“Well… yes, but this is something we have to do, no matter how unpleasant it will be. I apologize if we aren’t talkative, but–”

“You understand why, don’t you? It’s not your fault, not at all. Don’t think we’re trying to be rude to you, or don’t want you here.” Toriel finished his thought, stepping over to put her paw on my shoulder. “Once we get up there, we’ll be able to tell you about some of our history. I’m sure it’ll flow out once we’re there, surrounded by all the memories.”

“I wasn’t thinking that, it just feels so tense, being with you two for this without… understanding.” Asgore wrapped his paw around my hand quietly, nodding at me to continue. “I always feel… left out, sometimes. You two have so much history. Good history, of course, but also so much… pain and suffering that I’ve only had to hear about. It makes me feel bad, like I’m intruding on your private lives sometimes, the most painful parts of your life, as some random schmuck who has nothing to do with it all.”

“You’re never intruding, darling.” Toriel insisted, shaking her head. “We share this with you because… it’s a part of us, and one that you help us with. And you really do, [M/N]. You balance us both out, when we’re struggling, when we can’t do that for each other. You remind us that there’s more to our lives than everything that happened then.”

“What we went through was truly awful, but there’s nothing more encouraging than having you with us, [M/N].” Asgore knelt down to meet my eyes, and Toriel did the same. “You’re coming with us because… if we ever feel sucked into the past, we can look at you, our wonderful, beautiful new spouse, and know that that is the past. That we’ve got a lovely life with you now, and we need to keep going. For you.” He suddenly reached up to rub my cheek, wiping away a tear that I hadn’t even realized was coming, before wiping away his own watering eyes. “You mean so much to us, dear.”

“Oh, Asgore…” I found myself laughing for some reason, and wrapped each arm around one of their necks, pulling them into a hug they both quickly returned. “You two are so sappy about me. I still can’t quite believe it… even after all this time.”

“You know us, we’re very sappy.” Toriel chuckled with a slight smile, before kissing my cheek. “Try and keep us talking if you need to to feel comfortable, okay? It’s a long walk up, after all.”

“Alright, Tori, I’ll try.” I gave her a kiss on the snout in return, grinning back at her.

“Don’t leave me out!” Asgore laughed, leaning in to nuzzle my neck and planting kisses all along it. My face burned red as I patted his shoulder, groaning in protest, though it quickly turned into giggles.

“G-Gorey! S-Stop, your beard tickles!”

“Oh, you love it, stop whining~” He teased. I rubbed my chin over the top of his snout, rolling my eyes.

“You don’t know that, big guy~”

“I know he does know, sweetie.” Toriel chimed in, giggling as well. “You’re just so weak to anything from the two of us.”

“Yeah, of course I am!” I groaned and elbowed her lightly. “Okay, now are we climbing this mountain or what?”

“Right, right.” Asgore let go of me, standing up to look towards the mountain. “I appreciate the levity, though… It'll make this a little easier.”

“Yes, yes… you’re right, it will help to distract ourselves a little.” Toriel nodded, grabbing his paw. He looked down at their fingers woven together, taking a deep breath before nodding himself. He turned back to me, holding out his other paw.

“[M/N]?” I smiled, hurrying up to grab it, and then the three of us set off up the path.

It took nearly an hour to reach the entrance of the Underground, and thankfully, our conversation seemed to keep Asgore and Toriel both in good spirits. The trail wasn’t too difficult a hike, but I was feeling a bit tired by the time we reached the lookout just outside of the mouth of the cave. We stopped for a moment to admire the view out over the city, and the growing monster suburb that had sprung up in the years since they were freed. I could see tears welling in both their eyes as they looked out over the land, and I squeezed Asgore’s paw tightly. He did the same back to me, chuckling as he blinked the tears away.

“Golly. It really is beautiful up here. I… remember the first time we saw this again.”

“It’s really remarkable to think that was twelve years ago… and how far we’ve come since then.” Toriel rubbed her own tears with her free paw, shaking her head. “I was still so upset with you then. As if you didn’t have enough to deal with then…”

“It’s alright, Tori, really… we’ve discussed all that to death.” Asgore laughed softly, tugging her closer to lean her head on his shoulder. “We figured it all out. And now here we are, coming up this mountain together. Facing the past, together. No more silly fighting, or running away.”

“Together, yes.” Toriel murmured, nuzzling into our husband’s shoulder. “We’re going to face this now. As a family.”

“Our family… the Dreemurrs have certainly changed over the years, but it’s always been our family.” Asgore pulled me into a side hug, and I wrapped my arms the best I could around his strong, round torso, nuzzling against his chest.

“And I’m so lucky to be a part of it.”

“And we’re so lucky to have you in it!” He stroked my hair tenderly, the sunlight glimmering off his bright golden mane, shining just like his smile. “Another little human. A handsome dork this time, though.”

“You’re a handsome dork.” I muttered back, almost lost in the gentle touches of his fingers, the teasing taps of his claws against my head.

“You’re both very handsome dorks, yes.” Toriel confirmed, reaching over to scratch under my chin. “Though I like the dork part more on you, [M/N]. Just look at your cute face when we’re all over you like this~,” she said in a cutesy voice. My face must have been burning red as I squirmed over both of their affectionate gestures flooding my senses, whining pathetically.

“Guyssss…” I squeaked out, hugging Asgore tighter. “Not now!”

“We’re about to have a big moment, can’t we have some fun first?” He protested, leaning down to kiss my forehead. “Besides, you’re just so adorable when we tease you together!”

“Yeah, of course I get all flustered! You two are hot!” I groaned, pouting out my lip.

“Mm, we sure are.” Toriel laughed, letting go of me and nodding for Asgore to do the same. “Okay, enough torturing the poor thing. It’s… time to go in.” Asgore let go of me with a sigh, frowning.

“Right, right…” He turned around to face the cave mouth, biting his lip. “Dear, don’t be too surprised if we… are a bit overwhelmed, alright?”

“I get it, Asgore. I’ll be right here for you if you need me.” The three of us fell silent, looking at each other with a long gaze before they set off into the cave, and I followed close behind.

The first few chambers were plain- decorative gates at the entrances, illuminated sections in the center. They both stayed quiet as they looked around, paws tightly woven together, until they stepped into a much more decorated room: golden walls, covered in green ivy, covered again in gold flowers in the center. There were lighter patches in the corner and the middle, which I assumed must have been where the thrones had been before being moved to the surface. Asgore’s mouth twitched into a smile for just a second, as he looked over to the light faintly shining in through the window.

“The flowers are doing just fine without me, it seems. I’m not sure where they’re getting water, but…”

“It’s peaceful.” Toriel said softly, her own lip curling inward. “There’s so many now… even just compared to when we left…”

“It seems this is where they belong.” He chuckled sadly. “I’m sure they would have been happy to see them.”

“They would be. Maybe they can, somehow.” She paused for a moment, then shook her head. “No, I’m sure of it.”

“Yes… it’s the least they deserve.” I walked over to them as they looked back down at the flowers, resting my hand on Toriel’s back.

“You had planted these after… Chara died?” I asked, and Asgore nodded, then shook his head.

“They actually just grew after… Asriel brought them back here. I cultivated them, made sure they kept growing, but the first ones were a surprise.” He looked up at the door at the end of the throne room, sighing. “Let’s keep going… the Underground is quite the walk in total.”

“Yes, best not to dwell already.” Toriel nodded, and we headed out through the ivy field to a hallway. They quickly went down the right, leading us into another large golden hall, with columns and windows emblazoned with delta runes lining each side. They were quiet again as we passed right through, out to another gray hallway overlooking the city, then back inside the castle. We eventually came to a set of stairs leading up, and Asgore and Toriel came to a halt. They looked at each other, clearly both reluctant to go up the stairs.

“This… is our old home. I haven’t really taken a look at it since I left…” Toriel rubbed her arm, biting her lip.

“And I certainly haven’t wanted to go back after spending so much time alone there… but we have to.” Asgore sighed again, and looked back to me. “Don’t be afraid to tell us to keep moving, dear. Please.”

“No, I think you should take all the time you need. You two need it, really.” I stepped forward, onto the first step. “I’ll lead the way, if you two need me to…?”

“Yes, let’s do that.” Toriel tightened her lips and tugged Asgore’s paw to follow me up the stairs. Their house was dimly lit and dusty. You could definitely tell that it had been abandoned for over a decade. I saw the other door in the front, but for whatever reason, I wanted to look around first. I turned right, into the dining room. Asgore and Toriel looked around the room in silence, and I could tell from the look in their eyes that they were both flooded with memories. They let go of each other’s paws and walked around the room, running their fingers over the dusty furniture, Toriel the bookshelf and Asgore the kitchen table.

“Remember how excited Asriel would be to listen to us read?” She chuckled sadly, looking over the story books on the lower shelf, dustier than anything else.

“Oh yes! And how excited he’d be to come over to the table to have your pie… or to try my tea…”

“Oh, he was always so excited for dessert, he’d always have the most adorable twinkle in his eyes!” Toriel clasped her paws together, a sad smile on her face. “And we… didn’t get to give him dessert that day, did we?”

“No… we were so caught up with Chara’s illness, we didn’t get to have any celebration for him… before… everything.” Asgore sighed, brushing his paw in front of one chair. “I hope he wasn’t upset about that.”

“I’m… sure he wasn’t thinking about that.” I offered weakly as I rested my hand on his shoulder. “And I don’t think he’d hold it against you either.”

“I don’t even know if he remembered it was his birthday, dear.” Toriel laughed weakly, joining us at the table to rub his lower back. “We were all too distracted to even think about that.”

“I suppose you’re right about that.” Asgore sighed, looking between us. “I… spent so much time here, alone… and yet being back, I’m only thinking about when you were here, Tori.”

“Well, because I’m here, Gorey. Of course you’re thinking about me, and when we lived here together.”

“Yes, but… it’s hard to reckon with the fact that I have almost no distinct memories of that hundred years. Besides just being miserable, here…”

“Oh, Gorey…” Toriel sighed, hugging him from the side. “You’re not alone anymore. Never again, I promise.”

“I know, I know…” He nuzzled back against her, furrowing his brow. “Regardless… it’s strange being here again.”

“It’s a very cute home.” I piped up cautiously. “It’s… a bit too gray, but it seems like it’d be cozy.”

“Oh don’t worry, old Home is a bit more colorful.” Toriel gave me a soft smile, chuckling despite herself. “I said we should have brought some stone from the rest of the Underground, but Gorey said that was too much work…”

“There’s plenty of stone around here, we didn’t need to bother lugging it all through Hotland!” Asgore’s frown broke, and he laughed as he elbowed Toriel.

“Well, we still could have done something besides the flowers to make it a bit more colorful here!” She giggled, elbowing him back.

“Look, it’s too late for that now! We made it gray, and now we don’t live here anymore. So what does–” Asgore’s words suddenly stopped as a just-barely-audible melody twinkled out from the other side of the house. He and Toriel looked at each other in shock, and I quickly looked over to the other hallway. We all stood up, cautiously sneaking towards the other side of the central room. As the melody continued, their eyes both widened in recognition, and Asgore stepped forward towards the first door in the hallway, carefully reaching out to the doorknob. He froze once his paw touched it, as if he couldn’t bring himself to actually open the door, to see who might be on the other side. Toriel reached out after a moment, wrapping her paw around his, almost freezing herself, but she pushed through and opened the door.

“Wh-HEY!” A voice called from inside, the sound of a small necklace dropping to the ground echoing before I could squeeze inside. Asgore and Toriel both froze again, paws shooting to cover their mouths as they looked inside. I squeezed in between them, to get a glimpse of who was inside. A golden flower was right in the center of the room, a golden locket right in front of them on the flower, tinking out the last of a little lullaby, staring up at us. None of us wanted to make the first move, no one wanted to say a word. So this must be… what Asriel is now?

“Oh, dear…” Toriel was just barely able to squeak out, reaching forward with one paw. “Are you…?”

“What are you two doing here!?” The flower yelled angrily, picking the locket back up and clutching it tightly with his leaves. “It’s…. Go away!”

“Asriel…” Asgore’s voice broke, his eyes filling with tears. “That’s… that’s you, isn’t it?”

“I’m not–” The flower’s eyes darted around, as he frowned with a pouted lip. “Why are you here now? I thought–”

“That’s your locket.” Toriel stepped forward, getting down on her knees. “It’s your birthday, and… the day everything happened. That’s why you’re here, isn’t it?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He said firmly, closing his eyes angrily. “I’m… I’m just some monster!”

“Frisk told us about you.” Asgore said softly, kneeling down next to Toriel, putting his paw on her back. “You’re Asriel. Our son… at least to some extent.”

“They said you might not… want to admit that, or that you might not still feel things for us, but that’s alright! You’re still our son.” Toriel laughed weakly, wiping her own watering eyes, as she reached out towards him again. The flower was silent, turning away like he was about to run off, before he suddenly jumped into Toriel’s paw, and began sobbing.

“Why!? Why did you come here, old lady!? Why did Frisk tell you!? I told them I wanted to be left alone, because I… I’m not Asriel anymore, there’s something wrong with me. I did so much to hurt you…”

“We’re here to find you.” Asgore reached over to hold him with Toriel, almost laughing in shock. “Have you really been sitting here for a decade, all by yourself? You didn’t need to stay here, son…”

“I’m not your son.” The flower pouted again, furrowing his brow. “I don’t feel anymore. I didn’t want you to know about me because… it’ll just make you miserable.”

“Miserable?” Toriel shook her head, smiling sadly. “Oh, dear, how could we be miserable to know you’re still around?”

“You sure seem to be ‘feeling’ to me.” Asgore chuckled, patting the flower gently. “I think you might be a little too hard on yourself.” The flower looked around frustratedly, before his eyes finally looked up to me.

“Um… who’s this human?”

“Oh!” Toriel blushed, looking back at me and gesturing me closer. I bit my lip and stepped in closer, sitting down next to them. “This is [M/N]. They are… our new spouse. We met them a few years after we moved back to the surface.”

“Uh, hello! Asriel…?” I tried to give him a small smile, completely unsure what he might think of me, this human his parents loved now…

“Flowey.” He insisted on his name, looking me up and down. “You… you’re dating them?”

“Married, actually.” I chuckled nervously. “You’ve missed a lot.”

“Married… I guess I have.” Flowey sighed, moving his attention back to Asgore. “Why did you want to find me? I don’t want to leave. I want to be alone.”

“Do you?” Asgore raised an eyebrow, grinning a little. “I think I know my boy a little better than that…”

“I do! I’m not your boy anymore!” He whined, crossing his leaf arms. “I don’t belong with you. I can’t love you, and you shouldn’t waste your time on me.”

Flowey, it doesn’t matter to us if you can’t care for us back…” Toriel whispered sweetly, holding him up closer to her face. “You’re still our son, at least a little. And that means it’s our job to care for you. And we are going to care about you, love you, no matter what you do or what you say.” Her words were firm, insistent, and Flowey’s eyes seemed to focus in on hers as she cradled his face. “I don’t know why you think you can’t feel… but that’s alright. Even if you can’t, I am not going to leave you here. Asriel, Flowey, whoever you want to be… I’ll never let you go again.” He didn’t say anything for a moment, lip quavering, before he looked away and growled.

“You really want to take me with you? Even if I’m just trouble? Even if I’m stuck like this forever?”

“Dear, we’re also stuck like we are forever.” She giggled, looking over to Asgore knowingly. “I think we’ll appreciate the company.”

“If we’re taking care of you forever, I won’t complain a day. It’s better than thinking our son was completely gone forever, to me.” Asgore cradled the other side of his face, lifting his gaze back towards us. “Your mother and I, [M/N]... we’ll be there for you, no matter what you’re going through, Flowey. We’ll do everything we can to find ways to help you, to make you as… content as you can be. Even if you can’t feel, I think having us around to do it for you will make you feel better… er, make your life easier?” He laughed weakly, rubbing his neck. “Golly, does that make sense? That sounded a little confusing.” Flowey groaned, leaning his head (flower?) over.

“Golly, old man, you’re still such a dork.”

“That’s what we all call each other!” He responded cheerfully, earning another groan out of Flowey.

“Great, three parents that are all obnoxiously sappy… you’re not really selling me on this.”

“That seems like a real feeling to me.” Toriel raised her eyebrow playfully, smirking down at him. “I think you might just be a little older than you were before…”

“If you want to think that, whatever.” Flowey huffed.

“Mhm, I do.” She turned to me, rolling her eyes with a smile. “I think we’ve done what we came for… maybe the tour will have to wait for another time. Today… I think we ought to bring Flowey home and make him a welcome back dessert…”

“Pie!?” Flowey perked back up, eyes wide. “You mean pie, right?”

“I think that’s enough incentive to get him to stay with us until dinnertime.” Asgore grinned, ruffling his petals. “How’s that for a birthday present, bud?”

“It’s… fine!” He pouted again at Asgore’s teasing, blushing. “Don’t make me change my mind!”

“We better be quick about it then. Would you like a pot to be carried home in?” Toriel asked him, setting him back down on the floor. He nodded, and she stood up. “Be right back, I’ll just grab one from the hallway!”

“Just be careful with the flower already in there, dear!” Asgore called after her as she left, before looking back to Flowey, who was staring at the locket again. “I assume you’d like to take that with you? We can bring any of your other things from here too, if you like.”

“No!” He exclaimed, hugging the locket close. “I mean… no to anything else. It’s not like toys or clothes are useful to me like this, anyway… but I can still look at this.”

“Oh ho ho, if you say so… Once we’re home though, please, don’t be shy to ask us for anything you might need, okay?” Asgore offered him his paw again. “Everything is going to be alright.”

“And, uh.. Don’t feel too awkward about me, either. I… would like to get to know you, and… maybe some things will be easier to talk about with me than Asgore or Toriel.” I suggested, scootching closer to Asgore. “I don’t know who you were, so… I want to know who you are now, Flowey.” He looked up at me skeptically, studying my face as if he wasn’t sure whether or not to believe me.

“[M/N], was it?” he asked, grunting. “Only if you promise not to snitch on everything…”

“I won’t. Promise.” I nodded, smiling down at him. “Just between you and me.”

“Okay.” Flowey nodded back. Toriel then came back into the room, setting down a medium sized pot with another gold flower.

“Sorry it’s already occupied… I didn’t want to just rip it out. I hope you don’t mind.”

“It’s… good enough. Thanks,” he muttered, hopping up onto the pot. “Now take me home so you can make pie!”

“Patience, dear!” Toriel chuckled, picking the pot back up. Asgore and I stood up, and he brushed himself off.

“Well, you heard him. Let’s get going, dorks!”

“Do you really call each other that all the time!??” Flowey whined, crossing his arms again. “Don’t be so embarrassing…”

“It’s fun, though!” I giggled, cozying up to Toriel’s side as we left the bedroom. “I love being all dorky with my wife and husband.”

“You fit right in with them, then…” He groaned, slapping his leaf over his face. “Great.”

“They sure do!” Asgore chuckled heartily, wrapping his arm over Toriel’s shoulders, leaning in to kiss her forehead, which she quickly returned with a peck to his cheek. “We’re even more affectionate now, I’d think. We’re still making up for that hundred years apart, I think…”

“If you kiss again I’m hopping out of this pot and throwing myself in the lava in Hotland,” Flowey grumbled.

“So dramatic!” Toriel laughed, clutching his pot tightly. “I already said, you’re not getting away from us so easily now. But fine, no more kisses. For now.”

“Aww, but I didn’t get one!” I protested, glaring down at Flowey. “Are you really gonna force them to leave me out?”

“Ugh, fine, but I’m not looking!” He buried himself down in the soil, and the three of us laughed again as I leaned up to share a kiss with both of them in turn.

“He’s really something, eh?”

“Kids.” Asgore shrugged, grinning. “We’ll figure it out. We always do, together, right?”

“It’ll be a long journey, but… I know that’s still Asriel in there. At least some part of him.” Toriel looked down at the pot, and the locket left sitting on top of the soil. “He wanted that locket he and Chara got a matching set of… it must be him, deep in there.”

“And regardless… that’s someone who needs a family. And I know we’re happy to give him one.” Asgore smiled warmly, looking over at me. “I know we… never really thought about having kids again after Frisk grew up, with you, since… well, you wouldn’t be able to get involved, but… is this all okay with you? It might be quite a challenge at first…”

“I’m ready for anything with you two. I’ll take the best care of him I can.” I nodded, beaming with determination. “If he’s your son, he’s mine too.”

“Good. That’s my dork, my [M/N].” He ruffled my hair, and Toriel chuckled as she watched my face turn bright red.

“And my dork, too! I’d give you a good ruffle if my paws weren’t full!”

“You’ll just have to really make it up later, let me fill up those paws instead…” I teased, giggling, when suddenly Flowey’s muffled voice yelled from under the soil.

“I can still hear you, you know! Stop being gross!”

“Sorry!” I called back, shaking my head. “I’ll try not to be so in love with this ‘old lady’ in front of you!”

“Don’t provoke him too much!” She laughed, elbowing me more forcefully. “Dork.”

“Yeah, yeah, alright, dork.”

“Maybe you could stick dork on the pie too.” Asgore added in a whisper, stifling a giggle.

“Ugh, what have I agreed to?” Flowey mumbled as we walked back out into the light. We all paused to look over the view again, the sun now starting to fall from its peak, the first changing leaves of early autumn poking out in yellows and reds in between the green sea below. “Hey, why’d you stop moving-?” He popped up from out under the soil again, freezing when he saw that we were back on the surface.

“I guess it’s not your first time, but… now you can really appreciate it.” Asgore smiled down at him, raising his paw over his eyes to shield them from the sun.

“It’s…” He trailed off, seemingly relaxing as he looked out over the valley. “... okay, I guess.”

“Welcome to the world, Flowey.” Toriel cooed down at him. “I hope you’ll like it up here.”

“Yeah… me too.”

Notes:

Happy 10th anniversary of Undertale, everyone! What the actual fuck! I remember getting into the game in summer 2016 before high school (NINE years ago!!!) and thinking I was super late to the game. And here we are! Still here! Deltarune chapters 3 and 4 this year! Chapter 5 next year and it's actually gonna be Asgore time!!!! I'm in Europe doing a master's degree now! Time passing is crazy!

Uh, shoutout to Cyber_Void for suggesting that they should visit Flowey in a future chapter a couple months ago. I did that! I think it's a good special chapter for the 10th anniversary. In two years I will have been writing this fic for a decade. That's crazy. Please don't go back to the first few chapters if you're starting here they're probably kinda bad. I think this'll be a fun status quo change for the future, maybe I'll actually get around to doing a chapter not for the anniversary again to explore the Flowey adoption dynamic more.

As ever and always, thank you for reading, especially to anyone who comes back year after year to read these. Undertale really means a lot to me, it's genuinely such a huge part of my life, and it's been a big influence on my own art output this last decade. I hope you enjoy my silly little bisexual furry wish fulfillment writing every year. One of these days maybe I'll actually just own up to it and write some smut in this series. Comment if you have anything you want to see, clearly I'm easily influenced into doing it lmao!
